You have to make sure anything you eat is very moist. Soft white fish goes down very easy like haddock or cod. Also, chicken thighs, add some chicken broth to it and it will slide down easier. I lived off cottage cheese and yogurt when i was forst sleeved. Scrambled eggs mamy people eat, but they came right back up for me. Now 9 months out I can get them down sometimes, but not all the time, not sure why. Good luck, just try small bites and youll figure out what works for you, everyone is different . Thanks for the advice! I currently eat no fruit, but do eat veggies with Greek yogurt as my snack. I have been walking more and riding my bike around. Started back up at the gym, but I haven’t been able to make it yet. Until I do, I’ll try and just step it up then. Thanks!

I got sleeved a week ago. What I'm doing.

You may also be getting dehydrated which can happen. Water is heavy and harder to go down without pain. You could try liquid yogurt, crystal light, iced tea, anything but plain water would be easier to get down. Don’t forget there is also sugar free jello and pudding which is easier to get down. Also you might not feel hungry for a long time, but it is still important to stay hydrated and fuel your body. Good luck! -
My gut is PISSED OFF! 2 month old newbie needs help! Offer some keto guidelines?

I’ll look for the yogurt for sure, tons of protein! As for the cheese, my local specialty store has so much I’m sure there’s beer drinkers- great name! Thank you for the suggestions -
Yes, the return of the dreaded hunger/cravings! I have not yet tried the Paleo diet but am looking into it. I'm trying to go back to basics. I have also returned to a nutritionist but this time not the one at my DR's office. So far she's really good. I made sure that she had experience with people who had WLS and she seems to. I've been to NUT's before but so far she has been really good while the others were not. She actually helped me with a meal plan, not just showed me plastic food portions. One of the things she is having me do and is what I have read on sites like theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and others is to not be afraid of foods that are not low-fat. In fact, when I have cheese or yogurt or things like that, it's ok to have the full fat version. It will be tastier and actually better for me. And, she said that I have not been eating enough of the right foods which is why I eat more later. Try to go back to basics, make sure you don't drink with your meals, etc.

I got sleeved on the 7th rather than the 6th. I was sleeved at a BMI of 30.6, I think I had previously said I was 31.6 but I was mistaken. I was told to stick mostly to water for my first week, so I have had 2 portions of home made chicken bone and vegetable broth each day and water throughout the week. The last few days my stomach has started to growl and churn, but otherwise its been pretty effortless, if not a chore to remember to drink my fluids and broth. I am feeling pretty weak tbh, My dog has bad back legs and I have to carry her around a lot and this has become a challenge. I get exhausted doing things I used to do effortlessly. Last night I made two soups for the first week of full liquid stage, Ive tried to cram as much nutrition in to them as possible. Both are made from home made chicken bone and vegetable stock and grilled chicken thighs, one is carrot and squash and the other is mushroom. They have been frozen in to individual containers. I am lazy when it comes to cooking, so its easier for me to make a weeks supply in one evening than to cook every day. This morning I started my transition to full liquids with a protein shake (powder + water) I am not particularly looking forward to starting full liquids because I dont know what to expect and I dont feel a drive to eat anything right now. I also have some greek yogurt, but keep forgetting to eat it. I dont have a feeling of fullness at all, If I drink too much I can get a pain, but otherwise im just measuring out my broth portions and hoping its enough. So that is pretty much how the first week has been for me, Hopefully I am on the right track.

