  1. This is my very first post! I had RNY / hiatal hernia surgery for severe reflux due to my BMI. Gastric bypass was never my first choice but I figured it would be a win-win. Fix the reflux and lose weight! My surgery was February 24, 2021. Today is postop day four. I was down to 278 before surgery. Today I am 283!!!! I am in shock that eating 400 cal a day, 60 g of protein (and I’ve been able to drink about 50 ounces of water every day!) I still haven’t lost weight - in fact it’s gone up. I was in the hospital for two days because of severe pain and had a lot of IV fluids so this could be it but I don’t feel swollen? Did this happen to anybody immediately postop? 😬
  2. Hi everyone, I am new here and I have finally decided to go through with doing the Gastric Sleeve. My surgeon told me that my insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised weight loss with my primary care provider. I am scheduled March 24th for my surgery, but I have gained 8 pounds within the last two months of my supervised weight loss. The nurse told me try not to gain, and insurance can deny me if I do gain. I have tried to get answers from my insurance company, but nobody has been able to answer my question. I am located in New York, and my hospital plan is city of New York Blue Cross Blue Shield ppo. I am supposed to go on 2 week liquid diet on March 10th, and I believe I'll lose the weight I gained from that. I am just really nervous of denial, and was wondering if anyone has my insurance, or has been denied for weight gain on the supervised weight loss? Thanks!
  3. Hi everyone! I’m getting sleeved on the 22nd of March and I’m getting so excited! I have a question though: has anyone done heavy weightlifting (Olympic) or powerlifting after they’ve had a VSG? I’m keen to know when you were able to train with reasonable weights and if you did any light bodyweight training earlier during recovery? cheers!
  4. So i lost 12 lbs my first week then hit a 2 week long stall.. I lost again for a week and have been stalled now for another week.. Im now at 7 weeks and ive only lost 24 lbs.. Im following my doctors orders and eating 3 3oz meals a day.. Getting under 600 calories, 60-80 grams of protein, and keeping my carbs sugars and fats very very low.. I walk between 3&5 miles a day and i drink plenty of fluids.. I just dont understand.. My mom had the same surgery and lost so much weight so fast.. Its so discouraging.. How do you break a stall?? I almost just want to go on liquids again.. Sent from my LM-K920 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. My name is William Godfrey and I am a 21 year Army retiree. I currently work as a Culinary instructor and also part time at the Home Depot. My journey has been up and down with weight struggles since retiring. I quit HD back in 2017 to get my culinary degree and during that time I hit an all time high of 303 being 5'6". I've tried all the diets and the last was keto. Before retirement I got a disc fusion from my bulging discs and with this extra weight it just made the pain worse. Going through the VA, we tried just about everything until they told me that VA was authorizing gastric surgeries and doing that would help me release weight and pressure from my back. So here I am after almost 2 years of going through their program requirements, hold ups from COVID, and other issues...I received gastric sleeve surgery on 22 Feb and am now in the loser's club. I'm looking forward to longevity in life and less pain..moreover time with my kids and grandbaby.
  6. I have never posted but I’m so discouraged I dont know where to turn. I originally had the lap band in 2010. I had great results at first. I developed some great work out habits then fell off and gained back the entire 121lbs. July 7 2020 I did a conversion from band to sleeve. Since then up to today (2/24/21)I have only lost 40.8 lbs. I have not been able to exercise. Not even walk due to an ankle injury that I’ll have surgery for next month. But still my expectations were so much higher. I see so many ppl that had the sleeve at the same time as me losing so much more. That depresses me and I go emotionally eat. A viscous cycle. Can anybody relate to the slow weight loss and how did u turn it around. Plz help guys! I feel like a WLS failure twice!!!

  9. Good afternoon! Had VSG December 2, 2019 - have since lost a total of 140 lbs. - with another 5lbs to goal weight - thankfully! In the last 5 months I’ve been experiencing ongoing back pain - especially when I’ve been on my feet a good amount throughout the day. I think my back doesn’t know how to adjust with all this weight loss? Have you noticed back pain since losing weight? If so, how are you finding relief?
