  1. No doubt I would do the sleeve. My mom had the bypass years ago and her recovery wa horrible. I had my sleeve Nov 18 and I am down from 247 to 189. My recovery was quick and easy and my food list was an easier options than hers. He ha gained some of her weight back and she always had that dumping sensation. She stayed miserable for a while.
  2. I live in Shelton, just outside of Olympia. I am about 45 minutes from Olympia. I had my surgery with Dr. Neal in Olympia at Pacific Surgical and Weight Loss Center. He is incredible. He has extremely positive reviews and credetials. It was great working with him and he office is like a family! Most of them are banded as well. Check out their site at Pacific Surgical I got so tired of liquids too! I just had my first fill and had to go back to liquids for 2 days, it went fast though! Keep your chin up, it'll be over soon and you can move on to the next phase!

Does having a VSG help with energy problems?

The weight loss definitely helps! Just don't ever let yourself run out of Vitamins. I went without for a week between paydays and thought I was dying by day 4. Maybe it was psychological, but BOY did I feel like a wet dishrag!

  8. Wow I am a day away--tomorrow is finally my big day. I am more than excited I am over the moon. It has been a long struggle to get here and I am so ready! They did change my time from 7 am to 11 am. Bummer --- but at least they did not change the day! I am so happy. Been on my liquid since Thursday the 10 th...... My the weight is falling off -- I have been dropping 1pound a day so far. Since Thursday down 4 whole pounds -- go figure. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. Wishing all my May sleevers great success and looking forward to an uneventful recovery for us all !!! Hugs and prayers to us all, also.
  9. I had the sleeve 3 yrs ago and lost 25 lbs then my weight loss stopped. I've tracked my weight everyday since and seems no matter what I do I stay w/in 3 lbs. I've written everything I've eaten, counted calories, upped my treadmill time and cut my portion size. I get my Protein and Water in everyday. I eat healthy. I'm wondering if age plays a part in it? I just turned 70 and am in great health. Since surgery my PB is normal as are all other tests. I just can't loose any more weight. I've heard of set points with weight and wonder if mine has been cemented at this weight. Any info or suggestions appreciated. Thanks Sherry

    Portion Control

That is incredible! 100 lbs gone! Woohoo! I wasn't sure where you were in your post-op, but if you're exercising, you can probably benefit from some carbs. As to the slow down, with the amount of weight you've lost, you are bound to slow down now. I see from your profile that you're less than 30 lbs from your goal weight. Now comes the hard part.......making those last pounds disappear! In the beginning, the calorie deficit between your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and your daily calorie intake was quite large. And you were losing fast. Now, the deficit is probably much smaller and the loss is slowing down dramatically. The best way to combat this is to increase your calorie deficit. Since you're already eating such a small amount, the only place left for you to make an adjustment is in your exercise. Each minute spent working out will pay off in the end and get you to goal. It may not be fast and it sure as heck won't be easy. But it will be satisfying.........and make you fabulously fit! Stick with it girl..........you're in sight of the goal line......keep up the fantastic work!

    Fatigue

I am almost four weeks out and am still tired. I am getting the fluids and the protein, for the most part, but still can't walk too far. I have been to the grocery store or to Costco but that is my BIg outing for the day. It might be my age---i'm 65. Pre op weight was 307. I have lost 24 pds (including pre op weight loss). I am on soft foods. I am afraid I will never get my energy back. any advice from someone farther down the road???

    Dreaded 7 letter word -

Honestly.... I know its hard to do- stop stressing and obsessing over it-- your body will react to stress by holding on to weight.... take one weekend- and jsut relax- dont think about the band - or exercise.... just be normal.... take a 2 day vacation from it.. then Monday hit the gym... I promise- everytime i was stressing over the scale not moving-- it got worse- out of frustration on weekend I said - FORGET IT... and let lose- went out to eat with friends.... slept in instead of hitting the gym.... and just lived life... got up Monday morning dreading geting on that scale--- it was down! So i started back with my routine again.... Sometimes you need to let yourself relax ...I know easier said than done.... I need to follow my words of wisdom.
  14. When we are first getting started, we tend to shoot for high Protein numbers daily. For most of us, we aim for 60-100+ grams, and there seems to be an attitude that more is better. As we reach normal weights, do our protein requirements go down? I would assume yes but I'm not sure. The reason I ask is because I am in a 5-week (so far) stall that coincides with finding a Protein shake I like and finally reaching protein numbers over 60. I've been getting 90-100, which I felt was awesome and was totally going to make my weight loss better. Instead, I have stalled. I wonder if it is because I'm getting way more protein than my body needs at this lower weight, and I would be better off aiming for 60 again and skipping the daily protein shake. Disclaimer, I am in my first real stall at 8.5 months and I'm not particularly stressed about it. I understand stalls and I'm not worried that I am stuck here forever.

    heavy, increased, and extended activity

I am guessing, but you might have a hard time avoiding dehydration with the kind of intense work you describe, especially in the first 3-4 months post op. I am 5 months post op and I have a hard time getting down 60 ounces of fluids daily, and just getting that much in an inactive job is barely what I need optimally. Doing heavy manual labor like you describe, you surely need 5 times that much or more. I can't imagine how you can do it, unless you stop every 5 minutes and drink ...which will limit your work. So yes, get some help. It is critical that you avoid dehydration, or you'll end up in the hospital at worst, or not lose the weight at best (which is not good). The fluids are necessary to help the body process and dump the excess fat.

