    Shame

Thanks for your thoughts, I know what you mean about those situations, they've all happened to me too and when they do at 5ft 10" I wish I could just disappear. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve to RYGB

I had a revision from sleeve to RNY and from my 10 day pre-op diet plus the first month after revision, I have lost 26 lbs. I will be 61 soon and am in One-derland to give you a little background. Everyone is different but that is my current story. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Surgery next week

Thanks for the info. 2 years post op is included. I'm spending the night which is a good thing to have a break from my family. My 19 year old daughter will be helping me when my husband is working.

What if my liver doens't shrink?

This is my fear too! I have been on the South Beach Phase 1 (my surgeon's choice) for my pre-op diet and I haven't lost a pound!! My surgery is 10/21 and I'm nervous my surgeon will not be pleased! I have been following it to a "T" and nothing, nada . . . this is why I want the Band!! Anyway, almost wish I was on the liquid diet instead!

    Pre-Ops Diets are evil!

My surgery was Nov 28th, I did a full 2 week liquid diet starting Thanksgiving week. 5 days that week I spent in Disneyland with family and friends. I did not cheat one bite on vacation. Came home and faced Thanksgiving with my family of 30. Took my protein shake along and no problem. I lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks before surgery. Had surgery 10 weeks ago this Wednesday. The first 2 weeks were painful, because once I got home I couldn't take Loritab it has 7% alcohol in it and I'm allergic to alcohol so I just went no meds cold turkey. The reason I'm elaborating is...if your having this much trouble with the pre op diet maybe your not ready. Your mind needs to be completely ready. If your falling apart at Dinner I'm worried about you. This is a major surgery, you are making a decision that is permanent. Do some serious soul searching, ok? You don't want to do something you regret. I have lost 47 pounds, and feel wonderful! Everyone I run into tells me how great I look. It's amazing! My goal is 100 pounds and in 10 weeks I'm just about half way there. Please make sure your ready to make this life changing decision. If dinner time is hard, Go for a walk and stay busy. My husband has been so helpful. He took over the cooking for the kids and himself. So I don't even have to think about it. I just grab my shake and leave the room. If something like that is an option for you try it. I wish all of you pre op people luck! Stay strong it's so worth it!????
  7. I'm 10 week after surgery and having problems staying awake after eating dinner. I'm fine in the morning, and whatever I can eat for lunch mostly I'm still having protein drinks, but in the evening when I try to eat small bites of chicken, cheese etc I go to sleep. I'm NOT eating too much carbs under 10 to 20 a day and not high amounts of fat. Anyone else dealing with this? I also don't feel like eating most of the time. I'm running into having a bite or two of chicken or tuna and giving the rest to my dogs. I just can't eat the 2-4 ounces of it.

    Lowest point before surgery

Mine was Being a single Dad and raising two teanagers while sitting in my office at 10:00 am and fell over out of the chair, Unable to get a breath and dizzy as hell, My office staff got me into a truck and to the ER that is only about a mile away. I had been on a rough time losing a good friend who died in his sleep, and stress big time. It took a healthy dose of morphine to calm me down, 4 Nitro Hits to get my heart to slow down, and bags of IV fluid to get me Hydrated. 40 years of playing hard, Drinking and Stress led to 99% blockage of the widow maker! Off To the NCH Cardio Ward and in 5 days felt 25 again, But i got way to close to 400 pounds and it took a good look in the mirror and one simple question Keep Playing hard and who is going to finish raising these kids? or get healthy! Never been healthy or happier

    August 10Th Sleever!

I was on a 7 days liquid diet! Go for sugar free jello and popcicles! They saved me and you can have as much as you want!!! I doubled up on my protein shakes and that helped me keep the "full" feeling as well. The first couple of days are pretty tough. Check with your doctor about being able to drink a cup of coffee to keep the headaches away. My nutritionist also recommended Tomato Juice to help. I ended up losing 19 pounds before surgery and I'm down 29 pounds total since then (just 2 weeks and 2 days now). Good luck! You can do this!!!!!!!!

    Pre-Ops Diets are evil!

And this is exactly why we need the sleeve. I'm not sure when I will start the pre-op diet. My surgery is on the 21st. The surgeon did say a 7-10 day pre-op diet for me. It makes me want to pig out now before I can no longer do it Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

    Election Results...

