    Knot in chest?

I still get that feeling, and I'm a little over 3 months out. I used to get it much more frequently when I was newly-post op, and from what I've read about it, it (for me anyway) seems to symbolize an irritation of the stoma- the little entry point from into what's left of your stomach. It's much smaller now, and when I ate/drank too fast or took too big of a bite/swallow, I'd get that knot like feeling right under my breastbone. What's even worse, is it would make me want to throw up so badly just to get rid of the feeling (sorry if it's TMI here) but I simply couldn't- of all things, getting on the treadmill and walking briskly was the only thing that helped. Now that I'm a bit further post-op, I've gotten pretty good at gauging what's going to give me that feeling- nearly all breads and meats- boo! Hopefully for you it stays as a symptom of your healing body & goes away

    The scoop on poop

Honestly, this has been the absolute WORST problem/issue I've had w/my bypass surgery (almost 7 weeks post-op). I have a mini-OTC-pharmacy of fiber, laxatives, stool softeners, etc - ugh. After using Fleet enemas a couple of times (if ok w/your doc, highly recommended for fairly instant relief), I knew that I couldn't do that on a regular basis. Started w/stool softeners -- 2 every other day and stopped taking iron for a few days (also know this can't be a long-term solution). Then I started adding in half of my iron amount, and sure enough, got stopped-up again. Moved to 2 stool softeners every day and hoping/praying that works. As much water as I can drink, as well, which we need anyway... I don't think enough attention is paid to this issue, since I've spent (and I know others have as well...) time crying, straining, hemorroids bleeding (sorry if TMI), and nearly hyperventilating from straining -- it is a serious, can-be-debilitating issue. Just keep trying things until something works for you, and if it gets unbearable, keep bugging your doc/NUT.

    The scoop on poop

My dr said you should definitely go every other day. She suggested Miralax in a shake or prune juice every day until we can get more natural fiber in our diet. I had gone almost a week. On day 6 I finally could go but I had been taking Miralax for three days straight before So who knows how long it would have gone on. I don't think this is a TMI subject. We are all going through this... So keep the scoop on poop talks coming. ????

    Has anyone NOT PB'd??

Slime to me is to pb, to pb does not mean you throw up, like it comes from the toes, it's the relief of that golf ball feeling or stuck feeling with "slime" ....just my opinion. Hope that wasn't TMI.

    Surgery on the 28th

I just urinated for the first time since leaving the hospital and that oddly relieved the pain in one shoulder. I'm sorry if that's TMI but I'm trying to be as specific as possible about my recovery so others can compare and our prepare for their own experiences. I tried waiting 5 hrs between pain meds (rather the prescribed 4) so far I made it to 4.5. Haven't used any of the nausea meds yet I'm guessing I'll need those when I get off the Clear Liquids.
  6. So tonight I was taking a bath and I realized that I fit in the tub a whole lot better. My hips are not stuck up against the sides as much and the water actually flows behind me. BUT more importantly, when I looked in the mirror afterwards, I could actually see my girl parts for the first time in 3 years. Lolol

    Hey Guys!

If you can perform the requisite movements (or have your partner pamper you a bit) without pain, then go for it. *TMI alert - I'm a "missionary position" kind of guy, and it took a week or so for my core to feel "back to normal" enough to have sex. Your results may vary
  8. I'm a nurse tho I don't work in a hospital anymore. I do Home Health and spend my days driving from pt to pt doing dressing changes, labs, teaching, etc. It will be 3 weeks for me on Tues and from the way I feel, there is no way I can go back to work soon. I had a fantastic first week and then went downhill from there. I have not had 2 good days in a row yet and never know what the day will bring. Fortunately, I took a month off so hopefully I will feel better by then. Today I am battling constipation and had to take an enema. (sorry if tmi). Yesterday was great until last night when I had the vomits. I know it will get better that's why I keep reading the success stories on this board. This too shall pass. Sent from my iPad using VST

    Newly sleeved 2.28.13

Jacee, I really hope you will be able to get a good nights rest soon! I agree with the gas pains. My sleep is mainly broken up. I however am not walking a mile and haven't been to a store! I can't speak on behalf of everyone but I am certainly not a petty person and I am here to listen - vent away! I've not gone to BR yet for #2 (TMI), but I think I'm going to call my dr soon so he can prescribe something for me. I might be a little afraid to go too, not sure. Hope I go soon. Our surgery dates are very close in range so it might be nice to keep each other updated as well. Keep me posted on how you're doing. Good luck in March! Let us know how you make out! Prayers your way!

