Hey guys it's buxndux again. 5 weeks post op and down 20 lbs, most of which was lost in the first 15 days. Since going back to solid foods i have been surprised at what i can eat, pretty much anything! Did you gentelman notice a big differance after your first fill? And did the weight come of easier after that first fill?
-
Hey Bux, like plain it took me 3 fills to really get the weight loss going. I only lost 30lbs in 7 months but last month with my 3rd fill I have hit my "sweet spot" . I've lost 7lbs already this month. Hang in there.

My diet before the preop was to stick within my calorie range for height and weight. She wanted me to focus on portion sizes, protein and making healthy choices but nothing was off limits. I exercised so I could eat more. Bought a fit bit. Lol

Talking to Patients About Expectations
notmyname replied to summerset's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep - my doc consistently told me that the average weight loss is 60% EWL and that if I follow the plan, that's what I could expect. On another thread where people were discussing their goal weights - I said that this was mine and that I don't want to set myself up to feel like a failure. I'm pretty appreciative that my doc is conservative in his estimates. And some other WLS patients on these boards were kind of jerks about it. Saying that by setting of goal of average I was assuming I'd fail and still be obese and why was I even doing it. Even though I'm about 10 lbs from the 60% EWL at 4 months out, so likely to exceed that, I'm still thankful for my doc setting expectation. I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver. Because I know that if I did only achieve the average weight loss, and I'd expected/hoped for more, I would feel like a failure. And that would be very bad for my mental state. Plus, I had to judge whether or not to have surgery based on the most conservative outcomes - would I still be glad I went through it if I was still slightly obese? Yep - because I will still have lost a significant amount of weight that I couldn't have lost without this tool. And, overall, it will make me more healthy, even if I don't get to a "healthy" weight. -
I had that experience. They wanted us to loose some weight prior but we aren't on like liquids for two weeks prior or anything like that like I've heard before. Good luck on 6/11!!!

Talking to Patients About Expectations
Bootscraper replied to summerset's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for this, it was interesting. I'm scheduled for surgery on April 11th and I've noticed that my surgeon/nurse team has not discussed calculating realistic weight expectations post surgery. I have a few more appointments before I go under so I'm going to bring this up. -
I went to my last Nurse practitioner visit today and I gained 3lbs will this stop the insurance from giving me an approval for the surgery?

The two week liquid diet weight fluctuations
aries477 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I am on day 8 of my pre op diet. I swear this gets harder everyday and I am really frustrated because the doctor told me I could lose like 20 lbs in two weeks. I am eating nothing but baby carrots and having 4 muscle milk 100s a day which I know is probably not enough calories (400-600) but why does the scale go up and down? Seeing the numbers go down was the only thing getting me through this horrible diet. Anyone else experience this? -
The two week liquid diet weight fluctuations
gowalking replied to aries477's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay off the scale @aries477. Weight can fluctuate from not just day to day, but at different times of the same day. This liquid diet is not about weight loss, it's about shrinking the liver. And just a heads up....when you are back on food again...even mushy food, some of that weight loss will likely turn into gains until you are on a steady calorie count. Good luck...all of us who were on liquid diets know how hard this part of the process was. We're here to support you. -
3 Month pre-op
survivingsleever replied to butterfly2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fairly easy, they attempt to ween out if you have an eating disorder, have suicidal tendencies, accept responsibility for your current state (weight/health), if you have a history of maintaining your doctor appts etc. I also had to do a 65 true/false questionnaire about what I listed above. They ask repetitive questions attempting to see if your answering truthfully. It's was fairly easy, just be honest and consistent with your responses. Be mindful of your eye contact and body language too. Good luck! -
that's awesome! I'm a carbaholic, so my body is probably like wtheck? at the moment. lol!!! I can't tell a difference or anything, it's probably Water weight - but still nice to see the number on the scale go down

Most people have a liquid or mostly liquid pre-op diet for exactly the same reason, because a lot of overweight people have fatty liver issues. The diet will help a lot, and losing weight after surgery will help even more.