My gut is PISSED OFF! 2 month old newbie needs help! Offer some keto guidelines?
GeTnBackuP posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hello. I’ve had some success on keto and Atkins type diets in the past and I am curious how they work post op and more than a little nervous to start it up again now since they are basically higher fat and my past probs there...plus I’m only two months + post op. Lil backstory- I had my gallbladder taken out 11/2016 and a year later my body still hasn’t made up its mind on how to process fats (mainly dairy, meat based fats are tolerable) Some days I can totally tolerate minimal dairy (like in my morning coffee or some meat wrapped cheese/pickle meals). Other days I take one sip of my AM coffee and I bolt straight to the bathroom & for the rest of the day- this is low fat, whole milk, half and half or even full on heavy cream. I literally can drink/eat FULL fat one day and get the intestinal freak outs the next! I don’t get it! I had VSG on 10/31/2017 (2.5 mos) and still struggle having dairy back into my diet since I’m pretty much experiencing the same thing. Now I make my one morning coffee with chocolate Premier Protein shake and do OK but still struggle with any other dairy...cheese, low fat sour cream, yogurt...but I WANT TO COOK WITH THIS STUFF! PLUS I NEED THE CALCIUM. Ricotta bake- HELLO! I want to be able to eat that without excusing myself from the table after one bite. Can I do a modified Keto and/or Atkins type eating program that allows me to eat lower fat (mostly dairy) type foods and still be satisfied and lose weight? Maybe less fat and more protein? Is there something like that- toss in some whole greens maybe? I’m earnestly trying and reaching out for help so please don’t give me arrogant attitude. I enjoy most of you but geez the power trips here are sometimes too much...kinda like the trots I get lately many thanks and so much love and appreciation to all of you that offer kind supportive suggestions...Tess -
Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
Mitzy69 replied to cbchebert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow...you guys are brave...donuts? Tamales? Do ritos? Here is am trying to eat sugar free yogurt 😳Popsicles. I tried two bites of extremely moist meatloaf and was sick all night long. I can't even eat tomato soup. The acid of anything even a mashed boiled egg keeps me burping sour nasty burps. The only thing that went down smooth was a protein shake I made with bananas, peanut butter and fat free milk. I am planning on Keto dieting after I heal. If I can take it. Artificial sugars make me so nauseous. I am going nuts hungry and sick of jello, BROTH AND YOGURT! 15 days post surgery. Lost 16 pounds -

Beans are super dense, I still can't eat refried beans without thinning them (sour cream works well). Try lighter things first like yogurt, scrambled eggs, chicken salad etc. if something doesn't go down well just try it again a week or two later. -
Challenges transitioning from liquids
lalame replied to OscarsMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved September of 2016. The best way for a smooth transition is not to rush into the next steps. Liquids go to thicker liquids ( protein drinks, yogurt, apple sauce, pudding), to soft foods. I survived on refried beans, soft scrambled eggs. A lot of ideas for your stages on Pinterest. Good luck . -
Protien powders in pureed soup. Yogurt. Cottage cheese. Oatmeal thinned with milk. Best to check with your program and see what they recommend as each program is different. Pureed foods on day four seems a bit soon to me, but again, each program is different. Best wishes!

Hi from Fl 12/28 sleeved me too! I am staying up until Midnight to get the waster in . Up at 6 start water. i bought some isopure non flavored whey protein and adding it to my shake or yogurt, soup etc. I also use protein water and count that for protein and water? Idk.. this is a full time job managing vitamins, water, protein. Good Luck on your Journey. -
My portions are small but I can definitely keep down more than you! I still do protein shakes for breakfast because I never liked eating early in the morning and I go to the gym at 6am so I need something in my belly. For lunch I'll either do another shake or a yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Any of those keep me full and satisfied without needing to snack. For dinner I do about 2-3 oz of baked chicken and a little vegetable on the side. The dense protein still makes me feel overly full and most times I'm done after 2 or 3 bites. Some days I have no hunger at all so I just do 3 protein shakes to make sure I'm getting my protein requirements. Drinking is very easy for me and it goes down without issue. 60lbs is awesome!!!! Congrats [emoji106] [emoji106] I've been stuck at 40lbs down for about a week now. I feel good though so hopefully I'll see more loss soon.

OK so i was planning on getting this done actually looking forward to it. Seen a post got scared. I have no comorbidities i was just over the 40 BMI. I started nortripyline for headache prevention and well there goes almost 10 pounds i was 254 at that point i was trying to maintain so my insurance would cover procedure i am now not eligible. Loss of appetite is very rare for nortriptyline and im actually grateful i fast usually in the morning until 11 or 12 eat lunch and sometimes through out the day ill have a yogurt or a piece of fruit and im fine until dinner. and dinner is way smaller portions then i was doing so i guess for right now surgery is off.

