First and second stool *TMI* but please help
trinjen posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Early evening yesterday I had my first bowel movement it was a tan/white color. Late evening I coughed and swore I ripped something on the inside but surgeon said as long as the outside is fine I am fine. This morning I pooped again but this time it was the darkest green almost black... Is this normal? 5 days post op. -
I'm on day 4 and honestly i can't really tell what's pain from surgery and what's pain from the lovely monthly visitor that showed up yesterday (i know tmi) between the cramps backache and over tenderness of the abdomen area I'm just miserable today. I think I'm going have my husband get me a heating pad for my back. Hopefully that will help some.

I am 2+ years post sleeve. How much is too much water in a day? I find that if I’m not drinking ~3L/day or more, I get headaches and feel terrible. To do this and also not be drinking during/around meals, I am constantly drinking through out the day - and also constantly peeing. Sorry if TMI. Lately my PCP doctor made me feel like that is unusually high. The national academies recommendation is 3.7L for adult men per day. Just wondering if there is an upper limit for Bariatric patients. I hear 64oz thrown around here but that seems low to me as a long term goal, perhaps something to aim for closer to surgery day - I would be dehydrated on that little at this point....especially if I’m regularly exercising. How much water do you drink per day?

It's just a timing thing! So long as you're doing what you should, the numbers will drop. One thing at this particular point is that part of the weight you've already lost was from your intestines "emptying" during the liquid diets, both pre- and post-op. They were clean as a whistle! Once you get off liquids, your body starts to create bowel movements which increase your weight a bit. Once you get regular, it all evens out. Sorry if that's TMI.

This might be TMI but since surgery every time I am intimate I get so much pain and urgency to pee it isn't ever a bladder infection. It's driving me to the point of tears because I want to be intimate with my partner but it hurts so much after. The doctors don't seem to care and I'm losing my mind.... I don't know how I'm screwing this up, but I feel like I am.

Greetings, First time post, occasional lurker I had surgery 3/5, and I feel like I'm so far off base in terms of my choices, and/or behavior, and/or expectations that I could really use some information, affirmations, or consolations. So quick rundown: After I followed the post-op diet for nine days exactly as given. For me that was low/no fat Greek yogurt, tomato soup made with milk, protein shakes, and water. After losing my IV weight I continued on for the next week and a half to lose a little more than 10 pounds. After that I've flatlined, and it's going on three weeks. I'm starting to panic. To be fair I currently have a really stuffy headcold and I finished my period (sorry, if that's TMI) about 10 days ago. I know that I fluctuate weight-wise when both of these things happen, but even between the cold and my lady-times I've been relatively stable; but taken together with the amount of time that's passed and that my water weight is usually only +/- 5 pounds, I feel like I really am at a standstill. My current diet is something like this: Weekdays - protein shake for breakfast, either a yogurt or some low-fat cottage cheese as a snack (90-130 cal) - if I'm especially hungry I'll sometimes have a "little plate" usually a prepackaged cheese/nut/meat tray (~160-220 cal), variable lunch (sometimes egg beaters with fat free feta, sometimes creamy soup, sometimes leftover dinner, (today's a leftover dinner day - salad with goat cheese, apples, and crispy onions with fat free dressing). I usually have another snack, same as the morning snack after that and dinner is usually some animal protein, though last night I had the previously mentioned salad and some lamb. Weekends are more variable, but I try to stick to similar meals. I'm usually getting my 60 oz of water, but lately with my sore throat, I've been falling short. I'm hitting my goal of 60g of protein almost every day. I haven't had any rice or bread, but I did have noodles in soup once, and in a frozen dinner (leftover from my pre-surgery diet). I'm incorporating raw vegetables now, so far without any problems. I don't eat candy, anything caffeinated, or carbonated, and haven't for two months. I've tried reaching out to my nutritionist and she keeps telling me that the important thing is that I hit my protein and water goals. She also told me that avocado might be a bad choice for my diet, so I haven't had those for a couple of weeks. Still I feel like I'm somehow failing this stage, and I could really use some input. The only hopeful thing on my horizon is that I'm cleared to do more physical activity this week, so I plan to join the gym here at work. I'm on a big campus, so it isn't going to be convenient, but I'm going to try to get there twice a week to start. So, forum collective, any thoughts? I'll appreciate anything that you can suggest. Thanks. -
I’m 8 days post op sleeve. Bowel movements are small but black!! Anyone relate? Thoughts?

