I just watched this clip. And i used to coupon and i stopped bc there r rarely ever coupons for healthy food. The occasional salad bag coupon or yogurt. But other than that...its frozen meals n chicken nuggets. As i started to get into a healthier life style i left couponing behind. If i see a good coupon occasionally for healthy options ill use it but other than that ..nope. Its sad bc her husband seems to want to help and she isnt allowing it Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

What was for breakfast this morning?

Normally I have 1/2 cup of egg-whites and .5 oz of low fat mozzarella in an omelette, or a chobani fat free Greek yogurt. Today was a bit different because I ate out for breakfast and got 2 eggs and a sausage link. Breakfast is the easiest meal to eat out because of the easy choices and almost everywhere you can order Ala cart.

What was for breakfast this morning?

Ok... I'll bite... I had a Yoplait Light & Fit greek yogurt with 1/2 banana...a couple of hours ago... in a few my snack will be Crustless Mini Quiche I found on My Fitness Pal...
  7. After this fun thread from yesterday about lunches, I thought it would be interesting to see what people have for lunch. I go through weeks on weeks of having nothing more than a shake, so I'm interested to see what others do. Today, I had a Chobani plain greek yogurt with a tablespoon of chia seeds. That particular yogurt is low in carbs, which is good since I'm trying to limit mine. Adding in the Chia seeds gives it fiber, which helps keep me out of the various ohmahgawdI'msoconstipated threads. I let the chia seeds soak in for a few minutes so that they soften and taste better, and then a mix in a little water or tea to make it moist again (otherwise it turns to paste).

Able to eat more than I should

This is a myth. The "reset" is to get you back on track with a proper diet. It isn't going to magically make your sleeve smaller. The stretchy part of your stomach is what gets removed. Your new stomach IS supposed to stretch out to an extent over time and you should be able to eat more. You also need to be more specific. What constitues a meal for you? What are you eating? Have you introduced slider foods back into your diet? Is the issue of eating too large of a portion or being able to eat another "meal" 1-2 hours after your last meal? There are key differences here. I wish I could recall the member that originally posted this, but they put up a picture similar to this. So many people were saying it's impossible to eat all of that being a year out. Actually, it isn't as hard as you think. If you start on the potatoes first I could get all of those down and my chicken and some of the veggies. Now flip that around. If I start on the chicken first I'd likely get some of the veggies or potatoes, but that's it. Why? Because I started with the denser protein first. Think of it like this - you're trying to fill a hole with some freshly made cement and some hunks of rock to at as a filler. You can do it two different ways. One way is to pour the cement in first and then throw some chunks of rock into it. The other way is to put all the chunks in first and then pour in the cement. The difference? You'll likely get more of each in by starting with the cement first because it's going to fill all those little voids up. If you started with the rocks the cement may not be able to reach all those little spots or ever reach the bottom. This is a broad overview but do you understand the relationship? It's important to get a good understanding of slider foods and how they work. It isn't to paint the picture that all slider foods are bad for you. I consider yogurt to be a slider food because it's a liquid at room temperature. It's going to break down and go through your system much faster than 4 oz of chicken.

Energy wise the first month was really difficult for me. I'm not much of a napper, but I felt exhausted all the time. Walking is helpful for the healing process and exercise is important, but I didn't stress much about exercising for the first few weeks. I got off to a rough start so my focus was on healing first and avoiding any further complications. If your doc isn't overly concerned at this point that's a good thing. I wish there was a solid answer to your struggles, and it sounds like a cop-out excuse, but the truth is we all react differently. It may be taking longer for your stomach & brain to work together again. After surgery things are in chaos and those signals are all messed up. It is frustrating when a baby spoon full of food can make the difference of being satisfied vs feeling miserable. My suggestion is to keep doing what you're doing. Measure your food and stick to that. Eventually you should be able to add in another spoonful and not be bothered. Stick to that for awhile and then try increasing again. This is difficult phase to go through for a lot of us. The full sensations will come in time. Just keep in mind that with liquids and soft foods like applesauce and yogurt won't typically give you a full feeling as they pass through your system quicker. I had zero appetite in the early days and ate because I needed to, not because I wanted to. Things will start to come together soon. Hang in there!

