  1. My time is pretty much up, my date is on 10/5 and I am getting so anxious/nervous! I've never had surgery before, so that is also adding to my anxiety. I trust my surgeon, but the preoperative anxiety is so real. One minute, I feel ready. The next, and I'm like "what are you doing?!" I know what I'm feeling is normal, but I'm naturally a worry wart and so nervous but I'll be the case with complications and/or regretting my decision. The unknown is the worst.
  2. Meh, almost 10 PM here. I wanted to go to bed an hour ago, lol.

    Anyone sleeve to bypass?

Me! I only lost about 30 lbs with sleeve and gained half of it back due to maladaptive eating to avoid the symptoms of severe GERD. I just had revision to bypass on the 18th and am down 20 lbs from the start of my liquid diet 10 days prior to surgery. My doc said he expects me to lose about 60-65% of my excess weight, so a little less than I’d bypass was my first surgery.
  4. Hi guys. I am 2 years post op. Lost 20 kgs with the sleeve surgery and now i gained back 10! How can i get back on track?? Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Thankful Thread for 9/28 - 10/4

I am so excited that today I weighed less than my husband for the first time in our 11 year relationship! He was about 20 pounds lighter when we met, and I was 5-10 pounds lighter than my current weight. He is also about 6 inches taller than me 🤦🏼‍♀️ I am thankful for the ability to log over 7 hours of exercise, according to my Apple Watch, last week. I could never have done that 3 months ago. I am thankful for my neighbors. My next door neighbor hosted a neighborhood party last night and it just reaffirmed what an amazing neighborhood I get to live in. I am also thankful for all the support and ideas provided from everyone on this site.

    Thankful Thread for 9/28 - 10/4

Hey there! Coming back with a new Thankful Thread for this week after taking last week off. What are the things you are thankful for this week? I am thankful for so many kind, compassionate, and uplifting voices on this site and the knowledge that they possess and share. I'm thankful for finding some amazing 1-Carb low-cal tortillas and being able to share them with others here. I think I am going to pick up a rotisserie chicken from the store tonight and a jar of enchilada sauce just so I can keep using them. I'm thankful that I'll be taking a small vacation next week and visiting one of my favorite places again. There's some stress about COVID, but I've got a game plan to keep the risk to myself minimal. I'm thankful that I have lost enough weight that I can go hike in the woods for 2 hours and not feel completely sore and exhausted afterwards. How about you?
  8. Hi all! Is there anyone here who got a revision from sleeve to bypass and lost more weight? If you did, did you gain wait after sleeve? My HW 280, Lowest sleeve weight was (2013)171, (2017)180 after 5 years, (2019) 190 on my wedding day and now w GERD and quarantine I’m 230 I get my surgery date this week for bypass. Are there any success stories of going back down to your lowest sleeve weight? I’m excited to no longer have to take omperozole but do want to lose and get back down to 170. Please let me know, looking for someone who achieved that lol
  9. Your skin is like an elastic band. It can stretch & contract until it gets to a point it can’t contract any more. How much you weighed before surgery. How long you weighed that much. How much weight you want to lose. How old you are all affect your skin’s elasticity & how much lose skin you will end up with. I was feeling a bit cocky about how little loose skin I had but once I started losing the last 10 kgs & surpassed my goal, it all started to droop. I don’t have a lot compared to others & I’m not contemplating surgery. But you won’t see me waving my arms about or wearing shorty shorts. My little tummy pooch doesn’t show in form fitting clothes. One old hair band used a lot. One new band hardly used. 😁

