Today i had my annual mammo. I was escorted to a dressing room. There were several rooms in a group, doors open, and my tech was looking into each one. Finally she stopped at one, said, "ok, go ahead and change, gown open in front, come out when you're finished changing. Bring your purse, leave your clothes." a clean pink print gown lay folded in the chair. I sadly smiled, said thanks, all the while thinking, " ah ok, she was looking for the room with the special, BIG gown in it". I put the gown on, and it fit. All the ties inside and out tied. There wasn't volumes of heavy material wrapped around me, skimming my calves. Hmmmm this is weird. When i stepped out, i see other women stepping out, all " normal" size women, and we were all wearing the SAME PINK GOWN!!! I was wearing a "regular size" gown. Not the XXXL gown, which is a dull white or gray blue color. OMG. I am wearing a normal gown. It was shocking to me. Off to the xray room we go. Again, my pre conditioned thought was " i'll have to wait while she gets the bigger plates" (you ladies know what i mean!!) nope. Normal standard glass mammogram plates. She wasnt having to use both hands like before, one positioning the boob in play, while the other shoved fatty extra tissue from the OTHER side out of her way. When i went back to the dressing room, i peeked into the open dressing rooms. Some had clothes, hanging from hooks..and the rest had clean pink print gowns folding neatly in the chairs. The tech had only been looking for an open room, not a king size gown. I shed a few tears before i left that dressing room. I'm still stunned. Maybe some of you can relate, or at least know that you'll soon have a day like this, too. All my best to each of my sleeve sisters!!! SW 10/31/12: 300 CW 238 50/F 5'10"

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
blindjustice replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think my last straw was after I saw a nutritionist and I weighed in at 357 lbs at age 41. From that day forward, I have been on plan and I have never looked back. I am almost 16 months out and I feel like a million bucks! I got on a plane without needing an extension or buying an extra seat (EMBARASSING) and the tray table went all the way down AND I was in the middle of a 3 person section. I felt like I didn't make them feel uncomfortable. I felt NORMAL!! I avoided going to concerts because I and those people sitting next to me were miserable. I can't wait to see another concert!! I can fit in restaraunt booths comfortably and I have lots of room between me and the steering wheel in my car!!! I have so many more NSVs. Thank you sleeve! -
Why am I a Slowwwwwwwww loser?
VSG_me replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the slow loser boat too! I'm 6 weeks out and have lost 24 lbs (14 of that was the FIRST WEEK!) So that makes the other 10 I lost about 1.6 lbs per week. I haven't been on here as much because there are so many opinions but everyone on this post said it right = we are all individuals! I am looking forward and not backwards. I WILL lose this weight whether it takes a few months or a few years. I could have never got as far as I have without my sleeve and that pleases me to think about it. I'm still in a size 16 and can still fit in most of my pre-surgery clothes, but I can't let that get me down! I just keep telling myself a "slow loss" is better than "no loss", and a "stall" is not a "stop"! NSV's for me: -people have noticed my weight loss, especially in my face -I can sleep on my side comfortably -I can wipe myself easily after going to the restroom (TMI but its true!!) -I can control my portions -I don't get sad when I walk in my closet - I know my size is going to go DOWN! Blessings to everyone on their journey's - especially the slow losers! Keep the faith! -
Today I got out of the shower and a regular sized wrapped completely around my body AND i still had room left over! I've been a slow loser and today I barely hit the 30 lb weight loss mark (7 weeks post op) but its the little things that make it all worth it!! Wooo hooo!

I fit comfortably in the booth at IHOP last night! Plenty of room- hallelujah! We haven't been there and sat in a booth for quite a few months, but wow, what a difference! BTW, I had the steak tips dinner and they let me subsitute the corn and mashed potatoes for a double portion of steamed broccoli. It came with a piece of garlic bread (which I ate half of) and a side salad with honey mustard dressing (which I ate a few bites of). I have leftovers for lunch for the next couple of days now. Loving my sleeve! -Kendra

September Was Your Progress?
Pinky Green replied to jentheyo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bless your heart, someone who is actually shorter than me. I am almost 5'0". I think 4' 11" and a half. My doctor's goal for me is 130. I am currently going between 185 and 187 which is fine with me since so far I don't have much hanging skin and don't want any. I seem to be losing about 6 lbs a month now. Hopefully in 6 months I will be down to 150. Anything is better than 240. I have a new NSV. I can now put my pants on without sitting down and can cross my legs at the knee now. -
Ok, I put aside my vanity and wore my baggy cool weather gear and went out for a ride. 47 degrees, but not a bad way to burn 672 calories in 50 minutes. The part that is really an NSV? While it isn't my fastest time, it is less than a 1/2 MPH off of my fastest and I haven't been on my bike since October of last year when I was 35 pounds heavier than I am now. I definitely noticed that the hills didn't seem as steep, and I didn't seem out of breath. Several weeks of spin class can take some credit, but the weight loss is the real champion. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/282936239