I had my surgery about a month ago. It has been difficult. I never had pain due to surgery but pain from eating. I don't seem to get a signal of when I am full. It doesn't take much and when I eat that next spoonful it goes over and then the pain begins. We are talking about 4 teaspoons. I make protein the priority - don't want to lose my hair. So I eat plain greek yogurt with no added sugars and protein drinks. I try soups and have had some apple sauce. It is very liquidy then it is sort of ok - though even then I can drink too much. Apple sauce (the kind without added sugar) tastes good but really I can only have 2 teaspoons before it will start to hurt. So I pretty much measure ahead of time based on the experience I have had so far, what I can eat before it hurts. I stop before then and wait. I wish I knew what feeling full felt like. The one thing I am happy about is that I don't get ravenous. I think I feel hungry but not that ravenous feeling I used to get when I would try to diet. I did have a few things that would be considered poor choices - grape juice, potato chip (yep just one) and a few others thing but I could only get so little. I panic and then focus on why I went through this in the first place and try to move on. This is very hard. Not so much eating healthy - just eating period. It takes just one bite to make the difference between being done and pain for the next couple of hours. I hope this doesn't last and I figure out when I am full without pain being associated. Yes, I have seen the Dr and they agree I need to measure ahead of time. Unfortunately, the measurement changes with the food type. I guess it is a brain thing that I will figure out. Oh and the exercise thing - way too tired. I did walk for about 2 hours last weekend. I took breaks in between. Still when I finished, I slept for 4 hours and was wasted for 2 days. Today, I walked about a mile - slept for 2 hours and am still exhausted. Hope this goes away soon too. How was it for everyone else 1 month out?

    I’m HUNGRY

I would wait to see your doctor. I'm 7 weeks out and I saw my doctors last Thursday and gave me the all clear to eat normal foods and told me to experiment with different kinds of foods. You should try scrabble eggs and anything you can MASH up you can have so you don't have to just have potatoes, cream of wheat, or yogurt. You got this! 14. Hey everyone! I had my surgery 21 days ago, and I am currently on the soft foods stage. I AM MISERABLE!!! If I eat anymore mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, or yogurt, I’m going to lose it. Is it too early to attempt to start eating solid foods? Or can anyone give me ideas of other things to eat?

    What's for lunch today?

@OneDollarBill Great idea! I have 3 of them from Santa! I now can't wait to cook in them as well as use them for freezer!!! @Creekimp13 I'm completely off track today. I didn't rest until 5am, then slept until 11am. (Snow day in Houston, TX. It's official, hell has frozen over...) So I just ate my cottage cheese slop: 1/4c Greek yogurt, plain 85g Daisy 2% cottage cheese 1 1/2oz Premier Vanilla Protein RTD 1/2 eye dropper Vitacost liquid vanilla stevia 28g frozen blueberries 8.5g sliced blanched almonds 6.5g Fiber One cereal Nutritional Information: 201 cals; 22g protein; 6g fat; 17g carbs; 5g fiber; 12g net carbs This holds me a good 4-5 hours without hunger. It is about 1cup of food, slightly rounded. I also make it with Granny smith apple, cinnamon, walnuts rather than the blueberries and almonds. Sorry no piccys. Next time!

    No Appetite/Pain

I was sleeved on 12/20/2017. I also have no appetite. I may get 15 grams of protein a day. It takes me 2 hours to eat a 6oz yogurt. Water sits to heavy in my stomach so I have mixed in SF Kool Aid packets into it and it goes down a lot better. I have learned the hard way that I have to take extremely small sips at one time, and take small spoonful of food spaced out in order for me to feel normal. Otherwise it feels like it gets stuck in my chest area. I hate to admit this, but this process is for some reason way harder than I had originally thought. I am hopeful things even out and get better as time progresses.

    Calcium

I never took the chewables. As long as it's the correct dose of Calcium Citrate...you're golden. Honestly? I just pop them in a glass with a little hot water or coffee and wait for them to soften a little...then I munch them up and swallow them. I get the big chalky monsters that are the size of a June bug. They have the taste and consistency of plaster of Paris going down...but meh...i'm cheap. It saves a buck and it's not so bad. I used to use a pill crusher and put the powder in sugar free Kool whip or yogurt.
  19. Everything you're feeling is normal. It can be crazy difficult to try and sort through all the feelings and signals that your body is giving you. The nerves to your stomach are in complete disarray right now. It will take some time for your new tiny stomach to get in synch with your brain. We all experience it differently but typically when you’re in the liquids only stage (which does include Jello) you may never actually experience a full sensation. Liquids pass through much faster than solid foods, and things like Jello break down and turn back to a liquid state quickly so unless you eat too much too fast you’ll likely never get a full feeling. Measuring out your portions and taking time between bites is key at this stage. When I was able to start having yogurts I used a baby spoon. I’d take a bite (if you can call it that) and then set it aside for a few minutes. Then I’d try again and repeat. It can be maddening when it takes half an hour to eat a couple ounces of yogurt but being patient is worth it. Allowing yourself a few minutes between bites will give your body some time to send signals saying “hey…back off now.” Just be sure you’re accurately measuring your protein & water intake. As long as you’re hitting your daily goals and getting your vitamins in you’ll be good on the nutrient side of things.
  20. I am 5 weeks post op. Doing great until I added food! At first I vomited only some things. Now almost all things- eggs- re fried beans-yogurt-ground beef- mashed carrots. Surgeon wants to do an endoscopy- has this happened to anyone else? Liquids/protein shakes are fine.

