Hi guys. How do I mix GENEPRO into hot decaf coffee without it being grainy? Also can I ditch the shakes since I use genepro now? I really don't like the shakes anymore. Sent from my Nexus 5 using the BariatricPal App

To Protein Drink or Not To Protein Drink
860971 replied to anwen_ut's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I mix 1 tablespoon Genepro protein powder (30gm protein) in 1/2 cup lactaid milk when I get up. That has just over 30gm protein before I leave the house. I try at meals to eat protein. If I am short at the end of the day, I repeat with another 1/2 c lactaid with another scoop of Genepro. Bottom line, you need your protein. -
Getting frustrated
becomingmandikaye replied to Lizardlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I do - I add Genepro to strained chicken soup and it's AMAZING. It's the only thing I have that tastes remotely like real food, so I savor that cup every day. -
Sample a variety. Think about if RTD or powdered better fits into your lifestyle and pocketbook. I was using almond milk, but stopped since it was too low of a Protein payoff for the carbs it contains. I already had a nutra bullet because I drink Protein shakes pre-gym. That may not be an expense you want to make if you won't use it after the early post-op stages. Popular brands are Premier Protein, unjury, GENEPRO, Isopure and Syntrax nectar. However there are a zillion other brands out there. Make sure you speak to your nutritionist about what they recommend. Mine wanted me to make sure that the one I chose either had whey or soy isolates since that is the most concentrated form of protein. She said to make sure to not get concentrates. She also gave me guidelines as to nutrition levels per serving. I think it was at least 15 gms Proteins, and no more than 6 gms of sugar. I would have to double check my binder to be sure. I found I needed some unflavored protein as the constant sweet of the drinks was too much for me after a week. Being able to have vegetable broth or non chunky Soup with a scoop of unflavored protein was a welcome break. I also liked the Isopure teas because I needed something non milk based. Save all receipts. Most stores will accept unused portions if you decide you do not like them. Since people are sharing, here's my iced coffee/mock frap/mock coolata recipe. I buy a med Dunkin Donuts coffee with cream. Cool then pour into ice cube trays. 1 scoop of CVS chocolate whey ¼ - ½ cup of FAGE 0% plain greek yogurt depending on taste 4 - 6 ice cubes (a traditional ice cube is ~ 1 ounce) just enough Water to blend. Throw the whole thing in the nutra bullet. Based on 6 cubes and ½ cup of yogurt your totals are: 242 calories 14 carbs 4 fat 39 protein 111 sodium 7 sugar If you want to cut calories and carbs try ¼ cup and 4 cubes. I do this for pre-gym, drink half and drink the rest post workout for recovery. At 39 gms of protein I have now gotten in most of my protein before noon.

Protein Drink witch one
SassyNanny replied to sharoninidaho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Premium Protein from Costco and I really like the chocolate and the vanilla. The strawberry cream is too sweet for me but my friend loves that flavor. I also got Genepro unflavored protein powder that I use in sf pudding and blended soups. I'm getting plenty of protein easily. I have been blending frozen fruit in my Premium Protein and it is delicious and my tummy doesn't mind. -
Im almost certain the reason they're allowed to label it 30g of protein is because it has two asterisks next to it, stating **equivalencies based on the clinical trial (which i linked above). Even GENEPRO doesnt claim it has 30g of protein, because it absolutely doesnt. It literally states equivalency based upon THEIR clinical trial (that they paid for). Im surprised more nutrition companies haven't employed this tactic Its really not a huge deal though, and likely would make little to no difference unless youre getting the majority/almost all of your protein from Genepro. But if youre taking 1 serving of the stuff a day, its a moot point imo

Thank you maybe people will quit being so critical of GENEPRO. I am a long time user and I love it.

Hello all I am new to this forum and scheduled for surgery on April 21 and today I purchased premiere Protein shakes but didn't see any unflavored powder at Costco's for my soup. I saw a youtube tutorial where a young lady was talking about GENEPRO and asked my nutritionist about it and she looked it up and didn't recommend it so I didn't order it. advice pls!!!

I am also 8 days post-op and have had up and down feelings. However, I try to remind myself that I just had major surgery and give myself a break. I had a dog which helps me get up and out. But then I do get tired and have had challenges of getting my liquids and protein. So i drink a glass of milk in the morning w Genepro which is unflavored and a great tri-peptide protein source. That helps because without protein we will feel tired. Friends who have had this surgery tell me to take it easy because we really do need to heal first. Depression can come too just because of the physical and hormonal changes so I'm actually sitting at my acupuncturist waiting for my appointment It's amazing how much this helps. Take care all and enjoy the holidays!!

