Hi-- I'm going to a family wedding over Memorial Day weekend. Of course, there will be a rehearsal dinner and my partner is in the wedding so I have to dress nicely because I will probably be in the couple's pictures. I was really in a quandry about where to shop. I haven't had a big fancy affair to go to in a long time. I still have a little anxiety about size. Also, like a lot of WLS patients, I am losing all my weight above the belt. I am down to a 12/14 on top (except for my boobs) and I am still an 18 on the bottom. Not a great combo for a dress, right? So I go to Nordstroms (I figured I would spend some $$ if I could find something that looks good). I found 2 dresses!!!!!! I have to have them both tailored becaue they are too big on the top, but they are both so pretty. Best part? They are both size 14 :-) Just 2 months ago pre-op I would have bought a size 18 dress and cried behind closed doors because I wuold have thought I looked so bloated and bad. My lap-band never treated me this well So, to top it off I also bought 2 new pairs of shoes. My bank account may be crying, but I am smiling. Lara

RESULTS FROM UPPING CALORIES
SmokyMtnGal2011 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No magical potions, this is trial and error. If you are not losing weight then you are consuming too many calories and/or not excersicing enough to burn calories - it is that simple and yet that hard. It is not easy to find the happy place on the calorie intake and output for a body. I too am hypothyroidic and have a very low metabolism, so i have to eat much less than most people and exercise more (which i hate). We are all different and you have to find what works for you and that takes time, planning and lots of trials. WLS is a tool not the complete answer, you still have choices and free will to do or not to do what your body needs. Best wishes in your quest. -

maintaining weight loss after lap band is removed
Sallianne posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does anyone know of a support group for those who have had to have their band removed due to erosion or slippage, etc., and had no other type of replacement. I am scheduled to have my band removed and need support and encouragement to not gain my weight back. If anyone knows of success stories, please HELP! -
I am sooooo excited!!! 50 pounds ago I could not find a comfortable bra. I had basically given up and only wore one when I absolutely had to because they were so miserable. I squeeeeezed into a 44DD because it was so hard to find a 46DD. Well about 5-6 weeks ago I was able to buy 40DD and they were SOOOOO comfortable. I had to wear them on the loosest notch but they felt great! ALL DAY EVEN!! Over the last couple weeks I had to switch to the tightest notch and now that I have lost even more weight I can no longer wear these 40DDs that I just bought!! I am super comfy in a 38DD!!! I AM ELATED!!! Hooray for happy, comfy boobs!!!

I found an awesome lingerie shop in Kansas City that sells unusual bra sizes. They cost a small fortune, but it's worth it! About 1 year into my weight loss journey, I went for a real, honest-to-God, bra-fitting! What an eye-opener! About a year after finding this wonderful store, I moved to Colorado and haven't found another specialty store like it - even in Denver. (You don't want to know what comes up when you Google search for "specialty lingerie"). So now, every time we go home to visit family on vacation, I go in and buy a few new bras. I'm sitting here typing this wearing a 34G!!! I don't think I've been in a 34 since I was in junior high - and that was a loooonnnggg time ago! If any of you ever have the chance to have a real bra fitting by a professional, I highly recommend it! It's amazing what a difference it makes! Someday, when I finally reach goal and stay there for at least 6 months, I hope to get a lift (and maybe reduction) at the same time I lose some of the extra skin. But until then - the girls will be comfy in their 34G!

