Just starting have questions.
rolosmom7 replied to hotmamma1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My clinic told me. I worked with my pcp on the DASH diet, it is helpful for blood pressure but wouldn't necessarily make me gain weight. Think south beach with no salt (grain rice, grain Pasta, fish/chicken). My weight gain is also heavily from rx meds. So it's impossible to get off without serious intervention ie surgery. -
WEIGHT GAIN? 6 MONTH NUT VISITS.
pleezeSleeve posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone gained weight during nutrition visits? I think I effed up. I gained 10lbs between my consult with the surgeon and second nutrition visit. I explained to her the very devastating loss of a family member... and also how I wanted to kinda .. "eat my last junk foods". since then, I have lost 6lbs. I plan on being down even more when we meet again in 2 weeks. Basically I'm terrified the insurance will deny me because of the 10lb gain- even though I lost it back and more. Has anyone been through this or heard of this? What happened? thanks! -
I had my first dietician appointment 2 weeks ago and my first psych appointment yesterday. I see both of them again in 2 weeks and they both want me to have made a lot of the dietary changes that I'll need to make post-op by then. I was doing pretty well with weighing out portions, not drinking for 30 minutes after meals, eating foods in the correct order, chewing each bite thoroughly, setting my fork down between bites, etc. for the first week after seeing the dietician. But I didn't lose a single pound that week and it just seemed pointless. So then I had a week-long food funeral, and it was pretty bad. Part of the problem is that I accidentally lost 4 pounds in the week between getting my paperwork in and seeing the surgeon and dietician for the first time. It pisses me off because I wanted to go in at my heaviest and not have my BMI barely be high enough. And now I'm supposed to lose about 10 pounds in the next couple of weeks and it seems impossible. It is more likely that I'll gain that 4 pounds back again, and my surgeon said absolutely no weight gain is allowed. I'm just feeling discouraged right now. I decided to go back to Protein smoothies today instead of trying to allow myself reasonable amounts of real food. Does anyone else feel like they can do a really restrictive diet without too much trouble, but really struggle with trying to eat normally but moderately? I feel like if I have any sweets or anything made with white flour, I simply can't stop eating it. Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App