Sleeve to Bypass revision weight loss success?
Tmusselman posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I can't get my old username to work so I had to create a new account but I used to post on here a lot. A little background on me. I had the gastric sleeve in July 2014. I never felt I had the restriction I was supposed to from this surgery. When everyone else was posting they couldn't eat a whole egg or yogurt, I was thinking are they nuts. I could eat that and not feel any fullness at all. My starting weight was 290 and through tracking and monitoring everything I ate, my lowest I got down to was 210 and it took over a year to get there. And then I stopped and got stuck there for months and months. Nothing worked, decreasing calories, increasing calories, changing exercise, nothing. Every time I visited my doctor's office I mentioned my lack of restriction and their advise was "just keep eating your protein and tracking your food". Honestly, I felt like I was doing a weight watchers program again because the lack of restriction I had. Fast forward to now and I have regained 40 of the pounds I lost. For the most part, I'm still watching what I eat, but when you have the ability to consume almost a full entree when you go out to eat, it makes it hard to stay on the program. In the fall of 2016, I finally got my surgeon to check the size of my pouch and he stated it's enlarged and I now have a hernia too. After going through everything in 2016 for a revision, i found out my insurance had a one bariatric surgery per lifetime benefit and would't budge on approving it. At this point it was too late for me to switch to my husbands insurance for 2017. I now have finally switched to his insurance and hoping the revision can finally happen. My surgeon is stating he can either do a resleeve or switch me to a gastric bypass. I choose the sleeve because I didn't like the idea of all the vitamins that are required with the bypass surgery and some of the negative long-term effects I heard about. I'm now considering the bypass because I don't want to get resleeved and be back in the same situation a couple years from now. Has anyone had the sleeve to bypass revision for weight loss? I realize weight loss will be slower with a revision. Can you advise what kind of success you had after the revision or any issues you are having afterward? Thanks for all that reply. On another note, I'm not looking for "this is just a tool and just because you can eat a full entree doesn't mean you should" replies. If I had a sleeve that worked like it was supposed to, I probably wouldn't be posting this. -
We count them as calories. We also count their protein content. We don't count carbs. We count calories 1000-1200, and Protein 60-80g+ We are discouraged from eating carbs that are high glycemic and have simple sugar that causes insulin spikes. Hummus and lentils are staples in my diet...they are low glycemic, and paired with brown rice protein make a complete amino acid. I also eat a lot of oatmeal, greek yogurt, and will be eating more nuts and seeds next week:)

A year out on December 2nd. Ask me anything
dr3am3rstarz replied to MsShortyDee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me that you can't replace the hair you have already lost, but you can stop it from becoming lost, as well as keeping it from breaking by eating more protein. I have found the easiest way to get more protein is to make smoothies using kale and other dark leafy greens, or making a protein shake, adding pb2 as a way to get more protein in drinkable form, there is also a protein packed yogurt that can add more as well, (Oikos, black containers.) I hope this helps! It's definitely made my hair stronger. -
Weight loss stall 3 weeks post- OP
Creekimp13 replied to Jennical's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I can eat it all:) And that menu is from soft foods a couple weeks ago. Now, I'm eating tons of other things...almost a normal diet. Still waiting on salads, nuts and steak...but next week Friday I get the green light for those. I had an appointment with my dietitian and doc today...5 week check up....everything is going great...and I had a fun surprise that I'm gonna write a post about. LOL. Here's a pic of my lunch yesterday...One cup of tofu chili and a whole wheat wasa. Yep, I ate it all....and had three snacks and two more meals:) For dinner, we had protein pasta (made with chickpeas and legumes added to the wheat....tastes just like normal spaghetti and you get 10g of protein for 150 calories! Had some chicken and marinara sauce on it and a little mozzarella cheese. For breakfast, I had an egg, half a whole wheat english muffin, and a strip of turkey bacon. Snacks were greek yogurt, a protien bar, and half a caramel premiere portien in a big cup of decaf coffee (tastes like a latte). I eat well...I'm never hungry...and my surprise today was that I lost a little more weight than I thought! -
3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.
GreenTealael replied to greygoosecytosis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im two months out, but I'm not sure this is my first stall or not as I don't check my weight often, I only found out because I had to check it at my primary doctor appointment. My first goal is to me under 200 so I can get off a Med I hate So far I have only lost 28 since surgery which seems slow/ low So I'm going back to bare basics and going as high protein as possible. It's very hard to get enough cals in early on I'm still only at about 700 but I realized I was eating too fast (10 mins as opposed to 30 mins ) so I was hurting myself in that area. I'm going slow picking easy to eat protein rich foods (cheese, yogurt, peanuts, shakes again ) instead of forcing dense chicken when I'll probably won't be able to tolerate it for a while And trying really hard to get at least 64oz water in. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Kmccor replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone! I've been stressed this week. At my full time job, we are in the middle of end of year and it is enough to make me pull what little hair I have left (yes, I lost hair but only enough to thin my pony tail. I had thick hair anyway). Well, prior to the surgery, I would have eaten anything that wasn't nailed down to help sooth the stress. Now, I can't/won't do that. I didn't put myself through this (and almost die - yes, I almost died. I had internal bleeding after surgery) just so I can fall into bad habits. But I gotta tell you what I want so I can get it out of my system. I want deep fried, salted, buttery, chocolate coated crappy goodness. I want bacon with buttermilk pancakes with oodles of maple syrup with a side of home fries and eggs where the syrup just gets every where and when you are eating it you think that Buddy the Elf was really on to something. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has been there? What I'm going to actually do is drink my water then get my yogurt and know that I currently feel better than I did in my 20's and this feeling of wanting to binge is going to pass and I will not have guilt for indulging the feeling. Thanks for listening! -
Almost a year out and still get it on a regular basis. Kind of depends on what I eat. For whatever reason things like yogurt tend to make the most noise. Doesn't stick around for a long but in a quiet office it stands out...lol

