I'm in NYC and it is still snowing. I too like certain things on snow days: Double stuff Oreos. Last week I did not resist and bought and ate them all. This time No way. I made pizza with my 8 year old niece. Small whole wheat wraps, pizza quick sauce and reduced fat Mozzarella with turkey pepperoni. We made three and 'surprised' her mom with it. It was really good. Niece said we should do this every time it snows. So Now we have a new tradition. I think the shoveling has kept me from gaining. LOL

getting worried... anyone to talk with?
Lovelycurves replied to Lovelycurves's topic in Insurance & Financing
Well after my psych eval in march is when my doc will submit to my insurance. And yes waiting is the hard part, but I'm going to stay positive because I have been doing what I'm supposed to. I decided to switch to the DS firstly because my doc brought it up, and I didn't know insurance would cover it till I talked to him so I didn't do my research to begin with, and then decided to do my research and there's a lot to the DS that I feel would be a bit better for me. Such as keeping the valve unlike in the RNY also because with RNY you only lose about 60% of excess body weight and with the DS you actually lose about 85% excess body weight, and with the RNY people usually gain some weight back, and with the DS weight gain is almost never seen. So that's definitely a plus for me. because if I'm going to get surgery and do everything right I don't want to stable out with some weight gain from my lowest weight which usually happens with RNY paitients (not all but some) so I've done a lot of research and I feel the DS is for me. There are some things though that are negative such as body odor is stronger but fixes itself within the first 6 months and having to take in MORE protein and vitamins but that's ok for me. He said the DS isn't for everyone but I do believe its for me. And I've done A LOT of research on it. -
Hello everyone, Sorry, but I really need to vent. I was banded on December 14th 2005. I had lost a total of 15 pounds. But today when I weighed myself, I was up top 304 again!?!?!?! I am soooo upset. I really don't feel any restriction so I find myself just eating and eating. But I am only eating mushies still. I have been sick for a few days so I haven't been able to work out, but I just don't understand. Even though I am eating, I am staying under 1200 calories every day. When I called my doctor today to schedule for a fill, they told me I HAVE to attend a LAP band class before they will do it. I was so mad because the next class is February 6th. So I basically feel like I am gonna be wasting another month and possibly gain all me weight back. Well thanks for listening everyone.

Restriction Question
justinsmami91 replied to justinsmami91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really have any secret...way back when I started this whole process I was weighing 316...down to 248 now...day of surgery 290...so like 42 pounds...watching what I eat and going to the gym...back when I was heavier...didn't even want to leave my room...now less weight...doing more stuff (activities)...i thought my weight loss was going slow...i guess not...was going to the gym twice a day...now back down to once a day...in the morning before work...twice a day got to be too much for me...i was pushing myself too much...walk at work a lot so I guess you just gotta stay active...what is the normal weight loss? never thought about it. -
Hello eveyone, I had my first fill and I must say after looking at everyone's weight loss , I'm not doing to well I've lost 11lbs total. I have started the gym last week I went 3 days and worked out for 30-45 mins so hopefully this will help. And also I have a concern about mt restricion after being fill the Doc said he put 6ccs....but I think it had to been more like .6 right? I still feel pretty hungry but when I do eat I feel like something is getting stuck in my back, kinda like if you eat to fast and feel like something is stuck in your esphogas is that call restriction? I mean I don't feel full just something weird also I think I've been PBing cause when I feel that feeling alot of saliva comes up.....any advice would be great __________________