    Hello...New to this Journey

Welcome to the lapband journey. I went to my first orientation meeting in October and by the end of December had finished jumping through all the hoops of clearances that both the bariatric program and/or my insurance required from me. I had a documented history of the weight with my doctor and weight watcher books showing I had been doing that for 6 months faithfully. Once they got the insurance submission in, it was back in about 2 weeks. Then it took 6 weeks to get on the surgery schedule. I had my surgery on March 17 and I've never regretted it. Still need to lose about another 60 lbs but its going slowly now. Mostly due to my own stubborness at wanting to eat 'easy' foods when I want comfort - even though I know better. The key for me is to keep trying and remember I never want to go back to where I was 140 lbs ago! Best wishes.

    2nd Fill and having pain

I've had the same symptoms. Tightness and pain going down, but I can't eat anything that I want. I don't want to get an unfill yet. I thought that I'd wait until my next appointment in two weeks. I'm hoping that as I loose weight that the band will loosen. We'll see, huh? I have been sticking with soft mushy type foods and I'm loosing weight, which is good! SS

Just got a call for my consult!!!!!

Hi Jacki, Congratulations! I wish you much success during your journey to shedding some weight. I know I read a couple of posts where there were a few 15 yr old that had the surgery done in Mexico. Maybe if you do a search, you'll find it. I do think that you are doing a wonderful job in helping your daughter with her weight loss.
  19. I am 19 days post-op - am doing pretty well - I don't think I have lost much weight but the swelling seems to be finally going down except around my port area - my question is sometimes after I eat I feel a sort of electrical prickly sensation like pins and needles but not painful in my arms and legs. Has anyone else experienced this? I live in Dallas and it is very hot right now so may be heat related but wanted to see if it is normal - I just left my doctor's MA a voicemail about it and my first fill/adjustment appt isn't until August 11th. I also woke this morning with a severe crick in my neck where I can't turn to the left but I think I am trying to blame everything on the band and it probably isn't related at all. Thanks!!
  20. I was banded late March. I feel my weight loss has been very slow, about 16 lbs. I eat all the right foods during the day but by 9:00 old habits kick in & I find myself in the kitchen even though I'm not hungry. I don't always eat but it's a habit that I have yet to break. I read every sheet the Dr gave me before & after surgery & read so much info on the net my head was spinning. I made the asmption once I had the surgery it would be so easy to lose weight & it would just fall off. Well, tonight I took a sledge hammer to that lying ( ) scale! So here's my issue. I've struggled with depession/anxiety all my life. It started to get severe a few yeas ago & it's taken control of my life once again. I take 2 different anti depressants & 1 pill for anxiety. i thought having the surgery would help because who could be unhappy if their skinny & pretty. i was soooo wrong. The mental aspect of the surgery never occured to me. I've tried therapy a few years ago when I started cutting but the only thing I got out of it was more medication. Is anyone else having the same issue? Im looking for real solutions from people that truly know what I am going through. I'm afraid I'm not losing much weight & how in the world do I make this band work for me? I started at 196 and currently am about 180. Does anyone think maybe I'm not losing very quickly because I only need to lose about 60 pounds? I had the surgery to get excess weight off due to a back injury. I had a spinal fusion in 2015 (screws & rods in my spine). Thanks in advance! Sent from my ASUS MeMO Pad 7 using the BariatricPal App

    Ibuprofen?

I am allowed to take ibuprofen if I need it. That's why I chose the sleeve verses any other surgery. I have migraines that I control with ibuprofen too the tune of 1200mg at a time but it's a one shot deal. I however have not needed to take that high of a dose since I've started losing weight. I take Tylenol first... no change in pain? Move on to 200mg of ibu if that doesn't work within 30 minutes I take 1 more ibu and I haven't had that fail to work yet.
  22. Well first off congrats and welcome home. I know that sleeping in my own bed and on my tummy made a world of difference in my mental state. I hear a lot of people gain weight with the surgery fluids and it is great that you have gotten rid of those and now everything you lose will be taking you further south on the scale. You sound like your chugging along, just keep up the work and keep us posted.
  23. i was banded in JUne i not gotten a fill yet because i am losing weight ,with no fill theres no restriction and i cant get a pouch yet because of no restriction iam correct

    Need A Fill And Encoragement!

My nutritionist had me calculate my BMR... Basic metabolic rate. It was 1600 if I was sedentary, meaning if I eat 1600calories a day with no work out, I would maintain my weight. As we want to lose weight we have to create a deficit... Lower our calories and/or add working out... That is how we lose! I am actually doing a 1200cal/day diet and rarely exceed that. If you google the BMR and equate it online, you will have a better idea of your ranges. Hope that gives you some insight!! 5/28/12 pre-op diet started (217lbs) 6/14/12 Surgery 1.8cc added to 10cc band (205lbs). 7/17/12 1st fill (194lbs). 7/24/12 (191lbs) 7/30/12 (187lbs) 8/14/12 1cc added total of 3.8cc (187)

    Need A Fill And Encoragement!

I hate to rain on your parade, but a total weight loss of 50 lbs by Christmas sounds like a big stretch to me. Average weight loss with the band is 1-2 lbs/week, so 40 lbs might be do-able. And at any rate, you're doing great so far and I don't want you to conclude that you're a failure if you don't hit the 50 lb goal by Christmas. How many calories a day does your surgeon/nutritionist want you to eat? I wouldn't be panicking over eating 1000 calories a day, especially if those calories consist of healthy foods (lean Protein, complex carbs, etc.).
