All of you are doing wonderfully! Even when the scale's not moving, remember it's not going UP like it would have in preband days! You're probably getting NSVs (non-scale victories) that you're not even aware of yet. Have you tried your rings on lately? Been able to tie your shoes without passing out? Clothes getting looser? Don't look for the closest parking spot anymore? Your face doesn't get all red, and you're not huffing and puffing as much? Able to vacuum the house w/o having a heart attack? Shave your legs easier? (You'll think of many, many more!)

I am currently looking for a job (took an early retirement settlement at the end of December). It is certainly nicer to be looking at a size 10P, rather than a 24W. I had a job interview last Friday. I wore a beautifully tailored navy suit with a tiny shadow stripe of a paler blue. Under the jacket, I wore a blue cashmere sweater that picked up the color of the stripe. I had taken the suit skirt to the tailor and had it shortened (since I am 5'4" - this is a regular thing) to be the perfect just-below-the-knee length. If I was still morbidly obese, like a year ago, I would have either worn pants or left the skirt long - almost to my ankles. I had to buy a new pair of panty hose - in size B - the only ones I had in my lingerie drawer were size Q - and they made my legs look like elphant's legs with all the wrinkles. Cross your fingers or say a little prayer that I hear good news from the company I interviewed with!

Not Shopping In The Big Ladies Department
jen_1381 replied to helen098's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great NSV!! I've been doing a little shopping here and there. I was SHOCKED two weeks ago when I tried on an XL and it was too big. I had been in XXL for years. The XL almost draped off me. I went to a Lg. I haven't worn a plain Large since...junior high?! It feels GREAT! -
Nice NSV! These non-scale victories are really where it's at. I haven't really lost in a couple of few weeks. What does that mean? My pants are starting to get really loose. I have gone from 18 to 16 to 14 to 12 in the same kind of jeans. Now I am looking at 10? OMG! So who cares what the scale says..... it wil go down, I know the pattern now. First the loose pants or other NSV then the new number. You are doing great!

If I Can Just Help One Person, It Will All Be Worth It!
southernchic01 replied to exfatboy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you Thank you Thank you! This post was exactly what I needed to put things back in perspective. Such a great inspiration. I am 8 weeks out and have lost 30 lbs so far as well as dropped 2 pant sizes (probably more like 3). I have been stuck there for a little over a week and have started to get a little frustrated but I know deep down that these "plateaus" happen (I just feel like I should have lost more by now...but there I go again pushing myself). Reading your post reminds me that I did this for me and my husband and my only regret was that I didn't do it sooner. Sure it hasn't been a total cake walk, but all in all it hasn't been that bad either. I can bend over without having to hold my breath now and tieing my shoes is easier than it has been in years and there is actual distance between the steering wheel and my tummy....good NSV's. I have been wearing clothes I haven't worn since 2008..woohoo!! I am slowly learning that food was not the enemy...I was my own enemy. I now feel I have control and am gaining more and more confidence every day. This was good! -
Great Job! Great Nsv's too Keep up the good work. You are doing fantastic.. Your life is not over at 25..now it is just beginning..a new thinner more energetic you

I was brave enough to do..?
OKCPirate replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm digging the NSV - mountain climbing, took a fencing class, one lady is getting me into a dance class (which is terrifying to me). We shall see, I know I am LITERALLY lighter on my feet than I used to be. -
I crossed my legs today
motherof5 replied to JustWatchMe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ah man! It is such a wonderful accomplishment. I am not fully able to cross my legs but I am getting there. I semi-cross them everyday. My husband says that I think I am cute. He will never understand. But you guys do. Its not about being cute. To be able to sit like a woman and not with my legs COCKED wide open with my hand on my hip. Or with my hands under my belly. To look at a pic and see that, I hated it. I have never been able to cross my legs and always wanted to know how it feels. That is one of my NSV goals. Everyday I am going to keep trying until it's right. So, YOU GO GIRL! later losers! -
Hum, I say get fitted for a nice expensive new bra, splurge on urself and get 2 of the same. Hummmm NSV I'd rather do without, my pants falling around my hips with my undies hanging out, while walking across a business intersection... :faint:
-
I don't think its a bad NSV, actually a thinner back... hmmmm thats a great NSV.
-
Does anyone else have one of these? Mine is kind of embarassing and something only a fat girl can relate to. My bra keeps sliding up my back until it is right between my shoulders and my girls are looking... "depressed" This is so distressing for me. In Jr. High I had the same problem in reverse. My back was getting fatter and my bra would slide or roll up because it was just too small. I was just sure everyone noticed, they probably did. I know I should be overjoyed, now. This is happening because my back fat is no longer thick enough to hold the darn thing down. I am shrinking, slowly, but surely. I am going to accentuate the positive (and buy a new bra) while you all tell me your NSV's you would rather just skip.

I can't wait to get there. Your pictures are inspiring. I was in a tight 24W and now I am down to a slightly snug 20W. I cleaned out my closed of everything that was too big for me yesterday.... I took 10 STUFFED Walmart bags full of clothes to the local resale shop (I am required to wear business casual at work so I have to recouperate some of that money). I was amazed that clothes I was able to wear 2 weeks ago were falling off of me!! WoooHooo! BTW, I understand the concept of an NSV but what do the initials stand for?

Great NSV !! ....and thanks for the laugh

I was just celebrating this NSV two days ago! I was showering and looked down and thought. WOW, my toes! Haven't seen them in awhile...and they are so skinny! Great job!
-
Sometimes it is about the numbers. NSVs are great, but to be healthy I need the numbers to reflect that. So as of today (14 months out), I have lost over 110 pounds. I have less than 30 pounds to lose to reach goal. I have lost 41% of my original weight. And for me, the number that got to me the most today – 80%. I have lost 80% of my excess weight. So if you're starting out on this journey, don't get discouraged by the statistics. Do your own math. Know what you need to lose. Know the percentages. Understand what it's going to take to lose the weight. And then set a realistic time period for reaching your goal. Believe in yourself, more than you believe in the stats. Best wishes on your journey!

I am so excited! I went out to dinner with a large group of people and was COMPLETELY satisfied with a few bites of soup. It was VERY good and I enjoyed myself alot. Normally I would have been having the cheese sticks, and steak and a baked potato, and probably ordered desert because everyone else was having desert! My scales haven't moved for a week (and i'm on full liquid) but it still felt really great. Almost as if I know that even though I don't appear to be dropping weight I know it will come in time. The best part about it was that I did not feel as if I was missing out on anything! I was happy with what I had, before I feared that I would be looking at the steak thinking "why did I do this?"