Suppose to be on stage 4, stuck in Stage 2
OldVol74 replied to Tracilyn G.'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did fine with protein shakes pre surgery, but post-op, yuck. Can't tolerate them. A friend put me onto Genepro Protein Powder. It is tasteless and you can mix it in anything you can tolearte to drink. My friend uses coffee but since I'm 4 years caffeine free, I mix mine in diluted fruit juice like cran/pomegranate or grape juice. One scoop delivers 30 grams of protein and it will be worth the cost for sure if it works for you. -
GENEPRO by musclegen doesn't taste like anything!!!! I bought mine from lucky Vitamin.com with buying two bags it was $60 free shipping. It basically comes to $1 a day if you use 1 serving a day. It's 98 calories, 1 tablespoon serving. I add it to Greek yogurt so I get 42 grams of Protein in one sitting. (Some people think you can only absorb a certain amount of protein at once both my nutritionist and my surgeon told me that was absolutely ridiculous) at 42 grams I only have to eat 18 more grams of protein a day to reach my goal of 60. You can also get two samples of the Genepro off their website for $3.50. It's a fantastic product you can't beat!!!

I bought chicken noodle soup and just sipped on the soup did not eat the noodles or chicken or veggies. I didn't start eating until cleared to go on soft foods. I found Starbucks mocha light Frappucino at CVS and would add a scoop of unflavored Genepro to it and sip on that, still drink it for breakfast with a boiled egg

I use Musclegen Research GENEPRO Molecular Tri Protein Peptide. I put one scoop in 3/4 cup of 2% Braum's milk, along with half a packet of Carnation Breakfast Essentials No Sugar. The Genepro dissolves completely with very little taste and the Carnation Breakfast Essential favors the milk nicely. You get 30 grams of protein with each tablespoon scoop. You can also mix the Genepro with anything...yogurt, oatmeal, milk poured over Cereal, etc. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

How Many Calories Were You Taking in Around 7-8 Weeks?
kharenzhee replied to kharenzhee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your responses, everyone! Northcountyr1, I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. It's 30 grams of protein and only 57 calories. You can put it in anything. And yes, I was walking for the first four weeks. Since being cleared to do more, I also bike and have started a C25K program (run/walk). Have also incorporated some minor strength training. it's hard in the beginning to get in all the Protein. There is another thread discussing GENEPRO Protein powder. I just bought some on Amazon n love it. A small amount packs 30 grams of unflavored protein. It can be added to drinks, purées , etc

2nd week post op smoothie ideas?
A New KK replied to melk86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said not to use a straw because it adds air to your intestinal tract causing bloating and gas pain. I found an unflavored Protein powder GENEPRO that I've been using to add to broth because I was bored with Protein shakes. I didn't find a cinnamon bun flavored one on amazon that wasn't too bad and to up the protein I added greek yogurt to my shakes. -
My Doctors nutritionist approved GNC lean shake 25. They fit the requirements and taste great. They have ready mixed and powder. Different flavor. After surgery to get more Protein in I'm going to see if using GENEPRO tasteless protein and add it to shakes. I will be able to get my protein in. Hope this helps. Tastes better than premiere or muscle milk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What did you wish you knew pre-surgery/sleeve life?
Autumn Fury replied to Ashley Wright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The things I wish I knew before surgery are: 1. Get the Vitamin Patches. 2. Avoid the Protein shakes as much as possible - try to get as much protein from real food as you can.Your taste buds will change. 3. Fluids are a constant struggle, have a variety of options available. 4. An ice pack was my best friend while recovering. 5. You will have several incisions and they do take time to heal. 6. It's difficult to lay on your right side. (I'm 6 weeks out & still can't lay on my right side). 7. unjury Protein powder taste great in chicken Soup. 8. GENEPRO is a good protein powder but be careful what you mix it with. 9. Any local support groups you can attend are very beneficial. 10. Every day it will get a little bit better. Post-OP Liquid Diet Phase
truckeelove replied to ready2livenow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try GENEPRO Protein (available at Amazon). It's been a life saver for me. Mixes into anything without changing the taste or the texture and you only need to add 1 tablespoon to get 30 grams of protein! Also, if you have a Trader Joe's in your area, tgey have yummy vegetarian thin Soups like carrot ginger, roasted red pepper and tomato or butternut squash. Good luck! -
Started purée diet today. Help!
LaLoLaughs replied to alyssadietrch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have used Genepro. It's flavorless (for the most part) and dissolves in most things pretty quickly. A tablespoon contains 30g of protein. I have put it in my coffee, milk, yogurt, ricotta bake and even egg salads. I prefer this one to u n j u r y. I bought mine on Amazon after discovering it on the forums here. -

1 week post op protein problems....
JamieLogical replied to 2bullymom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If using Genepro, I would only count the 15g of protein that are physically in a serving, not the 30g they claim. But I personally steer clear of it entirely, because it seems like a bunch of junk science to me. -
Dizziness in the morning, severe
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to TheBearguy8's topic in The Guys’ Room
You could be dehydrated!! This is a problem with WLS, if you don't get all of your fluids in you can become dizzy etc. Have you checked to see if your blood sugar is ok? When you mentioned that orange juice helped it could very well be a low blood sugar. I had major dizzyness early on plus heart palpatations big time. When I exercised it felt horrible. When I went into my PCP he was worried that it was my heart. He ordered a Stress test, first one was physical and the second test was ultra sound with medicine to stress my heart out. It was because of dehydration. I am 4 years out and I still struggle some with getting in my water. Mostly because I am a big coffee drinker!! But...I put GENEPRO in my Espresso and it has 30grams of protein in it. A WIN WIN for me!! It has 30grams of protein. Good Luck -