This is TMI for sure...but did anyone else have diarrhea on the second and third day post op? Everything I’ve read says constipation is a problem after surgery but I’m finding that to be quite the opposite for me. Tell me I’m not alone. HW: 420 SW:320 CW: 288 GW: 185 Sleeve: 03/26/18

I have had the opposite AND there is a new sweet smell (sorry for the TMI). I am very sensitive to smells right now, so it could be nothing. I have no symptoms.

This is new to me. I'm 5 weeks out. Yesterday I ate a few bites of raw coconut. It didnt have an immediate affect so I thought it was fine. An hour later I had 5, yes five wheat thins. And one ounce of chicken. About an hour later I was down and out. I thought I may be going through 'dumping'. Nope for the next 7 hours I vomited the foamys, thought my chest was going to explode, had pain in my back right below the shoulder blades and couldn't lay down. I tried small sips of water, an antacid, and a pain pill . I finally vomited what looked like the coconut but it was dark in color-- tmi? Sorry. I was really starting to worry. Just now after 8 hours can I almost lay down and don't have as severe pain as I did. WTH! Is this going to be a normal addition to what I'm already dealing with?

I agree with so many of the things you listed... Painting toes without hassle. Not always being the fattest/biggest one in photos and trying to hide behind people (hard to do since I'm only 5'1")! And not being the fat sister. Having a slim face and body - not needing filters or photo editing to make me look better before letting people see photos of me. Not needing to buy XXL shirts/dresses or plus size bottoms, or having fat feet. Can't wait to wear cute clothes and shoes again!! Might be TMI, but not feeling like I'm going to pull a back muscle or break my arm trying to take care of business in the bathroom. Strange thing to realize over time that this would be difficult, but I guess it makes sense that the backside gets bigger just as the rest of me has. Not being in chronic pain or feeling exhausted just walking or trying to do anything physical. Keeping up with my active kids and not just watching from the sidelines. Not wanting to eat so often or so much. Thanks for starting this thread! Love the encouragement and support for each other on our journeys. Let's keep it going! I'm hoping to get approved in April and sleeved in late May. And, to respond to another post, I'm in Colorado.

I had been having issues with things moving like they should! With all the protein I was locked up tighter than Fort Knox! Mom was a health food nut and told me about psyllium awhile ago, I now take magnesium pills twice a day as well as taking several psyllium capsules a day. The combination of the two keeps me "regular" without having to worry about a complete blow out. (sorry if that is TMI) One great thing about the psyllium is that it also absorbs grease and cholesterol so it is serving a dual purpose!

Any March 2018 Sleevers?
NelliSleeve replied to NelliSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WARNING, THIS IS TMI!! Had my first bowel movement since surgery. I had my prior one the morning of surgery. It was a very painful experience!!! My colon was contracting on its own, working to try and push things out. It literally took 2 hours to finally come out. Once it did it was hard and the thickest most compacted turd i had ever seen in my life but what a relief. I'm sure that had to be 3 pounds. -
Hahaha! I was just gonna ask this!!! TMI, but it took me about 6-8 "good size" poops to clear out from the pre-surgery liquid diet blues. I kid you not!!!! And today I had a small one and I was like, "Whatchoo hidin' in there Willis that I don't know about. I know you've got more for me, cuz it's been 3 days and about 2 1/2cups of solid food." ROFLMFAO!!! Hope the doc's fix has you feeling better and able to hydrate quickly! It sounds like EXACTLY what I had that sent me to the ER. Severe cramps even when taking a sip of water or ice chip and super nausea/bloating. ((hugs))

The burping seams to be normal. Let it all out. This morning I woke up and it didn’t kill to get out of bed this morning. Also this maybe TMI but I passed a lot of gas the night before. My doc gave me GasX and it seams to be working. Soreness is a lot less this morning and the bloating has gone down considerably. Hang in there.

