    I'm 102 pounds down

I'm glad that I'm not the only one for whom picking up dog poop without pain is a NSV.

    Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

It has been 2 weeks.... How is everyone doing? Anyone still feeling pain? How are your incisions healing? And NSV's to speak of? I am doing great.... I had my first follow-up appt with my surgeon. Everything is fine and on track so I see him again in 2 weeks. I saw him before but it wasn't a follow up as much as to take the drain out. Still pain free and completely comfortable but still itchy around my incisions sometimes. I have a few NSV's.... 1. I can wear my wedding rings and they are comfortable. 2. I am almost a full size down. 3. I am wearing undies that were too small before 4. My feet are changing and shoes are already getting loose. It's a start and I am over the moon about #1 And my surgeon says that I can start doing ab work and weights in a week. Yay!!! What about you?
  4. I had the best thing happen to me this morning! When I got out of the shower, I wrapped myself in a towel and it closed all the way around, even my hips!!!! I cannot even remember the last time that happened. I usually look like a leaky burrito when I get out out the shower. I was so excited that I ran in to show my husband, and he was all "That's... great! What?" He had no idea why I was so excited about it, but he did helpfully point out that I was dripping on the floor.
  5. Unfortunately, yes. Its as if I am not invisible anymore. More people look and smile more. Whereas before I felt as if I was kind of ignored. Now part of that probably has to do with the fact that I have a different attitude but still. One thing that irritates me is that a man almost always holds a door open for me now. I know its a nice gesture and it is not his fault men didn't do that before but its a reminder of where I came from and there sooo is a world of beautiful overweight people that out there that deserve that kindness too. The clothes part has had a strange twist I didn't see coming. I gravitate back to the plus size section every time. I am (or was) comfortable there. But its not where I belong anymore. Yet when I go to the regular sizes I feel like I don't belong there either. Its a work in progress. Funny NSV (non scale victory): that I had to adjust the seat in the car because since my bum shrunk, I was sitting lower in the seat. Losts of little things you never thought could be affected that are. Its very fun. Size wise I am a comfortable 14 with a few 12s. My personal goal is to be comfortable in a size 10. I think its doable.

Astrotoes, our breed of sheep are called Rideau-Arcotts, they are known for having mutiple lambs and out-of-season breeding.:huggie: Green, I swear, my husband never goes near the computer. But he walked past and saw the words exotic stuff and he's like, whoa, whats that about. I'm like it says exotic, not erotic stuff!!! So now he's saying, Oooooo ask her where the REALLY GOOD shops are. You may have to PM me with that info. God, I'm so sorry!!:nervous Anyway, thank you for the info. I'm making a promise to myself to come up from underground. I say that every year, then I get to scared. I'm afraid of freaks or maybe I'll get shot, I dunno. I think that is the first time ever, I didnt dread getting on their scale. But, 2 new NSV's -my blood pressure went from 147/94 to 125/73!!!! Woo Hoo!!! -my doc cut my asthma medication from 250 mg to 125 mg!!! Woo Hoo!!!

    Cold

This, to me, is one of the greatest things EVER. I'm fairly warm blooded and being so overweight, I was always hot and just a little movement and I was ALWAYS sweaty. I actually went to the mall the other day, usually a HUGE sweat fest for me, and I only sweat a little. My cheeks still got flushed but there wasn't Water pouring off of me. YAY! That is a HUGE NSV in my world!! And I have noticed I seem to get cold easier too. Wow. That 40 lb blanket I've thrown off sure did keep me too warm!!

    Suggested Mini-goals

Great idea Vines! My question is what kind of time frame are we talking about in regards to mini goals. Should it take less than a month or two, or perhaps before the next major holiday or special occasion like our bandiversary granted that is within reach? I would like to be in the KG double digits, therefore I have 23.5lbs to go to get there. My goal is to see that number by Valentines Day. It definately sounds more attainable than getting to Onederland by then. That means I need to average 1.57lbs/week. That is absolutely a more realistic goal that I'm used to making. In terms of NSV's I'd like to fit comfortably in size 18 bottoms and 18/20 or 2X tops by Christmas. I'm almost there now so this again is not an unrealistic goal. I'd also like to lose enough of the double chin that I have left now so that I can get a shorter hair cut and have it look cute.

