    September Surgery Buddies!!

I had my op 15 Sept - and was doing so well for the first 3 months. Weight loss slowed in Dec and on a stall since Jan. I started at 93Kg - and sat at 73Kg. So lost around 44lbs. I have at least another 10Kg to go - but am also worried about the length. Feel like it just stopped working. Other seems to have lost double and who started at same weight so a bit disheartened ☹️Will need to see dietician.

    Weight loss after surgery

While all weigh loss is excellent, it would be helpful if you filled in your profile, starting weight, height, current weight so as to give context to your query.

Working out and eating too much

Your body will need more sustenance to maintain your exercise levels, you will need to eat more. The balance will be how much more. If you aren't losing weight eat a little less than 1600cals and keep adjusting down. There may be a pause on weight loss at the moment which is not related to weight gain due to additional calories, but if your muscles are really sore after each workout, your body is very likely retaining fluid to help repair the muscles. If you are really sore you may also be building lean body mass but this wouldn't be happening as fast you'd think it would and hopefully you are losing body fat at the same time.

Working out and eating too much

Aah. The awful truth about exercising. The more you do the hungrier you feel as your body tries to replace the energy you burnt while exercising. Athletes eat carbs to boost their energy because it burns quickly but we’re advised to avoid carbs while losing. Have a chat with your dietician & see if there is a way to tweak your current eating plan to compensate without adding too many calories. I was allowed rolled oats from purée as a low processed, more nutritious, more filling, whole grain. Maybe that’s a option for you. At least the exercise helps keep your metabolism running efficiently. PS. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

    Weight loss after surgery

A loss of 30 pounds is great. You’re not going to lose those large amounts of weight like they do on shows like My 600lb Life unless you’re 600+lbs. Even their rate of lose slows as their weight gets lower. There’s a few things to can rely on during this process. The more you have to lose the faster you’ll lose in the beginning. The closer to goal the slower your rate of loss. And most importantly, we lose at our own rate. Has your surgeon, dietician GP said you’re losing too slowly? If not you’re golden. Celebrate every pound you lose. It’s an amazing achievement

    Hello, any veterens around?

Not sure i qualify as a veteran. I’ll be 4 years out in July. Lost 100 and have maintained that weight loss. Best decision I ever made. Only regret was that I didn’t do this sooner. 😊

    Who's around??!!

Great job on that weight loss! That's doing it the hard way.
  9. Dang it! I've given up sodas and margaritas!! No problem hijacking the thread. It's nice to have some friendly banter. I hope my body is not decided it's done losing. I'm like 2 lbs from Onderland. I'd be happy with another 15 lb loss. I could be at peace there I think. I see my doctor in another 2 weeks for the one year visit. I'll ask him. He'll tell me it's head hunger, I bet. Prob is. Thanks, everyone!

    At home dance workout programs??

Is it Body Groove? It's a bunch of people in what looks like a dance studio... the leaders has long dark hair, I think. I've done some of them on YouTube and I like them. I also found a guy who does Zumba on YouTube, and I like his stuff. He's Zumba Sulu.

    Weight loss after surgery

It depends what your weight is on the day of surgery. I mean those that have more to lose often lose faster, those that have less to lose often lose slower. But there's so many factors that determine weight loss. Two informative calculators to use that can guide you on your weight loss journey is the BMR and TDEE.
  12. Weight loss I’m nearing the 3month period & have only loss 30 pounds. I’ve started working out daily 30 minutes a day in the mornings. Do any one have any thoughts on this issue?
  13. Hey, so I am in the early process of the getting the sleeve done. I have two more "supervised weight loss" appointments and my anxiety is through the roof. As a requirement for my insurance, I cannot gain any weight. I go next week for my weigh in and obsessing over it. I was down 8 pounds, and now I am down 5 pounds, but I still have six days to go. And then I cannot gain any weight from the previous weigh in. Anyone else feel stressed about this requirement? The whole point of the surgery is because we cannot lose weight easily or even maintain the weight. Any advice?

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

Do you exercise? That's what made a huge difference for me. With my somatotype, I have to exercise or else I don't do as well. As you lose weight and your BMR decreases, sometimes you have to adjust your calories so you keep losing. That's why exercise helps me so much. Best wishes on your continued weight loss journey!