5 Months Out, From June Till Now!
stellabug321 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Needing some inspiration today! I feel horrible, I've gained 5lbs... I've been in physio for the last month as I was in a work accident before my weight loss journey began.. I've been here for a month doing physio 5 days a week and only get to get home on the weekends! They only thing I've noticed besides the weight gain is I have bicep that I've never seen before! I live in a hotel for the week and go home the weekends, I try and eat as healthy as I can I buy a roasted chicken and the bagged salad, I know not the greatest but at least it's better then restaurant food! I also have a smoothie for Breakfast everyday I'm here, 1 cup frozen mixed berries, 100 calorie single serving of Greek yogurt, a scoop of body by vi and a scoop whey Protein powder and water! I indulge in some chocolate everyone and then nothing over the top now, and just recently started drinking tea and hot chocolate for a sweet fix! I don't eat potatoes, Pasta or bread! I do how ever eat long grain rice 2 tbs at the most very rare though! Is Water seriously the issue here? I think I've answered my own question I think I only get about 1800 mls a day and obviously that is not enough! Any advice any help would be appreciated as I don't want this to be it the 250"s my goal is too loses anywhere to 80-110 more pounds! Thanks guys... I go home Friday for good and start slowly back to work as a nurse, agh so stressed???? -
Hyperhidrosis reduced post-op?
Berry78 replied to wjgo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
https://www.sweathelp.org/hyperhidrosis-treatments/treatment-overview.html Since weight gain didn't cause the problem, weight loss can't be expected to fix it. But if additional weight has piled normal sweating on top of the hyperhidrosis, then at least weight loss could help that aspect. Good luck! -
I have had hyperhidrosis (auxiliary) since highschool, even when I was fit and on swim teams. I think the condition has at least worsened since then. But being a rare disorder, few people can say if getting older (now 45) is a factor. I know that weight gain did not cause it. Many sources will say being overweight is a factor, but it was not for me through high school and college. But has anyone experienced the condition being reduced after the surgery? Health Alliance approval questions
PolkSDA replied to manimal3497's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleeve gastrectomy on Monday and had to go through the approval process with Health Alliance. My hospital handled all of the paperwork and there were never any hitches or questions. Then again my hospital has a very good rep, so it may be as much a question of how thorough and diligent the personnel are at your hospital, as opposed to Health Alliance itself. When I first embarked on this journey late last year my doc told me up front that Health Alliance will want to see long-term weight loss during the pre-surgery program and no major weight gain at any point. They never gave me any specific numbers. I was originally scheduled for surgery in April, but of course that had to be canceled due to COVID. When elective surgeries opened back up in June, I did not have to get re-approved; everything was still in place. So no sage words of wisdom, just a singular data point. -
Pre-Op liquid diet question
VegasGrace replied to MsHansy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquid. But what you are wanting is a diet...not just liquids. Grapefruit juice w/ green Beans and broiled chicken...that's what alot of people use to get weight off...QUICK. I wouldn't worry about the weight gain a bit. So what you gained 6 pounds during your grandmother's passing. That's not going to stop a doc from doing surgery. -
Have anyone got rejected on surgery day
skinny_minnie_wannabe replied to sweetmisery86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can say that I highly doubt that this will happen. I understand being denied for smoking or drinking but weight gain, come on? We are encouraged to lose weight before surgery. We are motivated by these certain "beliefs." But I would say that it is extremely rare for that to occur. If it did, I'm sure it would be for a HUGE amount of weight. I actually gained a ton before my final surgery consult. The surgeon said nothing. If you follow your fast (if you have one) as close as possible, you will be fine. The fast is for your benefit and it will allow the surgeon to maneuver easily around your liver. Also, if you are a female you may gain weight because of your cycle. It is not totally out of the realm. This happens to many people. It is mostly anxiety. I was worried about literally EVERYTHING and none of it happened. You will be just fine. Worry is normal. This is a big deal! You can do this. Stay as focused as possible. Good luck! -
So my insurance wants 6 months of medically managed weight loss. Keyword there is "loss". Thursday I go in for my 4-month check-in, and the papers that get filled out each visit will continue to show a weight gain. It was only about 2 or 3 weeks ago that I was put on a dosage of Metformin that doesn't make me sick, and I've lost about 3 pounds since then. Yet my forms will still show a 17 pound gain from when I first started my journey (Started at 360, ballooned up to 380, then got on Metformin and now at 377). I know I still have 2 months still to lose weight, but I'm afraid insurance is going to deny me and all my work will have gone to waste again, all because I wasn't back on Metformin until now.

Final Pre Op Appointment Tomorrow
KatFight replied to PeachesCat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. All surgeons have different expectations with weight gain/loss. Weight gain was a problem for me if I went over my consultation weight by even 1 lb. If that happened, I would not be scheduled for surgery and my process would end. I understand the food funerals. lol I had 4 and my husband was getting a little worried that I had gone off the plan completely. He didn't understand why it was important for me to have my last meals. (That was frustrating.) Good luck. I think you'll be ok as long as you didn't go over consultation weight. -
Will the dietitian clear and approve to move forward if I have gained weight? details below... pardon the lack of punctuation, I am on my phone I have my final visit with the dietitian this week. I was doing so well until the mental health professionals threw a wretch and sent me way off track (long story short, I was a victim of childhood abuse and sexual abuse while in college... it pretty much was a how can someone go threw this and hold their life together and said I couldn’t do the surgery because I “needed” there help because well how Can I live when something like that happened) I stood up for myself and yes, the things I have been threw was terrible but I am a stronger being because of it. After the assault, I gained a lot of weight, by a lot I mean like 70lbs in a few short months... then continually climbed due to the depression that had set in. Wanting to have the surgery in the first place is to take back that part of my life. In doing so, I went off track and back to depression. My view was that since I was abused, that is the only thing I will ever be so why bother mentality... anyone had a similar situation?

