There could be any number of reasons for that. You'll have to give us some more information: Have you had any fills? What are you eating, and how much? Are you exercising? Do you have any underlying health issues that cause weight gain or that might make you resistant to weight loss? Are you on any medications that might cause it? And most importantly, have you talked with your surgeon about it?

Hey all, Not to sound nasty or TMI, but I have a serious question and wonder if you guys can help. I don't seem to be going to the bathroom enough... I'm not constipated per say, but it seems to me that it would be a lot healthier if I went more often. Before surgery, I didn't go to the bathroom terribly often.. maybe once a day or every other day... but now it's seemed to stretch out even more. I try to eat more Fiber, but I'm wondering if there are any supplements or anything else that would be recommended. I'm losing steadily, and I'm wondering if my digestive tract was functioning better if this would be a boost to my weight loss and over all health. Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated! :smile2:

Post Surgery Weight Loss Before Fill?
SusieSunshine posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone so happy to be a member of this community. I just had my consult yesterday and will be getting the band soon. I guess I'm wondering if you started losing weight before the 1st fill of your band. I'm guessing after surgery you are on liquids. I don't have all of the info yet. Just curious how soon I can expect to lose after the surgery? Just excited for the losing to begin. -
Longevity Studies: WLS versus not
Miss Mac replied to CowgirlJane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Here is my bariatric study: My brother died of a heart attack at age 47, when he weighed 420 pounds. My mother died at age 67 (just three years older than I am now) of an abdominal aortic aneurysm when she weigh 320 pounds at 5'2" tall. Her mother, who was not overweight died at the age of 98, and she would have lived longer if she had not broken her hip and gotten pneumonia. Other grandparents, aunts, and uncles who were not overweight lived well into their mid-eighties and early nineties. Many of my 60 first cousins have already died of overweight-related health issues in their late forties to early sixties. My older sister weighed about 300 pounds when she graduated high school in 1968 and gained another 100 pounds after that. She got a gastric bypass 15 years ago and is still doing well at age 67 (the age Mother died). I had the sleeve at age 62 because I just do not want to be done yet. I have grandchildren that I want to see grow up. One of my younger sisters who weighed close to 400 pounds got a band three years ago. She lost enough weight to get to a size 12, got a tummy tuck, breast lift and all that - and looks awesome! She is healthier and happier than she has ever been. So, my family is my example for life-span. I know I have greatly increased my odds for a longer life with good quality of life. -

Hello all, I am considering the lap band and for vanity reasons I'd like to ask if anyone can show me pictures of your port once you've reached your goal weight. I am a man wanting to get to a 24 BMI. at 5'11" tall that would be 175 pounds. I am not worried about scarring but rather the protrution of the port itself. I know everyone is different and the locations will vary but I would just like to see what we are talking about. Thanks in advance.

Hey Donna, I agree with Lapbandit in maybe a counselor would be helpful. It sounds like bulimic behavior to me and that is a vicious cycle compounded by what will happen to your band - throwing up all the time is just a waiting game for the band to slip because no matter how well it is stiched in - it probably can only take so much. I know you want to keep your band and I think you can do it without it being so tight. Thanks for posting - i am sure there are others just like you and it always helps to know you are not alone! Please hang in there and try to make just one tiny change a day - you CAN do this. And, I don't think weight obsession goes away either - we learn to cope and live with it for the rest of our lives - sometimes we need professional help to do it. Good luck. mary

Two weeks ago I had the right side of my thyroid removed. I had a nodule that was causing me to be hyperthyroid. Since the surgery I have gained 5 pounds!!! I am scared to death that the scale is going to continue its climb up. I'm watching my diet, protein first, lots of water....Has anyone else battled their thyroid? I am desperate for advice.

Hi! I am new to this site and wanted to quickly introduce myself. I live in Richmond, TX but work in Houston. My lap-band surgery is 5 weeks from today, yeah!! I am using Dr. Marvin. My starting weight is around 340 and I'd like to eventually get down to 150. I am about 5'9'' and am single. I don't have any children but I do have a pet Chihauhau named Bonita. She is the cutest! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was in high school and have been managing the symptoms with meds but can't loose weight on my own. I have recently started taking meds for my thyroid. I am anxious to start the lap band journey becuase I know it will dramatically change my life! I hope you hear from lots of you as we go through this journey together!

