  1. Today is the 7th day of my pre-op liquid diet. Maybe my thoughts may help others. First, I'm proud to say I did not cheat. I was tempted a few times when I was around prepared food such as at a meeting I attended. Fortunately the meal was at the end of the meeting so I made an excuse and went home. Also, I did not go to Lions Club which has a buffet meal during the meeting. I followed my Drs. guidelines religiously. Generally I would have a Protein shake with almond milk or skim milk for Breakfast, then a half cup of Greek yogurt for a mid morning snack, then a premier Protein Shake and another half cup of yogurt at lunch, then drink an Isopure in the afternoon, 32 oz of cold Water in the late afternoon and early evening, then broth for supper. Supper was what I looked forward to all day because it was hot-my hot meal for the day. I alternated among chicken, vegetable, beef broth and then a couple of times had canned tomato Soup with powdered protein added. I usually did not add protein to the broths. I kept track of my "meals and snacks" and ranged from a low of 83 gr. Protein to a high of 164 gr. For calories I ranged from a low of 445 to a high of 978. I tried to hit 60-80gr. Protein and 700-900 calories/ day. I highly recommend keeping track of everything so you can compare meals/days. It has worked for me. As everyone says, the first 2-3 days are the toughest then I sort of got used to it and fell into a routine. Finally, I am retired so it is much easier for me to control things-I know it would be much more difficult if I were still working. Feel free to ask questions. Good luck! December 12th it's our time

I'm not having trouble drinking at all. I do take small sips all day long, but haven't limited myself as to how much at one time. Since it's just liquid, I don't think it just sits in your little pouch. I'd think it would just go right through. I'm pretty much subsisting off of yogurt, protein drinks, crystal light and water. Congratulations on your 20 lbs! That's great! I've lost 10 since surgery. I had my check up today and the doctor thought that was pretty good.

    What To Eat?! Please Help!

I did a lot of: poached egg over refried beans pureed tuna salad pureed chicken salad pureed chicken with barbecue sauce hummus Greek yogurt nonfat cottage cheese with hot sauce or chipotle salad dressing stirred in for flavor pureed shrimp salad I didn't have any trouble tolerating any of that. Just kept the amounts very very small - no more than 3 tablespoons of food per meal.
  4. 7 weeks?!? Wow god bless you During purée I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken and pork and turkey in my cuisinart and added liquids to make it a little purée The pork I gotta say I added BBQ sauce just a little so I could get the taste.
  5. The painkillers, Tylenol #3, Tramadol, etc., are constipating. Dehydration will make you constipated, too. Milk of Magnesia and adding fiber helps. I have been using Fiber Smart, a clear fiber that is not wheat based, since I'm gluten intolerant. I also take probiotics and try to eat plain Chobani greek yogurt mixed with protein powder and add the fiber.
  6. I'm at 3 months, I can't eat chicken soup, tuna, yogurt, refried beans, tomatoes, cucumber, all of those things hurt a lot. I try a tamale took the meat off, because was spicy, did fine, try a baked fish stick, the frozen ones I think they are fry before getting frozen, I try an homemade meatloaf with turkey bacon, did fine??? What's up with that? I thought I wasn't going g to be able to eat stuff like that. I'm graving for a salad, and steamed veggies or grilled chicken or fish, I try steamed fish I tough I eat a knife. What should I do? Off course is a very small quantities. Like 3 small fish stick and that's eat for all day pretty much.

    Protein shakes

Syntrax nectar has a fuzzy navel flavor and a lot of other fruit flavors and coffee flavors. I'm not a coffee drinker, but the fruity ones were relatively decent tasting and not heavy like a shake. I mixed them with plain yogurt for a while rather than making a drink...not terrible. They are 25+ grams of protein no other calories, pretty much no vitamins. I also found packets of isopure unflavored at costco- again only calories are protein, pretty much vitamin free. Isopure mixes really well. I have used it in food and no one else notices, I do smell the protein powder smell though. Overall I have stopped using shakes for now as I am nauseated by the taste. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, chicken are some of my go tos.

    Day 6 and Starving

I agree with Jen. I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks with the exceptions of protein shakes, milk and lumpfree yogurt. He said that protein was imperative to proper healing.

    Question about pureed meat

Maude is right - I tend to add liquids (such as a Campbell's Select soup) or a little milk, or bouillon to get the right consistency. I have even added a little watered down unflavored yogurt from time to time - adds a little zip to the meat. Best of luck to you!
  10. Is that sugar free yogurt or just regular? No fruit yogurt? Thanks for the suggestions.
  11. I have used both RTD and Protein mixes and haven't had any issues with bathroom trips. Did you mix fruit or juice with the protein mix? I was thinking too much sugar causing the urgent trip to the loo! I either mix with yogurt, Water or skim milk. I occasionally has put an ounce or so of juice for flavor (orange juice) to plain yogurt.

    veg diet

Hi fellow veg! Weak and tired at this stage is normal. What food texture are you allowed to eat? Are you ovo-lacto? In my third week I was allowed mush. I had wet scrambled egg with cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, almond butter, vegan egg salad, veggie delites souffles.
  13. I'm afraid to start foods. I have had 0 problem with pudding broth yogurt etc. I'm deathly afraid of vomiting! I WILL try, but I'm scared. What is considered a "soft" cheese? Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. I definitely know full..it squeezes and hurts and comes with hiccups and belching sometimes...lol...but the yogurt today..maybe I just ate too fast

can you eat a whole cup of yogurt?

