  1. right before I started to gain I was10 up till then I played lots of sports and gymnastics..I'm hoping that little girl who enjoyed being active is somewhere still in me lol I have become incredibly lazy and introverted...I'm sick of being shy and having zero friends and self confidence...I want to see what my adult body looks like! It sucks I have to give up the food I love most but It's going to be worth it..I hope
  2. A question for the group~ So my last fill was in April, filled to about 5ccs. I have only lost about 10lbs since then, and only 25lbs total, so I have felt like I was maybe just a hair away from the sweet spot, but vomiting pretty often and PBing so I haven't wanted to go any tighter. But over the last 6 weeks or so, I have been eating less and less and as I eat less, it seems like the less I CAN eat. I feel like my band gets tighter, the less I eat. I am eating Protein shakes in the morning, yogurt, a soft lunch and chewing really well, but at times turning to shakes just to quell the evening hunger. I am thinking that I might be too tight, but it's so counter intuitive to me because, #1, I am not losing that much weight and #2, I thought losing weight made you looser anyway. Now for the first time I am having heartburn... something that I have never had a problem with before. Why would my band suddenly just get tighter?? Whatcha'll think??

    Still Struggling

Hi, I'm Stacy. I have had two lapband surgery. The first one was 12/06 and the band was too small and I was very sick so my surgeon took out the band and replaced it with a large band in March of 2009. I really haven't lost much weight. I recently started exercising again but I have been eating all the wrong foods so I still am not losing. I am on here, just to claim my seat and learn from those who have had success with the band.

    New with questions!

I was wondering about appeals. I have not yet started the process, so this is me just thinking of all the avenues and I am dedicated in getting this this year soon as I am done with not being able to enjoy life how I want to (that is for another post). But I just switched to my husband's insurance that does cover gastric surgery. The plan says you must try other avenues for a year. On that note, while I was on my own insurance plan that did not cover it I have been under a doctors care for weight loss and diabetes. Do you think I can appeal under the notion that I am under a doctors'a care for a year because of obesity? Otherwise I would wait a whole other year with this new insurance or find another means of getting banding done. Any thoughts on the likelihood of an appeal working? BTW I should add I have been on a leave from work due to all these medical conditions, the weight has aggravated my sciatic nerve and I haven't been able to withstand standing or sitting for any period of time. Yes odd part is I have lost about 50lbs from the previous year I worked. I also have had nerve surgery in my arm and most likely will need it again before returning to work (also due to weight issues); and suffered a major fall which has done nothing but set me back in any rehabilitation I have done. I guess my overall question is with an accumulation of medical issues documented for years is an appeal likely?
  5. Just got notice from my insc. co. that my surgery date will be May 14 at 10a. I had a lapband surgery in 2007 & lost about 75 lbs. after 14 fills, then my band prolapsed & I gained about 45 lbs back. After a lot of stomach pain & gurd I had an endoscopy & my doc said I prolapsed so I decided to go with the sleeve this time. I feel good about my decision but a bit nervous since it's going to be a much longer surgery.
  6. My weight loss has slowed significantly and the PA told me to eat at least 800 calories per day. She first said between 800 and 1200, but when I asked her where to start in that range, she said between 800 and 900 (or 1,000 - I can't remember for sure). I'm almost 2 months out. This was at my 6 week checkup.
  7. lolo1994 WELCOME you joined VSG board at 5:20 am today 12/13/12 - you are still a virgin I Would Have started a blog pre WLS taken measurements taken before and "during" pictures weined off cola and coffee unfortunately i never did ANY of the above and i am so sad that i didn't I would have "tried" watching my food intake, calories, carbs, protein eating slower chewing my food to pieces not drinking 1/2 hr before eating not drinking with food no drinking 45-60 minutes after you eat exercising more weining off the cola and coffee for me, at 6 months prior to WLS - i probably wouldn't have been successful at most of the above - but if you can do the above to get you prepared for the WLS - good for you - more power to you 6 months prior to WLS - the above would been hard for me 6-7 weeks pre WLS - work at the above "I would have tried" to prepare for the sleeve - these are things that you must do post WLS if i had the willpower to do all the rules that go along with the sleeve - i would always have been a great weight, never had health problems et al Six months is a long time to wait for the sleeve - but it will be worth it these are things that you must do post WLS - practicing these things pre-WLS is important, helpful - so you can get used to your new routine with the sleeve working towards a wonderful longer, healthier, happier life i can tell you are a strong, determined, hard working person you can do this!! good luck take care ps ............anything i said above that anyone doesn't agree with oops but i really do believe what i said i'm 11 months and 28 days and ??? hours... post WLS down 99.2 lbs down (.8 lb from goal and century club) and healthy as a horse!! no more diabetes/insulin - high blood pressure, CPAP Must have done something right??? kindof long - oooops

    Newbie But Not Sweating It.