    Number 2?

I think everyone is different but for me i was able to go (TMI but it was like water) wishing 4days out of the hospital. And real solid #2 once I was advanced to soft/solids stage 3 but just this weekend I suffered from constipation to where I cried (yup it was that bad). Today marks exactly 4 weeks Post Op :)
  11. To all those May banders on the pre-op diet...Are you having trouble with constipation? I knew this would happen with so much protein and so little carbs/fiber. This is one of my biggest fears about getting banded. The other more invasive WLS I hear have the opposite problem. I've taken Miralax the last 3 days to no avail. Does anything work for you? Thanks!

    tmi..

So constipated.. Ugh! What can i take?
  13. I was conflicted before I had surgery, I am SOOO happy now. At 12 weeks out tonight we had a special dinner for my son, I had 1/4 cup of brown rice and about 6 oz of strip steak, and a few bites of green beans, A little later I had about a 1/4 cup of oreo ice cream. I was totally comfortable. Now I NEVER eat like this but I am getting ready to start my period (TMI) and it was a special time for my son, the point is I can eat normal foods (just MUCH less) and I can do it comfortably and I am completely satiated afterward because I am full. I highly recommend the sleeve, I can not imagine that you will not be thrilled too. Best wishes to you!

Need to pass gas - just home

Congratulations! I’m day 3 post op and the best advice I can offer is to get up and walk around. It has helped with the gas and bloating. Also TMI, still waiting on a BM. Started taking Myrolax this morning. Hopefully that will get things moving.

Does anyone have a scale addiction?

Totally obsessed here!!! I weigh multiple times a day. Naked with an empty bladder...hmm, I just pooped, let's check again....before dinner...before bed...after exercising. I know it's crazy, but I keep hoping to see the scales move after being barely in Twoterville for so long. My favorite trick (sorry if TMI) is to try to have a bm BEFORE I eat or drink anything: The Ultimate True Weight!!! LOL! Get the straight jacket!
  17. Thank you all for the encouraging words! It's so nice to have you all along with me on this ride! I did hit a stall at 2 weeks and it lasted alittle over 2 weeks. It was awful!!! But finally the scales started moving! I am having some issues with 3 things which could make a huge difference 1. Not getting to my protein goal 2. Not reaching my water goal 3. Sorry tmi but no bowel movements I am trying to reach my protein goals but at 6 weeks it is still difficult. I'm probably getting half my water intake too! Could this be the reason it is going so slow? I haven't weighed myself in 2 days and I'm waiting until tomorrow! I go in to see my sleeve dr in Friday and my goal is a total of 30. I would be happy with 30lbs!!
  18. Right now I am a tad bit irritated. I got banded on Nov.2 and since then I have been losing 2-3 lbs a week and this past week I lost nothing. Maybe TMI but this past week I was in my period. Does this have anything to do with it. I work out 4 times a week for an hr each day. I just need some feedback. I'm kinda worried about not losing weight. Advice please.

    Up at bat

So we removed the pain ball and that went really smoothly the tape being so stuck to the skin was the hardest part. However once the tape was gone the binder that has been keeping me all nice and tight keeps sliding up and down so i put a tank top on then the binder seems to help but my skin is really irritated. So here is tmi if you want to stop reading. I urinate daily and have bm's every other day they are loose and gassy. Today though i had a normal bm. That made me happy lol. It's funny how life works. I can't remember if i already mentioned the spotting but that is still happening the nurses in hospital said it is very common with female patients. Now working on creative ways to make it to 80 grams of Protein and getting in my eight cups. I got close yesterday but still working on it with out hurting my self. Anyways that is my update for those that are interested. Oh and pain is quite a bit better i am now able to shift in bed and give my back a break. Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

    Fruits & Vegetables......

