iron deficient anemic
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all. My Dr did tell to continue iron supplement but it's a tablet. So i sent hubby out later night to get a chewable. He came back with the above. I hesitated taking it because of the herbs. I knoe I can take vitamin c but it had trace amounts of rose hips and a couple other items in there. I will wait until Monday and check with the Dr. I wanted to make sure I got back on something bc i know surgery csn make the iron low again and my wonderful monthly friend came a few days later (tmi sorry). But that was the other reasons I felt like I should get on something right away. And I refuse to crush up the tablet is have. The pill tastes disgusting on my tongue lol. Thanks all! -
Thats great nothing is tmi IM MY OWN MOTIVATION

I really need lots of fibre to manage IBS and having no rectum and no " push" muscles but Metamucil, Benefibre, Normafibe, all of them give me tons if pain, bloating and gas. But LSA mix or just plain ground linseeds, absolutely fantastic - soft easy to pass stools without urgency or bloating. Sorry for TMI but when you've lost thtat part of your body and naturally produce something that looks like rabbit poo, to produce something larger than what the cat left in the litter box is cause for celebration!!!! I sprinkle on muesli, str into yogurt, use to make low carb minute muffins or alternatively, eat a big spoonful followed by a glass of Water.

Being Tested For C. Diff. (Clostridium Difficile) Ugh!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello #4, Well it happens from strong antibiotics or you can get it from someone else who has it. For me I was on heavy antibiotics so it wiped out my natural balance in my intestines/bowels. The worse part is I'm not contagious if I have it so I have to be extremely careful so no one else in my family gets it. Craziness! The antibiotic caused it and get this...what heals it is yet another antibiotic. It can cause bigger issues if it's left too long to fester so if I do have it, I'm sure hoping we caught it early enough to not cause colitis or other issues. I had to look this up because naturally the surgeon only mentioned it didn't explain it all. I'm sure she will once we know for sure. It's just not pleasant. It causes cramps or pain in the abdomin but, my period is now 8 weeks late as well so I thought at first that was part of it too. Hoping to hear soon. I think I threw the woman off in the lab. She gave me the sample cup, toilet guard, baggie and told me to put the date and time I did the sample. Then bring it back to her and they'll test it. I think she thought I was going home. Heck...didn't take long to give the sample. TMI I know but, that's how sick I'm feeling with this right now. Yuck! Besides if they have to culture it for 3 days I didn't want to wait yet another day. Thank you for your support. I appreciate it. I keep saying....this will all be worth it. It's for the best....as I squeeze my cheeks and pray to the porcelain Gods LOL -
Has Anyone Had A Leak With There Sleeve
Sweetyne01 replied to starr1202's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I am in the hospital now with a possible leak. My surgery was 11-12, I was released 11-14 back on 11-18 with severe pain. They waited too long to do my ct scan so now I have to wait until tomorrow. But they did remove about 5 cups of nasty stuff yesterday. Sorry if that was tmi! -
Hi all, i am currently 15 days post op and am transitioning into my puréed stage of food. Any tips for puréed stage and being at work? i go back to work on the 25th and i work in Daycare/Childcare so a very attentive job. My surgeon has advised i need to wait 30 minutes to drink water and wait 10 minutes if i’ve had water to eat before hand. As i work this job it’s sort of hard. Any tips on what foods you guys ate im really struggling on this. I made a mushroom soup and puréed it and had a teaspoon of it and (TMI!!) regurgitated as the texture was awful. Please help me 🫶🏼

Let's talk about POOP...FLOATERS OR SINKERS
Brandy~ replied to health4life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You cannot be serious lol... After reading the last 2 pages (I can't believe I admit to that) I don't think that there is any possible way that there could be a response that is TMI. -
Well, the title says it all. I am 4 1/2 months out and for 3 days the toilet bowl has been full of blood. I am not struggling to poop and I don't know if it's related to my sleeve or not...?

Hello all, I am on my second night post-op and I am feeling completely bloated/nauseous/painful. I have not been able to pass much urine since they took the catheter out this morning and I was wondering if any of you had the same problem? I am getting down liquids slowly but I am sure some of the bloating is due to the inability to pass these liquids. Silly enough, I felt worlds better yesterday than I today. Anything more than the tiniest sip of Water and it feels like a bubble of water is lodged in my throat for a minute or two. It does dissipate, but it's incredibly painful. Anyway, I just wanted to see if other people had this issue/how they dealt with it/how long it lasted. Thanks

I had my surgery on the 25th too. Physically, I feel better than I anticipated but feeling crummy stomach wise. It took me an hour to get my protein shake down this a.m. and there was no way I could get the recommended lunch and dinner one down. I am not nauseous but just an "ucky" feeling. Anyone have experience with this? I feel like even though I barely had anything today that I may have been overdoing it too quickly when I did. I hope this subsides as I have been kind of down feeling crummy and (sorry, Tmi) gassy. Hope this may just be still residual effects from anesthesia. Good luck to everyone!