RNY 9 days in - record of post surgery progress
tankheadmommy replied to Biddy zz 🏳️🌈's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yogurt and soups do not satisfy me. I eat 4 times per day. Each meal is 3 oz of food. Egg salad, tuna salad, and ground turkey with tomato sauce and cheese are my favorites. I use unflavored protein in sugar free cocoa once a day and I drink Nectar protein drink once a day in my water. My body is trying to get used to everything and it is not easy watching others lose weight and I am not losing anything. I know my body will eventually start to let go of the pounds, I just need to be patient. I am glad to hear your story. I also thought my surgeon did not do my surgery right...lol!! I know she did, because I can not eat as much of the denser proteins. I think I also have trouble with feeling full since I had the lap band. I think the lapband have me scar tissue or my nerves are not as sensitive, it is harder to feel the fullness. During my 5th week (next thur) I will be able to have vegetables. I'm so looking forward to having them again. When do you get to vegetables? -
Help! How much eating in the purée stage?
MissSimpson replied to cathyj123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m at puréed stage and water goes down fine for me. The food - just depends on what it is. Yogurt goes down way easier than beans or something heavy. You’ll know if you eat too much or too fast. It’ll come right back up! That’s what I’m working with now. -

34, no pain, not very active, sleeved 11/7 SW 238 CW 210 I love love love to cook, I even cook foods I can no longer enjoy for other people. I want everything from scratch unless it's something I'm never going to make (yogurt, peanut butter, tomato sauce, etc. ) I love Mediterranean and Asian inspired cuisine. Can't wait to make some of them VSG appropriate. Haven't had any grains or breads as they ate not permitted until 6 months post OP. I need need NEED to work out more... Any suggestions? Walking around my neighborhood is out until better weather, I live on a steep hill and slid down. The gym is out, too far and takes too long to get there, so I'm doing DVDs. Anyone tried a mini trampoline ? -
I'm just at the end of my pre diet. For two weeks my daily food was: breakfast - protein shake, snack - 125g diet yogurt or 150g sugar free jelly, lunch - 150g protein (baked or grilled if cooking) and 150g veg/salad (no high sugar ones like corn), snack - 125g diet yogurt or 150g sugar free jelly, dinner - 150g protein and 150g veg/salad and then a snack again. I put alarms on my phone to tell me when to eat and I cleared my house out of everything I couldn't have. I also kept busy with work. I'm on a two day liquid diet now before surgery Friday. I know I'm only telling you what I've done but hope the structure might help you! I know you don't have the 100% go ahead yet but try it out and be prepared for when you get it. The first few days are tough but you get in to the swing and look at what the end result will be. What helps me is knowing there's a time limit. I don't think about after surgery, that's a different phase. Just go he'll for leather for these last few days. You can do it!!! Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app