Hi Patti ! I was also banded by Dr Lopez-Corvala on 8/19/11, also great experience, specially that it was my first surgey ever !!! Are you also going back to get your adjustments there? Since my surgery I've only needed two adjustments, I'm down 69 lbs and down from a size 20 to a size 12 I'm working on dropping another 20 lbs to be in a normal BMI. Good luck on your weight lost journey!!! Lunad

    Just Sleeved 6/14

You didn't wake up one morning suddenly fat, and you're not going to wake up one morning suddenly skinny. Like gaining the weight, losing it takes time. Be patient and keep doing what you're doing and it will come off
  10. Hi folks, I was just sleeved almost a week ago tomorrow and I haven't really lost any weight. Should I be contacting my doctor? I'm on a full liquid diet and my calorie intake is between 400-600. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing but the scale hasn't moved. Thanks.
  11. Hi. I do not know how this works exactly.. but here goes! I have ALWAYS struggled with weight. my whole life has been yoyo diet.. I have tried everything, sometimes i have even been successful and lost a lot of weight but i can not manage to keep it off. I have hit a all time low in my life. I have decided to have a GASTRIC SLEEVE but i am struggling to decide what clinic to go to? I keep looking through fourms and reviews and i can not seem to pin point one or two clinics that make me feel 100% confident to go ahead and book a consultation. Can anyone help/share where they went and how they narrowed down their search? thank you

Denied by Tricare!! 6.5 pounds under!!

Do you snore? Are you tired during the day? Do you wake up with headaches? Many overweight people have obstructive sleep apnea. When you sleep, the tissue in the back of the throat relaxes and obstructs the airway. This can be helped with weight loss. OSA can cause major issues in the long run.

Denied by Tricare!! 6.5 pounds under!!

William C Frey1 and John Pilcher2 (1) Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX, USA (2) Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX, USA Published online: 01 October 2003 Background: Obesity is a well known risk factor for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Medical therapy is not effective for morbid obesity. Bariatric surgery is therefore a reasonable option for weight reduction for patients with clinically severe obesity. Unrecognized OSA, especially in those patients receiving abdominal surgery, has influenced perioperative morbidity and morality. The incidence of OSA for patients being evaluated for bariatric surgery has not been previously defined. Methods: 40 consecutive patients being evaluated for bariatric surgery were examined with a history, physical examination and laboratory data. Polysomnography (PSG) was conducted in all patients regardless of symptoms. Results: An obstructive sleep-related breathing disorder (OSRBD) was present in 88% of the patients. OSA was present in 29 of 41 (71%) and upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS) in 7 of 41 (17%). The mean low oxygen desaturation was 84% and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) was 10 cm H2O pressure. The majority of the patients were women and mean BMI was 47 kg/m2. Patient characteristics failed to predict the severity of OSRBD. Conclusions: This population of clinically severe obese patients being evaluated for bariatric surgery had an 88% incidence of an OSRBD, 71% with OSA. Appropriate therapy with CPAP perioperatively would theoretically prevent hypoxic complications associated with OSRBD. Providers should have a low threshold for ordering a PSG as part of the preoperative evaluation for bariatric surgery. Empiric CPAP at 10 cm H2O should be considered for those patients who cannot complete a PSG before surgery.