first fill on 11/8/07 weird stuff happening
coltonwade replied to magooz07's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
First off, you cant compare yourself to anyone or everyone else. You are an individual and your loss will be different than everyone elses . The gym will help your right. About your restriction , how big of a band do you have ? If you have a 10cc band then 6cc's might be right . But it takes time for the restriction to kick in , it also takes several fills for you to find the proper restrcition . If you just had your first fill it sounds like some patients is what is in order. it all takes time. As others say "the weight didnt come on over night its not going to come off over night" IF you are getting the "golf ball " feeling in your throat for me that is my " your full stop eating " feeling and that is when I know to stop eating . If you feel that feeling stop eating. If you feel that AND you have saliva come up and you food comes up and you throw up THAT Is pbing. PBing nothing more than throwing up really . IF you can not eat solids with out geting that feeling AND the saliva coming up or throwing up your too tight and need an unfill most likely . BUT since you just had a fill sometimes after fills we need to focus on the rules again , make sure your chewing your food, taking small bites and eating slowly . If your having problems with the fill call your doc. HTH Mindy -
Weight loss pre-op
tesser85 replied to nervousnelly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it depends on when in August your surgery is and how much weight you are supposed to lose pre-op. What does your surgeon recommend? When are you supposed to start the liquid diet? -
I stopped losing weight at about 3 weeks post op, and the scale hasn't moved since. It's been holding steady and pissing me off. How long do I need to wait? How do I get the scale moving again????

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the site and love all the positive info. I hope to be banded before the 1st of the year. Just started hoop jumping. I'd love to hear from anyone in Louisiana. I'm from Kenner (just West of New Orleans) Being overweight down here in THE BIG EASY is a way of life. The last 4 generations of my family have all had weight problems, not to mention heart disease, HBP, diabetes etc. I'm ready to STOP THE MADNESS, and pray my children won't have to suffer. Sounds silly...but my only concern is this: I sleep on my stomach. Will I be able to feel the band? After I lose some of the cushion??? Thanks for being there,

Arrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!! How do these people get these jobs?
Phoenix Rising posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, you may have gathered from the topic title that my last appointment did not go well. I think you could call that an understatement. As many of you will have seen from my last posting I have been having huge problems with Water retention and water tablets not working. I decided to return to my old water tablets on the day of my appointment and did lose 9lbs of water in just over 3.5 hours. Hooray! So that helped alot but I was still carrying at least another 5lbs extra water. Soooo, I went and got weighed and then we had the talk...obviously I had not lost the 5% required and therefore they could not put me forward for surgery. (I had lost the weight but then had the problem with the water tablets and gained water weight!) I explained about the water tablets (that they insisted should be changed!) but it didn't help at all. The woman I was dealing with was just so unhelpful and unfeeling. I showed her my ankles (they were measuring over 16 inches and so full of water/oedema it was impossible to miss) She said and I quote " lots of people have water tablets and they all manage to lose the 5% required!" I was devastated. I asked to speak to someone else above her as I couldn't believe her attitude. The upshot is they are giving me another two weeks to reach the 5% goal. I hope I can do it but with all this water still hanging around I am seriously worried, as they still want me to use the other tablets!!!!! Are they mad, what part of, they are not working, don't they understand. Sometimes I really worry about the NHS and their not too bright staff. (that is not really fair as most people are just brilliant - I was just really 'lucky' and got the moron!) So here we go again, the milk diet for another two weeks (that will make a total of 8 weeks) and if by week one the water is just sitting there I am definitely going against their advice and using my old tablets! Sorry for going on, but I really needed to get that off my chest. -
6 more days until surgery I got on the SCALE Question
Redapples replied to Redapples's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand I think if I would have stayed at my same weight 338 he would cancel my surgery. Now I'm 315 as of this morning 315. I'm trying my best to make sure I shrink my liver for a safety surgery. It's so hard being on this pre op diet. It's more of a mind thing for me. Do you have a surgery date? 6 more days until surgery I got on the SCALE Question
Redapples posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My official started date of pre op diet was July 13, so far down 21lbs. I'm happy my goal is to lose 10lbs in 6 days. I think I can do it with liquids and a little excercise. My doctor didn't want me to gain weight. Does anybody have a goal to reach in there Pre op diet? Or do your doctor have goal for you? Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app -
Getting calories up
Inner Surfer Girl replied to amounteer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will lose weight if you increase your calories. It sounds counterintuitive but keeping calories low will actually keep you from losing weight. Eating enough is critical for healing and weight loss. Add an extra protein-rich snack or two to your plan. Eating more real food rather than solely relying on Protein shakes will also help. -
Hi Abby! Nice to see you here. I was wondering how you were, you were so sweet and supportive before the surgery! I too have had very slow weight loss. I have lost about a total of 25 since Aug, and I too have not given it my best shot. I guess the thing that I was surprised at is that it actually takes effort! Something I have not been so good at in the past. I have not had good restriction because each time I have had a fill (I am up to 6 CCs in my 10 CC band) it feels TOO restricted and I can't even get down Water and they have to remove most of the fill. However, at this level I feel no restriction. Not sure how I will get to that spot, I will just keep trying. Hang in there, we just need to refocus! Lisa

