    November 2020 sleevers

Any fellow Nov sleevers care to share their pre-op diet? My surgeon just told me to lose 10 lbs before surgery, however in the paperwork it says 10-14 days clear liquid diet with foods, drinks and sample menus. I’ve got an upcoming appointment with the dietician where I’m sure I’ll get clarity. I was just wondering what everyone else was doing, or if you even knew.
  2. If you haven't talked to your surgeon's office in a while, it might be a good idea to give them a call to let them know you're almost done with your 6-month weight loss and ask what you need to do to schedule the endo and psych eval. A lot of bariatric practices have a "patient navigator" who helps to coordinate that stuff. I had some concerns about my insurance coverage (mainly because I hadn't been to a doctor in almost 10 years, so I didn't have a documented weight history), but the surgeon was very familiar with my insurance requirements and said, "Don't worry, we'll get you covered," and they did! They do this for a living, so most of them are pretty good at dealing with insurance companies.

    Thankful Thread - 10/5 - 10/11

Hi everyone! Hope you had a good week and that this one will be amazing too! This week, I am thankful to be on vacation for 4 days in one of my favorite places. I’m thankful for the weight I have lost making it so I don’t get winded and have to stop repeatedly while carrying my luggage. I’m thankful that I’ll be able to keep very close to on plan while on vacation thanks to careful preparation. And I am so thankful to be out of the office and away from that stress until Friday. How about you?

I Lost My WLS Super Powers

this seems to be very common, actually. Most people have a 10-20 lb gain after hitting their lowest weight, and I was prepared for that - but even after that, you have to really start monitoring yourself or you're very likely to gain even more. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I'll have to diet for the rest of my life or I'm going to put on a bunch of weight. Luckily I figured that out before much damage was done, since it's hard as heck to lose weight now 😞

    Scale

I am a scale wh*re..... I weigh myself every day and have pretty much since my Band sx in 2009. I am a person that the scale keeps me in check. 2-3lbs i can handle... but once i hit the 5lbs gain i find its hard for me to get the scale to go back.... so when i see it go up... i look at what i did that week and adjust my eating habits. I feel the scale helped me only gain 30lbs after my band removal. If you can not stress over weight loss stalls..... a scale is a great way to keep you in check. I have been sitting at 120-122 for months.... I reached my year sleeve 8/28/2019

    Pre-op

Hi! This is my first post here. I am 65 and 275 pounds. I have finally made the decision to change my lifestyle after being morbidly obese for 10 years. I have chronic pain from spondylitis and nerve damage. I know the weight is a big part of the pain I am living with. I have gained 20 pounds since the pandemic started because I am alone at home, generally on the couch. I look forward to being able to walk without a limp when I get lighter. I am a little nervous about doing this but I want to live a longer and fuller life.

    Sleeved in August 2011

I am almost 10 years since the day I was sleeved. I weighed 278 pounds when I had my surgery. I got down to 173 pounds and now I am back up to 220 pounds. I am feeling like a failure. I am terrified of putting all of the weight back on. How are others doing this better? How can I get some of this weight back off? If you are continuing to lose weight what are your daily macros? I’m not even sure if I have restriction anymore. Is there a way to find out? I started drinking sodas probably a year after I was sleeved. Have I ruined it for good? Is anyone else in the same boat? I’d love to have some help and support.

    Feeling down lately

I feel you. I’m about 50 lbs down and still in the same clothing as I started with. I take pictures every 10 lbs I’ve lost, and in the first couple pictures it doesn’t look like I’ve lost that much. But as I’ve lost more weight each lb lost is a greater ratio of your current weight, and the sizes should start dropping quickly. Especially once you get into straight sizes, which seem to be much closer together than say a 3x vs 2x.

    Preop weight loss-too much?

Yes indeed. I copied and pasted this from another thread 9/10.I’ll follow up with more details later. I never did the math on this before. 8/18-8/19 I lost an average of 6.1 pounds per month. I had surgery at 204 and I lost s.l.o.w. I think one month I only lost 2-3 pounds eating less than 900 calories a day. I did lose it though!

    VSG scheduled for 10/26! Outpatient.

    Gastric Sleeve - Outpatient

I am having my VSG on 10/26 and it is outpatient. On one hand, I’m happy to get home and another, I’d feel better having at least one night for observation — but my surgeon doesn’t do that.

    November 2020 sleevers

Hi, fellow November sleevers... Was just wondering what all of your pre-op diets look like. Mine is 10 days, and thankfully has some food... Not nearly enough [emoji1787] but some is better than none, I guess. I start on the 24th, I think, and have told those who know what I'm doing (I'm keeping it somewhat on the down low for various reasons) that I may not be the most pleasant person to be around. Anyone go into surgery alone?

I was alone as well due to the hospitals Covid-19 policy. The staff was great, and I kept my phone until I was wheeled in to surgery. Like others have said, too coped up and sleepy to want anyone around me. My surgery was at 10am, and the first time I even thought about my phone was after 6pm. I sent a quick text to my family and went back to sleep. On day two my focus was sipping and walking, no time to miss family. Again, the nurses are amazing, I never felt lonely.

