Hi. Congratulations on going thru the surgery! You will lose weight, don’t worry! People have stalls and your body is reconfiguring your new system. I have been advised to stick with the doctors orders, hold off on all temptations and focus on staying hydrated and getting your protein in. Once you have healed you can add in an exercise regiment and a diet if you still aren’t satisfied. I think the soft food diet is cottage cheese, yogurt, beans and puréed foods. stay strong!

You are doing much better than I am. Today I was taken to radiography so they can test if there are any leaks. That experience was very painful due to the positioning but there are no leaks so I can start eating. I drank two sips of water and had immediate cramping. That stopped after 5 minutes. I requested a meeting with the nutritionist because their list is very confusing. They say sugar fee, fat free yogurt, all yogurt has some amount of sugar in it naturally so I need explanations. The pain medication helps tremendously, I agree. They have me on an opioid and a muscle relaxant. Today they added another pain medication. I do not know when they will send me home yet, but I am scared because all meds they are giving me are given through my arm port and I need to know that I will be able to control this pain at home. This is just 24 hours after the roux en y surgery, I thought it will be easier….Sigh…

I can put away a whole egg too. Depending on what it is I can eat about 2-4oz. I'm about 5 weeks as well.. As far as breakfast. What about turkey sausage, oatmeal with protein powder, or yogurt. I'm still mostly drinking my breakfast.

Do you like ice cream type of deserts? Your fav instant sugar free pudding non fat sugar free Greek yogurt (less sweet use plain, if you want sweetish use vanilla) 2 scoops 30gr protein powder. See which works best. Freeze in popsicles Make your pudding add yogurt and protein powder and blend well

La.nena, I just started soft foods today and don't think I could do it with just 1 protein drink either. Saw my doctor today and he said to try and replace the drinks, but make sure to keep supplementing with them to hit my goals. For reference, today I had 1/2 egg 1/3 of a greek yogurt mixed with vanilla protein powder 1 cheese stick 75% of a turkey stick 25% of a ricotta bake (which was yummy) I honestly could have done without the cheese stick as I am not sure that I was really that hungry, and it was decently close to dinner time (like 90m before). I ended up hitting the same protein level I had yesterday, but got 10g more of fat and 2g more of carbs. Overall, very happy with the day.

Anyone take up running after surgery???
The Greater Fool replied to Jjohnson1971's topic in Fitness & Exercise
When I got down to about 100 pounds overweight I challenged myself to run 5k just to prove I could. I did a program similar to Couch to 5 K (C25K). It took about a month. I discovered I enjoyed running. I could use to time to put the day in order and ponder life's challenges. I started adding distance, then worked at improving time. At some point I decided on running a marathon, so got a book (Idiot's guide to Marathons) and followed the program there. The more I ran the more I enjoyed it. I lived in Las Vegas at the time and decided I would run in the Valley of Fire Marathon which was out in the desert near Lake Mead. A couple months before the marathon I had a business trip to Long Beach and as it happened the Long Beach Marathon was that weekend. I decided I would sign up and use it as a training run. I didn't really intend to finish, but as it turned out I did. It was wonderful. So my second marathon was Valley of Fire, which was up and down a hill. Very challenging. My third marathon was Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach. 4th was San Francisco Marathon where I got to run across the Golden Gate Bridge. This was a tough one for me. I tripped at about 1/4 mile from the start, landed hard on my chin. I new there was an aid station about mile 4 on the other side of the bridge, so I said I'd get to there and call it a day. By time I got there I didn't feel bad at all, the bleeding stopped and the aches were subsiding, so I continued knowing I could cut to the half marathon if necessary. The half marathon cut off was about mile 11, and I was doing well so I just stuck with it. At about mile 13 was the first sustained uphill where I finally needed to take some deep breaths and realized I couldn't. I trudged as well as I could to the end, where they diverted me to the hospital tent then the hospital. Turned out I had a broken rib and required stitches in my chin. My 5th and last (as it turned out) was Long Beach Marathon, a year after my first. I was way past goal at this point, and couldn't eat enough to stop losing weight. For the year of marathons I ran about 90 miles a week, went through a pair of shoes every 6 weeks. I'm prouder of my marathons than I am of losing 500+ pounds. To your questions: I never worried about fuel during a run that was less that 15 miles. Over 15 I did a "goo" every 5 miles. Hydration is where I focused. That and breathing. I had to be careful as most "fuel" is heavy on sugar and I dump on sugar. I did dump a few times until I learned my tolerances of different products. I did yogurt before and after. Building stamina is what the C25K and other programs are about. Keep a running log & journal so you can see your improvement, which is extremely motivational. Be patient. Good luck, Tek -
Congrats! I can’t wait till I’m all healed up and can start eating normal foods again, I love chicken and especially white meat, but my surgeon says I need to stay away from it because it’s too dry and can cause a blockage…although canned chicken is fine with a little mayo or yogurt. Been a heck of a journey so far.

