    Hello from South Carolina

Welcome Littleman! It's nice to have you join us at LBT! For me, being banded was the best decision I have made! It has given me a whole new life. Has it been work, heck yeah. Is it always easy, nope. But it is well worth it! There are a lot of people here and we all have our personal experiences with the band but the majority are going to tell you that they don't regret it. My advice, go into this with all the knowledge you can possibly get. LBT is a wealth of information so read, read, read. Also, expect it to be work. The band is just a tool and you have to be committed to making it work. As far as I'm concerned, most people who are going to take this step to get the weight off, are committed people. Keep a positive but realistic attitude and you will do great! Best of luck to you and keep us posted on how things are going!

Weight is 248, only 13 pounds since surgery, but instead of wearing 22-24 pants, I'm wearing 18-20. I have my first fill scheduled for the 12th of this month. I am eating anything but just not as much as I use to, but still eating way too much. Still feel hungry, still eating even when I'm not hungry.... got to get this better in control and start eating food that is better for me! Read on this site about a sweet spot, I have no idea what that is. I just know that I want it!

    Possible tax write off

Since Obesity is such a growing health concern, it has been stated that with obesity weight loss surgery, we may be eligible for a tax write off. I'm also wondering if the purchase of fitness equipment falls into that same category? Anyone work for the IRS or is an accountant that may know the answer to this question?
  4. For those of you who are losing 2+ lbs a week and doing cardio 3-4 times a week, do you know what your daily calorie intake is? What is your typical meals like? I do spin class 3-4 times a week and my weight loss is 1+ (if that some weeks) and I dont think that im getting enough food?

    help

Wow! You sound just like me! In fact, I was so worried that I called the nutritionist and made an appointment to make sure I was doing everything right. Your body is going to freak out after surgery and think it needs to retain everything. Eventually it will let go. I know it's easy to say not to weigh yourself, but don't weigh yourself. Put the scale in your car. Give it to a friend. Better yet, smash it with a hammer. LOL! Our surgeons focus on the weight and the BMI but those are NOT the only measurements of health. They're just the best ones they can use. We have so much more at our disposal! For example, how do your clothes feel? Are they looser? Can you cross your legs yet? Do you not gasp for breath when you climb up the stairs? These are what we call "NSVs" - non-scale victories. Have a friend or family member measure you - your thigh circumference, your arms, your waist, your neck, etc. Then in a week measure again. GUARANTEED you'll see those go down. When you work out your body builds muscle which uses the fat for energy. Muscle weighs more than fat. So, you may be losing 5 pounds of fat but gaining 6 pounds of muscle. That's ok as long as the fat is going away. If you don't believe that, ask your butcher to give you 2 cuts of beef that look the same (same size) - one with a lot of fat, one without. Hold one in each hand. Guaranteed the cut of beef with less fat is heavier than the one with more fat. Like Proudgrammy said, everyone is different. Keep in mind on this forum that people are not always honest (insert shocked face here). My starting weight, for example, is the weight I started out at when I started this journey with my lap band 5 years ago. So my weight lost isn't what I've lost since surgery. Although I input the information correctly on the system, that's not the way it's showing on my profile. I've hit plateaus - I'm in one right now. But, I'm keeping up with what I need to do. Eating right, exercising, etc. I feel fantastic. Am I still overweight? Sure. But I feel incredible. I'll never be 300 pounds again. Heck, I'll never be 265 pounds again. Will I stay at 258? Maybe - although I doubt it. I'm happy with what I've done. Don't know if my surgeon will be but whatever. I know that I'm more than a number on a scale. Hang in there. You're doing great. Throw that rotten scale away.

    Losing in MOST places

I'd love to say I don't have anywhere else left to lose weight from but that's not my situation. However, I agree...that darn top belly roll wont go away! Urgh...it makes my darn shirts fit weird and it's embarassing! I'd agree...the belly is the worst spot to lose from. It's really stubborn.

