  1. Oooooh, I hadn't thought about that. Maybe try to just eat what you can in 10 minutes. I'm super-fast eater - - I know, I know...not good post-op, but some habits are hard to break and I don't have any trouble eating fast...but mentally I know I need to slow down. So even if it's only half a cheese stick (or half of whatever snack you bring) at least it would put something in there to get you out of that long zone of empty.
  2. I had my band removed in November, and had RNY surgery February 10. I don't think I'll ever look back. I lost a TON of weight with the band, but because of all the horrible side effects, was effectively bulimic. I puked more than I ate for four years. When the gird and reflux got so bad that I never slept more than a few winks here, I eventually returned to my old binge eating habits. Only worse - because only a milkshake would stay down. I am THRILLED with my slower RNY results, becuase I have not ONCE been sick!

    What is the outcome?

Thank you Victoriana, I have been Obese all my life.. Like A LOT of other is the world. But, I recently got married to a wonderful and most beautiful woman. I feel its time for me to take full control of my life. So I will have time to left to spend with her.. instead of 10 to 15 years i want it to be 60 or 70 more... So I feel am Would be making the right choice to have the surgery, wheather is RNY(open or lap) or LapBand.
  4. My advice... dont stress over the impending liquid diet.... As Nike says... Just do it!! It is better for you and better for the surgeons.... And really after the 2nd-3rd day it is a breeze....Make sure you take in a good amount of Protein it will curve your hunger... Here is what a day is like for me...You can put crystal light in your Water to help as well. You can even have another shake if you need to.... I do now and then..... wake up 24 oz of water before Breakfast sugar free carnation instant breakfast made with skim milk and 1/3 cup dry non fat milk 24 ounce of water to be drank until next shake 10 ounces of warm(not boiling it will ruin protein.. so hottest you can get out of tap) water and one scoop of 100% whey unflavored powder with a teaspoon and a half of better then bouillon chicken base 24 ounces of water to be drank before next shake 1 strawberry shake made with water and 1/3 cup of powdered milk and a teaspoon of cinnamon 24 ounces of water before next shake Warm chocolate Protein Shake made with water and 1/3 cup of powdered milk sip on water till bed water intake 90+OUNCES Protein intake about 90 grams calorie intake about 715 calories

    Purging your clothing

I purged clothing the whole time. When I got to 12 I purged the 16s, got to 10 purged the 14s. Now I am at 6 and I have nothing larger than an 8.

    Purging your clothing

I was a size 22 and didn't buy new clothes until I was size 18. Mostly because plus sizes fit for so long - all that elastic. When my pants started falling, that's when I discovered I was a size 18. I would buy two pairs of pants and 4-5 shirts and then repeat once I'd dropped two sizes. So at size 14, 10, etc. Basically, I bought just what I could get by with for work because I want to save my pennies for when I'm at goal. It's no fun, especially when you see all the cute clothes that you can now fit into, but I just keep my eye on the prize at the end. I purged my closet each time I had to buy new clothes. If it didn't fit, it went. Just donate and get rid of it all. Don't agonize over it or think of the wasted money or anything - just let it all go. It's very freeing to see that nearly empty closet and know it's because you've made such progress and done something amazing for yourself.
  7. I was sleeved 10/29 and am trying to set myself up on a schedule to do measurements and progress pics. I had originally thought I'd do them every month. But I did them this week and it was a bit dispiriting. Pics look the same. Lot inches in my bust/chest and legs, but almost none in my hips/waist. I've also lost a fair amount in my fingers (so much that my rings no longer fit on my ring finger without my being afraid they'll fall off, so I wear them on my middle finger). And this after losing 20# since surgery and 40# total. So I know its working, and I'm not going to get discouraged. All that said - what is a good schedule for doing progress pics/measurements? Thanks!
  8. Hi Cindy, You might be too tight. You should be able to eat solid foods, just not much of them. However, you could also just not be chewing as much as you need to with a really good fill. If you can get liquids down, that's a good sign. Practice chewing a lot during meals for a week--chew 25 times, put your fork down for a minute in between bites. If after a week, you can still only drink liquids, and it's been 5 weeks since your fill, I'd call your doctor and discuss having some fill taken out. It's not a big deal at all to have it taken out--no more than putting it in, as long as your doctor is experienced. Hope this helps!! By the way, what is an italian soda? If it has carbonation, you might want to talk to your doctor about--most doctors have us stay off carbonated beverages. Good luck! Janeen 10/18/02 Dr. Ren, NYU Medical Center 306/221/206mg/165g
  9. When does the hair start growing back? I'm 10 months post op.
  10. Hello all, Its been 10 days since I have had my surgery. I am following their directions to a tee and exercising but my weight loss is very slow. How much should I be losing in the first two weeks and how many total calories am I supposed to be eating. Do you all see a dietician to guide you or just eat a set amount of calories? I need to know since I really want this to work!

    Returning to work

I just returned to after 10 business days off. I took a half day today. But besides being a little tired I'm okay! I also have a desk job.
  12. Hi everyone! My name is Heather. I live in East Central Minnesota. I am married to my high school sweetheart of 18 years now. I have two boys, 15 and 8. I work full time as a licensed practical nurse and go to college part time to become a registered nurse. Like many of you, I have been overweight the majority of my life. I was teased in school, and often as an adult I hear disparaging comments. I have been considering gastric surgery for the past 10 years. I looked into it again after I saw a patient having great success, and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I am 5'4" and weigh 255 lbs. This is the heaviest I have been. I have done all of the diets with some temporary success. I have always gained the weight back, with a little extra bonus weight added on too. I have one more month of seeing the required dietician before my "case" is submitted to insurance. The time has seemed to fly by until now. Since college classes start again for me on Monday, I am hoping I won't have much time to pace the floor waiting for time to pass. This forum has been a great resource. I hope that along with you all, I can someday share my experience and success! You all are a blessing to me!!! <3 Heather
  13. Yea...I'm one of those who sneezes, usually 9 or 10 times in a row. LOL

    1500 calories pre surgery

The difference is: I have a band EVERY DAY. I can't conveniently forget that I'm on a diet, or make exceptions because of an office party or a vacation. Calorie-wise, a bad day with the band is still a good day in diet-land. Pre-band, 1200 calories felt like a really strict diet. Post-band, it feels like a ton of food. I'm truly satisfied eating smaller portions now (well, I would be if I'd stop eating just one bite SOONER ). I've lost weight successfully in the past, but the tipping point was always me eyeballing portions, and those portions slowly growing larger. The LapBand just won't allow me to sneak in that extra 10% without sliming.

