  1. Sleeved September of 2016. The best way for a smooth transition is not to rush into the next steps. Liquids go to thicker liquids ( protein drinks, yogurt, apple sauce, pudding), to soft foods. I survived on refried beans, soft scrambled eggs. A lot of ideas for your stages on Pinterest. Good luck .

    Protein????

Protien powders in pureed soup. Yogurt. Cottage cheese. Oatmeal thinned with milk. Best to check with your program and see what they recommend as each program is different. Pureed foods on day four seems a bit soon to me, but again, each program is different. Best wishes!

    November 30th

My portions are small but I can definitely keep down more than you! I still do protein shakes for breakfast because I never liked eating early in the morning and I go to the gym at 6am so I need something in my belly. For lunch I'll either do another shake or a yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Any of those keep me full and satisfied without needing to snack. For dinner I do about 2-3 oz of baked chicken and a little vegetable on the side. The dense protein still makes me feel overly full and most times I'm done after 2 or 3 bites. Some days I have no hunger at all so I just do 3 protein shakes to make sure I'm getting my protein requirements. Drinking is very easy for me and it goes down without issue. 60lbs is awesome!!!! Congrats [emoji106] [emoji106] I've been stuck at 40lbs down for about a week now. I feel good though so hopefully I'll see more loss soon.

    Gastric sleeve

OK so i was planning on getting this done actually looking forward to it. Seen a post got scared. I have no comorbidities i was just over the 40 BMI. I started nortripyline for headache prevention and well there goes almost 10 pounds i was 254 at that point i was trying to maintain so my insurance would cover procedure i am now not eligible. Loss of appetite is very rare for nortriptyline and im actually grateful i fast usually in the morning until 11 or 12 eat lunch and sometimes through out the day ill have a yogurt or a piece of fruit and im fine until dinner. and dinner is way smaller portions then i was doing so i guess for right now surgery is off.
  6. I can't get my old username to work so I had to create a new account but I used to post on here a lot. A little background on me. I had the gastric sleeve in July 2014. I never felt I had the restriction I was supposed to from this surgery. When everyone else was posting they couldn't eat a whole egg or yogurt, I was thinking are they nuts. I could eat that and not feel any fullness at all. My starting weight was 290 and through tracking and monitoring everything I ate, my lowest I got down to was 210 and it took over a year to get there. And then I stopped and got stuck there for months and months. Nothing worked, decreasing calories, increasing calories, changing exercise, nothing. Every time I visited my doctor's office I mentioned my lack of restriction and their advise was "just keep eating your protein and tracking your food". Honestly, I felt like I was doing a weight watchers program again because the lack of restriction I had. Fast forward to now and I have regained 40 of the pounds I lost. For the most part, I'm still watching what I eat, but when you have the ability to consume almost a full entree when you go out to eat, it makes it hard to stay on the program. In the fall of 2016, I finally got my surgeon to check the size of my pouch and he stated it's enlarged and I now have a hernia too. After going through everything in 2016 for a revision, i found out my insurance had a one bariatric surgery per lifetime benefit and would't budge on approving it. At this point it was too late for me to switch to my husbands insurance for 2017. I now have finally switched to his insurance and hoping the revision can finally happen. My surgeon is stating he can either do a resleeve or switch me to a gastric bypass. I choose the sleeve because I didn't like the idea of all the vitamins that are required with the bypass surgery and some of the negative long-term effects I heard about. I'm now considering the bypass because I don't want to get resleeved and be back in the same situation a couple years from now. Has anyone had the sleeve to bypass revision for weight loss? I realize weight loss will be slower with a revision. Can you advise what kind of success you had after the revision or any issues you are having afterward? Thanks for all that reply. On another note, I'm not looking for "this is just a tool and just because you can eat a full entree doesn't mean you should" replies. If I had a sleeve that worked like it was supposed to, I probably wouldn't be posting this.

