    protein supplements

Genepro powder is awesome. 30 grams in a tiny scoop and it mixes great with hot tea. Not taste at all. I have 2 cups of tea a day to at least get my 60g without my food

    My hair, my hair!

I began losing hair at the four month mark, but it wasn't drastic. I added GENEPRO to my morning coffee as a way of easily sliding in more Protein, and that seemed to help a bit. I haven't taken any Biotin because of fears it could cause a breakout. I also tried collagen after reading about it on here, though it was at the 7 month mark when hair loss had slowed down considerably so I can't really gauge its benefit. The main thing that helped me was to stop washing my hair every day. I started washing it every other day, or even every third day. I'd wear a shower cap and then would sprinkle some dry shampoo in my hair to refreshen it up. I like Lush's the best, but there are several brands that have them. I also think I benefitted from slowing down my weight loss a little. I went on a lengthy vacation at Christmas and wasn't being as mindful about tracking my eating. I didn't gain any weight, but also didn't lose any during that time either. I noticed that my hair loss slowed considerably. I started losing weight again in the new year, but at a slower pace. I've still met my goals, and my hair loss has stayed minimal.

    Best Unflavored Protein Powder?

Genepro! It has more protein (30g) and only 1 spoon instead of 2 spoons for isopure and isopure has less protein...all personal preference though.

    Premier protein

If they make you feel bloated you might be Lactose Intolerant. I did Premier drinks 2 weeks proop and 4 weeks postop. It gave me the back door trots so bad I couldn't leave the house without a pad on. TMI I know but so very true!! My PA told me after I was almost done with my postop that I was more than likely Lactose Intolerant. I also use GENEPRO. It is great stuff. And it is made by a VETERAN. So we get to support them too. Lots of peeps become Lactose Intolerant after their WLS.
  5. I agree with SGIRL35. I'm sure they're being cautious to allow healing inside as well. My Dr. is conservative as well. I had one week clear liquids, but 2 weeks full liquids. I will be going to Pureed at week 3. So being on the liquids is getting old, I understand that - but what has encouraged me is remembering I DO NOT WANT TO RISK COMPLICATIONS! I read a horror story about someone that had leaks and multiple complications. But I get what you're saying, you just have the desire. I'm sticking to the list of approved stages & liquids/foods on those stages. As far as your protein, what has worked for me is GenePro (one Tablespoon in Crystal light is how I take it) unflavored, disolves great. 30 gm per serving. So I do that twice a day, and with the yogurt it gives you the 70gm goal. My Dr. recommended 60 - 70gm goal. I found the GenePro at GNC. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I just came from my 1 week post-op appointment. All is good. Down to 266 lbs (on Drs scale). I was able to start mushy food today and enjoyed a little bowl of scrambled eggs for breakfast. After 3 weeks of liquids - the eggs were exceptional! We went grocery shopping after the Drs and just walking through the store wiped me out. Going to try some refried Beans in a little bit. I am doing great with fluids - not so great with Protein. Ordering some GENEPRO to help with meeting protein goals. Hope all the October Sleevers are doing well!

    Struggling with my 3 meals

Hi Crstal88.......I was sleeved on 10/27/14. I had my 2 week post op appointment yesterday with my surgeon. Everything is going really well. At my two week mark I could start mushy type foods so I did. Everything I have tried so far has gone down well. Thank God! I have always ate three meals a day and usually a snack at night so I did have to cut that out because my surgeons practice says NO SNACKING. I am still off of work so it's a little easier with my meal planning. I am suppose to be doing two shakes a day and one small meal. I was doing two meals and one shake but doc wants me doing two shakes and 1 meal so that is what I will do most days, but some days I am doing two meals and one shake. I was able to get my Protein on the days I was doing 2 shakes and 1 meal by adding unflavored GENEPRO to my drinks. I try to get my Breakfast in pretty soon after I wake up, shakes go down just fine for me in about 20 minutes. then I wait my 30-40 mins and I start with my liquids and try to get at least 24oz in before I have to stop drinking to be able to eat/drink my lunch. Then I wait again and start my liquids to get them in before dinner. And then sometime between 5-7 depending when my husband gets home I do dinner. then more liquids. This really seems to work for me and I think even when I go back to work it will continue to work. The only issue I have right now is if I have an appt or something around lunchtime I have to figure out how to get my lunch in in between. But it really boils down to planning planning planning!! I'm not really hungry at all much during the day so I think that helps me to stick to my plan. I have to really make sure to plan since in my family there is me, my husband and my daughter. My daughter has decided to not eat meat anymore so at dinnertime I am basically making three different dinners. So far it has been working, but again not without planning. When I wasn't watching what I ate it was easy to get lazy and then just eat whatever, this makes us plan ahead. I hope any of this helps. Good luck, I always hate when I read on here that people are struggling with things, you know you just want to reach thru the computer and fix it!!! Good luck and I hope it gets easier for you!!