I've had this issue before where I felt really bloated after eating really small amounts of stuff. TMI: Needed to poop! Are you constipated at all? I took something to help that issue and the next day all was well

Same as@bradleyY, I just got home today from the hospital. I have five incision sites that seem to be healing nicely and I've almost no pain from these. The gas pain is a different matter altogether and it seems to be taking some time for it to sort itself out. My diet today in the hospital started with a natural yoghurt and half a banana smoothie with a teaspoon of honey. I could only manage about 100mls before I was full. It had the effect though of getting my bowels going and boy did they go! (Sorry TMI I know). My energy levels are fairly low at the moment and a 30 min nap in the recliner tuned into three hours. Hopefully that won't stop me from sleeping later, but given I felt like I was conducting a snoring orchestra in the 4 bed ward I was in last night, I'm not surprised that I slept today. Overall, I feel really happy about my decision to have the sleeve so far and I've had great support from my wife and kids. I haven't told my wider family group yet about the specific surgery that I had, but that's a discussion for a different day.

ESG Progress Updates For Accountability
Tex Slim 66 replied to hope4momof4's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hope4momof4, thanks for the compliment!! Really like the ticker!! Your diet looks pretty good to me, very similar to mine. Your exercise routine is also really good. How long is the stall this time and what was the rate of weight loss before it? It's frustrating I know, I'm in another one now, I've been at 265 lbs for a week and hoping to drop some this weekend or next week. I would keep going with water and/or crystal light for fluids intake. Only thing I can suggest is to think about stopping the protein drinks. As I was at my 6 week appointment I was still doing the liquid diet and my Dr. really challenged me to get off liquid protein and go to all solid food. His thought process was that these liquid calories (140 - 200 per drink box) are very easily ingested and the stomach pocket doesn't fill when you eat, this doesn't help the feeling of satiety (being full). He was really adamant that liquid calories were to be avoided as much as possible, even if lean protein. One other observation about the protein drinks (this may be TMI for some) when I was drinking 2 or more them in a day my lower GI wasn't really processing them that well (kind of being constipated on a long term basis). As I stopped drinking protein drink about week 8 I noticed that I became more regular and the volume of waste increased. If you stopped the protein drinks you could consider going to 2 whole eggs to get more protein instead of the egg whites. "Food for thought" Haha! Let me know how it goes and what works, Tex -
8 days post op. This is TMI but I managed to poop today for the first time after surgery! I am so relieved. It was firm but it wasn't hard to pass. I don't even know how I managed to do so when all I've been having is broth, herbal tea, fat free greek yogurt, and water. I am not hydrating as well as I should though, I think I get in 30-35 oz of water a day. My doctor recommended 65 oz at least. I am hoping other liquids count.