    1000 cal/day 2 weeks out

We count them as calories. We also count their protein content. We don't count carbs. We count calories 1000-1200, and Protein 60-80g+ We are discouraged from eating carbs that are high glycemic and have simple sugar that causes insulin spikes. Hummus and lentils are staples in my diet...they are low glycemic, and paired with brown rice protein make a complete amino acid. I also eat a lot of oatmeal, greek yogurt, and will be eating more nuts and seeds next week:)
  8. My doctor told me that you can't replace the hair you have already lost, but you can stop it from becoming lost, as well as keeping it from breaking by eating more protein. I have found the easiest way to get more protein is to make smoothies using kale and other dark leafy greens, or making a protein shake, adding pb2 as a way to get more protein in drinkable form, there is also a protein packed yogurt that can add more as well, (Oikos, black containers.) I hope this helps! It's definitely made my hair stronger.

Weight loss stall 3 weeks post- OP

Yes, I can eat it all:) And that menu is from soft foods a couple weeks ago. Now, I'm eating tons of other things...almost a normal diet. Still waiting on salads, nuts and steak...but next week Friday I get the green light for those. I had an appointment with my dietitian and doc today...5 week check up....everything is going great...and I had a fun surprise that I'm gonna write a post about. LOL. Here's a pic of my lunch yesterday...One cup of tofu chili and a whole wheat wasa. Yep, I ate it all....and had three snacks and two more meals:) For dinner, we had protein pasta (made with chickpeas and legumes added to the wheat....tastes just like normal spaghetti and you get 10g of protein for 150 calories! Had some chicken and marinara sauce on it and a little mozzarella cheese. For breakfast, I had an egg, half a whole wheat english muffin, and a strip of turkey bacon. Snacks were greek yogurt, a protien bar, and half a caramel premiere portien in a big cup of decaf coffee (tastes like a latte). I eat well...I'm never hungry...and my surprise today was that I lost a little more weight than I thought!
  10. Im two months out, but I'm not sure this is my first stall or not as I don't check my weight often, I only found out because I had to check it at my primary doctor appointment. My first goal is to me under 200 so I can get off a Med I hate So far I have only lost 28 since surgery which seems slow/ low So I'm going back to bare basics and going as high protein as possible. It's very hard to get enough cals in early on I'm still only at about 700 but I realized I was eating too fast (10 mins as opposed to 30 mins ) so I was hurting myself in that area. I'm going slow picking easy to eat protein rich foods (cheese, yogurt, peanuts, shakes again ) instead of forcing dense chicken when I'll probably won't be able to tolerate it for a while And trying really hard to get at least 64oz water in.
  11. Hey everyone! I've been stressed this week. At my full time job, we are in the middle of end of year and it is enough to make me pull what little hair I have left (yes, I lost hair but only enough to thin my pony tail. I had thick hair anyway). Well, prior to the surgery, I would have eaten anything that wasn't nailed down to help sooth the stress. Now, I can't/won't do that. I didn't put myself through this (and almost die - yes, I almost died. I had internal bleeding after surgery) just so I can fall into bad habits. But I gotta tell you what I want so I can get it out of my system. I want deep fried, salted, buttery, chocolate coated crappy goodness. I want bacon with buttermilk pancakes with oodles of maple syrup with a side of home fries and eggs where the syrup just gets every where and when you are eating it you think that Buddy the Elf was really on to something. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has been there? What I'm going to actually do is drink my water then get my yogurt and know that I currently feel better than I did in my 20's and this feeling of wanting to binge is going to pass and I will not have guilt for indulging the feeling. Thanks for listening!
  12. Almost a year out and still get it on a regular basis. Kind of depends on what I eat. For whatever reason things like yogurt tend to make the most noise. Doesn't stick around for a long but in a quiet office it stands out...lol

RNY 9 days in - record of post surgery progress

Yogurt and soups do not satisfy me. I eat 4 times per day. Each meal is 3 oz of food. Egg salad, tuna salad, and ground turkey with tomato sauce and cheese are my favorites. I use unflavored protein in sugar free cocoa once a day and I drink Nectar protein drink once a day in my water. My body is trying to get used to everything and it is not easy watching others lose weight and I am not losing anything. I know my body will eventually start to let go of the pounds, I just need to be patient. I am glad to hear your story. I also thought my surgeon did not do my surgery right...lol!! I know she did, because I can not eat as much of the denser proteins. I think I also have trouble with feeling full since I had the lap band. I think the lapband have me scar tissue or my nerves are not as sensitive, it is harder to feel the fullness. During my 5th week (next thur) I will be able to have vegetables. I'm so looking forward to having them again. When do you get to vegetables?
  14. I’m at puréed stage and water goes down fine for me. The food - just depends on what it is. Yogurt goes down way easier than beans or something heavy. You’ll know if you eat too much or too fast. It’ll come right back up! That’s what I’m working with now.