I love these election results! Congrats on your weight loss. However, if I were you, I'd really add those 10 extra lbs on because they do count. You have lost at least 120 ls! Keep it up!
  12. So I am 15 months out & lately I have been feeling like a failure. I have gone from 260 (Jan 2011) to 142 (now)... but the last month & a half I have been doing terrible. Before I was running 3-4 times a week & really sticking to the high protein, low-carb diet. After an unpleasant break up with my boyfriend, the running stopped & I have been eating crap (M&Ms, doughnuts, etc) I feel gross, bloated & fat. I've even been avoiding this site because I feel guilty about it. I am about 20 pounds from my goal & I consider it a miracle that I haven't gained 10 pounds with all the junk I've consumed. I've decided I need to do the Atkins induction for a couple weeks to get myself back on track. It really makes me realize that like any addiction, I will have to fight not to revert to old habits & fall off the wagon, so to speak. I know that I can do this. I just need to dig in & find that inner strength.
  13. My surgeon appt at Kaiser is next Wednesday 12/10! It was scheduled for 1/8 but I called to see if they had any cancellation appts and they did. YAY! Does anyone have any good tips or expectations for me? I'm very excited, but nervous! Thanks!
  14. Hi everybody! My VSG surgery was last Wednesday Feb 4. I used Dr. alejandro lopez with Specialized Bariatrics at Vida Hospital. Walking into the hospital was like walking into an Architectural Digest photo shoot! Absolutely beautiful, state of the art. My husband and I were treated so very well there by everyone we came into contact with. Every step was discussed, explained until we no longer had any questions. The surgery went very well, recovery was painful but tolerable. I was up and walking the next morning, trolling the halls. I was in a private room Thursday morning and it was super fancy! Silk quilts, infinity marble sinks. But super low toilets. They seriously need to get taller toilets! OK, so I start drinking, expecting the worse, and wow, no issues! I can drink Water, broth, gatorade, anything I want! And plenty of it! On Thursday I guess I slept a little too much and didn't get enough Fluid in and got a horrible headache. I sipped-sipped-sipped it away! No drugs needed, just more hydration. Released from hospital Friday, started running low grade fever Friday night. Sandra, our coordinator, came to the hotel, took my temp and called the Dr. He spoke with my husband on the phone and said this was not out of the ordinary but he wanted to stay on top of it. Sandra went out and picked up a prescription for me and brought it back to the hotel (that always happens in the US, right?!?). I ran a little temp on and off Fri-Sun. Never higher than 100. Fever free since Sunday evening. Trip home was easy-peasy. Drinking plenty of Protein shakes, broth, water, ION drinks, and doing great! I do get weary in the afternoons, so I sit down for a while, sometimes nap. I have lost 10 pounds in this past week. I would do this all over again in a hot minute! I am eternally grateful to the veterans on this site like @ who guided me through this entire experience and kept me from freaking out. The only way I can repay their generosity is to pay it forward! I love being on the LOSERS BENCH!

    Question About Liquids

I am Day 10 post-op. I get in 64 fl oz of Water per day, but it takes me all day to do it. I am noticing that I can sip more at a time now -- verging on what I would call a gulp. It takes me 2 hours to drink a premier Protein shake. I am seeing improvements every day, so I feel pretty good about where I am right now. I hope this helps. Good luck!
  16. If you're like me, you like to keep your Protein shakes interesting...my kitchen looks like a coffee shop with all the Toranis! 18. I am 10 days post op and I am having bad pains in my left, should/neck area. It started yesterday and I have taken Gas-x strips. Does this go away when I am able to eat solids? I have been on mushes for a few days and my stomach hurts from gas and when I eat, well it does not last long lol. Please let me know! Thanks!
  19. Hi, Well I just wanted to tell you the best advice I got was sip sip sip and walk walk walk.....The gas x strips did not help me at all.......ok, now.... The other side to this is that I am almost 10 months from being banded and I know this is going to sound STRANGE, but when I get hungry my left shoulder will start hurting. I dont have "tummy" hunger any more, my shoulder always lets me know. The cure to this is that I drink something warm and it seems to go away or I will nibble on something. This usually tends to happen between 3 and 6 in the afternoon. If it gets really bad around the 6 oclock dinner time, I will have to eat to get it to stop hurting.... Good luck! Carrie

    17 more lbs.....

I have between 6 and 9 lbs to lose. Depends on the day and the fluid retention. The last 10 lbs are so slow.
  21. Having been diagnosed with MS on 9th November, I have had many ups and downs for the last 2 months. Anyway to give you an outline/timeline May time, had back pain/arm pain, trips to physio and accupuncture and 4 weekls later gone.... August, symptoms return and get worse and worse, niggly back pain in shoulderblade region to the left and raditing down arm which is very very painful, having to hand my arm to my side to try to relieve the pain and no matter where I put it it still hurt. Saw physio once a week and accu once aweek. Went to hydrotherapy, hot room, sauna, spa in an attemp to relieve the pain. late Oct, finally had enough and went to see doc(friday), he referred me for bone scan and CT scan, had CT scan monday and bone scan Friday, both test picked up results next day and both normal, bugger bugger bugger. Funny how you wish for something to be wrong just so you can have an answer to your problem. Back to doc on Monday who at least did not stand on his laurels and brush me off (even though he is at lest 70), said next step is MRI but needs a neuro to refer. OK I rang the specilist and no appts for at least 6 weeks. Well it just so happens that I work at the hospital in the cardiology dept alongside neuro dept and had a quiet word with receptionist who had a quiet word with neuro (tues) and he agreed to refer me without consult. Wasnt in till Thurs so in I went and thanked him big time for doing this and how frustrated I was and mentioned that my left side of my face was numbish. Oh he said that isnt right and off he popped to the MRI dept and organised a MRI for Tues for me and free too..... chuffed to pieces off home I went and shock of shock overnight my feet went numb and going to work the next day I fell up the steps. Panicking I was whisked to A&E under same neuro and one brain scan/upper spine scan it was diagnosed. 5 days in hospital on IV steriods and 6 weeks of oral steriods later (and no weight gain) the pain in my arm and back is back, it took 4 painkillers to even stop the pain this morning and they are the ones with codine, 2 neuro plus and 2 paracetamol codenine. I cant fault my treatment, from doc to diagnosis 10 days including all tests and results. Had a full spine MRI 2 weeks later which showed 5 leisions on the spine from top to bottom. I am so over the pain. I popped into see neuro (perk of working next door) and he said that my upper leison was extremly large and could take a few months to get over. If you hear a rattling noise its just me popping more pills. Jo

