    What's the average rate of loss

    Exactly everything @catwoman7 said. There is no right or wrong rate at which to lose your weight just what is right for you & your body. The stats only give you an idea of what you might experience. As with all stats there are always outliers: those who lose more & those who less less. Your rate of loss doesn’t affect whether you’ll lose your weight either. Just may mean it takes a little longer or a little more quickly. By the way 15lbs in 3 weeks is not slow. That’s averaging 5lbs a week. Can’t be unhappy about that. I’d lost about 13lbs at the three week mark & my surgeon & dietician were always happy with my rate.

    Thanks for explaining. I’ll try not to take ibu. Hopefully it gets better in the next 2 weeks. I bought a compression tank and it seems to minimize the pain when walking or getting up.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

    My surgery is scheduled for June 5th. I started the liquid diet yesterday, today was the second day, and it has been difficult. The hospital is asking for two weeks liquid diet and I started earlier because I want to make sure that by next week when I meet with the team I can ask all questions regarding my blood sugar levels through this diet. I have diabetes and my glucose levels are going all over the place, some high numbers that I did not see before (197 first thing this morning). I think it has to do with the orange juice and Liquid IV drinks that both have huge amount of sugar. I am meeting with the preop team in 3 days and I will ask if indeed it is ok to have diabetics drink those high sugar drinks. I managed to bring the glucose levels lower by drinking broth. The document I received from them asked not to contact the doctor unless the glucose is lower than 70 or higher than 270 so I assume this variation is acceptable in their view. Certainly not ok from my point of view but I am looking forward to get the surgery and reverse the diabetes.

  5. I broke a chair in a bar by sitting on it. Simple as that. The bar owner reassured me that he'd got new chairs given to him by a brewery and they were rubbish because 2 others had collapsed that week but I decided then and there that I needed to get in control of my weight, having been on a diet for about 30 years by then. Never looked back.

    What's the average rate of loss

    according to this table, I was definitely a slow loser (because I'd lost 28 lbs by the end of month 2, so I probably hadn't reached 25 lbs at the six week mark (I was in the 300-400 lb group)). But I stuck to it and almost never went off my plan, and I ended up in the normal BMI range almost two years later, having lost over 200 lbs. So again, your level is commitment is by far the biggest factor in your ultimate success rate.

    Puking my guts out today :(

    It depends with me, if I am at home I will wait it out. It once lasted 6 hours. Sometimes it passes and other times it doesn't. If it happens when I am out then I will make myself vomit. I can do it quietly, then I can join in the fun again with my family or friends. My worst time was after some mussels that were too greasy. Can not face them again yet. Just this week I was lounging on my holiday sunbed after lunch and I was a little uncomfortable, I burped and projectile vomited a strawberry milkshake, not nice. Obviously too sugary for me. I am still learning what does and doesn't start me off. It would help if it was the same foods every time but one day it's ok for say chicken then not the day after. I am not able to drink when I have it and if it lasts a while then I get very thirsty. I think you will sort it out in a way that's best for you to shift it.     Hi! What’s the process?

    Thank you, everyone! I’ve done my upper GI series which went swimmingly. I completed my at-home sleep study and was subsequently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I’ll be fitted for my CPAP mask next week. I completed my first of six nutrition classes, which was quite puzzling because it was like a common sense class - Nothing more advanced than kindergarten-level nutrition facts (choose fruits and veggies, not chips and cookies). I can’t believe I have to wait at least five more months for that. I’m hoping it becomes a lot more specific to bariatric surgery, then it would make sense! I asked the surgeon’s office when they estimate I’d be up for surgery and they think November or December. I requested an earlier first visit with the surgeon, so I’ll be seeing him on 6/6. Very excited to discuss things and ask questions and hopefully get an even better estimated timeframe. I’m impatient, can you tell? Lol! Thanks again folks I really appreciate you all.

We went over goal weight and she said to aim to be at a BMI below 30 which is somewhere I want to be. Originally my goal was 180 then I changed it to 160 to see how far I will go. Off to vacation next week, hoping I can come back and be surprised with being at least 199.9 lol