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

I know everyone's calorie intake can vary, but at seven years out, I'd gain weight if I ate 1800 every day (I eat that much sometimes, but if I did it consistently, my weight would start heading north pretty quickly). at a year out, I was eating about 1000-1200 calories/day. You may want to try lowering your calories a bit to see if it kickstarts your weight loss again. You may have inadvertently put yourself into maintenance, and it sounds like you want to continue to lose.

    Excess skin after WLS

There are several factors that influence how much excess skin you will have: age, gender, weight loss history, how long you’ve been overweight, genetics, etc. I was almost 54 when I had my surgery. I had been at my high weight for about 4 yrs. Before that I bounced between 60 & 75 kgs. When I reached my goal of 60kg I had hardly any loose skin. A little on my inner upper thighs, a little on my upper arms & my tummy. Just little pinches really. I was pretty pleased with myself. Then I dropped the extra weight & there was noticeably more loose skin. I’ve chosen not to have surgery because I can cover the loose skin with my clothes including body conscious dresses & I don’t wear ‘suck it in & hold it tight’ underwear. I do pick clothes that don’t reveal or highlight the loose skin - no shoe string straps, no shorty shorts but they don’t appeal to me anyway. Do people notice or comment? Not that I’m aware of & believe my mum would say something. 😉 I’ve even been told I have lovely arms but then I don’t wave them about in the air. 😁 I look at my loose skin as something I’ve worked hard to earn by losing the weight. I’d rather have some loose skin than carry all that weight. But that’s me.

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

Congratulations on your weight loss that is amazing! Celebrate that Queen because without the surgery you would mid have accomplished that on your own. And don’t compare yourself to others weight loss. All you can do is evaluate your own habits, nutrient intake and your overall diet, if you feel you could have been more disciplined make those adjustments now and continue to enjoy your efforts you look great!

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

Sleeve and Lap Band operate under a high pressure system. It puts a lot of pressure on your esophageal sphincter. Some people with these surgeries develop issues with GERD and esophageal motility issues years after having their surgeries. Sure GERD will go away with weight loss, but after years of high pressure on the sphincter, GERD can manifest again. I had a Lap Band for seven years and had it removed a year ago due to GERD and revising to RNY soon.

    Long term success

You are right, its going to be up to me on the success of my weight loss future. I'm starting to look into the keto diet and the meal plan. I do know the dr I'm going too does not want you to eat red meat or pork for 1 year. I'm not sure I can go a year with out red meat lol.

    Excess skin after WLS

Thanks. And congrats on your weight loss journey. My health insurance doesn't cover and weight loss stuff. So I'll be out of pocket on the sleeve surgery that I plan on getting soon. I'm hoping my extra skin won't look to bad 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Long term success

Wow this is great to hear. I know that everyone's weight loss journey is didn't. I'm going to be self pay and that a lot of money to just turn around and gain it all back. So I'm really scared that I will fail.
  22. I am 6 months out and I feel that am not losing any weight is this normal to feel like this ? My scale I have 2 of them and they both say am different when I weigh myself and sometimes I feel that am not gonna loss anymore wight is this normal to feel like this ?
  23. There are a lot of sources that talk about a "3 week stall" that describes a temporary (maybe 1-4 weeks) halt in weight loss right around this time-- don't worry, it's normal! I've read that it's the body reacting and adjusting to the change (and making sure it's not starving). Some people say they have a big drop right after the stall ends and that they have other signs of 'progress' during this time. It might be a good decision to weigh yourself less frequently, like once a week or so, so that you don't agonize too much over the micro-ups/downs. I personally hit this stall for about a week, quickly lost another 7 lbs and then hovered there for another couple of weeks. Keep doing what you are doing, you are totally on the right track!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hello everyone! Happy to see that you are doing well! My surgery was on November 24, I lost 57 lb, which is 70% of my weight loss goal. Felling great, no issues at all. I had couple stalls, the last one was almost three weeks long. Last week I noticed that I can eat bigger portions of solid foods without feeling restrictions. Do you guys feel less restrictions too? How much of solid food can you eat at once, like one cup or less?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Congratulations on your loss so far. Hopefully your goodwill is set up better than mine with jeans. At Mine they are in no order whatsoever and they are so crammed on the rack it’s near impossible to sort through. I spent two hours trying to go through and still went home empty handed. If yours is bad too you could also try tjmaxx if you have one for jeans. I found some off brand jeans there for 20 bucks and even the Michael Kors jeans I found were $25 and they weren’t even on clearance. Its doesn’t compete with goodwill deals of course but I was surprised at the reasonable prices.