    First Wod Since Surgery!

the apex regions of my spine (mid back and neck) are still a daily ache and burn sensation. However, one PT exercise I do seems to help a lot and is improving my workouts: I lay on a foam roller so it is vertical along the t-spine and lift 5-10 lb hand weights from waist to above head while mentally keeping my entire back against the roller and relaxed. One of the major issues I have had over the year has been tensing up muscles too much in my back due to the spine issues. This PT exercise is forcing the right lifting muscles to engage and the wrong lifting muscles to relax while keeping my spine in a stabilized and organized position. Kelley Starrett would be proud. I am a big fan of his mobility site (mobilityWOD) and his book (supple leopard). The book was above me in my understanding when I first got it 6 months ago, but since I have starting learning about proper movements to protect my back in PT, the book content has really started to click. It makes so much sense and is very practical in becoming a better athlete and avoiding injury. Keep up the exercise as well as you are able to. It may be hard and unrealistic now to WOD as much as you would like, but will be much easier and enjoyable by month 5 or 6 after you have lost a good deal of weight ( I dropped 130 lb by beginning of month 5 and 180 by month 7 to reach goal). Starting in month 5 was the beginning of my running. Starting in month 7 was the beginning of my cross fit with the lead trainer at my box. I spent 8 months with her until switching to open gym in September 2013. Now I WOD 5 days a week, sometimes 6. I kill the WOD as much as I am able to while keeping good form and also not compromising myself. More then 3 days of WOD in a row puts my immune system at risk and generally starts to break me. No mor 5 days in a row. Sometimes I do 4 in a row, but general rule for me is 3 on, 1 off, 2 in, 1 off so that I can do partner WOD on Saturday. Today I am going to break my rule and do a Tabata workout at home because, well, I have my mind set on it. Neither running or cross fit would have been possible if I was fighting too much body weight. Once I started running, there was no turning back. It was like I was born to run. 5k and 10k in 20 min and 50 min became common as I honed the skill. As you know, I do not run for endurance any longer by choice, but there were a couple months where I was running 20-25 miles a week. Before month 5, my exercise was mostly walking and some elliptical. Nothing to write home about. A few times a week on the elliptical. I did keep up my daily walks with my dog. Here is what really helped before month 5: I followed the low carb, high Protein, high Water to the best of my ability, not compromising. Not once. Be as single minded as you can be to not lose focus on losing weight so you can get into the exercise in the way you really want to by month 5 or 6. And then you just rocket from there. Nothing can stop you.
  23. Hi all....I am scheduled for my orientation meeting on 2/7 and am very excited....however, I do have some questions. My BMI is 36 so I am not at the "40" mark, so what constitutes a "comorbidity"? I have dangerously high Cholesterol and Triglycerides (336 and over 900, respectively, altho I think the high triglyceride level was due to my latest failed Atkins attempt).:frown: I have gastric reflux and possibly sleep apnea as I wake up 2-3 morning per week with a migraine (I am sure I'll be scheduled for a sleep study). Also my back, knees and feet hurt so bad I can barely get around in the morning and am having a hard time staying on my feet for long hours at work. So what ARE the comorbidities? And another question.....if my BMI is 36 now and Dr Gluck puts me on the required 10 day liquid pre-op diet and I lose weight with that will I still be eligible for surgery if my BMI drops below 35? Or does qualification only depend on the BMI at time of referral? Oh, I have so many questions! I sure hope I qualify.....I have been down every blasted diet road there is and want to be around to see my daughter grow up, but I am scared because I am 46 and 50 seems to be the magic number for heart attacks in my family.......

    Driving after surgery

I started at 10 days. It was still really painful to turn and look behind to back up, but other than that, no issues. You do have to be off all your narcotics for at least 24 hours though.