Newbie here. Having Sleeve Surgery this week
NewKat replied to janetrupp's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Janet! I am extra glad to see you on here since we have so much in common! I am 56 and had my surgery 8/31/11. First couple of days were rough, but they kept pain and nausea under excellent control. I was shocked at how well I could walk the hall by that night. My weight was 245 on the day I started my week of liquids and my last weigh in was 218, so I am really glad of that. I have not lost any in several days, but I have no problem with that. I have read enough on here to know this is normal and this too will pass. I had a couple of set backs the last few days and have gone back for fluids twice, so they are going to show up on the scales for a day or so. I wish for you a smooth, safe surgery. Get home soon and don't think anyone is not telling the the truth when they say to sip, sip, sip! Take your meds and walk! Kathy -

Hi all !! I am so glad I stumbled onto this website. Since I decided to have the surgery, I have been "google'ing" everything I can. I found this website and joined today. What a wonderful idea to have all the support a person needs at this time. I am 58 yrs old and will be having the vertical sleeve surgery on Friday Sept 16th. Needless to say I have mixed emotions. First being so excited that my 5'0" body will soon get rid of most of this weight. I am now 240lbs now....ugh I know...But also a little scared since it is all new to me. Reading alot of your stories sure helped ease my mind. Any help you can send my way to make the experience easier I would appreciate. Not to mention your prayers for Friday will be appreciated also. Feeling Down :(
PandorasBox92264 replied to pattyrg15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all is it that time of the month or coming in close? How often are you weighing yourself, if it is daily you will see a fluctuation. I have gotten into the trap of weighing daily and it will make you obsess, so if so then stop it! I gained right before my last appt I gained 3 lbs, which kinda irritated me! I come back and then it started to even out some and dropping back off. I had been in a situation where I got dehydrated and was sweating and I just seemed to poof up. The following week I made sure to drink lots of Water. Make sure you are eating enough calories too, if you go too low your body might hold onto everything. After the above situation I also bumped up the calories for a day and it seemed to help. So don't give up since you will have fluctuations. Good luck -

Back Pain Not Going Away after Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Griselda replied to lilymorg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had back issues since way before the surgery and wanted to make sure I could still take some of the stuff that I found the most helpful for the pain. I take tramadol (pain) and flexeril (muscle relaxer) when it gets bad, although it is much better since I have lost weight. It is true that your body shifts a big when you lose or gain weight, like when I was pregnant, my back pain was terrible. Do ask them what is safe for you to take, but my surgeon told me there was no problem with tramadol or flexeril. I never found tylenol did anything much for any kind of pain. -

Btw, congrats on your weight loss! -
Okay so tomorrow I go on puréed foods and my biggest fear is since I will be eating actual food with carbs and calories (not clear liquid) is that I will gain weight. I'm on day 6 and I have lost 18 lbs since I left the hospital! I'm shocked too! Anyone else feels this way or have advice?

Six Months O'Sleeve: Tell Me I am not stuck at 219...
purple tulip replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have almost the exact same stats as you. I am about the same time frame out from surg and loose the exact same way.....I also am stalled and frustrated. Though I haven't considered filleting myself yet I have been trying to reflect on if there is anything else I could do differently. I was stalled for quite awhile and I sort of became discouraged to the point where I started to let myself slide a bit....almost that old self- sabotage behavior (though not nearly has bad) This of course has really made be me stall even longer and thrown me off track for the past month and a half. It is time to regroup and go more hardcore towards this goal. It's ok...We can do this. Just stay focused (try not to derail like I sort of did for a bit) and the weight will eventually come off. -
Friend says she has 11 cc's in a 15 cc band...
pixistix replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's my understanding that while the Fluid does not evaporate or anything, as we lose weight, our bodies change. There can be less tissue pressing against the stomach, etc. So what was once perfect restriction can change over time and we may need a little more fill later on in the process. Also, according to a book I perused, it's possible for a small amount of air to leak out of the band through the port, creating a slightly different feel. Bandsters can be very sensitive to extremely small changes. I've heard people describe how .1 CC can make all the difference -- one tenth of a CC. That's a tiny amount. So to me, the moral of the story is never give up. The "miracle" of proper restriction is always possible. It can take some finessing, but it's WORTH IT!!! -

