Hi Iam getting banded on the 26/06/09 and I am paying for it myself. I have been told to go on a low fat diet for 2 weeks which I have done successfully, but I am really worried about my liver. I am not an alcoholic or anything but I do like a glass of wine or two in the evening with my meal and have done this for many years. Now I am worrying if and when the Dr. opens me up and says my liver is too bad. Oh I am worrying about everything at the moment and my husband thinks I am overreacting cause Im so nervous but it is something I haven't thought about until now. Has anyone had any experience of this. Really appreciate any replies. Being banded in Belgium and havent had any blood tests yet as get them the day before the op owing to it being performed in another country. Jx:sad:

Can you have alcohol after the band. I realize I won't be able to have a drink until the band heals, but what about later? I do enjoy a margarita or two...;o)

I have been banded for about 1 month. It has been very easy and I have felt great. I eat less, but it takes much restraint because I haven't had any fills. At 1 week, I started eating anything I wanted, but just chewing very carefully and eating just small amounts. I love beer, but haven't done that since it is a big no!! Well, last night we went out to dinner and I had 2 margaritas since I can't have beer. I really don't like hard liquor and I hate wine. Those 2 drinks were way too much for me and I have a headache today. Is there anyone out there who has found an alcoholic beverage to replace beer? I also love mimosas, but those are a no also. I drink only when we go out, but would like a drink that won't hit so hard.

Howdy! I read your post on smoking & alcohol. I am on my 3rd attempt to quit. I didnt realize a test was done and now I am only 10 days in to quitting. I was an occassional smoker like you, so I completely understand. It might have only been one a day, but dang it, I want that one! Anyway, if you need a partner in crime to kick this I am there.

Scheduled to have surgery on June 12th. Meditrim (pre-op diet) on the 29th of this month. And God Damn it I cheated :mad2: Supposedly I should stop smoking from today the 12th. I knew this was coming, so I purposely had more yesterday, but today I feel like it's on the 12th I can cheat a lil bit. But sigh, I feel so bad, I had craving and in the end i had 2 full "120 Capri" cigarettes I am an occasional smoker. I smoke none a day, or if i feel stressful i'll have up to 3 a day. ( unless i'm drinking i have alot more ) But I know I can handle the alcohol issue though i loveee drinking ( I don't drink beer, but i love cocktails shooters bicardi pineapple ), but I overestimated myself for smoking. Hope to meet people that had gone through "quitting smoking phase" and looking for a companion to "not smoke" together. -
Ok so obviously if you drink it must be in moderation, and the tolerance for it goes way down after surgery. I also know about empty calories and that alcohol should be avoided if possible for this and many other health related reasons. I know all of this. My question is specifically, after lap-band surgery, are there any harms that come from drinking alcohol that you wouldn't have had before hand (besides lower tolerance)? Such as "LB does such and such and therefore the liver blah blah". Any good medical reasons are what I'm looking for. I don't plan to have any yet, I'm really just curious. TIA!!!

Does anyone know how much sugar alcohol you are allowed a day? I know regular sugar is 8 grams.

I know we are only aloud 8grams of sugar a day , but what about sugar alcohol. Any ideas?

Just wondering what the rules are on alcohol during my 2 week pre-op diet are. I am going to a cookout and didn't know if it was ok to have a "drink". Any feedback would be GREAT!!

Yeah you can drink alcohol. I just dont anymore because most of the drinks i like have carbonated drinks mixed in. And I dont do carbonated much anymore. Plus it's alot of calories I dont need, lol

Hello...I have 8 years clean and sober and I am being banded in Mexico on April 16, 2009...I feel like I am checking back into rehab now that I have a surgery date...I am looking to see if there is anyone local to me who would be interested in correspondence/support. It seems like staying clean is easy-just stay away from it, BUT WE ALL HAVE TO EAT!! UGH...I am taking it second by second.HOLDING ON!!! -
i'm 2 weeks out from surgery... i really really want a drink... how long did everyone wait til they started drinking again?

I know that it's bad for you, but I will turn 21 about 5months after surgery. I'm not saying that I will go super overboard, but I can't see not being able to drink a little. As of right now, I'm not really that big of a drinker. I have 1 alcoholic beverage every 6months, and I'm not a big partyer. So I would just like to know what have your experiences been with alcohol? How often do you drink? How much can you drink? I would just like to be able to go out every now and then and get a decent buzz lol. But it really wouldn't be that big of a sacrifice to give it up completely seeing as I almost never drink the stuff anyway. So let me know what's up :biggrin:

I am curious if all alcohol consumption is forbidden after you've had surgery. If after 6 months post op are you allowed to have a couple sips? I know a whole cocktail is not possible. But a couple sips?

Hi Brandy , thanks for your response about alcohol and sodas. I haven't had niether since my surgery on 2/9/2009. I like to drink alcohol when I'm out. I can do without sodas since I really didn't such of it anyway only sprite or 7up.
