    Hello from Germany

:welcome: Hello Sabine! I'm glad you found LBT! Adjustments by remote-control huh? Sounds exciting! After you get an adjustment, does you doctor require you to stay on liquids for a day or two, or can you continue eating as normal? And congrats on your weight loss! That's great!
  4. Hello! I would like to start this thread by assuring all readers that I love my band. I have been banded for 3 months now. Even if I never lost another pound, I understand things about food and eating that I never did before. For instance, what full feels like. Or, the joys of bringing home leftovers from a restaurant. Or, not feeling like I have to order the largest plate on the menu and eat multiple large helpings in order to feel satisfied. Actually, eating is now more enjoyable because I can savor it, rather than shovel it. With that being said, I have to admit that I'm quite an impatient person. I understand that I have an underlying desire for all things to happen immediately as I want them. In regards to the band, weight loss is feeling slow. So far, I've lost 25 pounds since day of surgery. I suppose in three months, I expected to be losing more. It would be my goal to lose 100 pounds by my first 'bandiversary'. Are there any veterans who can speak to what feels like a slow start? Do the first few months have a tendency to feel like a shit show? I know this sounds ridiculous, but how important is exercise in motivating results? I know people have lost plenty of weight without it, but is that really an effective approach? Can anyone speak to how they felt after their first 3 months or so. This is an interesting time in the life of a bander. It almost feels like being a toddler. I can say that my experience has been fantastic. Never have I experienced sickness, pain, or any other undesirable moments. I'm interested to know when veterans starting "seeing" results. And please, (kindly) feel free to tell me I'm being a little whiny, impatient banded toddler. It's confusing because who really knows what normal is? It is an entirely subjective situation. It's like going to the doctor and being asked if you have a "normal period." How the hell am I supposed to know if it's normal, I've had no other experience but my own! Thanks all!!!

    Would love a little encouragement

as long as one is losing (fast for us larger folks usually at the beginning) and slower in some cases for others for various reasons, it should be seen as a happy thing..its not a contest or a race, it is a lifetime/healthy way of living and dont compare..... inches lost are actual/true weight loss even if the scales stop moving or slowly move... no such thing as stalls in my eyes...it will catch up eventually sounds like you are doing great no encouragement needed to be giving to you your weight loss so far and your better health is encouragement enough. well done

New to the forum from Dallas!

Good luck with your journey! I am considering the gastric sleeve surgery for myself. I was considering the lap band a year ago and then backed out right before surgery because of my overwhelming fear and no family support. I recently went back to the weight loss center and they said they might be doing away with the lap band and that I should go with the gastric sleeve instead. I am going to back to weight loss support groups. I hate I don't have my dad's support. I am more scared than excited at this point.

    Keranique????

This is great info! I am scheduled for the sleeve on October 3rd and that is one of my concerns, thinning hair. I have been taking Hair, Skin, and Nails which has biotin in it but I am going to add the coconut oil treatment. I am so glad I joined this site!!

    Keranique????

Yes! I use Sally Beauty's leave in & also use their hydrating hair mask. I take Biotin & Omega 3 Fish Oil, as well as the bariatric chewable multi vitamin & The Calcium Citrate Chewy Bite. My hair's thick & curly, stylists say nuclear, which means I can do pretty much anything/everything to it & it is beautiful (everyone comments & complements on it which is so sweet) so I also warm a 1/2 cup of organic coconut oil & put it on once weekly (overnight) starting from the ends up to the roots. Both my sisters are cosmetologists, now working in other fields, so anytime I've got a q, I get the straight scoop from them (they trained me to do their hair, since I'm an artist, but now I live in a different state & they miss me a lot). My hair's thinned out since surgery, but not in a bad way as far as I'm concerned. I thank God for this & everything. Lastly, I go to the 3 support groups my surgeon offers for free every month: psychologist to deal with food issues, nutrition/nutritionist & bariatric support for post-op patients with him & his partner. Tomorrow's nutrition, so if I learn anything, I'll tell ya. For example, I live in Las Vegas, NV which is hotter than hell, but after losing over 60 lbs in the past 3.5 mos, I'm always cold (except when I'm exercising). Hope my reply helps. Namaste. New long eyelashes