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

In Aust the min bmi seems to 35. Some surgeons will operate on patients with a slightly lower bmi but they must have severe health complications (high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, etc.). It‘s not common for people to lose so much weight after surgery they attain a bmi in the low end of the healthy range or lower & stay there. Those that do drop to a bmi of 18 or 19 more often or not gain some again after because it’s difficult to maintain long term. Life kicks in, your hunger increases & metabolism slows again. The average weight loss after surgery is about 65% of the weight you need to lose to put you in the upper end of the healthy range after 5yrs. There are a couple of people on this forum who struggle to maintain & have a low bmi. I’m sort of one of those people. If I miss a meal or a snack I can drop weight. Do it a couple of times in a week & the drop sticks. Consequently, I’m very routine in my diet of when & what I eat - sometimes I feel like I eat all day which is challenging when I’m often not hungry. (Honestly, my GP & surgeon would like me to put on a couple of kilograms but I’ve dropped a kilo in the last 2 - 3 months so I’m a bit nervous to go back next month.) What is your goal weight? As with all things in life if you put in the hard work & are committed to your plan (very careful with your diet & very active) you can attain your goals & maintain it. However balance is key. You have to be able to live the life you want at a weight you are happy with. I hope I don’t sound negative. Your concern is legitimate. I suggest you speak with your surgeon & nutritionalist about your worries. Good luck.

    Preop weight loss-too much?

I asked this question of the Patient Coordinator and was told that the insurance goes by the weight of my first Surgeon appointment. Of course you may have different requirements... Your Patient Coordinator may be able to advise you. I believe my 'packet' will be submitted to my insurance (Aetna) next week. To be certain, I ensured that I didn't go below at any point in the process. Started the process in Nov '19. Best of luck to you!!

When did you get back to exercise?

it took me about 1.5 months before I had the energy to really start working out and another half of a month to get back to it. I walked here and there in the first couple months, but my energy levels were way low and it was exceptionally hot out and it really wore me out. it's tough to get the energy when you aren't really eating much in those first few weeks. Now I am a little over 3 months post-op and I work out everyday for about an hour and make it a priority. I do 3 days of 30-minute full-body strength routines and aim for 250-300 minutes of cardio a week, usually hiking (2 hours a week but I am trying to do more) and walking (usually 2.5-3+ miles at a time with hills). I also add in random 10-min barre/toning workouts a few days a week when I have the time.
  13. Is it normal not to feel full? Does that come once solid food starts? Right now I am on protein shakes and Greek yogurt. I’m down 10 pounds so far.

    OOTD

Not an especially amazing outfit, but...I haven’t been able to wear the t-shirt in over 10 years. I have a stack of t-shirts from the last time I was at this weight. For some reason, I just couldn’t get rid of them. 😬 The only thing keeping the jeans from the floor is a belt, though😂 In the background, you can see one of three packed contractors garbage bags filled with clothes that are too big! Yay!

    Does hunger come back?

I’m glad I read this because I wasn’t told the hunger glands came back! I was set back 2 weeks because I’m deathly allergic to cats & my eyes & throat almost completely swelled shut so I didn’t exercise for 1st 2 1/2 weeks. I only lost 19 lbs including pre op shakes but I started walking and swimming yesterday. I hope I make it past honeymoon stage because my surgeon said I should have lost minimum 35 pounds in 4 1/2 weeks. I’m still having trouble with water & shakes bc until the abandoned cat hiding in house was removed, I was pretty out of it. So I’m really just starting. So the lack of hunger only lasts 2 months? Ugh . I’m just glad I finally had the sleeve surgery so I have it in my head to really start serious again. It’s weird I didn’t lose laying in bed not taking much in because swollen throat. Second that Persian cat was removed to neighbors I was better fast. Thanks for everyone’s questions and advice on here.

