How much is your final fill total?
kll724 replied to kurby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Actually, had 5.5 cc's. Surgeon removed .2 at my request in June. Met goal (surgery was 10/30/09) August 11. He removed 1.3cc's at my request for maintenance. So, have about 3.5,now, 10 months out. -
How much is your final fill total?
Manda87 replied to kurby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have no idea how much is in my band. All I know is that I have the standard 10 cc band. How much in your band doesn't matter. Let your surgeon worry about that. -
I too started slow. Slow pace on the tread mil I think my first time was maybe 10 minutes. then I increased speed and time just by a little. I am doing the same thing now on the elliptical. But if I miss a day I feel bad about it. But If you like video games play Dance Dance Revolution Dancing...take a dance class Go to the mall and windo shop Fly a kite. ride a bike so swimming Just go do something. Heck some of my friends are going to go roller skating.

December will be 3 years for me... why am I suddenly so dang hungry?
Chelenka replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Thanks to all who have expressed such loving concern for my Mom and me. Wanted to post an update here. My Mom has been responding well to the Chemo so far. She has had 4 treatments and after the 6th they will do a scan to see if it is having the desired affect. I am very relieved and thankful that her suffering has been alleviated and she has been able to return to some of her previous activities although not everything. I have been taking a lot of yoga classes which feels like a life saver to me at this time. I need to get some aerobic exercise too and I like to walk or bike outdoors but the weather has been too cold for me these past two weeks. Guess I'm gettin old! LOL! I belong to a Planet Fitness but I don't like it there. It's a tallness issue. I like to use the elliptical machine but the ones they have aren't comfortable for me. I like to hold onto the part of the handlebar that monitors your heart rate occasionally as I have a target heart rate I'm going for. I have to lean forward on their machines to grasp the handle bars and it bothers my back. Seems like a small issue for such a cheap gym membership ($10 a month) but the reality is, if I don't like it I won't use it. I have managed to drop a couple of lbs but it's going very slow. That's OK as long as it goes! Hope everyone is doing OK. Hugs to all! -
I don't think, based on what you say, you should feel guilty. If you're keeping on track 80-90% of the time, enjoy yourself the rest of the time. Remember, it's not just about the immediate weight loss goals -- but long-term lifestyle changes! You're sticking to your new lifestyle and everyone is allowed to indulge a little. Think of it as a bank account -- you're paying in 90% of the time with exercise/healthy eating so that you can afford to enjoy that 10% of freedom.

You will get hungry
S@ssen@ch replied to FancyChristine15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my experience, the "hunger" we're talking about isn't "constant, gnawing" by any means. While I do get a bit of "head hunger" where I want to eat but I don't really NEED to eat, it's very manageable and it seems directly related to whether or not I've gotten a little carried away with carbs/sugar. I also get what I would consider normal hunger. I eat. I feel satisfied. After a few hours, I'm hungry again because I haven't eaten. And the cycle starts again. I have no constant hunger that I cannot satisfy. Heck, I eat with my family and when I'm full, I'm full. I'm not sitting there suffering because I can't eat the food in front of me. I have no desire to eat it. #1-I know that if I do, I will not feel well for long after that bite passed my lips and #2-I'm full, satisfied, and no longer hungry. I do not graze all day. I eat breakfast around 7 or 8. I have a protein-based snack around 10 or 1030. I eat lunch around 1. I eat dinner around 6. If I really feel hungry between lunch and dinner, I might have a little snack like nuts or fruit, but not always. And I try to never eat after 7. I'm not quite sure where you're going with the "if your body insists it needs 2000+ calories" comment. Our bodies get used to a certain caloric intake and when you change that, the body reacts. But, I don't think it has much to do with true hunger, maybe head hunger. Maybe you envision it feeling like you're starving? I can honestly say that I have never had that "starving" feeling since being sleeved (even when I've gone hours and hours, having forgotten to eat). And yes, you CAN be satisfied on a small meal. Early on, your meals probably are about 5 bites, but those 5 bites filled me up. I eat more than 5 bites now. I'm up to about a 3/4 of a cup and I'm absolutely satisfied with that and not just for 15 minutes. I feel full for at least an hour on that 3/4 cup and satisfied for hours, satisfied meaning that I'm not hungry and I'm not obsessing on my next meal/finding snacks/etc. I think that the implication that you will not be hungry after this surgery is an exaggeration and is highly individual. I can honestly say that I had no hunger for the first 3 months. During this healing time, I ate because I knew I had to introduce nutrition and/or hydration into my body. Then, I noticed that I was starting to get hungry late afternoon, hours after lunch, but before my dinner. But let me repeat, it is NOT the same hunger that I had prior to surgery where it was very easy to go on a binge and get out of control. -