1 Year Anniversary- 60 pounds down and non-scale victories
yl2010 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can't believe I've just passed my 1 year anniversary. It's incredible to be 60 pounds lighter. Each week, when I weigh in, it feels like the weight is coming off so slowly, but a year later, I see how quickly it all adds up. It hasn't all be smooth. I've twice had to have fills decreased because I couldn't even hold down liquids. And I've had to learn how to eat in new ways. After years of dieting, all of a sudden chicken breast is the enemy not a staple-- I just can't swallow it. And every once in a while, something I've eaten a hundred time in the last year, just doesn't go down. But despite everything, it's all been worth it. I know from the scale, and the mirror and the compliments, of course, but there's more. So I wanted to look at the non-scale victories: * I have so much more energy * My feet don't ache after walking home * My shoulders don't ache from the bra straps digging in * I have emptied my closet of boxes of smaller clothes that now fit * I have donated many boxes of clothes that are too big * I have learned to love my trainer (if not always the actual workouts) * I have truly learned to love yoga What are your non-scale victories? -
2 MONTHS OUT HARDLY NO WEIGHT LOSS[emoji26]
Read2016 replied to Christina_rny.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two months you lost almost 30lbs, I would not call that no weight loss. Yes I can see why your saying what your saying, but I think you need to Celebrate your success and keep going... Maybe tweak your excercise etc... Post op people will probably have better advice... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Eating too much before first fill
TerriDoodle replied to essieburton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cristi -- I hear your frustration! I had enchiladas Friday night and Fetucinni Alfredo Saturday night!! (PB'd both of them, but that's another story.) And yes, I eat them in ridiculously small portions, so mentally I am OK with that. However, I ALSO know that I'm not getting proper nutrition to fuel my body and I'm not going to lose weight that way. I'm down to 180 and even in "moderation" those types of meals will not allow me to lose weight. You can be sick of these comments or not, it won't change the fact that you have to make healthy choices to lose weight. Sorry, but that's the deal. My doctor did not suggest a particular eating plan. He didn't even put me on a pre-op diet! He said, "Enjoy the foods you've always enjoyed but in smaller portions." Well, the 1st 6 months I was a very good little bandster and ate fish, veggies, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. I also worked my butt off at the gym 4x a week. I lost weight. 6 months later I hit a plateau, quit the gym, relaxed my eating rules, and haven't lost anything significant since November. Hello? What's the lesson here?? Do what you like. Eat how you like. But you will have a much more difficult time getting the weight off....especially after 6 months and your body has made it's adjustments. It's up to you! -

essieburton replied to essieburton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replies!!! Everyone is right, I need to make better choices, I forgot thats how the weight came on!! LOL! Thanks again! -
If I didn't get the band I don't think I would have ever reached old age. I still may not, but my chances are better now without over 100 pounds of extra weight taking me down.

Offically Banded...and Feeling Weird
Myshel65 replied to brlgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow our story is soooo similar. I was banded 4/26 and thought I gained too but the weight since surgery has been coming off so fast. Obviously because we can barely eat but still. I've lost a pound a day and started at 265 before 5 day liquid diet. Now I'm at 255 I cant wait to see the 230's which I literally haven't seen in about 3 years!! Whoooo we can do it! I'm so excited -

gale_1016 replied to brlgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to see the 230's either! I was 248 the morning of surgery & today, a week later I'm 243. It's only 5 lbs, but I'm still convinced I have some swelling in my belly considering I still can't suck my tummy in! I was 236 when I got pregnant with my son. He's almost 10 months old....way too long to be holding on to baby weight!!! -
Soooo...I have a confession I have been a Peeping Tom on this site for about three months now. I'm not big on posting and all but I did want to let you all know that this site has been tremendously motivational. Any and every question I ever thought of was here with the answer to it. I had my sleeve with TLC Surgery on July 27th, 2011 pre op weight was 292 before I started with the 2-week pre op diet. I will be three weeks out this Wednesday and weighed in this morning at 256....I feel great and just wanted to let you all know. I'm sure there are a lot of other people who come here for silent motivation as well. You ladies and gents are awesome. Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to "Onederland"