    Suggested Mini-goals

For some of us, the thought of losing the 100 pounds that we need to lose is far too daunting to even think of doing. If we are part of the Turtle Tribe or even Winded Wabbits, I think some mini-goals are in order. Might I suggest the following mini-goals? getting to the next obesity level. For some of us that means that getting to the MO level is an accomplishment, for others it is leaving MO and just being obese, and for those that are closer to goal, overweight. Reaching Trippoli, Twonesia and of course, Onderland. These only count as mini goals if they are within a reasonable amount of time. Reaching double digits in KG, that means 218 pounds Cutting our BMI 1 full point, or even a half point. Gaining a pound of muscle For me, Onderland is not a reasonable mini-goal. At the rate I'm losing weight, that would likely take me another year. And even Double Digits seems to far away. NSVs are also important mini-goals drop to the next size not being able to wear a favorite pair of pants because they look like clown pants now walking up a flight of stairs without being winded or feeling like we are going to keel over from heart failure not needing a seatbelt extender being able to tie our own shoes And of course, the NSV-mini goal list goes on and on.
  13. @@Katcloudshepherd OMG poor hubby has been through the ringer you are his primary health care provider?? things must be very difficult for you too you've lost 121 lbs!!! might be a little easier to breath and move around helping hubby unexpected NSV maybe?? hubby needing oxygen 24/7, high blood pressure, many, many co-morbities many surgeries over the years it must be so hard for him and for you too having to be attentive to all his health needs (i'm sure you don't mind, but it must be draining/hard hopefully many of his ailments will improve or gradually disappear sooner than later he will "probably" have a difficult recovery the two of you will be standing hand in hand together standing very tall and strong being their for each other may the new year bring you both health and happiness good luck kathy

I'm trying to come to terms with the idea that...

Thanks for this post. I'm going to Italy in 5-1/2 weeks. My big wish is that I will be able to fly without the seatbelt extender, and keep up with all the walking on our tours. I will also see my oldest daughter that day for the first time since the beginning of January, when she left for a semester abroad. I miss her so much and Skype is great, but it's still been very hard. My younger daughter helped me during my surgery week and then went back to college. I'll see her over Easter. They are two of my four rocks of support, and I want to make them proud of me. My NSVs so far: Wearing blouses I haven't worn in a year. Walking 36 minutes on the treadmill at 3mph, adding a minute each day. Off NSAIDS. Off Prevacid. Off one blood pressure medicine (of two). Shoes are getting looser. Feet and legs are not swelling anymore. No back pain. Waking up energized instead of sluggish. Feeling in control of what I put in my mouth - priceless!

    Fenton vs. PRCowboy Challenge

Harold - I will be sure to send candies - sugar free of course !!! David - thanks - I'll take any and all inspiration. Honestly, I'm not upset, actually quite happy where I am. I see other NSV's all along (especially clothes) that keep me happy away from the scale. I bust my butt at least 5 days at the gym, eat like a "normal" human being and when I don't, the band is there to remind me. I feel better now than I have in years. I know its just a number, but would like to see myself at overweight, not obese sooner than later....

    Funny NSV

I teach high school and thankfully this happened before students were in the hallway. I left my room and started to walk down to the workroom. A coworker was walking several steps in front of me when my skirt fell down. Thankfully he did not turn around when I gasped and ran into the closest classroom. I also had a slip on so I was covered. I'd love to see our security coverage of that one though! Love that this is the first year in the 13 I've been there that I've worn a skirt or dress and LOVED it!