    From the album: Pre-Op

June 2010. Backpacking trip with my sister in North Carolina. Thought I was going to DIE going up this mountain, but, I didn't. And it was awesome! This is something I would really love to get into after weight loss. And kayaking and canoeing.
  16. Hi there! You've come to the right place for support and understanding. I haven't been banded yet, but I have had surgery and know the fear, and I also understand the fear of failure, because I think about that even though I don't have a date yet. But I know there are a lot of fantastic people here who will help you, and who will tell you that, the band is a tool, and it can and will help you on your weight loss journey. One thing I can't stress enough is the importance of talking to people who understand, and that's what this site is all about. The person you mentioned who eats four hot dogs and then goes to the bathroom is certainly no one you should listen to; you need people who will encourage you, and maybe even give you a little tough love if it's needed. That's what I tell myself. I'm sorry I can't offer much help, but I know someone will come along who can. Stick around, and welcome to LBT! Debbie
  17. Well I got the lap band I have been waiting for on Nov. 1st. I was in quite a bit of pain at first but I feel really good today. So much so that a little bit of my appetite is coming back and I don't like that. I lost 9 lbs. on the 2 week pre op diet and have lost another 11 lbs. since surgery. I have had a LOT of restriction and absolutely no appetite until today. I still have one more week of Optifast and then one week of TrePuree meals. I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I am getting really tired of the shakes although it's really exciting seeing the weight come off. I am trying to hang in there. Dieting can be quite hard on the nerves and I am going to start taking Wellbutrin tomorrow in the hopes that it alleviates some of the anxiety and depression. starryeyed

8 Weeks Out - Slow Scale Movement!

Your weight loss seems really normal for your starting weight!! Right on track. I scoured the boards and vlogs before my surgery to try to set some expectations. I also started at 250. For that weight (and my height... 5'7") it seemed highly typical to go 20-25lbs the first month then 10 ls a month thereafter (until somewhere around month 6-12 where things became harder). Everyone is totally different, and this is obviously anecdotal, but again and again it was what I was seeing (certainly with outliers!) I'd love to hit 50 lbs maybe 4-5 months in. The higher the weight, the faster it comes off, so don't dismay! I'm not immune to comparing (obviously) but never do it unless it's someone with a similar starting weight and height. Good luck!

    rock and a hard place

I was/still am in a similar situation as you. I have researched the band, know that it is the right thing for me. I have struggled with my weight for years and years. I have even decided that I will be a self pay if it has to come down to it. However, having insurance cover it would be ideal. My BMI was barely 40, actually closer to 38.5. It seemed ridiculous to me to have 5-10 lbs. decide on my insurance approval. So I drank a ton of water before my first surgeon appointment, wore the heaviest pair of jeans and sweater I could find, left my keys and cell phone in my pocket (even took my hubby's phone), and was measured at a BMI 40 that is the weight that will be submitting. To my insurance. People may think this is unethical, but I am doing this to better my life. Good luck to you! I will be keeping my fingers crossed fir you and me.

    Regret?

It is also important to remember that bariatric surgery is not a magic weight loss solution. It is simply a tool to help keep you on the right path. Everybody is different. Everybody will have different results. Your body has gone through a huge change. Give it time to do it's thing. Just follow the program and it will happen! It WILL happen! Don't get discouraged. Don't worry about it. Just do it! Good luck!

Diabetics & Protein ?'s, Please Help

I have diabetes and was sleeved on March 18. My family doctor and endoc. both felt that this was a wonderful thing for me to do. It should not affect your liver or kidneys if they are functioning normally according to your bloodwork. My diabetic meds have been reduced and I have been told by doctors that the more weight you lose, the odds are in my favor to totally eliminate all diabetic meds. Hope all goes well!

    Need advice! Pls help!

Yeah, you definitely retain fluid before your period. Can gain several pounds. Just remember it's water weight and will go away.
  24. I have had 3 surgerys on my lower back.. and he wanted to do a fusion but I have been doing exercize and getting shots.. I have a fragment of a disc on a nerve root and scar tissue I am hoping the banding will get out of some of this pain.. I just hate back surgegy and don't want it again.. has anyone had bad back problems that got better with weight loss? just wanted a perspective... I need light at the end of my tunnel...
  25. I think it depends on where the disk problems are. I have a herniated disk in my neck (C5, C6). If the disk problem is lower back, I feel very certain that getting excess weight off will help a great deal. I need to get the weight off, but that will not help future problems in my neck. I did PT and had the epidural procedure and have been pain free (knock wood) for over two years. If I were you, I would not have the back surgery, continue your exercise, have the lap band surgery, and feel pretty confident that the weight loss will alleviate some or most of your lower back pain. I personally would not have back surgery unless I were unable to walk without it. PT can do wonderful things. A good physical therapist is priceless! Good luck to you.