    Solid Food Phase

Hi, this is my first post. I got banded on October 2nd. Hence my name Band100206 Today begins my 1st day of real food. I go in for my 1st fill on Nov 8th. I just had salmon and mashed potatoes and some Soup 20 min after that. Since my band is still empty I find I'm hungry quite a bit. I'm really nervous about trying foods out with having the band. Since I had no trouble with liquids or mushies, I'm scared of having solids. Like if there’s onions in something, should I just pick those out. I keep thinking of stuff, like will it turn into a bready consistency in my stomach. Like rice or French fries, or tortillas. Should I even bother trying salad while eating out. I know they say everything is different with everybody, so I think that’s why I’m getting so nervous about eating solid food. Blah! Tomorrow my job is having a party. I’m sure they’ll be cheese and crackers and wine etc. Again totally nervous about eating and drinking there too  So just hoping some people can lend me some advice, having been there done that. So far my weight loss has really just leveled out, I'm really hoping this changes when I go in for my 1st fill. Thanks in advance!
  10. Have not lost any weight in almost 3 weeks I am 2 months out from surgery and have lost 45 lbs so I am not complaining. I am going to the gym 3-4 days a week but I think my issue is I am not eating enought my nutritionist said my body is starting to hold onto calories it is in starvation mode. So I am trying to up my food intake Nd water will see what happens then. Have any of you had a long stall if so what helped break it

Nope.... I don't think anyone does/has. You're pretty much on your own with this. Just think... if you eat $133.33 less in food a month, over 10 years, the band will have paid for itself!! LOL You'll also likely live longer, from losing *any* weight, even if not all that you want to. Smaller clothes are cheaper than plus-sizes (any one else agree?). But then again, once you can wear whatever you want, you could go nuts and buy more clothes than ever before! Mandi

    All Inclusive

We go to cancun every year and also stay at an all inclusive resort. We will be going this upcoming June. it will be the 1st time back since I have been banded. In the past I too have gained at least 5 pounds on our 10 day trips there. This year I know I wont over eat, I wont over drink. I have my tool and we are working together to keep me healthy. I can't wait to go this ye4ar and be able to do things I couldn't do last time, such as Cliff diving, parasailing, wearing my bathing suit without being all covered up like a mummy....

    Invisable

I am almost 4 mos. out from surgery. I have lost 31 lbs This picture was taken today. This morning I was thinking about being obese and how it felt. Do any of you feel like you are just a shadow figure to the world? People do not look at me, they do not see me and they do not want to see me. All they see is a large shadow to be avoided. Only my family sees the person under the fat. But when they look at other obese people what do they see? When I lose all the weight, what will I see? And how about all of us, the obese people? Don't we want to just blend in to a point that no one sees us? I think I do. I don't want to be noticed.

    Last 6 month supervised

I just started my first month weigh in yesterday. Good luck! Do you have united healthcare too? Did they tell you whether you were allowed to lose any weight during the waiting period? If so how much?
  15. I have United, they are a pain. Keep working on the insurance approval and follow exactly what they want. I started at 370, did my 6 months in which I was definitely expected to lose (modified South Beach Diet for 4 months then I ate like it was my last meal! I stayed at about 310 for last couple months.) My surgery was Dec. 10 lost about 37 since then, My goal is to be under my college weight of 227. I am at 269 this morning when I stepped on my home scale before getting dressed. United wants you to prove to them that you are serious about losing weight and that you will keep at it. They require you to go to Diet Dr. or equivalent every month. It was a great way to get used to bariatric foods. I found I could eat plain nonfat greek yogurt with Peanut Butter powder, fresh fruit, or even diet maple syrup mixed in. I learned how to eat 60 grams Protein a day and to follow a tight diet while walking a bunch. I was worried about losing too much, but that is unlikely. My Dr. told me that if I started losing too much she'd put me on a Golden Corral diet for awhile. I also think United wants people to re-consider if they are doing really well on their own diets and NOT get WLS.

    Need a PEP TALK!!!