It took me all day to take my tablets in the beginning because I could feel them as I swallowed. I had a massive restriction. Some people on here had zero problems. Just do your best. Some go down best with a drink others are best with a small spoon of yogurt. I still take gummy vitamins because I like them. I still have suckable calcium but it takes some getting used to. Out of habit I still break my pain medication in half. I get B12 by 3 monthly injections

We call this kind of vomiting the 'foamies' - You have either eaten too quickly, eaten too dry a food, eaten too much or your stomach is not ready for this food yet. [ or sometimes I get a something like a piece of tomato skin stuck] Our tiny stomachs have the same amount of acid in as before so it causes plenty of problems, especially when you have eaten nothing. It could be that this is causing your bowels problems too Until you get your docs appointment, you need to calm this devil stomach. Go back to basics. I can not eat potato and It took me 12 months to master chicken. My basics would be yogurt, milk, cheese and tinned soups. I hope you get your appointment soon -

A low fat mayo that you can tolerate. It may take trying a few before you find what you like. Another option is to use yogurt to replace all or some of the mayo. Good luck on your recovery. -
Struggling… the evil voice is back.
Fred in Pa replied to mcipanda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You are not alone! I had my surgery on March 1, so I’m just a few weeks ahead of you and my appetite has also returned. Please do not be too hard on yourself, because that anxiety is what drains your confidence and willpower. I have found that the exercising is what creates the hunger and deep hunger creates the cravings. So before I exercise, I have a protein portion. A shake or high protein yogurt. I also do the same right after…fill your pouch. Try to keep it full with good food and protein. I have also felt that if I properly hydrate, the cravings are fewer…so make sure you are drinking a lot before, during, and after your exercise. Good luck and hang in there, you are not alone! PS: I, too, had a slice of pizza last week and had the same mental reactions. It wasn’t worth it. -
A little late to the game, but I just had my Bypass on 5/15/2023. I am flying to Italy for a 2 week trip on 6/28, so around 6.5 weeks total from surgery to trip. I discussed it with my doctor and he had no reservations about the timing, I think he would have been comfortable up to about 5 weeks out. According to my food plan, I will be on soft foods by then, and fish/salmon is one of the best "starter" meats, so I plan on having a lot of seafood while over there. I do plan on taking a healthy stash of 1-off protein powder mixes to dump into a bottle of water if I need to supplement. I would recommend requesting a hotel room with a mini-fridge and putting some yogurt/cottage cheese/protein drinks/etc in there so that you aren't constantly trying to figure out meals.

Really hoping I haven’t sabotaged myself
pintsizedmallrat replied to justsillyme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First of all, complete agree with this just being a "normal" stall and the best way out is to just stay the course. It will eventually break if you are following your plan and tracking everything as closely as you are now. If you like nuts and want something different for lunch, I usually make myself a salad with 1/4 oz of nuts or seeds (I like pistachios and pumpkin seeds), 2 oz of rotisserie chicken, 1 oz of leafy greens like spinach or baby kale and 1 oz of berries or other lower-carb fruits/veggies like tomatoes, and 1/2 oz of salad dressing (which can be something of your choosing; I like poppyseed dressing but it's a bit sugary. I just allow for it elsewhere in my day). The whole thing is under 300 calories, is well balanced, contatins more protein than the nuts alone and will keep you full longer. Another way to incorporate nuts in a more "substantial" way is to put, again, 1/4 oz of them in a Greek yogurt, maybe also add some kind of lower-sugar fruit like berries. You end up with a meal closer to 20g of protein depending on what brand and quantity of yogurt you're having. -
I normally love greek yogurt but I have to force myself to eat it now. Im 2 months po bypass.

is it flavored yogurt? If so, it could be whatever artificial sweetener they use. Some people are sensitive to certain artificial sweeteners.