    Pre-op coffee question

I use GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder in my coffee every day. It is a WIN WIN for me. I love love my coffee and GENEPRO has 30 grams of protein in a Tablespoon. Now I know some peeps don't think GENEPRO has 30grams but I love it, as I am 3 years out and still struggle with getting all of my protein in. Good Luck

    Protein shakes... yuck.

I haven't done it with coffee yet, but found that it worked OK for broths and Soups if I used my blender and mixed the unflavored Protein (GENEPRO and others both work this way for me) with a small amount of lukewarm Water or milk, then mixed that with the hot liquid. I also find that while the taste doesn't change, the texture definitely does. I cannot stand the protein powders mixed with pudding/yogurt/drinks but it works OK in soups/broths for me.
  11. I just purchased my first tub of GENEPRO. I'm interested to find out if it actually has the Protein in it that it claims. Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

September Sleevers How are we doing?

I just found this Protein powder which is tasteless and you can add it to almost everything and the best part of it all is that it is 30 grams of protein per 1 tablespoon. maybe this is something that could be good for you to get your protein in. it's called Musclegen Research GENEPRO Protein Powder and i picked it up at amazon.com

    Unflavored Protein Powder

I tried so many unflavored proteins!! I really would hate to know how much $$ I have spent since my RNY. I commend anyone that can get the ISOPURE down, Yucky. I have used GENEPRO for quite now. I am a huge coffee hound, I temper the powder in warm water and add it to my Espresso every day!! A WIN WIN for me!!

    Icky Protein Drinks!

Syntrax nectar is far superior to these. GENEPRO unflavored, as well. However, Not sure if you can buy these locally. I had to purchase online.

    Daily Intake

I drink coffee with almond milk and a scoop of Genepro and 2 tsp of Verisol Collagen Bioactive peptides every morning. After that, the rest of my protein comes from food. My protein intake varies but right now 65g/day is working for me.
  16. you can also buy GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder that can be mixed in with broth or anything for that matter. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

    Protein snacks

My doctor also suggested a product called GENEPRO. He said there is 30g of Protein in a tablespoon. It is unflavored and can be added to Water, crystal light, oatmeal or anything. I haven't tried it yet but he says it is great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Just getting started

I use premier Protein for one meal and then GENEPRO medical grade powder missed with something for another meal ( it's pretty gross) - the body can't absorb more than 30 at a time I read - so I do it at two separate meals Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    WHATS THE BEST PROTEIN POWDER

I would say do not over-invest! I bought every protein powder known to man and recommended on here. You should try and get samples to figure out what you like...not just buy them all willy-nilly! (Like me!). My favorite, though, is Genepro which is pretty much flavorless and can be mised with almost anything (refried beans, SF jello, any recipe) to boost protein. I also use Premier Protein or Fairlife Vanilla pre-mixed in my coffee each morning. Good luck!!

  24. My favorite is Dannon Triple Zero yogurt with a scoop of Genepro unflavored protein powder added. If it's not sweet enough you can add a touch of stevia. Basically, you may need to just add protein powder to everything possible. You should be eating protein at every meal or snack, and eat it first. My best weight loss has happened when I finally got enough protein consistently. You can still lose weight without it, but you risk losing muscle mass. It is helpful if you can get protein in your liquids if you're falling short with your food. Good luck to you!