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Could you go talk to your primary care doc and see what they have to say. Also I had diarrhea in the liquid stage but it went away a couple of days after I moved to mushies. I hope you can find a solution, I really love the band and my weight lose so far. Let me know if I can help in anyway, we are here for you.
  20. I went for my 12 week follow up appointment on Friday. My surgeon was called out for surgery, so I met with one of the other surgeons in the office, whom I have met before, so I did not mind. My last follow up appointment was on October 30th (a month and 3 days after surgery) at which point I received a 1.5 cc fill, adding to the 2.5 cc's put in at time of surgery, for a total of 4 cc's in my 10 cc band. My surgeon was certain that I would need another fill by this next appointment (on Friday), however the other surgeon that I met with went on and on about how well I was doing. I have lost 30 pounds since surgery on 9/27/12. He said I have lost 23% of my excess weight in less than 3 months and said in his opinion I do not need a fill. When averaged out over the weeks since surgery I am losing about 2.33 pounds per week, which he said was amazing. I guess my question is, how many of you have gone in for a scheduled fill and not received one? He told me to call anytime before my next scheduled appointment to come in for a fill if I feel that I need one. What signs will I have if I need one? I am still very new to being banded and am looking for some Band Vets advice here. I do limit myself to a cup of food per meal, stay below 1100 calories a day, most days am successful of getting in all my Protein. I do snack between meals, still staying in my caloric range for the day. Like I said, I feel like I am missing something, or uneducated as to how I will know if I need a fill?? Thanks for any advice in advance and Merry Christmas to everyone!! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

    I Need Help!!!

HollySue You are not a failure - you are just in a rough spot. If you can not eat regular food (I'm not talking about pizza) but meats/hard Proteins (cut up to the size of an erase tip), chicken, fish, veggies and some carbs you are too tight and should have some taken out. What is a typical day's food for you - are you tracking your calories are you exercise - are you eating low fat & sugar free. I think you have resorted to eating slider foods (foods that slide right through your band) and that you may be eating more calories than you think. I know that people say they didn't get the band to weight & measure foods - to track calories and Protein grams - but as fat chick we don't know what a real serving size is - we think a serving is 16 oz steak - large loaded baked potato - Soup & salad then dessert - when in fact 4 oz of meat - 1/4 of a large baked potato without the extra and 1/2 cup veggies is a real serving size.. I use my scale and food diary as a learning tool - it helps me know what calories I have eaten for the day - It's easy to forget that string cheese and few crackers - those 200 calories adds up. We are suppose to get min 60 grms of protein - if you aren't reading labels and tracking you don't know what you are getting or not getting - did you know that for every ounce of meat you have 7 grams pt.. I think that you need to quit the pity party about being a failure you aren't you have lost 50lbs and that's a considerable amount to be proud of Now just pull yourself up by your boot straps - make the commitment to yourself right this second that you are going to get the rest of your weight off. This commitment will include exercising min 3 x week for min 30 minutes and build from there - Track your calories - 900 -1200 a day - Eat healthily low fat - low sugar - get your 64 oz of Water - 60 grams of pt & Vitamins. If you need some take out to achieve this (remember tiny tiny bites eat slowly and chew chew chew) if this doesn't work then you do need some taken out - don't drink with meals and up to 1/2 hr after. You can do this Hollysue :glare:- Stand up for yourself you are worth it :Dancing_biggrin:- Come join us on our main thread we are a great group and we will help you We aren't going to beat you up - we aren't going to yell at you we all understand - but we will give you tough band love (operative word being love) I look forward to seeing you on our thread You are a Lucky #7 and you will succeed..
  22. Please keep this thread in the loop of your progress. I am just now going to call to get an appointment. I have been to the weight management class and now am going to get some other appointments going. I would like to see how it goes for you. I will be going to the facility off of Van Buren.

    feeling full

I am not a man, but I am post-op AND previously a volume eater. After banding full feels different. Very different. But hunger feels different too. When I get hungry now, it is without the pain and nausea I used to experience. I think that pre-op hunger was withdrawal... Now when I get hungry, it is without the urgency or cravings and I can make healthier choices for myself. The highs from being FULL will be gone, but I don't miss them, yet. I am hoping that when I lose some more weight, my quality of life will give me my highs.

    Been Quite sometime

Well I cannot believe this is the first time I have been on here in this long.....it seems like just yesterday when i started this journey, and I have taught so much about myself over the past years and have changed so much I have a hard time remembering the "Old" me. I gained in between the end of 2009/2010 and had not been back to see the Doctor until last summer...which is when I finally got back on track. Everyone thinks this is simple, but we all know it is something we deal with daily and we have to stay on top of to be succesful. I am closer now to my goal than ever before, and I cannot wait to Kiss the 200's good-bye!!!
