    Shopping=Depression

You know, it's funny, I actually kinda like shopping less now! Of course, it's exciting to continue to go down sizes but before I knew exactly where to shop and what to buy. Now I have to try on multiple sizes of everything. I am able to shop at a lot more stores now that I am down to an 18/20 (from a 28). However, I find that part of it overwhelming because there are too many options. I am an indecisive person and I don't know where exactly to shop when I am kind of "in the middle." I am still sticking with plus size stores, which is fine because I am comfortable with them but I need to seek out new brands and see what fits my body. But I am also still losing so I try not to go crazy. I can't buy the things I want because I try not to spend more than $15-20 on an item of clothing right now. It actually makes getting dressed harder. It takes me so long to figure out what I want to wear now and half the time it doesn't fit or showcases my saggy skin too much. No, I'm not getting depressed about it... the NSVs are making it worth it no matter what, it's just an interesting observation.
  3. NSV - Went to see my internist on Monday and he has taken me off of all my meds!!! Only taking my supplements...mult-vitamin, calcium and B12. So very happy!!
  4. I'm only 3 weeks out, but today was a day of reckoning for me in my closet. I've had clothes I bought a while back I had planned to get in to, but never did, we're talking 2-3 years ago time frame. I bought some really nice Ralph Lauren shirts, and some boot cut jeans, not the relaxed boot cut either, wife loves my butt in them. I also had an awesome Magellan button down shirt I got on clearance at Bass Pro, always wanted to wear the shirt on the lake fishing but could never fit in to it. Today I was curious. I started with the jeans. Size 42. I sat on the bed and slid one leg in, good so far, the other, and then all the way up. I have room in them. They're now belt pants, meaning if I don't wear a belt with them, folks will be getting a free show anytime I walk without pulling them up. I was stoked, wife was pleased as well. I do have a pair for 40's in the closet I may have to try on next week. To the shirts. I have a nice collection of dress shirts. My mom used to always buy me custom monogrammed taylored dress shirts when she was alive. Today I tried on 5 of them, only 1 fit. The 4 that don't look like Amur the tent builder made them, they're huge on me. I can fit myself, and my 9 year old in them with room. The one that fit was a 3XL dress shirt. Guys know, a 3XL dress shirt is like a regular 2XL as undoubtedly they run small. My favorite pin stripe dress shirt will have to go though, sadly. I loved that shirt. I'm looking forward to some more clothes fitting, but I'm afraid of wanting to hang on to the old clothes, at least maybe the shirts. They just have meaning and history in them. Perhaps I'm just too sentimental. The pinstripe shirt stays, no doubt. The others though, they may go to charity soon.

Starting over, 5 years after surgery

Oh Amy, I'm so sorry for your day. And yes I have been there alot. As I get older and arthritis sets in, I find I can predict the weather better then the local weather men. And that can make or break a day also. I find the mornings I get up and the knees don't want to do what the rest of the body does, it's easier to just give in and get a big bowl of something. We also started out with grey skies this morning. They said it would warm up to 48 degrees and the sun would be out in the afternoon. 6:30pm and the sun is just now starting to come out as it is setting. We decided to take our grandniece to the Plaza to go see the bunnies. Turned out we only found 7 of them. I was under the impression that there was going to be a whole lot more. But we had fun and took pictures at each bunny. I had a banana before we left and then about 12:30 we stopped at burger king to get some lunch for Abby. I passed and continued to drink my bottle of water. We got home about an hour later and I didn't know what to have so I got 2 slices of deli ham and a cheese stick. For dinner I had the rest of my protein. So another good day for me. The only thing that I shouldn't have had today was popcorn. We bought the movie Ice Age and popped the popcorn. I had just a little over a cup of it. I have a NSV. About 8 months ago I was having my check up for the dentist. He was wanting to know what was happening with my teeth. I told him that I had gotten into the habit of eating lifesavers in bed at night while I read. I like to chew on them. A tootsie pop sucker only last about a minute before I go right for the center. So while I read I go thru about 8-10 lifesavers and he told me I was to knock it off. That was about 8 months ago. The last four nights, I'm proud to say that I have gone to bed with out any life savers. It's been hard but I have made it thru so. I hope my dentist will be proud of me. I got a lot of walking in today and I'm feeling it this evening. Luckly my niece is busy watching a movie and I can have some time to do laundry and rest a little. I don't have muc on my agenda for tomorrow. Probably some more coloring in the coloring book and playing old maid. Maybe a few more movies. I really enjoy these times and love teaching her new things. But I just can't get over how an 8 ear old can wear me out so fast. Amy, I hope everything goes well at your appointment tomorrow and that you get a fil. My appointment is next week and I think I am ready for this to be over. But for the most part I will proabably follow up with the protein drinks at least five times a week. I also hope I get a fill. Back to the laundry now.
  8. Today I was very excited I got out of the shower and the towel touched around my body like it went all the way around and touched the other side LOL. AND I bent at the waist and tied my shoes ( I used to have to put my foot up on something to tie them or leave them so loose I could slip them on tied. I am very excited! This sums it up for me...............................