Bandster hell? NSV? Green Zone? I'm not in Oz anymore!
leannel90 replied to flrosie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Love that chart...I've been wondering the same thing. I love the term NSV too! -
Congrats on your NSV's! You have done great and there's a ton more to come. It sadens me that your boyfriend is so insecure and scared that he can't compliment you to give you the support you deserve! He's acting like a boy, not a man.....It's time to sit him down and have a talk with him about his nonsupportive behavior....This is the time to let that confident woman out and ask for what you need from him, if he can't give it to you, then maybe it's time to reconsider your future with him bc it will just get worst....... Smile you are so beautiful and deserving of nothing but love from all the people around you.....

kll724 replied to flrosie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
All of the above. To more explain NSV- it is when you accomplish something that was impossible before loss of weight through banding!IE: fitting into smaller size, not having to have extension on seatbelts, being able to tie your own shoes, painting your own toe nails, get the idea! Best wishes to you and all newbees! Karen, 3 1/2 years! -

When you stall...
Spirit Fire replied to maharet111's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just tell them I'm at a plateau and will start losing again when the plateau breaks. I know some successful people who stalled for 2-3 weeks while other successful people had 9-month plateaus. It is different for everyone. For me, from the very beginning, I've been up-front and honest with myself and others. I've been on a very slow crawl ever since September, but seem to have NSVs often so my body is changing and the way people see me is changing even when the scale doesn't reflect these changes. -
6 month honeymoon is over now what?
libbylou4u replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 9/6/12. Down 77 so far and loving my sleeve. No real issues but still on some meds for diabetes (even tho doc says I can stop my a1c was 5.0!) More energy and today I got up off the floor without touching anything! NSV! I hope we both continue to do well. I plan to be at goal by one year surgiversary! God bless, liz -
An addicts successful realization.
goalseeker replied to kca1fan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This is definitely a success!!! I'm still trying to deal with eating when it's tone to feed the kids and when I'm actually hungry. Great NSV!! -
I agree with the poster who said to find the NSVs. The scale hasn't moved in days for me. It sucks. However, I've had 3 NSV this past week! Today, I went back to work and had two people ask me if I had lost weight, which is related to my second NSV. When I looked in the mirror today, I did a double take! My double chin is rapidly disappearing, it's the reason everyone is noticing my weight loss, it's all in my face (yeah, I wish it was my butt and gut but I'll take it!). Finally, hubby got on the scale on Monday and I weight less than him!! Yeah me! Find your NSVs, they are there!

Well I just did 10 minutes of straight jogging on the treadmill for the first time ever!! I aimed for 5 minutes and kept pushing it 1 more minute and then I said just do 10 minutes and I did it!! I feel AMAZING right now!!!!

January 2013 Sleevers?
wolfpacker replied to LenaVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had another NSV this morning. I have been weighing on the Wii Fit plus scale to keep track of my progress and my goals. Well this morning my BMI went below 35 and I did not max out the obese chart on the Wii. What a good feeling. I was sleeved 1/9. Highest weight 12/26 302, surgery weight 282, weight this morning 244. Feeling great. I think making sure you get your protein and water and making it to the gym at least 5 times a week is the secret. Even my wife is losing and she did not have the surgery. This was the best decision I ever made. Another sidebar-- my daughter is getting married 6/15/2013. I told my wife I would be at my weight that I was when we got married ( june 7 1980) of 210 lbs and asked her if she would be at her marrying weight. She game me the evil eye and said I was cheating!!! -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
StephRenae2508 replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Minnie - You're not alone!!!! I had lost 21 lbs by my 9th day out and my scale didn't budge for over a week. I am finally moving again after about 9 days of no loss. I think our bodies just need to catch up to the changes. Keep following your diet and walking everyday, it WILL pay off. Also, look at those Non-Scale-Victories (NSV) like how your clothes look, fit and feel. Congrats and don't lose hope. Try to keep things in perspective and don't let that evil little scale derail you. YOU GOT THIS!!!!