    Food Game--Let's Dish!

34, no pain, not very active, sleeved 11/7 SW 238 CW 210 I love love love to cook, I even cook foods I can no longer enjoy for other people. I want everything from scratch unless it's something I'm never going to make (yogurt, peanut butter, tomato sauce, etc. ) I love Mediterranean and Asian inspired cuisine. Can't wait to make some of them VSG appropriate. Haven't had any grains or breads as they ate not permitted until 6 months post OP. I need need NEED to work out more... Any suggestions? Walking around my neighborhood is out until better weather, I live on a steep hill and slid down. The gym is out, too far and takes too long to get there, so I'm doing DVDs. Anyone tried a mini trampoline ?

    January bypass buddies??

I'm just at the end of my pre diet. For two weeks my daily food was: breakfast - protein shake, snack - 125g diet yogurt or 150g sugar free jelly, lunch - 150g protein (baked or grilled if cooking) and 150g veg/salad (no high sugar ones like corn), snack - 125g diet yogurt or 150g sugar free jelly, dinner - 150g protein and 150g veg/salad and then a snack again. I put alarms on my phone to tell me when to eat and I cleared my house out of everything I couldn't have. I also kept busy with work. I'm on a two day liquid diet now before surgery Friday. I know I'm only telling you what I've done but hope the structure might help you! I know you don't have the 100% go ahead yet but try it out and be prepared for when you get it. The first few days are tough but you get in to the swing and look at what the end result will be. What helps me is knowing there's a time limit. I don't think about after surgery, that's a different phase. Just go he'll for leather for these last few days. You can do it!!! Sent from my Moto G (5) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Looking for some Relief!

I'm just finishing my soft foods phase. My program doesn't want you to have many carbs, so I haven't tried things like potatos. Here's what I ate: Yogurt (this was the easiest one so do a greek yogurt daily - it can't have fruit etc in it). Egg - usually a fried egg, sometimes with a little FF shredded cheese on it Chicken Salad (made with FF mayo dressing). For a shortcut I would use canned chicken, which is softer Tuna Salad (this didn't go down as well for whatever reason) "Pulled chicken" - really just canned chicken with a small bit of mild BBQ sauce mashed Soups without pasta or rice (lentil, split pea, vegetable lentil is good) you can eat what feels like a lot Ground meat, lean turkey or hamburger, added mild taco seasoning (has to be a good day and you have to chew REALLY well) Turkey Sausage (I mince it and then chew it very well, its very flavorful) String cheese (eaten in very small pieces, chewed well). Soft vegetables and fruits were allowed, but I never had time to really try them because I had to eat so much protein to hit my goals. People also say Rocotta bake is good, I haven't tried that. Hope that helps. At first I started with the more liquid stuff like soups and then progressed to the more challenging things like soft ground meat.

    November sleevers here

I was sleeved on 11/29 and am only down 26 lbs and when I was on week 3-4 it hurt me really bad to drink water too and my surgeon and nutritionist told me I needed to counteract the acid in my stomach with acid and it helped tremendously. They told me to try adding lemon or a lime to my water. Did it for a few days and I can eat and drink with no problem. If you are having a hard time reaching protein, try premier protein shakes and adding unflavored protein powder to yogurt or pudding or cottage cheese, anything you can tolerate. I just had my 6 week post op appointment and thought I was behind schedule with everything but my surgeon assures I was right on track with my journey because we’re all different, you might just be healing at a different rate. Stay positive and good luck on the rest of your journey!