    So discouraged...

mrscdp, I don't respond to posts very often but I just wanted to let you know that I understand where you are coming from and I feel your pain with the whole "super slow loser" thing. I am 1 day shy of 8 weeks post op and I have only lost 28 lbs since surgery. I measure and count everything I eat, am drinking Water ALL day, and get all the exercise I can.....still, most days when I step on the scale there is no movement..and when there is (every few days or so), it's MAYBE 1/2 lb. I haven't experienced a long stall, per se, but after the first week I haven't experienced any great losses either. All that being said, I can't remember the last time (because there wasn't one) where I have lost 28 pounds in 2 months! I have days where I read about every one's losses on this forum and it is REALLY hard not to get sad or discouraged that my losses have been so much less than what I thought they would be at this point...but even though it's hard, I try to stay positive and be excited for every NSV, every 1/2 pound loss, and every day I reach my water/protein intake goals. Having bad/off days can be expected for everyone, and that's okay, but my advise would be to please try to think positively about the losses you've had and get excited about all the upcoming losses in your near future....focus on your daily goals and it WILL happen. Keep on keepin' on, girl....we can do this!!

    TSA agent questioned my ID

Love it when random NSV's happen!
  11. Tonight, I was just explaining to my mom what a NSV was. I have had several but my newest is being able to wear my high heels again and I'm now able to wear them all day long. Prior to surgery, I was known for carrying two pairs of shoes and swapping to flats after every business meeting. Now I plan to carry an extra pair of shoes but it's gonna be running shoes so I can exercise during lunch!
  12. I have been putting off joining a gym because you know that big lady off in the corner pouring sweat that is beet red and looks and sounds like she's having a heart attack...? That's me!! Lol. I need to get myself into slightly better shape before I 'publically sweat'. Good for you for kicking your scale to the curb! My biggest NSVs are shopping back through all of my old clothes in my closet and being able to wear things that I haven't in years!
  13. This is my three month update I was sleeved 12/26. I've only had one stall and I typically lose 4 - 5 pounds a week and I'm ok with that. I work out 5 times a week and try to work in a long walk at lunch each day. I'm down 3 sizes in tops and slacks. People are starting to notice and that feels so good. I have lots of NSV's. I can bend over and tie my shoes now. I shop in "misses" and the styles are really pretty. I can go up TWO flights of stairs and not be winded. I'm not embarrassed to travel anymore because I fit in the airplane seats and don't need a seat belt extender. I average around 800 calories a day. I can eat most anything but I stay away from breads, rice, Pasta and sweets I eat lots of chicken, fish and veggies. My "go to" meal is 1 scrambled egg with 2 ounces of sliced ham I have learned the hard way when I'm full and that means STOP eating! I have had an easy journey. I read the forums every day and have gotten many helpful hints I learn from the vets like OTR, Cheri and fiddle man My heart breaks for those who are struggling and I cried when I heard the recent news of a death. I wouldn't change anything and love what my sleeve has allowed me to do. So thanks to everyone who takes the time to post. It really helps people like me. Good luck everyone

    How do YOU define Success?

Excellent thread and congrats on your success! I personally gauge my own success by how healthy I am. When I was over 400 pounds I had obstructive sleep apnea, high blood pressue, borderline diabetic, and I needed a cane just get around my house. I had to use a motorized scooter just to do my grocery shopping and even that was exhausting. Now, not only is the sleep apnea gone but I don't even snore anymore. My blood pressure is normal, I am no longer borderline diabetic, and not only do I not need a cane anymore but I walk 2 miles a day with ease (and I seriously love my walks!) I've had some incredible NSV's too I flew on an airplane for the first time in 15 years and didn't need a seat belt extender I can cross my legs for the first time in 20 years I've gone from a size 46 (not kidding, I needed a 7x) to a size 18 (almost 16 now) I can do the splits again (lol I was in gymnastics when I was young) I can sit in booths at restaurants without worrying if I'll fit People who've known me for years don't recognize me when they see me. Literally. I'm very active in my kids lives now. I'm no longer a bystander watching it pass me by from the sofa. To me, these things are my success much more than what the scale says. These things reflect how I feel and that is what matters to me.

    NSV???

This may be a dumb question, but what does NSV stand for? I've seen it in different forums, and I can't quite figure it out.

    NSV???

We entertained over the weekend and A LOT of junk food ended up making its way to my kitchen. I snacked on some of it yesterday... and the effects showed up on the scale this morning. So, I went straight downstairs, dumped chips, dips, cookies, peanuts, etc. down the garbage disposal. Some (my dh included if he knew would call this waste, but is it really a waste if the food has absolutely no nutritional value?? I don't think so!!
  22. NSV's around on this post! Yea!Karen