I was afraid to eat veggies and fruit till about 6 months out. They kinda made me feel sick, but I missed them terribly. I am now over a year out, and about 9 months from surgery I started eating salads with just romaine and tomatoes. I now can put any raw veggies in it and not have any problems. I HAVE to have fruit and veggies or I get so constipated that I have actually injured myself. (not going into detail as it is too much tmi) but I now consume at least one salad with 1/2 to 1/4 cup servings of at least 5 different veggies, eat an orange and apple everday, and mix my Protein shake with blueberries in the morning. I only have one Protein Shake a day, but since I lost a LOT of hair, I try to get in at least 75 grams of protein a day. I just have to make sure that I also get in my veggies. I still have problems with grains. They get stuck, and I end up throwing up most of the time. Just not worth it to me. As time goes by, things will get easier. I CAN eat oatmeal in the morning if I decide to mix my vanilla Protein powder in as my milk, and it doesn't make me sick. I love oatmeal, and was told by my pre-op nutritionist that I would never be able to eat it ever again. If I use the shake as the milk, I'm not getting the sugar from the milk. Highest weight: 375 Preop weight: 340 Current weight: 223 VSG - Dr. Chaisson 4/7/2010
  23. Oh, and sorry to ask you to maybe ask you to post TMI but I imagine with the post op diet diarrhea may be a problem.... I have been considering buying diaper rash cream, baby wipes, etc. to minimize discomfort. Have you found this necessary?

First Blog Ever! One Week Post Op

Hi all..New to this site. Let me introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth and I am 48 years old. Been married for 30 years (in April) I am a night L&D nurse. Have struggled with my weight all my life..I know just like most of us have LOL! Today is the beginning of week 2 post op for me. I have my sleeve placed on 8/29/12. I was in the hospital for 2 very long nights. It started of as a early day getting to the hospital at 0530, surgery start time was 0730. Met with my surgeon and my anesthesia guys that I was fortunate to pick ( I am a nurse at the hospital). So I know I was in good hands. Being a nurse does have it advantages but in my case I was really nervouse because I know just a little to much about what goes on LOL. Anyway, I was given Versed before going to the OR..It is a med used to relax you, which I needed. Only remember being in the OR for maybe 3 minutes and the rest is a blank... Woke up in recovery with only a quick second of feeling nauseous and that was it. I was in recovery for about 5 hours while they tried to get the previous patient out of my room hehe Why would anyone like to stay longer than they have too? Moved to my room and did really well. My doctor does not believe in his patients being in pain and gave me meds round the clock and then extra was available if needed. After day one I had to do a swallow study and I passed thank heavens..My mouth was as dry as a desert. Started off with 1 oz of water for 4 hours, then 2 oz for 4 hours then I could drink as much as I could tolerate...I have to say that first sip of water was the best water I have ever tasted.. Been doing really well the first week. Kind of tired from no rest at the hospital ; / Still sore but getting better by the day. Have had no problems with nausea or vomiting. I do have to say that yesterday I had a weird experience. I took my dog to training for the first time since surgery. I was there for maybe 10 minutes and all of a sudden I got the worst stomach pain, broke into a cold sweat and had to leave. I didnlt know if I was going to be sick or worse...the other end...TMI? Barely made it home and since I have been kind of queazy. had some SF pudding last night and I tolerated it well..This AM I am feeling the same, just kind of queazy, crampy like... I am so looking forward to eating a soft diet, I go back to work next Wed night. I want to start eating a little before going back to work to make sure I tolerate it OK.. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing their VGS journey with them... Much love, Elizabeth
  25. Don't mean to hijack your thread, Bob, but feel that this would be a comfy place for me to ask a couple of questions, if you don't mind. History...banded June, 2008 and have been at goal (23lbs below original goal but OK with where I am at and so is doc) since Oct, 2008. At first I was "somewhat" satisfied with my hanging skin on my lower abdomen. I look good in my clothes but feel terrible naked or in underclothes....it hangs out the bottom (tmi). The farther out I get the more the skin seems to hang and bother me. While exercising/walking/exerting myself, the fold becomes icky and irritated. This may seem silly but the problem I am having is with "deserving" to get this problem taken care of. It's almost like I am selling myself short of taking this last step of this journey. Make sense to any of you? As I stated, right after reaching goal I told myself I would be happy with whatever if I looked good in clothes. Now, since it seems to be getting in my way and physically and emotionally bothering me, I feel like I am giving into something that would be egotistical. Silly, I know. Anyone else feel this way?