    I found my cheekbones! Pics

Great NSV! I can't wait to see mine. 6 days post-op. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App
  18. I dont recognize myself and then i see all the wrinkles. my skin is falling off. so far this is an nsv for me, i am nearly 60 and have no illusions left. I see it as a badge of success. the only one that even comes close to bothering me is the belly. I shall see what it looks like when (if?) i get to goal and maintain it for a while. It would be interesting to get it removed at that time but from what i can tell the panniculectomy seems to be a far tougher surgery than the sleeve and i did not have the easiest time with that one.

    3 weeks in!

I know what you mean. I gained 3 lbs last week, but then I read the article posted in this thread about stalls and it all made sense. I did check my measurements and I have lost 18.5 inches so far. NSV. My husband tells me to stay off the scale, but it is so hard.
  20. Kindle

    Gaining instead of losing

Yes. You are going to gain and lose and stall throughout this entire process. Just get in your protein and fluids, take your vitamins, stay away from carbs, enjoy the NSVs and SOTFS.

    Small sliver of light!

    Great NSV! Congratulations.

How hard is it not to feel jaded?

I appreciate when the newbies post of their successes. The reason is that it reminds me of the elation I felt when I was seeing success for the work and commitment I was putting in. It was very motivational to see the results and know that I was doing what I needed to do to make this work. When I read such posts I hope that their victories are providing them with the same elation and validation I felt when I was where they are now. As a side note, one would be very wise to document such events, NSVs, feelings of elation, etc. There comes a time when the NSVs and the, "wow you look awesome" encounters fade. We all begin to live in what is our new normal. It is in those times that it is beneficial to be able to look back and remind ourselves just how important those events were to us and just how far we have come.
  23. They're absolutely right, you do look like your daughter (or should I say she looks like you?). I don't think they were joking when they asked if you guys were sisters. If you had posted this picture without an explanation/caption I would have assumed I was looking at two sisters about 2 - 4 years apart. Talk about an awesome NSV!

    It's done...although with last-minute changes

Small update...my plateau finally broke, and it was the result of actually increasing my calorie intake a little bit. I am now sitting at around 1,200-1,300 calories a day and the weight loss has picked back up again. I've started back at the gym again, just adding cardio. Over the past couple of months, my endurance and general condition has improved so much. When I first moved back to Colorado from California in mid-November and started delivering parcels for Amazon Flex, it was exhausting. Now, I barely break a sweat...so it was time to get back to daily cardio workouts. A great NSV is the fact that I've gone from a 52 waist pant worn below my waistline (and gut) to a 46 waist at my ACTUAL waist. I made the mistake of not measuring my waist before I started this process, so I'm not sure what it actually was...but I'm betting I started around 56" or so. So probably 10" off my waist to this point. I'm also fitting into 2x clothing now, down from 4x. My wife just had her first appointment with a surgeon, she's planning on getting the RNY during her summer break (she's a teacher). She's been impressed with the weight loss I've achieved thus far and is excited (and nervous) about following in my footsteps. It's the been the best decision I've made though, I wish I'd done it 10 years ago. Still got a ways to go, but it's coming!

How are the May sleevers doing?

I'm officially 3 months out and everything feels so much easier now! The first month or so was definitely rough. The struggle: I still haven't quite hit 800 calories a day and I am supposed to be stepping up to 1000. I am hitting my 90 g protein goal, but the struggle is on every day to up those calories. I started losing hair about 2 weeks ago. It is a lot. My weight loss is completely inconsistent week to week but going down overall. New NSVs: I went on The Hulk (Rollercoaster) at Universal Studios . Not a modified seat, a regular seat!! I was able to clip in the seatbelt myself! This is huge for me since last time I rode I was in a modified seat and had to have two guys come press down the chest harness to clip me in. Then I gained another 20 lbs and couldn't ride at all. My social anxiety is starting to go away. I went into a crowded restaurant this weekend and was not freaking out the whole time about taking up too much space or having to walk past people. I adjusted my office chair to move the arm rests in.