    New and have questions

Kiz summed it up pretty well. I had insurance (tricare standard) and it took me about 4 weeks from seminar to surgery (7/10 to 8/11) but there was no doubt, at 405, that I met the criteria. No tinkering with BMI etc etc.

    Vomiting postop

I'm 10 months out and have had issues with vomiting since starting solids. My surgeon says it's likely to go away after a year or so. With meat, I've noticed I have more issues if it's dry at all. I can only handle chicken breast if it's really moist. I store mine with Water so it doesn't dry out. If I eat too much or too fast, I also throw up. Also can't eat anything spicy or fried or anything too sweet. Don't really need those last two anyway but it would be nice to have spicy food, I miss it.
  17. Hi Everyone, I'm a little concerned about my stupid decision. I had Sleeve Plication on 10/22 and was really good about the liquid diets for the first week, but I felt hungry and miserable the entire time. I mean, sleepy, tired, hungry, like mental pain... On week 2, I started the full liquids, but by mid-week, I was already eating the mushy foods. By the end of the week, I was already eating regular foods of all kinds. I haven't felt much restriction of any kind. I just finished week 3 and have only lost 6 pounds. I can't seem to get rid of the hunger pangs (literally feel like I'm starving every 2 1/2 hours.) Did I screw everything up? What can I do to fix it? I was literally able to finish a whole roll of sushi for dinner last night, and today I was able to eat a good size of lasagna. I'm so frustrated with myself and disappointed.... HELP!
  18. This morning I stepped on the scale. 199.8. I havent seen a number in the hundreds for 10 yrs. Tomorrow will be 10 weeks since I waswas sleeved. I was 241 before surgery. Im so excited!
  19. I am 5'7" and started out with a BMI of 40. People started noticing when I lost 30 pounds. People who are very close to me started noticing the 30 pound loss and they really noticed when I went on vacation for 10 days and came back. They said I looked like a different person, even though I only lost 3 while gone. I think the absence made the difference because they weren't seeing me daily. I think random friends and acquaintances are REALLY noticing now that I have dropped almost 40, but they don't come right out and say it (probably because they don't know me very well -- and my band is a secret, so I don't tell people I'm trying to lose). They comment on how tan I've gotten (I've been working out outdoors) or some other compliment . . . but they don't mention my weight specifically. I think some people are just afraid to -- they don't want to offend anyone. DH is loving the new stuff from Victoria's Secret, though! It's been a long time since I was able to shop there! :crying:
  20. So Friday was a normal day felt pretty good stopped to see a friend and ended up having a drink which led to to many and proceeded to eat and drink all night long boy did i feel like **** Saturday at work ate a lot of bad stuff not alot of it just bar food(deep fried garbage ) still paying for it today feeling like i failed over the weekend and now i must be more diligent about what i eat and drink period did all the wrong things over the weekend and i know it first time in ten months i have really slipped off so feeling really guilty about it and through all of this i was able to drop below 200lbs still do not fell good about it i know it only 1 pound that was a bugger of a 1lb so back on the horse that threw me now and staying focused on me not the good time (that really was not that much fun ) oh by the way ALM is not as good at drinking as i once was for sure rant over thanks for listening
  21. How much protein in your shake? Mine has 30grams. You may need to add 2 small snacks in between and then a small low fat dinner. So a cheese stick (low fat) or hard boil egg just some ideas for snacks and make sure you drinks lots of water or light drinks in between. I did it last week and I was able to do for 2 days before caving with all this Halloween party madness...tomorrow I am back on the protein shakes. I would like to lose 19 lbs before my surgery so it would leave me with exactly 100lbs to lose to my goal with my band. BTW I got the MyoFusion protein powder at GNC I like the chocolate. They told me to add a tsp of peanut butter (no sugar added) to the shake, to add flavor and if I am working out to add a scoop of raw oatmeal to add complex carbs. I will let you know how it goes. Of course tomorrow I have to go to Dunkin Donuts to buy donuts for my daughter's class. Like a ex-crack head having to get something from the crack house (SIGH)

    Work Out Regimen

I walk 2 miles 3-4 days a week. We have lots of hill where I live. I'm 4 weeks post op so I haven't started lifting yet. I also lift heavy and I probably wont be able to do that until I'm at least 7-9 weeks out from surgery. I might have to just settle for the 5-10 lbs girly weights lol but it's better than nothing I plan to start running once I get the all clear but it's too early for that.
  23. I had my bypass surgery on 10/20/20. 5 weeks today. Looking for a buddy or more for some support too.

    Can You Eat Soup?????

Im eating soup now. If I eat lunch, 95% of the time it's soup because that's the only thing I can get down. I have uneven restriction, so I'm usually super tight early - mid day, and open after. Lastnight for dinner I had a turkey patty with onions and peas, and this morning it took a good 10 mins to "recover" from a drink of soy milk. However, the only way I mix my lunch soup with solid food is if the soup has chunks in it.