I've had 3 Brazilians--would definitely do more if I could afford it! The 2nd and 3rd ones where significantly less traumatizing than the first. I wanted it all off though--don't particularly care for the landing strip, or whatever type that's called. The clean feeling afterwards made my want to run nekked through a field of wildflowers....ok TMI. The advice I got was to remember to gently exfoliate the area in the days after to avoid ingrown hairs. Those lil' things were the only real setback for me. A bit of Hydrocortizone helps if you get them.

Tomorrow will be 1 month since my surgery - and I know there are several of you out there in the same boat - so I thought we should check in and compare stats. I'm 5'8", starting weight was 296, surgery weight 283 and weight today is 258. I'm eating between 600-800 calories a day, less than 50g of carbs, and at least 60g of Protein. I dont exercise yet, other than some light walking, but I plan to start soon. In less concrete news, I feel great. I've been working since 2 weeks out and not really experiencing any more exhaustion than usual. My hunger is starting to pick up the last couple days, but I think that has to do with hormones more than anything else. My only complaint is constipation (sorry, TMI!) but its not the worst in the world. I'm a little disappointed with my 25 pound weight loss in the first month, but only because I lost 16 pounds of it in the first week and since then its been a slow slog. How are all of you doing?

Ok . . Beware TMI before you read BUT having been close to an ED visit . . I feel your pain . . Literally. So I'm going to pass on what my sister advised . . She's been a nurse for 30 years. Buy 2 Fleets MINERAL OIL enemas & 2 Fleets saline enemas. Get on all fours & drop your elbows down onto towel on floor so your butt is higher than your head. Use the oil enema & lay on your left side. Keep the oil inside for at least 30 minutes but longer if you can. I held it for about an hour. NOW here is where it gets . . Ummm . . Interesting. Double glove & SLOWLY use your finger to hook & remove small fecal pieces. The stool is hopefully soft so you can remove some stool & maneuver the rest into a shape you can pass. PLEASE be very careful & SLOW. My sister said your heart rate can drop & cause you to pass out. If you can't deal with this . . & luckily I didn't have to go this far . . Go to the ED. They are going to give you an oil enema or soap suds enema & then manually remove impaction. Some people use the mineral enema & hold it overnight. The enema will NOT stimulate a bowl movement . . Just soften the stool. Please plan to be at home the next day if you can. The oil will continue to leak over the next 12 hours. I had to go to work the next day & placed a pad in my panties. Was still a mess & I only made it to 2 pm before I just had to come home to clean up. You can use the saline enema to clean the mineral oil out but I wanted the continued lubrication. Sorry so graphic but let's face it . . This situation can be so bad that we have to talk about it. Remember, you have to be very careful if you try to manually remove some stool. This can be dangerous so if the stool is still hard, go to the emergency room or urgent care or your doctor. Not sure a physician's office will remove impaction. I wish you all luck.

Congratulations! I see you are even under goal, and in less than one year. It is a little daunting to shop now, for sure. I bought some pants earlier this week that were size 14. I tried on a 12, and they fit, but there was something about them, like maybe I didn't believe that I was really okay with wearing a 12. So today, three days later, I went back and bought the 12s and feel okay about them now. It is definitely a head adjustment. Also, this week I went for a bra fitting (sorry if TMI) and came out wearing a 36. 36??? I would never have even tried a 36 on if I had gone shopping for myself. Thank God for people who will measure us and help us. The woman who helped my with bras was so kind and helpful and non-judgmental with my loose skin. I only meant to buy one but she helped me find three, two at deep discount. Congrats again, I hope I didn't derail too much!