    Panniculectomy

Update: During my pre-op appt my surgeon decided it would be best for me have a tummy tuck or liposuction to get all of my target areas. So I went with abdominal liposuction and bilateral flanks. Surgery was 2 days ago. That only included 6 incisions vs. hip-bone to hip-bone. It was an overnight stay. Pretty painful. Surgery date was 10/1. I’m wrapped in tons of bandages so I can’t see the outcome just yet. He removed 3750 ccs of fat. Praying I love the outcome.
  17. I'm currently in the hospital because I believe I had some food stuck in my pouch. Yesterday at work I had leftovers from the previous nights dinner for lunch. Now, it went down just fine the night before. I ate about 4 small pieces of the grilled chicken, maybe 2 oz total, and from that point on I had nothing but excruciating pain and I would vomit every time I tried to drink so much as a sip of water. I only ever vomited a handful of times in the entire year since surgery it was always a one and done deal, I tolerated everything very well and never had strictures or anything like that so this was a bit ridiculous. I ended up leaving work (as an ER nurse) to go to the ER of the hospital I had my surgery done at and got a cocktail that relaxed things enough to let whatever was stuck pass. They admitted me because I was dehydrated and I still had residual pain in my upper belly. X-rays all showed that all pathways were clear so there isn't anything stuck anywhere else. I'm still here though because it hurts to drink more than 1-2tbsp at a time and I'm scared to try more because it hurts. Hopefully I can go home tomorrow, but while I'm here it's back to clear liquids. 😥 I have no clue what happened for things to get stuck but it felt awful. Never imagined I'd be here with these issues over a year out (August 2019 was my surgery).

    Weight watchers post vsg

@shortsleevedTWW doesn’t tell you how much you have to eat. They tell you the max you should eat. You get a set number of points. I use my WLS guidelines to determine how much to eat. I get 23 daily points on WW but because I eat such small portions and so many WW “zero” point foods I rarely go over 10 in a day. The things I have on a regular basis, protein shake = 2 points, nonfat Greek yogurt = 0 points, chicken breast= 0. The amt of beef I can eat is usually only 3-4 points per serving. I have plenty of points left over at the end of the day and eat plenty of food.

    Help

I had a sleeve at 54 years old, 10 years ago. I am now 64 !! BEST THING I EVER DID !!! I did not do it for vanity or to look better or to wear a smaller size. I did it for my health and to live longer, and be able to be more active. I started my journey at 320 plus pounds. I had surgery at about 300 pounds. I now weigh 174. No, I did not get to my doctor's initial goal, but he later told me he never expected me to get there either. At my age adjusted BMI I am considered overweight. I started 10 years ago wearing size 28 plus. I now wear petite 16 or a regular 14. But I like the fit of a petite 16 better. I have saggy baggy skin, and my hair is thinner than it was, but who knows if that is my age and or the hysterectomy or the weight loss. I am happy, healthy and active. I work full time, take care of my home, raise chickens for organic eggs, I have an organic vegetable garden. I walk, I take care of my chickens, muck out the coops, and swim when the weather is nice and the pool is warm. I do more than most of my age group, and I do not regret having weight loss surgery for even a second. My best advice is to research well. I chose a sleeve because I have asthma and end up on oral steroids at least yearly. I needed to be able to take certain medications, and a bypass would not have allowed me to do that. My pulmonologist recommended that I have whatever surgery would allow me to treat my lung disease as recommended. Again, for me, I am happy !!!
  20. Hi Bandsters, I had my last band fill in November 2019. It put me up to 7.5 in a 10cc band. I was fine with that fill for a few months, but then COVID hit. During the lockdown my band became unbearably tight and I got acid reflux for the first time in March and was unable to eat or drink anything. My surgeon managed me through that episode, but I still wasn't very healthy. Since then, I continued to have difficulty eating, but had the added complications of blood pressure drops, causing me to become dizzy. I even fell to the ground on some occasions. I was feeling so miserable that I finally went to my doctor last week and asked to have some fluid removed. I am now down to a 7cc fill, but I am now uncontrollably hungry. I've actually forgotten what it is like to feel this way. I'm trying my best to not eat everything in sight, but no amount of protein is bringing my hunger under control. I have gained 7 pounds in 5 days. I need to get a handle on this. Have any of you encountered this on your journeys? What did you do to keep your hunger in check?

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

My BMI was 31 it is now 30. I had the lap-band for 12 years and stayed at my goal weight nearly the entire time. Lap band was super effective. Unfortunately it slipped and it was removed. Fast forward a year and 40 lb. gain, I had gastric sleeve surgery beginning of June. It's October 1 and I've lost 19 lbs. 10 lbs. was lost in the 1st week. Even with proper diet and steady exercise, don't expect the weight to fly off.
  25. Try doing more exercise and cutting carbs count your calorie intake and take your protein I had my surgery March 2018 with the pandemic I lost track and gained 20 lbs was drinking too much eating things I’m not suppose to and pushing my eating limits, 2 month ago I decided it was enough bought I bike started doing exercise cut the carbs started counting calories I’m between 800 and 1200 per day, substituted dinner for protein shake and happy to say that after 2 months I’ve lost 25 pounds I’m doing around 120 to 150 miles a week on the bike I feel awesome and back on track I refuse to be part of the percentage that gains the weight now I’m back to only eating 5 oz of food and feeling full before this reset I was eating 8-10 oz talk to your Doctor see what works for you