    November sleevers here

I was just getting ready to post asking a similar question. Today I am exactly 60 days post surgery (sleeve & switch done on 11/10), and I am down 60 lbs. Not sure why I have seen more loss than others, but I think there are other people that have lost more than me. I have not touched carbs since before the pre-surgery diet - including sugar. I do not go to the gym, but I do try to walk at least 30 mins at least 3 days a week or more. I adhere to my soft foods diet strictly. I have stopped weighing myself every single day, but do at least every other. I seem to go a couple days on a stall, then will lose one or two. The longest stall so far has been 4 days so far. My routine: get up between 6am and 8am (depending on the day). Have a small cup of coffee and use Fairlife Chocolate Milk as the creamer (about equal 50/50 coffee/milk). I take my first multivitamin with this. Not long after that I will have a Premier Protein drink. Then go about my morning routine. 9am is my first food. Usually homemade yogurt using Fairlife low fat milk as the base, and add a tbsp of raw honey to give it some flavor - or a spoon of mixed fruit jam. I will also have a stick or two of weight watchers cheese (colby jack or mozzarella). I usually have 2 calcium chews after my food. I take my second multi-vitamin 30 mins or so before lunch. Lunch is 11:45/noon - get some kind of protein and steamed veggies and beans if I can. I have a decent cafe at work with usually some good options. Worst case scenario I get a small scoop of egg salad and small scoop of chicken salad. Eat half for lunch, other half for dinner. 3pm have a snack and have my last 2 calcium chews. Usually a protein crunch bar, or a sugar free pudding made with Fairlife milk (protein helps for sure) and some cheese sticks. Dinner at 6pm, usually the same type of thing as lunch. My last multivitamin is sometime after that and before my 9pm snack of yogurt or pudding or cheese, or some combination of them. I do not count calories. I just make sure that the fat and carb numbers per serving fit my advice from NUT. For the meals - I make sure I take as close to 30 mins to eat as I can. The slower I eat, the more I can eat. If I get something I have been craving or tastes good, I tend to eat a little quicker and get uncomfortable after about 10 mins and have to give up the rest of my time. I have not eaten anything fried in almost 3 months. I stop drinking 30 mins before food, and do not drink again for 30 mins after. I primarily drink water. I usually will have one 20oz Vitarain (Costco brand version of Vitamin water zero that I like better than Vitamin water) per day. Sometimes I will have a Bai instead of Vitarain. The rest of my liquids from the day are all water and the Premier Protein I usually have early in the morning. I set my water goal as 70oz/day and want it to primarily be water instead of fake sugar substitute drinks.

    The Stall

For this week and the first half of next week it'll be: 5:45 am - protein shake (made with 1 c 1% milk) 9 am - 5 oz Greek yogurt 12 noon - 3/4 c pureed vegetable lentil soup 3 pm - string cheese 7 pm - baby food meat (chicken or turkey), 1 c 1% milk That's 78 grams of protein, and my goal is 60-76 per day. We'll see what soft foods brings when I start that a week from tomorrow.

    Salad Dressings & Low Carbing

You can try dressings that are yogurt or buttermilk based, rather than oil or mayo based - they are still low in carbohydrates but also naturally moderate in fats to keep the calories in check. They are typically around 2g of carbs and 3-4 on fats, yielding 50ish calories for a couple tablespoon serving. A lot more comfortable than 150 cal servings typical of full fat dressings. Bolthouse Farms has a line of yogurt based dressings in the refrigerator case, and Trader Joes has a few refrigerated dressings that fit in the moderate category, too. I'm carb and fat agnostic, so don't really care about those counts, but do want to get the most nutrition for my caloric buck - I'd rather spend my fat calories on the avocado in the salad than on just a bunch of oil.
  25. OMG, Fluffy, that is terrible! Plus, I selfishly want you in my month, LOL. My surgeon has my surgery and post op visits scheduled out for me through September --- yeah more dr appointments (said no one ever). Here's my update. I am immersed in physical therapy sessions to strengthen my knees and hips, which is going surprisingly well! In Feb, I branch into specific sessions designed for bariatric patients until surgery. Two weeks after surgery, I am back to physical therapy for another 4 weeks. I am still waiting for my CPAP machine -- its been almost 3 months, and I'm still alive despite having severe sleep apnea. Very frustrating. Finally, I got my pre-op diet requirements and I get to eat real food -- hallelujah!!! 3 meals with 3-4 ounces of protein, veges and salad dressing, 1 snack, and 3 fruits and/or yogurts a day. Or I can have protein shakes as a substitute for any or all of these. Hope everyone is doing well!