Having problems getting all required protein
Crishell posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 1/19. I am finding it hard to get in 80g of protein per day. Anyone else experiencing this? I try to eat protein food items first but I am not hungry and hate to make myself eat just to get in the protein. (Never thought I would see the day where I would have to make myself eat ). I am scared my hair may start falling out due to protein deficiency. At any rate, I feel as if I am going to have to start getting up in the middle of the night and eat. Seems like my day is scheduled around eating and drinking. Does anyone know of any very high protein food items out there besides fish? I cannot stand the taste of that protein powder stuff:help: -
Suboxone before sleeve?
Jean9 replied to HopefulonLI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're on suboxone for opioids like heroin I would definitely talk to your doctor! Stopping it cold Turkey IS NOT AN OPTION! You are on that for a reason and you might go back to using...which I hope wouldnt be the case if you just stop it! I am highly aware of opioids. I lost my brother almost 10 years ago and I do education speaking to schools about the dangers of heroin and opioids. I wish you all the best. Message me and I can get you in touch with someone who might be able to help you with questions and even getting off of suboxone! Jeannine [emoji8] -
From the album: Progress
Total of 78lbs lost since surgery 4/19/12. Wearing size 10 American Eagle jeans and a medium Adidas men's sweatshirt. Please excuse the weird stance - I'm only 5'1 and was standing on a stepstool! -
I have been on my 10 day liquid diet now with no complaints. I'm almost to the end. I am having one small issue though, bad leg cramps. I'm certainly getting enough fluids. I'm more regular to the bathroom then Old Faithful Is to the sky. There is literally no color to my urine at this point. Any ideas what I could do to relieve these leg cramps?

Almost one year out... Pics enclosed
sleevenv replied to Essence46's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Perhaps you (and all of us) should concentrate on your body fat percentage. My NUT laughed at me when I told her my fantasy goal is 125. She pointed out that with the muscle mass I have from weight lifting I'd have only 10% body fat! BMI isn't a perfect measuring device. It is strictly based on height and weight. Muscle is much heavier, but smaller! -
Could be coz there is about an inch from size to size the smaller you get I go by American eagles size chart they have the most standardized for us sizes. Wast/Hips 34/44 size 16 33/42 size 14 31/41. size 12 30/39 size 10 28/38 size 8 27/37. size 6 Sent from my iPhone using VST

I haven't been on here for a couple months and just wanted to give an update. I was banded on August 19, 2013. Since my surgery, I have lost 54lbs and lost 9 inches off my waist. I have gone from 257lbs to 203lbs....from a size 22 to a size 12. One-derland is so close!!!!! Hope everyone else is doing good.....I LOVE MY BAND!!!

I just had a revision from band to sleeve. My worry was that small risk that it would be a 2 part surgery. However, it went well but the doc said it was an 8 out 10 on the difficulty scale because the band was stuck to everything and was encased in fat. Really scary but recovering fine. Insurance covered 100% thank god. I can’t imagine leaving the country for this.

Was banded May 9, 2013. Everything went well. Got my first fill at 6 weeks then in August I was having a lot of throwing up and reflux so I had fluid removed. I felt better right away. Then in September I got an awful stomach virus and couldn't keep anything on my stomach for over a week. I went to see my dr and we removed more fluid to allow my stomach to settle down and heal from the virus and the throwing up. That has been five weeks ago. I went for an adjustment today and I had gained 3 lbs which didn't really surprise me since when I had the virus I lost almost 10 lbs in less than a week but I am now worried about this prolapse. I've got to go back in 4 weeks and if it isn't any better or is worse all fluid will be removed, wait 4 - 6 weeks see if that helps if it doesn't then surgery to reposition the band. They also said try not to be stressed! Yeah right! I'm a worry wart anyway, not to mention the past 3 months have probably been the most stressful time of my life as I have been dealing with my 18 & 20 year old kids acting up to the point that we had to make them move out of the house. So how I'm going to avoid stress I don't know. Sorry for rambling on. Has anyone else had a prolapse? Is this a common thing? I am just so upset and disappointed because I've lost 40 lbs and had been doing so good. I don't want to back track and I especially don't want to have to pay for surgery again. Any advise?

I'm ten months out and down 108 lbs. I'm about 6-7 lbs. from my doctor's goal and 16-17 lbs. from my goal. Wearing a size 10/12 on the bottom and a medium on top. Pretty much all of my extra weight is in the stomach/hip area. Feeling great and trying to start jogging. Hoping that will lean out the middle section. This photo shows me and my daughter on Easter. ????

9 days post op and I am HUNGRY!
Foxesoz replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve on 28/4 and like others I am super hungry. I spoke to the nurse and she said that a rumbling stomach isn't necessarily a sign of hunger. Even though I've stuck mostly to fluids only I did eat a cereal bar yesterday (I felt like I could've eaten 10!). I haven't felt full or sick or had any acid. It does make me wonder if there are only 5 holes in my stomach and the joke is on me! -
What pain medications have you had success with since WLS? I am 10 months post-op, I have lost 120 lbs and still have 42 to go. This week I ended up in the ER with ovarian cysts. Very painful. The ER doc is not real familiar with WLS and gave me pain meds that just aren't working. What have you had the best luck with?

April 10, 2007-Today is my bandanniversay!-ONE YEAR!!!
jess-band4/06 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just wanted to share that today is my 1st bandanniversary! Over the past year I have lost 94 pounds..gone from a size 20-22W to a 8-10 petite. My BMI went from 47.8 to 29.5. :clap2: I am very pleased with my progress, as are my family and friends. A few people have not recognized me! Of course the band we know is just a tool and my 4 days a week exercise and 1200 calorie a day really did the work. There is the fat women still lingering in my head, but I am going to keep her down and gone. My mother put it best when she said..."Jessica they put a band on your stomach---they did not do a lobotomy...our minds can be just as evil as our mouths can be! I think the best thing that has been said to me about my weightloss was from my children my ds said "Mom there is nowhere to snuggle" and my dd said" We can sit on the chair together" -