Hi All! Once you were cleared to exercise what work outs did you find helpful that had the most weight loss? I'm thinking about getting a personal trainer but not sure about the cost especially if it's something I can do. Any suggestions?

Pre-Op and gaining weight
Gaylebco replied to CowgirlJane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting sleeved on tuesday and from what i read and know it's an Adkins type diet we all follow after surgery. High in Protein, low in cards. If you need structure, follow the adtkins exactly for a while..the first phase is very strict and then it gets a bit more lienient as the stages progress. You can still have high quality foods, just limit them to whats on their list of foods. You can eliminate carbs slowly is you can't tolerate going all the way. Carbs are easily processed by the body so your metabolism doens't have to kick up when you eat them. If you eat a little protein every 3-4 hours, your body's metabolism has to kick up to process the protein. Making meals and Snacks with high protein will hellp with weight loss. Good luck with your journey! Gayle -
Whats "normal"?
tigerbelle replied to missyjoy2078's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if there is anything I've learned since joining this site, it's that everybody's weight loss pattern is different...sometimes I think the variance is partially because different doctors have different post-surgery diets...mine did not have any such requirements; therefore, I started surgery day at 0 lbs lost...others have gone on three month pre-ops and lost 50 lbs pre-surgery...then others have 2 week liquid diets pre-op and can lose 20 or 30 lbs before surgery...you and I are the same height but I weighed 268 on surgery date and am down about 20 lbs since then...so I am not even where you are at now...I would think that the less weight overall you have to lose, the less quickly it would come off...but that is just intuitive thinking on my part -
You need to do what's best for YOU and your health. You're the one that has to live with the weight not him or anyone else. It's an extremely hard decision, but when you have tried and tried sometimes you have to the surgery route. Maybe he's scared of you losing the weight and then leaving him. Hope you can decide what ou need to do. Which ever route you go on.

Still dieting after gastric bypass
sunshinetinks replied to thiklips's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Feel your pain. I am 4 months out and stalls happen often. Remember it's not a race. Everyone loses at differently. This is for the rest of your life. Just make your choices wisely. Rule of thumb, eat protein first, then vegetables/ salad and if there is still room a healthy carb. Going STRICT low carb is not good either. Believe me I did low carb under 20 carbs for 2 years. Difficult to sustain, because life happens. I ended up gaining back a 100 pounds and more! I don't eat white potatoes, white bread or pastas, but I do now eat low carb bread, nuts, and low carb fruit and nuts. Just don't do strict low carb , because when you deviate even just a little, your body gains very quickly. Wishing you well on this weight loss journey [emoji4] Sent from my Nexus 5 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Still dieting after gastric bypass
dreamingsmall replied to thiklips's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Lol . I'm 7 months out. Weight is pouring of and I'm not dieting. I don't track unless I need to just check I'm eating right amount every now and again. I eat the foods allowed on the plan and get on with my day. I don't feel I'm dieting what's so ever. I'm sorry you feel that way. It would suck for me too. Sent from my Vivo 5R using Tapatalk -
Iggy, how are things? I know that you are still around and posting, just wondering how the claw is holding and how are the stages of eating working out for you? Hope your little boy is happy to have his mommy home and that you are indeed looking forward to the holidays, decorating and being alive!! Hopefully you will give us an update, there are a few of us that really care and loved to banter with you! I haven't updated my ticker but I am 100 pounds down now in just over a year including pre-op weight loss. I feel so much better, and I am used to my sleeve now, it feels normal. I know my fullness cues and try not to cheat (much) but a small piece of dark chocky makes me swoon and a glass of red wine now and then helps me make it thru my busy days. I take care of my 9 year old grandson and life is deliciously good with my little guy around to make me laugh! Sending you good thoughts Iggychick!!

With any of these surgeries, I can tell you with absolute certainty that it is possible to regain the weight, if you haven't got your mind 100% made up and committed to change. The surgery isn't a magic bullet, it's a tool. Your mind is what you have to fix. If you get that part right, then you'll be able to succeed with ANY of the surgeries. In my opinion, the sleeve is awesome because of the impact it has on ghrelin production, which basically disrupts the traditional "hunger" signals. Much easier to focus on your goals if you aren't being driven crazy by hunger.