Nervous.... Lap Band or Gastric Bypass?!
Manda87 replied to jenndubbd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 327 when I was banded. The reasons why I chose the band were: 1. It's reversible. 2. I have control. My band can be adjusted, and I won't have to just simply "deal" with just a smaller stomach. 3. Bypass patients will gain weight back. 4. I know a couple of people who had the bypass and they don't look too good. They look saggy. They lose weight too fast and they look saggy and sick. 5. I don't have nutritional deficiencies. 6. Lap Band patients don't have dumping syndrome (google it if you don't know what it is) 7. Surgery is minimally invasive. I have all of my organs and nothing had to be "rerouted." 8. If bypass patients want to make "adjustments" they have to have another surgery. I.e. doctors have to go in and restaple their stomach. 9. I'm sure the ladies that I know that had the bypass are not just losing fat - they are losing muscle. 10. Bypass has a higher risk of complications. Here's another list: Compare LAP-BAND® to Other Weight Loss Options | LAP-BAND® -
They just emailed and said they have an opening in 2 weeks in Juarez with Rodriguez. I have about 24hrs to make the final decision. SOOO Scared and nervous. Just started even thinking about this about 2 weeks ago. I feel like I haven't had much time to process everything!! Has anyone heard anything bad about Rodriquez or the Juarez hospital?? BMI is around 32% and I am scared I will look awful skinny?? Is this wierd?? I can not ever remember a day I was happy with my body or my weight. I say I only need to loose 40lbs but I just can not imagine being smaller than that because it has never been an option untill now :/ But tonight at the dinner table my 7 year old was fighting with his brother over food. That was such a wake up call for me. He said that he loved food. That was the saddest thing I have ever heard. I do not want my kids to love food or be obsessed with food. Somethng has to change somewhere. Why shouldn't it be with me??

1 week Post OP Loudmouth :D
jenontheband replied to TheUrbanWasteland's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your banding! Big step!!! I haven't told anyone outside my immediate family for fear of what happened the last time....they freaked out and talked me out of it ten years ago. As for sisters, they will do that to you. Give her time and she'll see how great it has been for you. I plan on telling family once some serious weight loss happens. It will be obvious then and they can't talk me out of it at that point:) Good luck and journey on! -
Diabeties And Pre-Op Surgery
Sleeved&Hopeful replied to welittle1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My biggest challenge is not caving in and eating something bad for me. Knowing that this may be the last time I can eat solids for a while after surgery has certainly been mind blogging. I have been craving bad foods! It's hard not to cave in. We just have to remember this is to help us with our weight and our diabetes -
1 Year 127 Lbs Gone! At Goal And Then Some!
Stephannie posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's been a while since I posted anything so I thought I would send a quick update. Surgery was 12/13/12 and as of this morning I'm at 119 lbs. (I'm 4 '11 & 1/2 start weight was 246) I can't believe how fast this year has gone by and how much my life has changed. I am truly a participant in life and no longer a spectator. I am proud of how I look, I am confident and healthy. I jump on trampolines with my kids, dance like nobody is watching and run to the car when it's rainy. All things I would have never done a year ago. I've learned so much about who I am and, yes, I'm sorry to say I've learned a lot about who other people are too. In a lot of ways it makes me sad to come to the realization that how you look has such a big impact on how people treat you and even how you treat yourself but I'M HAPPY. Not that "overcompensating funny fat girl happy" but TRULY happy. Today is my 39th Birthday and I remember last year thinking it would be my last fat birthday and I'm happy it was. I am forever grateful for this past year, my incredible surgeon and team at Northwest Weightloss and the support of all of you. As I've heard thousands of times my only regret is I didn't do this sooner. As a wife and Mommy of 5 with a career I never took time to take care of me. THIS I DID FOR ME and I am so glad I did. -
Im just starting my revision process, from lap band to gastric sleeve. I'm waiting on the insurance approval. I have UHC Choice Plus. I'm really excited this change. Not that I don't like my lap band, cause it has helped me to lose some weight, but I'm just not where I want to be. I have been at the same weight for a year now and that is 218. I started at 261 three years ago. So I need some change!! I'm just hoping I get approved!!!