May 2023 surgeries
travelgal replied to WVJess2Less's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm ten days out from VSG with a esophageal hernia repair. I did need to take Tylenol for pain for seven days, and I'm happy to be pain free now. Luckily, I was able to take 50oz of fluid from the beginning - and I am now up to 75+oz. Honestly, I was more worried about that than food restriction, because I have always loved drinking water. All of the sweet protein shakes and waters have put me off sweet tastes and I have been experimenting. I've been adding GenePro unflavored protein powder to everything (there is one with 22 grams of Protein for a small scoop). I'm in the pureed stage with meat now (I know - but my University's lead surgeon allows on his diet plan) and I have enjoyed cream of malanga soup with one very soft scrambled egg and today I made a kind of blended chicken tzatziki soup with cucumber, cottage cheese, chicken and dill, plus a little water. I'm so happy! 4oz had 21gr of protein. I also love spices, but I'm taking it slow. I have a couple of finishing salts with truffle or lemon/fennel. Just the lightest sprinkle makes a big difference to my tastebuds. And FlavorGod's Gingerbread cookie topper mini-sprinkles gives a zing to all the protein yogurt I've been eating. I hope this helps some people looking for ideas to get away from the sweet tastes. I've also switch off premade protein shakes and back to Iconic brand protein powders. They taste be mild and not sweet, so once you get to the 8oz of liquids I recommend it. I have been getting out to do errands before I go back to work next week, however I haven't really started walking with exercise in mind. It's time to start today. I'm nine pounds down and very happy I made the decision for WLS. 59 since starting this journey with the Bariatric Center in November. I'm a foodie, and I was worried about not being able to enjoy foods in the future and I'm incredibly happy I am on the way to good health. On that note, I was taken off a blood pressure med and a statin by my GP yesterday. THAT was a win! For any of you who are having more challenges after your surgery. Hang in there! My heart is with you because I know that could be any of us. -
isopure infusions - is there a trick?
BabySpoons replied to heatherdbby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't use Isopure but it seems this method would work mixing any protein powder drink. I blend my protein shakes with a Vitamix. I was worried because I read on this forum that my blender would cause too much foam and contribute to gas. Never was a problem and I swear it makes my drinks taste better. No chalkiness etc. I add a frozen cup of yogurt and ice cubes along with skim milk to the mix and it comes out more like a milk shake. I can eat it with a spoon. And to add a bit of sweetness or change up the flavors I add half a packet of SF Sunkist singles or Crystal Light. So maybe try adding some frozen to cut down on the foam for more of a dessert type drink. -
Im 24 days post op Gastric sleeve. I have been able to tolerate really well milk, cheese shredded, laughing cow cheese, cottage cheese… and somehow, greek yogurt is also making me throwing up. Any of you have similar experiences? I feel so confused

7 days Post Op now. Sadi-s Wow this has been so hard!! My entire entertainment selection has consisted of people eating those unhealthy foods that we shouldn’t be having for a long while. My head hunger is insane. Erik the electric videos, Instagram, Facebook, everywhere is just delicious food videos. It’s been really hard. I’ve really struggled getting through the liquids stage. I’m not sure how to keep going. I ordered a soup from a local bakery today because I’ve been struggling eating. I know I haven’t been getting near enough. Loaded baked potato soup that I put in the blender. It was amazing. I’m not sure if it’s something I’m allowed to eat or not but I went slow and let my tummy talk for me. Can’t wait to be out of this liquids stage. Feeding my whole family delicious food like Alfredo and Grilled Cheese and Pesto and every other thing that they are eating has been so hard. I know other people are struggling but it’s been pretty bad for me. Been extremely light headed and dizzy today and decided I really needed to focus liquids and getting more food. Hopefully things stable out. My two go-to’s are Vanilla Pudding (Sugar Free) Life saver, Cream of Chicken Soup, and I just had my first bit of Greek Yogurt and honestly I am grateful I did. I didn’t realize how well my stomach would take to the yogurt. I’m about 32 oz of water today and it’s 5 PM which is a lot better than every other day. I know I’m dehydrated so I really need to get it under control but I’m doing my best! I know this is all a jumbled mess of updates, but again lightheaded and foggy minded lol. The reason I took the time to post this is because wanted to check in and see if anybody else is struggling like this? Or am I an outlier minority? Goodluck everyone. I think once I can have a string cheese next week, refried beans and scrambled eggs, everything will be better I hope. That’s all for now…. >:(

There was a lady on here that ate 5 flaming Cheetos only 9 days post op so it happens. The thing is, you know it was a slip so just don’t do it again. The biggest reason isn’t really calories, it’s the fact that your new stomach is healing. Don’t want to accidentally mess cause a medical issue ya know? I know the protein shakes suck. Could you thin out yogurt with milk maybe? I’d talk to my doctor to see what I could do instead. Good luck!