    May 2023 surgeries

    I'm ten days out from VSG with a esophageal hernia repair. I did need to take Tylenol for pain for seven days, and I'm happy to be pain free now. Luckily, I was able to take 50oz of fluid from the beginning - and I am now up to 75+oz. Honestly, I was more worried about that than food restriction, because I have always loved drinking water. All of the sweet protein shakes and waters have put me off sweet tastes and I have been experimenting. I've been adding GenePro unflavored protein powder to everything (there is one with 22 grams of Protein for a small scoop). I'm in the pureed stage with meat now (I know - but my University's lead surgeon allows on his diet plan) and I have enjoyed cream of malanga soup with one very soft scrambled egg and today I made a kind of blended chicken tzatziki soup with cucumber, cottage cheese, chicken and dill, plus a little water. I'm so happy! 4oz had 21gr of protein. I also love spices, but I'm taking it slow. I have a couple of finishing salts with truffle or lemon/fennel. Just the lightest sprinkle makes a big difference to my tastebuds. And FlavorGod's Gingerbread cookie topper mini-sprinkles gives a zing to all the protein yogurt I've been eating. I hope this helps some people looking for ideas to get away from the sweet tastes. I've also switch off premade protein shakes and back to Iconic brand protein powders. They taste be mild and not sweet, so once you get to the 8oz of liquids I recommend it. I have been getting out to do errands before I go back to work next week, however I haven't really started walking with exercise in mind. It's time to start today. I'm nine pounds down and very happy I made the decision for WLS. 59 since starting this journey with the Bariatric Center in November. I'm a foodie, and I was worried about not being able to enjoy foods in the future and I'm incredibly happy I am on the way to good health. On that note, I was taken off a blood pressure med and a statin by my GP yesterday. THAT was a win! For any of you who are having more challenges after your surgery. Hang in there! My heart is with you because I know that could be any of us.
  14. My rny was May 1st, and I've lost 15lbs since surgery (30 since the start of pre-op diet). I just feel like 15 lbs is low. It's an average of less than a pound a day. I've already stalled once at about 2 weeks out. I'm just looking for some guidance. Thanks.

    May 2023 surgeries

    I had the VSG with hiatal and ventrical hernia repairs on May 4th. The only issues I encountered was a lot of discomfort wearing a bra (caused a pressure rather than pain) and feeling very full after only 3-4 oz of liquid. The feeling full issue passed within a few days of walking 15 minutes every half hour/hour. Two weeks later I'm on pureed foods now and the full feeling is back; I can barely get 2oz of food at times. Walking has helped, as well as making sure not to drink anything 30 minutes before and after eating. I will say this. Get some throat drops to help with the sore throat because your throat may be even more sore after surgery, from the breathing tube. Good luck!

    Congrats! Getting all the fluids in the 1st couple of weeks is hard! Just take little sips every 15 minutes. I have reminders set up through the Baritastic app.

    It's done! I made it through surgery day and boy what a time it was.... 6 incisions and plenty meds. Gas in the back pain. Nausea. and more tenderness Struggling to get 64oz of fluid in but I think my game plan is to segment the day in 3-4 parts. I've already noticed I definitely have to force myself to walk and sip
  18. Sure, Carla. Per day, it is: * 2 litres (3.5 pints) of semi-skimmed mild spread throughout the day. If lactose intolerant or you have loose stools, cramping or bloating, switch to lactose-free semi-skimmed milk from the fresh milk counter. Soy milk can also be used but standard and unsweetened. Other plant based milks are not suitable as they contain little or no protein. * At least 1 litre (2 pints) of other calorie and caffeine free fluids to keep you hydrated (tea, herbal tea). Water is unlimited. No fizzy drinks, energy drinks, high caffeine drinks or cola's. You can have sugar free squashes or cordials but it must be labelled sugar-free or no added sugar; therefore, it should not contain free sugar, sucrose, sorbitol, fructose or fruit juice. * One salty drink to maintain sodium levels such as a mug of hot water with a stock cube or Bovril according tot he instructions. Alternatively, yo can have a 4g teaspoon of yeast extract (i.e. marmite). * One multivitamin and mineral tablet containing 100% of all A-Z vitamins and minerals as this is NOIT a balanced diet for the long term. * Allowed extras are one sachet of sugar free jelly and 3 sticks of sugar free gum per day - these are not needed but may be a welcome change * NO FOOD I hope i have typed this correctly 😊