Ten Days to Next Weigh In
ChubRub replied to Machalo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did you eat over the weekend to cause the gain? Was it eating out/restaurant food? If so, my guess is that it's all water weight from the sodium in restaurant food. Just eating homemade food for 2 days should eliminate at least 4 of those pounds, if not more! -
I have Aetna and they reqiure three months of PCP monitored diet, psych eval, etc. Well, on Sat during my first visit to my PCP, she looked at me like I had two heads and told me that she doesn't get reimbursed for "weight loss visits". Then she said that she can't get reimbursed for the EKG they did because there was no reason to have one done (Pre-op is not a reason). After a lot of explaining, I convinced her to see me 2 more times (self pay) and she said that she would see me just to agree with whatever the nutritionist is saying. So for my other visits (abdominal ultrasound, bloodwork, chest x-ray, etc.) do I have to "fake symptoms" so they will cover it? I have an open access plan, so getting the PCP to make a referral isn't an obsticle (thank goodness because she's doing minimal work on this). I need to know if Aetna will pay for my other visits to specialists.

I'm in NYC and it is still snowing. I too like certain things on snow days: Double stuff Oreos. Last week I did not resist and bought and ate them all. This time No way. I made pizza with my 8 year old niece. Small whole wheat wraps, pizza quick sauce and reduced fat Mozzarella with turkey pepperoni. We made three and 'surprised' her mom with it. It was really good. Niece said we should do this every time it snows. So Now we have a new tradition. I think the shoveling has kept me from gaining. LOL

getting worried... anyone to talk with?
Lovelycurves replied to Lovelycurves's topic in Insurance & Financing
Well after my psych eval in march is when my doc will submit to my insurance. And yes waiting is the hard part, but I'm going to stay positive because I have been doing what I'm supposed to. I decided to switch to the DS firstly because my doc brought it up, and I didn't know insurance would cover it till I talked to him so I didn't do my research to begin with, and then decided to do my research and there's a lot to the DS that I feel would be a bit better for me. Such as keeping the valve unlike in the RNY also because with RNY you only lose about 60% of excess body weight and with the DS you actually lose about 85% excess body weight, and with the RNY people usually gain some weight back, and with the DS weight gain is almost never seen. So that's definitely a plus for me. because if I'm going to get surgery and do everything right I don't want to stable out with some weight gain from my lowest weight which usually happens with RNY paitients (not all but some) so I've done a lot of research and I feel the DS is for me. There are some things though that are negative such as body odor is stronger but fixes itself within the first 6 months and having to take in MORE protein and vitamins but that's ok for me. He said the DS isn't for everyone but I do believe its for me. And I've done A LOT of research on it. -
Hello everyone, Sorry, but I really need to vent. I was banded on December 14th 2005. I had lost a total of 15 pounds. But today when I weighed myself, I was up top 304 again!?!?!?! I am soooo upset. I really don't feel any restriction so I find myself just eating and eating. But I am only eating mushies still. I have been sick for a few days so I haven't been able to work out, but I just don't understand. Even though I am eating, I am staying under 1200 calories every day. When I called my doctor today to schedule for a fill, they told me I HAVE to attend a LAP band class before they will do it. I was so mad because the next class is February 6th. So I basically feel like I am gonna be wasting another month and possibly gain all me weight back. Well thanks for listening everyone.

Restriction Question
justinsmami91 replied to justinsmami91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really have any secret...way back when I started this whole process I was weighing 316...down to 248 now...day of surgery 290...so like 42 pounds...watching what I eat and going to the gym...back when I was heavier...didn't even want to leave my room...now less weight...doing more stuff (activities)...i thought my weight loss was going slow...i guess not...was going to the gym twice a day...now back down to once a day...in the morning before work...twice a day got to be too much for me...i was pushing myself too much...walk at work a lot so I guess you just gotta stay active...what is the normal weight loss? never thought about it. -
Hello eveyone, I had my first fill and I must say after looking at everyone's weight loss , I'm not doing to well I've lost 11lbs total. I have started the gym last week I went 3 days and worked out for 30-45 mins so hopefully this will help. And also I have a concern about mt restricion after being fill the Doc said he put 6ccs....but I think it had to been more like .6 right? I still feel pretty hungry but when I do eat I feel like something is getting stuck in my back, kinda like if you eat to fast and feel like something is stuck in your esphogas is that call restriction? I mean I don't feel full just something weird also I think I've been PBing cause when I feel that feeling alot of saliva comes up.....any advice would be great __________________