Kind of worried - daily calorie intake

@Creekimp13 May I ask what your pre-op diet was? Bethesda = Walter Reed? I'm in Maryland, my surgery in Annapolis, but I am keeping an eye on Hopkins' requirements, too. Avoiding ultra low-calories for an extended period makes a lot of sense. My surgeon's one unique insight at our orientation is that sleevers lose as much as bypassers at 5 years. He is allowing us to eat low carb (I've calculated 800 cals) for our pre-surgery diet: 3 meals with 4 oz protein, 3 fruits and/or yogurts, 2 T salad dressing, some nut proteins, and veges.
  22. I'm sorry to hear the pain and stress you are feeling. You have not wrecked your sleeve. Start small on your selfcare. Some things to think about or try... Your stress seems to be at home. Doing activities out of the house might clear your mind. Go for a walk or to the library. Mind ,body and spirit takes a lifetime of work Will a diet of protein bars and shakes make you feel deprived and more hungry? WIll bars and shakes be sustainable long term to lose weight? this is my example of light to no prep --- Would this be doable for you? here is what a day of food can look like: Breakfast: 2 Dannon light n fit yogurt and two jimmy dean turkey sausage (microwave and your done) Snack: Quest oatmeal cookie chocolate chip bar Lunch: Cobb salad I break this into two meals..I can't eat this in one sitting 7 oz Canned chicken 3.4 oz bagged salad sunflower crunch kit add some bacon bits and sunflowerseeds from the kit if you like. 1 Wholly guacamole mini cup. (your decision if you want to add dressing) Dinner: 6 oz Frozen pre cooked fajita chicken strips (john soules)(microwave and done) 3 oz frozen green, red peppers and onion strips..(Microwave and done) 1/2 flat out bread lite (weight watchers) Salsa Snack : 6 fresh strawberries 2 tablespoons sugar free hershey's chocolate syrup to dip them in. Myfitnesspal log estimate - Calories 1036 protein 131 - carbs 73 - fats 33.

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

Hi, all- I am one week out today from my sleeve last week and just want to send my support to everyone who is still waiting. I am feeling terrific today- really good. The first few days were hard (I had lots of nausea) but quickly got much much better. I was pretty terrified of this surgery before I had it, but now I am already grateful. Down 24 pounds since preop diet, which I think is pretty great! Also just feeling content with the decision now that it’s done- I keep feeling surprised that I still feel like myself- I don’t know what I thought was going to happen, but I’m so relieved that I feel pretty normal by this point, and the only difference is being a tiny bit sore and having to take a half an hour to eat a Greek yogurt Getting all liquids and protein in, and feeling so much better. Just wanted to send reassurance to any people who like me were absolutely scared out of their minds. All will be well! Surgery Date: January 8, 2018 Sleeve Gastrectomy

    Protein shake and liquids schedule

orionburn, that's pretty much what I do, and it works. On days when I decide to have a cooked breakfast, (some of my office meetings are over breakfast) I make the protein shake for lunch. My program calls for 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after, and I find the after part to be the hardest. But I've learned to be very careful about avoiding dry foods. I usually serve my cooked proteins with some sort of gravy or sauce--even if it's just a spoonful of greek yogurt. It helps me to not feel like I'm choking on dry meat. I don't have to set a timer, because I'm watching that clock until I can take a drink again!! But keeping that large iced water or tea right beside me all day is what gets me to that liquids goal. On days when I forget it I can guarantee I'll lose track and end up feeling dehydrated at the end of the day.
  25. I hope your father is still doing well. Time to put your selfcare back into practice. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. You can do this. Getting back on track can be done. Whenever you struggle, get back on the horse. Be consistent not perfect. I can relate. I had a gain in my third year. I just got my weight back down. I miss the days of fast weight loss. I had to do some trial and error on what foods help me feel full. I don't do shakes. I don't feel satisfied on liquids. I log my food.(myfitnesspal) I'm hitting around 1200/1300 calories and low carb. I increased my protein goal. (building more muscle and helps with hunger) I eat vegetables with meals. The fiber and bulk help keep my calories in range and hunger down I keep healthy options for salty and sweet cravings on hand. I keep my temptations foods out of the house..lol Lots of water..(I use crystal light for flavor) I eat about every 2 to 3 hours Exercise/activity Make a grocery shopping list. Plan your food and meals. Protein choices - Beef chicken pork fish eggs dairy beans (I'm sure there are more) spices. (Fresh garlic pre peeled and in a bag) (taco/fajita) (grill mates marinades) Fresh veggies and fruit Bariatric friendly recipes this is my dieticians website. http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ I have some repeat items that I don't have to cook.... lol some days are just busy Tuna pouches Pre cooked hard boiled eggs (they sell them in the delli area of winco and walmart) Dannon light n fit greek yogurt John soules pre cooked chicken breast strips freezer aisle (chicken fajitas) Smoked salmon canned chicken marketside fresh steamable vegetables (walmart) french green beans I add bacon bits and sliced almonds) (Brussel Sprouts topped with parmesan cheese) (Riced Cauliflower) dole - Bag salad Sweet cravings Strawberries dipped in hershey's sugar free syrup .