It seems to me whether it's the bypass or the sleeve everyone has a different regiment for the two weeks prior to surgery mine's just consist of two meal replacements 3 to 4 oz of a protein and two string cheeses in the host of liquids the first week and then the second week is all liquids
  20. @Blessd1 I looked through all the recipes and some look amazing, some not so much but we are all different. They’ve given me lots of ideas though so thank you so much for this. I can’t find the strawberry vinaigrette however, do you have the specific link for the homemade recipe please? I’d love to try it along with the cherry one too! riccotta I adore so I now searching on homemade meals. im struggling with meat even ground chicken and beef at the moment so it may mean I’m now vegetarian. I just need to learn a new lifestyle but will wait until the camera down my throat reports. I met with my surgeon and he’s suggested charcoal to help with the flatulence. Double up on PPI in the meantime and advised I shouldn’t hesitate to take upto 3 cyclizine a day for nausea. Keeping the little bit of food I manage to get down in me is priority. Only problem is the anti-vomit meds make me zonk! I’ve lost 5 stones in 13 weeks (which is 70lbs) or 32kg. He didn’t seem concerned about this and seemed to act like it was expected or normal even but it does concern me at how fast the weight is dropping off me. I have another 5 stones to lose at most to hit a BMI of 25 so in less than 3 months I’ve lost 50% of my excess weight. Yes it’s good I’m losing weight BUT the well-being is more of a priority for me and it’s zero at the moment. I’m tall at 5 ft 9 inches too. When I’ve read weight loss averages on MGB patients, the average weight loss is 60% of their excess weight in 2 years! This comparison is why I’m concerned. I don’t personally think I’ll suit being a size 10! I’ve never been a size 10 UK clothes size and the excess loose skin potential comes with its own set of problems too. But I’ll worry about this and deal with it if it arises. so now I’ll wait for the camera investigation and keep taking it day by day. speak really soon chelle x
  21. I’d always bounced between being a healthy weight & being on the top end of overweight. Then I became perimenopausal, then menopause & I became obese I swear overnight. Couldn’t lose more than a couple of kilos which would come back even more quickly. I battled for a good 4 years. A friend who’d lost a lot of weight told us she’d had the surgery and about three months later I woke one morning & decided enough. Got an appointment with my GP who gave me a referral to a surgeon (the one my friend saw). It was about 5 weeks between the morning I made my decision & my surgery. So very glad I did. I didn’t have any comorbidities though I knew if I continued at that weight I soon would. I was fed up with my large body because it wasn’t who I really was. My energy was compromised & I felt I couldn’t play with my younger nieces & nephews as I wanted. Looking back I realise I also used to work harder & do more at work or home to prove my weight wasn’t limiting me. Another factor was I love fashion, clothing designs & fabrics & my choice was being restricted by my size (about a US14). To me the difference between the surgery & medications is you’ll always have the changes to your digestive system but medications are a temporary artificial change. Of course in the end both depend on your willingness to make permanent changes to how you eat, what you eat & why you eat. If you go back to eating how & what you did before you will regain weight regardless of the surgery (you can eat around your surgery if your determined to) or medications. All the best.

  23. I'm here! I'm 18 weeks post op down 66 lbs & feeling great! My labs in April were amazing & I'm off my BP meds, cholesterol meds and I'm no longer considered fully diabetic.

    May 2023 surgeries

    7 days Post Op now. Sadi-s Wow this has been so hard!! My entire entertainment selection has consisted of people eating those unhealthy foods that we shouldn’t be having for a long while. My head hunger is insane. Erik the electric videos, Instagram, Facebook, everywhere is just delicious food videos. It’s been really hard. I’ve really struggled getting through the liquids stage. I’m not sure how to keep going. I ordered a soup from a local bakery today because I’ve been struggling eating. I know I haven’t been getting near enough. Loaded baked potato soup that I put in the blender. It was amazing. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m allowed to eat or not but I went slow and let my tummy talk for me. Can’t wait to be out of this liquids stage. Feeding my whole family delicious food like Alfredo and Grilled Cheese and Pesto and every other thing that they are eating has been so hard. I know other people are struggling but it’s been pretty bad for me. Been extremely light headed and dizzy today and decided I really needed to focus liquids and getting more food. Hopefully things stable out. My two go-to’s are Vanilla Pudding (Sugar Free) Life saver, Cream of Chicken Soup, and I just had my first bit of Greek Yogurt and honestly I am grateful I did. I didn’t realize how well my stomach would take to the yogurt. I’m about 32 oz of water today and it’s 5 PM which is a lot better than every other day. I know I’m dehydrated so I really need to get it under control but I’m doing my best! I know this is all a jumbled mess of updates, but again lightheaded and foggy minded lol. The reason I took the time to post this is because wanted to check in and see if anybody else is struggling like this? Or am I an outlier minority? Goodluck everyone. I think once I can have a string cheese next week, refried beans and scrambled eggs, everything will be better I hope. That’s all for now…. >:(

    Holy cow! I’m a week out from my RNY and still can’t put that much liquid in my pouch. Doing well otherwise except just tired and a bit weak. Meeting all my protein and fluid goals so far. Good luck to ya!!