  10. So, I've reached and actually far surpassed my goal weight, and I'm ecstatic about that! However, I am ashamed to confess that, to put it bluntly, my diet SUCKS. I don't even know when it started to, probably over the 2020 holidays if I had to guess. I've continued to lose weight since then, and that's probably why I haven't felt compelled to make healthy changes to my diet. But believe me, I know how wrong that is. I just haven't wanted to face it head on until now. The fact is, I know that reaching goal weight is NOT the end of the journey. It's just starting, in fact. I exercise daily, and that's great, but my eating habits are pure garbage. It's hard to admit this. I'm deeply ashamed of it. To have gotten the privilege of having bariatric surgery, and to, due to that privilege, reach the accomplishment of my weight loss goal, only to treat my body like a garbage can, is a huge disservice to myself and to the golden opportunity I was given. Here's the thing: I don't know where to start. During my weight loss phase I had that down pat, I kept it very simple, which is part of why I don't know what to do with myself now. Being in maintenance, I'm at the point where I don't even know, what do I eat? I do not want to focus on calorie counting anymore (at this point, at least), for personal reasons - I just want to eat healthily. I want to give my body the nutrition it deserves. But what does that look like at goal weight? Does anyone have any advice or resources I could use to help me with this? I don't mean a calorie counter type thing, I mean more like a basic "these are the foods you should eat" type thing, with ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I don't know where to start - I'm embarrassed about that but not so embarrassed as to not ask for help when I need it...and I really do need it. If anyone has any ideas or tips to get me started on how to eat healthy at maintenance, I'd be so grateful, thanks in advance!
  11. Hello, It's already 2021 end of February. How are you? At the beginning of last November, in 2020: I had seen Dr. Kevin Dolan twice and he was insistent I needed my lap band removed. I had had it for 10;5 years, no problems, and lost 30 kilos. He had gotten on the telephone to my wonderful Gp several times and had discussed with her the difficulties I was having which were: vomiting, pain wasn't able to eat sometimes for about two weeks. BUT my private insurance had lapsed. I immediately rang and had it put back on. Dr. Dolan said that my lap band had slipped but boy, I didn't realize how ill I actually was. I went to the hospital emergency twice, the first time with my Mum and emergency Doctors told me to go home and the second time, they admitted me........after my boyfriend was screaming that no one seemed to be hearing my problems, All of a sudden, everything changed and a wonderful surgeon came to see me that I was to be operated on within 2 hours. My Mum and son went to get something to eat and came back to an empty bed. The surgeon was WONDERFUL: Dr. Foo was his name. He said that I was that far away from developing a huge hole in my tummy from an eroding lap band. Fortunately, he had removed all erosion from my tummy. PROBLEMS: from 2 November to 20th Feb 2021 Gained 10 kilos !!!! How has this happened ??? My Psychotherapist and I are positively discussing me getting a sleeve. Dr. Dolan offered to give me a gastric sleeve. He first suggested another lap band but I had heard that they are not that good to get anymore. I have scars all through my Tummy, I can see Dr. Foo or Dr. Dolan, does anyone have any comments ?? Thanks for reading: Annie Edited just now by Annie2021 hadnt written the whole of my story
  12. Soooo I kinda have flabby arms; had them before my surgery. I'm wondering if anyone lost that as they lost weight?? Did you do something to help with toning that area?? I will begin my soft food stage in a few days and have my first appt at that time. I was trying to wait before adding in workouts. I've just been walking for now. For me it's a big insecurity for me. I feel like it not something you can hide like loss skin on your tummy and legs. What are some things you guys did??
  13. I have been looking at a lot of before and after pictures on here and they are awesome. One thing that jumps off the page at me is the folks that resumed or started weight training after surgery are just amazing looking! I understand that is not for everyone for various reasons, just an observation. I am half way thru my liquid diet and have my surgery on Tuesday 2/23. The first 2 days on the liquid diet really sucked. Today , day 4 ,has not been so bad. I am thinking that last day before surgey may not be as bad as I anticipated. Honestly at this point I think I can just drink water and eat jello. I have not had any popcycles yet so I may throw those in on tht last day. Anyway, I am hoping I can get in the gym when my surgeon says it is ok and get after it. Good luck to everyone and continued success.