Is it safe to take a double dose. My eyelashes might grow down to my nose, but maybe my hair will be better! HW. 289 SW. 284 Height. 5’8
  11. I'm only almost half way thru in my weight loss journey. People are noticing and clothes are fitting better BUT my tummy is in the way. I can't wear anything besides frumpy if I want to cover it. I know when I'm done losing I will need a tummy tuck but do any of you know of any treatments at any of these med spas that actually work? I've seen body wraps and lipo injections etc.
  12. I too wish we had a support group for just sleevers, but we get lumped in with the RNYers. It's okay, and I've only met one other sleever at support group (been sleeved almost 5 months). I really don't miss my old way of eating and I absolutely adore that I can be full on such tiny portions. I truly think that the biggest part of the success of the sleeve is directly linked to the loss of ghrelin. I could easily defeat my WL efforts by eating Cookies, candy and ice cream. But I truly want to make this a success. Now my husband was just sleeved 2 weeks ago. He is on mushies but the notes from our surgeon extremely limit the choices of mushies. He is really missing food right now. I hope it is temporary.
  13. This is an interesting little article, very true. http://www.personalbestpersonaltraining.com/health-fitness-truth-blog/ Mr Jachut struggles mightily with the exercise but sedentary all day thing. Its work dictated and personality driven for him, as it is for many, desk jobs are killers but he doesnt like exercise (he didnt even need a lapband for his eating habits, he's a great eater. But due to his chronic lack of activity he needs to eat very very little and he couldnt do it alone) . But it always amazes me how many people say I'm not losing weight but I walk for half an hour a day. Everyone has to start somewhere, but for exercise to really be effective, you have to get serious about it. And I think one of the biggest challenges with WLS is not to become a skinny fat person. Fast fast weight loss is not good. You're losing muscle. If you ever want that curvy, fit look, you need to take it slower and work on keeping your muscles.

    Unsatisfied with food!

hmmm... I guess I am a creature of habit and eat a lot of the same things every day and do not get bored. Your menu looks pretty much like mine. But I do believe your taste will return, it takes time. You are very early out. Looks like you are getting plenty of protein...don't forget your Water. Your weight loss is great. Does your plan allow some fruit yet? How about half an apple or banana with some Peanut Butter as a snack instead of a yogurt. i would peel the skin off the apple. I find I really enjoy these "treats" but only eat them sparingly because of the carb content. Tuna salad on cucumber slices? have you tried making your meat with some type of sauce or gravy? Chicken marsla, lemon chicken, meatloaf, meatballs with either brown gravy or spaghetti sauce....so you are not eating plain meat? One of my favorite and easy ways to cook chicken is to cut up boneless breast into cubes, season with salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, brown it in a little oil and then add a can of cream of chicken soup(and the water or milk as directed)and let simmer until done. I add dumplings for the rest of my family but the chicken is moist and tasty from the Soup. Google some crock pot recipes...makes meat moist and juicy and the cooking liquid/gravy adds flavor. You'll get there!
  16. My surgeon was strict with meeting his weight loss requirements; if you did not weigh below his designated weight loss number for you by the day of your pre op appointment, you were not scheduled for your surgery. No exceptions. I was advised of this, so I was determined to make it happen and have my weight where it needed to be or lower. What have you been doing in an effort to loose weight? I followed the band diet pre op to loose weight (lean Proteins, low carb Fiber, strict portion control), and I got an hour of cardio exercise in every day. I lost 13 pounds in 21 days...8 pounds under what I needed to loose. Best wishes for success...it can be done, but it takes focus and a realistic timeline.
  17. I am so excited...my BMI is finally below 40! Have lost 25.6 lbs since starting the pre-surg diet and BMI is 39.8. This is hard to believe. Seeing this happen makes it so much easier to deal with the challenges of weight loss!:laugh0::001_tt2::thumbup::biggrin0::biggrin0::biggrin2:

What kind of exercise is "moderate"?

congrats on your weight loss... i use the elliptical trainer for 30-minutes a day - 4-days a week... I was doing an hour prior to being banded.. I don't want to over do it.. but i would ask the Dr. to see what they say for you... But what u are doing as far as walking is fine.. i would not try running yet.. just my opinion...

    New to Lapbandtalk

Prosebud, I am a slow loser. I have lost about 33 lbs since my surgery in June. Don't be discouraged. It is difficult to only lose 1 lb a week. I am considered normal by my surgeon though. Best of luck to you on your continued weight loss.

    Tummy bump help?!

You can't target weight loss. You could do 1000 crunches a day and all you'll end up with is a nice six pack UNDER a layer of fat. The weight's going to come off where it wants to come off. The body is very stubborn that way. Toning through strength training only visibly helps when you have a very low body fat percentage. Trust me. I know a LOT about this. I have ridiculous amounts of weight on my hips and thighs. I run or bike 4-6 days a week and do lower body strength training 3 times a week. All my fat is still coming off places like my face, ribs, arms, back.....
  23. Thanks Lori Ann. Congrats on your weight loss....WAY TO GO !

    Hit my 9 Month Goal!!!

Hi! I count my calories, carbs & of course protein! I try keeping the calories between 800-1000, carbs under 45 and my protien needs to be around the 70 g mark.. but again, I am a larger than normal person... I walk, outside if possible if not I am on treadmill... I do 3 miles approx 5 days a week. I really had a tough time in July & August.....looking back now, I really feel I was not pushing the Water as much. It also was a very socially active copule of months and enjoyed a few cocktails which impacted my weight loss. I am back on track now and so badly want to hit "onederland" by Christmas! I cant think of a better Christmas present!!

That is fantastic. How did you do it? What type of exercise are you doing? I am just stuck at 6 months at a 45lb loss..I started at 240 and I am currently at 179. The doc at my 6 months check up was a bit disappointing..