    Ricotta Bake

I got a set of these to make individual ricotta bakes. 10 oz Ramekins I know 10 oz is waaaay to big. I fill them about half full so they won't overflow and make a mess when they are baked. You make one batch and split it up. Bake them all at once or one at a time. You can freeze them and then thaw and bake as well. 6 oz Creme Brulee Ramekin Just some ideas
  19. I am 10 years out. 325 at my heaviest I was 54 years old and 5’3”. I lost to 302 at surgery. Lost 140 pounds . Over the next 8 years I gained back 40 pounds- But just over a year ago got myself back together and at 64 years old and now 5’2” - I have lost 45 pounds in 14 months. I am happy and comfortable. Healthy - working full time - gardening and active.
  20. I am 10 years out. Still have restriction - I don't count calories, sorry. I eat either 2 medium steamed eggs for breakfast or oatmeal (lower sugar packet) with a handful of raisins or other dried fruit or fresh fruit.( I can rarely finish that) I need a mid morning snack most days - small serving of fruit and cheese or a yogurt or something similar. I drink a few cups of coffee before and after breakfast, and snack.... strong coffee with whole milk. Lunch is usually a salad I make from home or a wrap using a lo carb wrap (60 calorie one) with chicken or tuna or chopped steak... homegrown fresh veggies (tomato, cucumber, radish, shredded carrots.. whatever) and either 1/2 sm avocado or some salad dressing in and on it. Or in cooler months a bowl of hearty soup. I may have another snack in the afternoon or not.... this ends up usually being the rest of my lunch that I didn't finish. Dinner is fish/chicken/beef or some kind of veggie dish with shredded cheese or something. After dinner I have a treat. A cookie or a single serving of ice cream or sometihing like that. I do't eat a lot at a time. And I drink water during the day. I Watch carbs and highly processed foods - and I stay away from frozen meals that have a ton of processed stuff and too much sodium. I know that didn't help much.... I can't deal with counting calories. I can never figure out how many calories are in a handful of this or a few of that....

    Favorite Grocery Products

Okay, so I ended up eating three of my newly arrived tortillas. Given their small size, they really aren't usable for wraps, so my chicken salad wrap became chicken salad "tacos". I heated each tortilla up, as per the maker's recommendation since they are pretty fragile without being heated up. They have a perfect tortilla texture! I wondered if maybe they'd end up being a little rubbery, but not at all. They are multigrain, so they do have that multigrain taste to them, if not a LITTLE bland in flavor, though really, the flavor comes from what you're putting in the tortilla, so that wasn't a deal breaker by any stretch. So these get an enthusiastic thumbs up from me for a low carb, low calorie tortilla and I can't wait to make more use of them! https://mrtortilla.com/ They also have low-carb and regular tortilla offerings in a number of varieties AND they apparently donate 10% of all of their profits to charity and 10% to employee profit-sharing. They seem like a really great company to support!
  22. Thank you very much for posting this info! I found COVID definitely had a major impact on my weight loss program. I was supposed to attend 10 education classes. Only got to do 2 of them before the classes were canceled for the foreseeable future. Fortunately, being in the revision boat, I still had a lot of the knowledge from the first go-round. And my dietician visit was a 20 minute phone call where I pretty much just confirmed I was still on the original diet plan they dictated for me and that it was working as I was losing weight every week. So no changes were really needed. There's been a lot of other COVID related changes to my post-op plan that I'm finding annoying, but ultimately it is what it is and I'm making the best of it.
  23. I was hoping someone else would mention it, but I don’t think anyone has yet. I am actually concerned about you having a cough AND diarrhea. This could be a virus of some sort or something more serious. If it persists, it is definitely worth a call to your surgeon. There are many different things that can cause the symptoms you are having, and it is best to get medical advice from your medical provider as they are more qualified than us (😊) and they know your medical history. Enjoy the lack of appetite! Mine never went away, although I am satisfied so much quicker than before. For pills, definitely space them out to get them in. It used to take me 30 minutes to take my morning meds. Now, at almost 3 months out, I take them in 5-10 minutes. For comparison, I take 8 pills in the morning, including vitamins. Check with your surgeon or primary care provider in case certain meds are better at a particular time or should not be taken with something else.

19 months out and I sill have loose stools, 5-8 per day. Sill a lot of gas, too. They are getting darker in color but still float, so I know fat malabsorption is still an issue.