Various health and comfort issues just came crashing around me last summer / fall. I had to do SOMETHING and I have NEVER been able to stick to a diet, I was always miserable and hungry. I too was ashamed at the way I looked and could not participate in much of anything with anybody. I researched various WLS and was determined to NOT get a bypass or have a plastic gizmo (band) floating around in my gut. When I discovered the VSG I was ecstatic! So simple and virtually NONE of the "side effects" of a bypass or limitations and dangers of a band. I investigated my insurance options and did not want to wait and play the "games" they played so I ponied up the money and did self pay. A few emails, a few phone calls and a month later I was sleeved and on my way to a healthier me. Sorry for the TMI, this is just one of the BEST things I have EVER done for myself and I am so proud to have done it.

Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well TMI, but I hadn't gone potty in a few days. Maybe there was just a lot to come out. It was too nasty for words. -
Hi everyone, I'm finally back for an update! I had been in the typical stall for quite some time, so was hesitant to post too much and come across pessimistic. Here's a recap. Had my surgery January 9th in Mexico. BMI was 29, weighed in at 153.4 (only 5'1) on January 1st when I started my pre-op. I had an easy pre-op, basically just did Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then veggies and chicken for dinner. Three days before surgery was yogurt only diet, but I did add a Protein shake once a day just to keep my protein up and my carbs down. Day of surgery I weighed 148.4 lbs, which put my BMI at 28. I went down to Mexico on the day of surgery and spent a few days in San Diego afterwards. First time I weighed myself on my home scale I was 139.2 and that was on January 17th. Jan 18 - 137.2 Jan 19 - 137.0 Then my weight started to bounce around and stall out so I stopped weighing daily. Feb 1 - 137.6. I started working out Feb 1, scale was still moving super slow, so again just weighed every once in a while Feb 5 - 136.0 Feb 23 - 135.2 Then I went on vacation to California. Just got back last night and I weighed in this morning at .... 129.0!!!!!! That puts me at a BMI of 24.4, the high end of NORMAL WEIGHT. Why did I finally drop? I don't exactly know, but here's two things that probably helped. 1. I ate out a lot, and although I didn't eat lots at a time, my calories were definitely higher, so I think that actually helped boost my metabolism. 2. I got super sick the second last night, stuck in the bathroom (sorry if this is TMI - but basically all night pooping and puking --- although it was mostly dry heaving since there was no food in me). So I probably am down quite a bit of Water weight, and fully expect I may gain a couple pounds once I get hydrated again and eating somewhat normal. Anyways, I just wanted to post an update since it's been a while, and I feel like I may have finally broken this stall. I am less than 6 lbs above my lowest weight as an adult. Still 14 lbs above my goal weight, but that being said, I am looking forward to increasing my exercise and putting on muscle, so realize it may be difficult for the scale to drop steadily if I'm toning up. Hope everyone else is doing well! --I am going to copy and paste this post to a few of the other "low BMI" threads, so sorry for the repeat to those of you that follow those threads as well--

Alcohol during maintenance??
Prestonandme replied to xoto2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, and this may apply only to a very small percentage of patients, some of us have livers that become highly sensitive to alcohol intake post-surgery. During one weekend, I drank a lot of wine and got very concerned when I went to the bathroom and noticed that my poop was jet black and diarrhea in form (sorry if TMI). I was afraid that this indicated internal bleeding so immediately went to urgent care. They performed blood tests and found that my liver enzymes were very elevated, showing inflammation/injury to the liver. They told me to not drink alcohol at all for awhile and to return in a month. They re-tested and found to my relief that my enzyme results had returned to normal. So I severely restrict my alcohol intake -- only a lite beer maybe twice a week. Nothing else. -
Alcohol during maintenance??
Prestonandme replied to xoto2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't try alcohol until nearly a year post-surgery. Everything changed. Before surgery, I could drink wine or mixed drinks and develop a lovely mild buzz that would last for about an hour or two. After surgery, I had to give up wine and mixed drinks because of the new effects they had on me. I'd feel nothing for about 30-45 minutes after drinking, then suddenly feel extremely inebriated -- overwhelmed -- and the whooziness would last for several hours, plus sometimes I'd then get a bad headache. And diarrhea (TMI). These days I only drink one can of beer (Guinness Stout) at home. I wouldn't dare drink away from home because of the possibility of severe inebriation. A blood/alcohol card listing weight and BAC showed that hypothetically, a person of my weight would reach a BAC of .10 after drinking just one and one half glasses of wine! If and when you're ready to introduce alcohol back into your life, definitely drink at home first so you can find out how the alcohol now affects you. About a year ago, a woman posted that she drank alcohol at a party and felt completely fine driving home but during the drive she suddenly became overwhelmed by drunkenness and had to pull over and lie down in her seat. She got a DUI.