Someday I will, again, be anoyed at people who say this, but for today...
Stevehud replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yeah, seriously dieting to gain weigh is like shooting yourself with a bow and arrow, not likely to happen. If you wantthe no fail weight gain? drink a few full flavored beers especially darks. those will get you there in no time ohand to help those go down, try Fettuccini alfredo. youll get there in no time. -
I agree with both comments...romance her, take it back to how you got her in the first place but most importantly, talk to her as pdx stated. Weight gain for us women is a major buzz KILL when sex is involved and her being tired doesn't help matters either. But make time for a date night and let her know up front that ud like to talk to her about you guys relationship and how you both can pitch in to make it stronger. Although I'm sure she's proud of your weight changes, I'm also sure that it may be a little upsetting to her since u stated that she's gained weight. Even though WE are excited about our journeys, it may take our loved ones longer to understand what our bodies are going threw, heck, we r still learning, so be considerate and patient concerning that. But like I said, make time to talk to her and with her and don't make it about you feeling like a teenage boy again bc no woman wants a boy for a husband. God bless u both. Dee Dee

Had initial appointment today!
livvsmum replied to LBS15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! That will be one busy appointment! As far as reading negative things, don't let that scare you. I remember reading the "weight gained since having surgery" thread on this site before having my sleeve surgery and nearly backing out of it because of it. If you take the opportunity this surgery gives you, follow the plan, and do the emotional and physical work you need to do, you will do great! If you want to read some positives instead of negatives, feel free to check out my blog in my siggy. I've tried to share the good, the bad, and the beautiful from my first appointment on. Good luck to you on your journey! -
Do you still feel the urge to binge eat?
danelle235 replied to danelle235's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is helpful, as you said to, come to terms with. Binging is dangerous and obviously leads to weight gain. I just need to find ways to cope and resist the urge post-sleeve so that I don't to real damage as well. Thank you for sharing the truth. -
Weight Loss and Siatica
Vegasurvivor replied to California joe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had that pain twice in my life. Once from weight gain. Second time from stress. First time from added weight from pregnancy. Went away after I lost the preg weight gain. 2nd time I was very stressed. Work and home. Missed my parents, had not seen them in four years. They came to visit and I was very happy to see them. The pain disappeared the 2nd day of their stay. I would bet that you have an excellent chance of the pain going away after your weight loss. Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk -
I have finished my 3 month multi discipline needed for insurance. I didn't want to quit during that because I couldn't afford the weight gain that I always get when I quit. I am starting vacation next week so I figured it would be the ideal time to quit. I am also going to give up my pepsi which is my true love in life. Wish me luck and hopefully I won't bite anyone's head off this week. Lol

I'm just curious & don't mean to sound selfish but I don't have any kids and all my friends kept telling me that I should have had a kid before I had bypass (04/03) but I didn't & I felt that I'm not ready for kid(s) I'm 27 & still it's like I kind of question should I have had kids or a child before getting the surgery... because of future weight gain when I decide too in which it's not on my mind the way the economy is and I'm still trying to reach other goals then weight lost but I guess I'm saying I don't want the weight gain but then again having a child or kids is not my concern either but did I do it wrong?

Has anyone experienced weight gain after Starting Mushies?
-
Hi, my surgeon has recommended that I have the Fobi ring fitted when I have the sleeve operation, to help prevent future weight gain. Has anyone had experience with this???
-
Now I wait. I have UPMC for You, which is medical assistance here in Pa. I had some issues with weight gain during the 6 month diet because of a severely abnormal TSH level, so I'm a little concerned about approval. Hopefully the letter from my PCP helps that. Fingers crossed. And toes. And eyes..........