  14. Hi All Can anyone give me a rough guideline of how many calories daily they took in the early stages post gastric by pass and how many is enough to maintain continued weight loss Thanks Mary
  15. Hi everyone! I wanted to know what everyone did during their workout routine when you first started after surgery. I'm 7 months PO looking to get my strength back and build muscle as well. What did you all do in a routine (sets & reps)? Supplements included? Sent from my SM-N981U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Hi all! Just needed a little encouragement. I just got denied (first time) for my VGS because I gained eight pounds during my three-month supervised weight loss. The reason I gained weight is that I was a "lightweight" at 205/5'2 and my nutritionist told me not to lose too much weight or I might be denied. Eight pounds isn't a big deal, I know, and they said I just need to come in and weigh when I have lost that. So now I think I'm going to try to practice the liquid liver-shrinking diet I'll need to do pre-surgery to drop those pounds. It's day one and only breakfast and I am starving, lol. Any tips or tricks to get yourself through the liquid diet? TIA.
  17. i had by pass 6 days ago ,still have swelling and pain on left wound site and weigh more than I did pre op help!!
  18. I would love to hear from some folks about your weight loss after surgery the first 60 or 90 days after your sleeve surgery. I need inspiration. I am on this liquid diet and surgery in 6 days!
  19. All, I'm 6 months out and getting so frustrated. After being stuck/bouncing between 180-186 for several months, I finally (and very suddenly) dropped to 174. No idea what I did differently to make that happen. I hit 174 about 3 weeks ago and it lasted a few days, but have since regained a few pounds and am now been bouncing between 176-179. Again, no idea what I'm doing wrong or differently. I've kept to nearly the same diet/same types of foods for months. High protein, low carbs, low sodium, low/zero sugar, lots of water, etc. Any suggestions on how to kickstart the weight loss again? I'm down about 70lbs and about 40lbs from my goal weight, but I'm starting to lose faith. 😞

  21. I know that walking is important and something I will need to do moving forward forever. I enjoy going to the gym. I went for 2 years recently pretty religously. My wife finally told me she wished I would quit going because I was only getting bigger. She was right, I was gaining muscle and not losing much fat because I hated the cardio...It was just boring to me. I wanted to pump some iron baby! I was bench pressing 225 quite a few times and some lighter sets as well which I felt pretty good about at 61-62 years old at the time. I also was pressing well over 500 pounds on the seated incline leg press. 3 sets of 25. I realize after surgery I cant just jump back in and start lifting like this again but it made me feel good...I liked it. With Covid I am in no rush to get back in the gym until I get the vaccine but I do have dumbells in our gym here at the condos and will start there when the time is right after surgery. How long after surgery before you guys got back in the gym and got after it with heavy weights? Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
  22. Hi fellow sleevers I am 18 months post sleeve and unfortunately my gallbladder has decided she wants out. I’m having severe attacks and I’m now waiting the US results but the doctor says everything points out to be stones and possibly surgery. I’m a bit scared of the pain, as my sleeve recovery was so painful. And of the tolerance of foods after as I haven't had any issues post my sleeve until now. Also, I have been stalling since the pandemic started, so my questions to you are: 1. How was your experience? Was the pain worse than the surgery? 2. Did you lose more weight after? 3. Has it changed your tolerance to new foods? Thanks for your help, be safe!🤗
  23. Ive got 5.5ml in my lap band & ive stopped loosing weight over last year and half & even gained a bit. Cant see surgeon to get a fill because of covid, eating one meal a day just now & just small biscuits through day, its tough and my eating habits have changed
  24. Hi everyone! I started going to a different weight loss surgeon, and he just did lapband removal 2 months ago. Some doctors will remove a band the day of sleeve surgery, but mine does not do that. I am feeling good and excited about gastric sleeve surgery on March 9.