I was sleeved on 12/30 and I was able to eat at least 3/4ths of the yogurt cup. The thing is since it's so soft it goes right through. Imagine cutting yourself off at a cup of water. I guess everyone's different and it might even change
  16. I just ate a whole cup if Greek yogurt..and looked on the side and realized that's 5.3 oz! Can you guys eat a whole one?

    Doing the math

I am 5 days postop. ..I'm not getting near the 64 oz requirements yet...but I did buy several types an flavored protein to add to either my water yogurt, applesauce, soups...I'm at least putting in protein even though right now it's not at max yet...I still have awful spasms we're not sure if it's the stomach seeing it's still swollen an inflammation or from the hernia repair. ..so I'm doin wat I can for next several wks till the spasms stop. I'm luvin the varsity of protein powder products. ..do wat u can...
  18. RMAP has a pretty lenient diet protocol IMO, from what I've been reading on here. It's only half a day clear liquid before surgery (starting at 3pm) and by day 4 after they have you on stuff like light yogurt, cottage cheese, strained Soup, etc. By day 15 you can have soft moist foods. So yeah, it's gotta be the most "liberal" of the diets I've seen! (Including the 10 day preop diet. That's just a 1000 calorie diet with a Protein shake for Breakfast, lunch, and a Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice meal for dinner. So not bad at all!)

    Hi June Sleevers!

Hi @@chelleshocked ... it's 4 weeks post op for me and I'm also feeling good! I can't believe how much better -- and more "normal" -- I feel from week to week. eggs are awesome, and so is Greek yogurt! A few days ago I made Eggface's ham, cheese, and triple onion bites (aka crustless mini quiches), and they're fab! You can substitute ingredients easily if you aren't allowed to have meat yet. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2014/10/its-world-egg-day-8-eggceptional-recipes.html
  20. I hate to break this to you, but that's the post-op diet too. It's even more restrictive immediately postop and for many months after that. Protein, veggies, yogurt. That's about what I eat.
  21. I think I may have actually been slightly stuck. Last week when I went in for my last fill, my doc and staff got after me for still eating yogurt, which they consider to be a slider food. They said if you're not chewing it, then it can slide right through the band, despite the fact that the yogurt I eat is full of Protein. So this weekend I bought some Kashi Cereal that is loaded with Fiber and protein and started adding it to my yogurt. This morning I had my string cheese followed by the yogurt/cereal. I wasn't even finished eating when I could feel the pain. I thought it was my underwire bra, so went home and changed. It didn't really help. When I got back to the office, I went and got my Water (by this time an hour had passed) and drank a bit. Didn't really help but I didn't have any come back up (although I didn't drink more than maybe two ounces). So I call my doctor's office and asked if it were possible if I could be stuck. After talking back and forth, it was decided I could be slightly stuck and it should pass through, although it may take a couple of hours. She said to continue to sip water but to do liquids for a couple of days as I could have irritated it and have some swelling. It's almost an hour later now and I am feeling relief. I've been trying to stand up as much as I can and continue to drink my water. Bad thing though is that I have a business lunch today and I just called the restaurant to see if they have any Soup. They don't. However, because it is a Mexican restaurant (my brother in law's place), they do have green chili, so I'm thinking I might just get a bowl of that and eat the broth only. I've had my band now for almost 3.5 months and this is new to me. I've been very fortunate and haven't been stuck or PBd. I've slimed during a BM (that because I was almost sick). I have a feeling that it takes a while for my fills to kick in before I actually feel restriction. Weird.

    One Month Post Op

You go girl! Wow, your doc is even more conservative than mine- I got mushies at three weeks (Monday) but FOUR weeks of full liquids- wow! Do you get yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.? Do you add Protein powder to your soup, etc. Keep it up!
  24. You know, if you are eating more than usual, and were getting hungry sooner, you might have been ready for the fill. It may just be some residual swelling as you adjust to it. I would take it very easy, go onto some liquids, then just feel your way along slowly--your body might just take a few days to settle back down following the new fill. For me--I do feel like I am at my sweet spot---because I simply do not feel hunger. I can likely eat more than most bandsters because I am not very tight---I eat so much less than ever before, but more than some bandsters I know! Last night for dinner, I had a grilled hamburger on a bun, and I ate just about half of it, and about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, and about 3 Scoop size fritos. Tonight we are having pot roast, I will eat a piece of roast---say 1/2 a cup, 1/2 of a potato and several small carrots....with the gravy it cooked in. I am tighter in the morning, I eat usually part of a container of yogurt with granola in it. If we go out for fast food, I can eat a Taco, and some pintos and cheese at Taco Bell. I donot count calories, I try to eat healthier than the things I have mentioned here, I was just drawing on recent memory!!! I do try to make the biggest portions of my meal Protein and vegetables---less starchy foods. I am having a TT done soon, and will have to be unfilled, I am afraid!!! I have not felt hungry to have to fight that feeling in almost 2 years! Not sure how I will do to be honest. I am impressed that it was your first slime and PB after 5 months---you must be doing really well following the rules! Way to GO!!! I would just take it easy, the fill may settle in, and be fine, but if you continue to have problems I would ask for a teensy weensy unfill ---no sense in being miserable. Glad you are feeling better! Kat
  25. Not all doctors have the same post op diet. I was only ony clear liquids the day of surgery and then moved to full liquids the next day. I was allowed low fat yogurt on day 2. I didn't have any of those problems though. My advice would be make sure you get some protien in somehow and call the doctor as soon as you can to make sure everything is ok. I am newly banded, 1 week today, and I would call the doctor for any question that serious. Not being able to swallow is a big deal. I wouldn't leave the answer to that up to an online forum. Sorry, that's just my opinion.