I'll provide a somewhat detailed summary of how it went: Sunday 9am: At this point I already spent the night at the hospital, they have taken two samples of my blood, gave me a Vitamin B12 injection on my butt (Which surprisingly is one of the most painful things in this whole ordeal), and taken a couple of injections to help blood flow. I was taken down to the OT where they had me lay down on the operation table itself. They began preparing things around me (putting things under my legs and holding my hands down.. thinking about it now it felt like I was being splayed and tied on a table with a mad doctor on my head with a mask going BREATH! DEEP BREATH! BREATH!.. next thing I know that Breath yelling became WAKEY WAKEY!!!!... Sunday 11:30am: The Nausea is unreal. That is and will be the worst thing to experience throughout the initial recovery. I was sent back to my room where I was set up with a morphine me button. Most of that day I was in an out of sleep and morphine (I only pressed the button 10 times to avoid over morphine usage)... The discomfort was real, the back and shoulder pain was tremendous from the bed. I kept doing a breathing exercise using this device to measure how much air is filling the lungs. It really helped reduce a lot of the discomfort. You feel like you want to burp/throw up but nothing happens. Its just there and its super frustrating. Sunday 4:00pm: I got out of bed and began walking around. this really helped finally setting some of the gasses from my stomach. Sunday 9pm: Finally I farted.. Sounds odd to mention it here but it was a bless letting out the gas collected in my stomach from them pumping so much air into it. At this point the Nausea slowly began to reduce and the stomach feels like a bubbling monstrosity slowly calming down. Back pain from laying down too much and the bed being uncomfortable was worse than the stomach issues. Monday 7am: At this point I felt a looot better in terms of the Nausea but stomach discomfort was still there. Overall much better than Sunday's feeling. Back still aching even though I have been walking every 2 hours for 15 minutes. Monday 10:30 am: Gastro Graphine Xray time. I went downstairs, had to drink a yellowish liquid (unlike the chalky white one pre-op). They requested a little bit of a big gulp.. Nope couldn't handle it, threw up immediatly and wow that came out of my stomach? Erm... is this okay? yes.. all that dried blood and stuff is fine, its your body cleaning itself. Monday 9pm: Finally began going to the bathroom regularly. This might be TMI but its something people should keep in mind as a marker when doing it. I finally managed to go to the bathroom and poop.. I won't describe how it looked but I can tell you that the release of gas and fluids was such a relief. At this point I have thrown up total of 3 times, Once in the gastro Graphine, and twice outside. All three due to taking a little bit of a bigger gulp. I kinda did the 3rd one on purpose to test my limitation of what I can handle.. Tuesday 7am: Nausea is about 70% gone from OP day. Stomach discomfort and bubbling still there but not so bad. There are some sharp pains from the wound area but that is when I touch them or move in a way that causes them to get agitated. Doctor passed by and cleared me to leave. Tuesday 12:30pm: Left the hospital. Tuesday 9:30 pm: at this point I felt very weak, very tired as I didn't have any good sleep since the night before the operation. My body has gone through much. I have some mild discomfort in the stomach that comes and goes with the bubbling effect. Wed 8:00 am: What a load of difference today feels than the previous days. Nasea is about 98% gone. Its a little there but nothing you can't ignore. Stomach bubbling calmed down a lot. It really feels like there is a worm breakdancing in there when it happens. My fluid intake since that moment until now has been regular with no issues or any pain. Right now its just slow recovery time. Most of the pain/issues are gone. Now its slowly understanding your stomach and the new diet.

Hi everyone! Glad to have found this forum and hoping some of the experienced folks here might be able to help me understand if what I'm experiencing is normal. I'm 8 days post-op (surgery date was 2/26) and it went relatively smoothly except for being held an extra day inpatient because of difficulty swallowing liquids. Starting about day 5-6, I started having a really hard time swallowing again as well as some pretty bad diarrhea (sorry tmi). I've been regularly experiencing nausea and different types of abdominal pain including feeling like I just took a punch to the middle of my abdomen and a stitch-like feeling across my upper abdomen. Because of this I feel like I'm having trouble getting enough calories/hydration in. I can manage 300-400 calories per day and maybe 20 oz of water on a good day. I feel pretty weak and have almost passed out a couple times. It doesn't feel like a texture issue exactly, more like I just can't fit any more in there, if that makes any sense. Anyway, sorry for the long first post. I'm just really at a loss. I tried calling my doctor and they weren't very helpful so I'm hoping to just get a sense of others' experiences. Thank you!! ❤️