I had my surgery last Tuesday. A little disappointed that I have not lost more weight. Gained coming out of the hospital because of the IV's, I am sure. Guess I wanted it to just fall off...guess that won't happen since it didn't come on over night. Still on liquids for another week before I get to puree my food. My doctor was Dr. Monte Schwartz, Tucson, AZ.

16 days to my operation
♥LovetheNewMe♥ replied to sarcasticandsmart's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sarcaticandsmart, Congratulations on your decision to have Lap-band surgery. I was banded on October the 27. My suggestions for the next 16 days is to follow your doctors orders on the pre-diet. It gives you a nice jump start on your weight loss and prepares you for learning portion control. During my two weeks before surgery I was both excited and nervous. I had never had surgery before and must admit I was scared. I have a long way to go but am so excited to get started, I am tolerating liquids well and still struggle with my protein shakes because I am not a sweet drink person. I strongly suggest you take these next 16 days and find a protein drink you like because taking in your protein is very important to your weight loss and health. I found some unflavored, no odor powder I like that I can mix in just about anything I drink and it does not change the consistency or flavor. Good luck on your journey. Wish I had made my sooner.:hi: Diane -
17 year old-2 months post op
jackie506 replied to xok8linxo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Caitlyn. First I want to congratulate you on your weight loss and secondly I am very curious also, how did you get the lapband at your age. We have checked into it for my daughter and we were told she has to be 18 within the US. I know there is a doctor in MX that does younger patients but my doctor/surgeon says that she would have to go back there for any complications, fills and etc. I was just wondering. By the way, I live in Iowa and our insurance will cover this for her once she turns 18. We We have close to 2 years and that is ok because she is doing the physician supervised diet now. I figure we will go this route and hopefully this works but if not at least she has that done because our insurance requires this to be down within 2 years prior to surgery. -
14 Weeks Out and major stall
DestinClair1983 replied to ShayLove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maybe try to drink more water, exercise more. Make sure you're keeping accurate track of all that you're consuming. It could just be your body adjusting, maybe you're still losing inches even if you're not losing pounds, which I know firsthand how frustrating that is. If all else fails, what I have done and has worked for me is to eat more calories for a few days, for me It was anywhere from 1200-1500 calories, and then go back to 600-800 calories daily, and the scale would start moving again. Of course I would gain a pound or two initially with the upped calories, but when I would go back to the 600-800 range, I'd lose those few pounds easily and them some, and then continue to drop steadily...until the next stall hits lol. Good luck! -
Pre- Surgery tomorrow at 8am
Bloomer723 replied to AllStar1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my first appointment 8/27 and then my psych appointment 9/7. Just starting but my PCP is on board and insurance has been verified. I am on a call wait list if there are any cancellations before 8/27. I'm struggling with keeping my weight up over 40 BMI because I have no co-morbidities. My care coordinator doesn't want me below 220 (I'm at 225) for my first appointment. Of course I want to exercise and stop eating so much crap now. I don't want to wish time away but I sure will be happy for 8/27 to get here. -
Congrats on your awesome weight loss! Keep up the great work! How are you feeling these days?

:001_smile:I am penciled in for July 13th with my surgeon, Dr. Mitchell Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital here in NY. At this point I am just waiting for final insurance company approval which I hope to have this week. I've been a little frustrated with the process, but that seems mainly to be because I think the surgical coordinator in Dr. Roslin's office is relatively new and I am not so sure she knows what she is doing. Anyway, some of you may remember me from my introduction. I am 44 and the widowed father of three kids 15, 10 and 9. I've battled my weight my whole life, but gained about 25-30 pounds in the last few years as I coped with my wife's illness, death and the aftermath of all that. The good news is that I've told the kids and they are 100% supportive of my decision to have this surgery which is important to me as I really feel that I am doing this for ALL of us. Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Thanks to all of you, especially you Tiffykins, for being such a great source of information, support and inspiration. Brian