MissK! Don't beat yourself up. While you shouldn't be consuming empty calories and junk food, I personally believe that if your band is tight enough you will not gain weight... you might not lose it, but I think weight gain is a sign of a band that is too loose. If it had been 4 months since your last appointment, I would bet money that you were in need of another fill... you lose restriction as you lose weight! I hope things are better now and that you're back on track. I finally started losing weight and I am steadily, but also very slowly losing weight at about a pound a week.

I'd be curious to know too as I also have a lot of tattoos. I figure I can always get them touched up/added to/covered up if they look too weird/bad after I lose weight. But yeah, I've been thinking about investing in some kind of skin firming lotion to use as I lose weight, but I still need to look into that (I know strivectin works really well but it's *really* pricey, I know vitamin e is supposed to work too, but I don't know)

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but I'm supposed to drink one ounce every fifteen minutes. Which leaves no room for anything else. LOL the pain in the incisions are breathtaking, and my stomach feels like it's cramping sometimes. Im in more pain than i thought id be. Ive noticed that I can drink about one and a half ounce before I get full...super full. And I notice that i don't have any cravings... But I would like a crunchy taco right now, just to have that crunch sensation. I promised my doctor that I wouldn't weigh myself before I see him again. My appointment is on Tuesday. But already I can tell that I've lost some weight, just by looking at my neck. One chin down, one more to go LOL. Getting my Protein in is a HUGE challange. liquid stuff is Disgusting. But... If I mix New whey Protein tubes with Water it tastes like crystal light....go figure. One thing I can't stomach is Jell-o... Ugh gross. But other than this I am doing well. Ready to get some cream Soups cause this broth ain't cutt'n it :-)

He Knew All The Wrong Things To Say!
berniec replied to SheVsMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love your attitude. I have been over weight most of my adult life but I've never had a self esteem problem love me for who I am or don't claim you love me at all. I am so proud of you. -
I'm a 36 year old female and was banded on 1/27. I have lost 65 pounds since then and am just over halfway to my goal. Due to chronic tonsilitis, I am going to have to have a tonsillectomy in December. I was wondering if anyone has had to undergo this procedure after being banded. If so, can you tell me how it went for you? I hear that it is incredibly painful for adults, so that is something to look forward to. My surgeon has said that I will need to get a complete unfill which makes sense. I know that I won't be able to eat after the procedure, so I'm not overly concerned about gaining weight during this time. I think my biggest concerned is "starting over" with the fill process. I have (possibly unnecessary?) concerns that it will somehow be different. Just curious to hear any applicable stories. Thanks!!

I have had this issue as well. My doctor just keeps giving me a pill to make it stop, and then it restarts your cycle. It could be the weight lose and hormone change. I would call your doctor though. There could be a serious issue. Good luck!

I had 1 big meeting, where we met everyone, and they showed us the different kind of surgeries, and I paid to get their main book. After that it was psych, dietitian, physical therapy, internal medicine, cardiologist, visits to my family Dr., and visits to the surgeon to set up surgery date, and monitor my weight loss before i had surgery. This way he new if we were serious about weight loss. Took 1 year, that's what my insurance wanted. Hope it gives you an idea..

For the LADIES Only Please...

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about. You lose weight pretty evenly throughout your body, depending on your body type. Can you be a little more specific? -
