    What's for lunch today?

Now I can have salads again I had a chicken Caesar salad. I had some pre cooked diced chicken , toss with some romaine and shaved Parmesan. I like Marzettis yogurt based light Caesar dressing. I can’t eat what I used to, but I’m enjoying eating real food instead of shakes and such for sure! I made turkey chili last week and froze half of it for next week maybe.

    I’m HUNGRY

I would wait to see your doctor. I'm 7 weeks out and I saw my doctors last Thursday and gave me the all clear to eat normal foods and told me to experiment with different kinds of foods. You should try scrabble eggs and anything you can MASH up you can have so you don't have to just have potatoes, cream of wheat, or yogurt. You got this! 3. Hey everyone! I had my surgery 21 days ago, and I am currently on the soft foods stage. I AM MISERABLE!!! If I eat anymore mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, or yogurt, I’m going to lose it. Is it too early to attempt to start eating solid foods? Or can anyone give me ideas of other things to eat?

    What's for lunch today?

I have been wanting to make these, just haven't done it yet. I bet they would be good with my homemade yogurt-ranch spinach dip, hummus, and a lot of other things.

    What's for lunch today?

@OneDollarBill Great idea! I have 3 of them from Santa! I now can't wait to cook in them as well as use them for freezer!!! @Creekimp13 I'm completely off track today. I didn't rest until 5am, then slept until 11am. (Snow day in Houston, TX. It's official, hell has frozen over...) So I just ate my cottage cheese slop: 1/4c Greek yogurt, plain 85g Daisy 2% cottage cheese 1 1/2oz Premier Vanilla Protein RTD 1/2 eye dropper Vitacost liquid vanilla stevia 28g frozen blueberries 8.5g sliced blanched almonds 6.5g Fiber One cereal Nutritional Information: 201 cals; 22g protein; 6g fat; 17g carbs; 5g fiber; 12g net carbs This holds me a good 4-5 hours without hunger. It is about 1cup of food, slightly rounded. I also make it with Granny smith apple, cinnamon, walnuts rather than the blueberries and almonds. Sorry no piccys. Next time!

    No Appetite/Pain

I was sleeved on 12/20/2017. I also have no appetite. I may get 15 grams of protein a day. It takes me 2 hours to eat a 6oz yogurt. Water sits to heavy in my stomach so I have mixed in SF Kool Aid packets into it and it goes down a lot better. I have learned the hard way that I have to take extremely small sips at one time, and take small spoonful of food spaced out in order for me to feel normal. Otherwise it feels like it gets stuck in my chest area. I hate to admit this, but this process is for some reason way harder than I had originally thought. I am hopeful things even out and get better as time progresses.

    Calcium

I never took the chewables. As long as it's the correct dose of Calcium Citrate...you're golden. Honestly? I just pop them in a glass with a little hot water or coffee and wait for them to soften a little...then I munch them up and swallow them. I get the big chalky monsters that are the size of a June bug. They have the taste and consistency of plaster of Paris going down...but meh...i'm cheap. It saves a buck and it's not so bad. I used to use a pill crusher and put the powder in sugar free Kool whip or yogurt.
  8. Everything you're feeling is normal. It can be crazy difficult to try and sort through all the feelings and signals that your body is giving you. The nerves to your stomach are in complete disarray right now. It will take some time for your new tiny stomach to get in synch with your brain. We all experience it differently but typically when you’re in the liquids only stage (which does include Jello) you may never actually experience a full sensation. Liquids pass through much faster than solid foods, and things like Jello break down and turn back to a liquid state quickly so unless you eat too much too fast you’ll likely never get a full feeling. Measuring out your portions and taking time between bites is key at this stage. When I was able to start having yogurts I used a baby spoon. I’d take a bite (if you can call it that) and then set it aside for a few minutes. Then I’d try again and repeat. It can be maddening when it takes half an hour to eat a couple ounces of yogurt but being patient is worth it. Allowing yourself a few minutes between bites will give your body some time to send signals saying “hey…back off now.” Just be sure you’re accurately measuring your protein & water intake. As long as you’re hitting your daily goals and getting your vitamins in you’ll be good on the nutrient side of things.
  9. I am 5 weeks post op. Doing great until I added food! At first I vomited only some things. Now almost all things- eggs- re fried beans-yogurt-ground beef- mashed carrots. Surgeon wants to do an endoscopy- has this happened to anyone else? Liquids/protein shakes are fine.

Kind of worried - daily calorie intake

@Creekimp13 May I ask what your pre-op diet was? Bethesda = Walter Reed? I'm in Maryland, my surgery in Annapolis, but I am keeping an eye on Hopkins' requirements, too. Avoiding ultra low-calories for an extended period makes a lot of sense. My surgeon's one unique insight at our orientation is that sleevers lose as much as bypassers at 5 years. He is allowing us to eat low carb (I've calculated 800 cals) for our pre-surgery diet: 3 meals with 4 oz protein, 3 fruits and/or yogurts, 2 T salad dressing, some nut proteins, and veges.
  11. I'm sorry to hear the pain and stress you are feeling. You have not wrecked your sleeve. Start small on your selfcare. Some things to think about or try... Your stress seems to be at home. Doing activities out of the house might clear your mind. Go for a walk or to the library. Mind ,body and spirit takes a lifetime of work Will a diet of protein bars and shakes make you feel deprived and more hungry? WIll bars and shakes be sustainable long term to lose weight? this is my example of light to no prep --- Would this be doable for you? here is what a day of food can look like: Breakfast: 2 Dannon light n fit yogurt and two jimmy dean turkey sausage (microwave and your done) Snack: Quest oatmeal cookie chocolate chip bar Lunch: Cobb salad I break this into two meals..I can't eat this in one sitting 7 oz Canned chicken 3.4 oz bagged salad sunflower crunch kit add some bacon bits and sunflowerseeds from the kit if you like. 1 Wholly guacamole mini cup. (your decision if you want to add dressing) Dinner: 6 oz Frozen pre cooked fajita chicken strips (john soules)(microwave and done) 3 oz frozen green, red peppers and onion strips..(Microwave and done) 1/2 flat out bread lite (weight watchers) Salsa Snack : 6 fresh strawberries 2 tablespoons sugar free hershey's chocolate syrup to dip them in. Myfitnesspal log estimate - Calories 1036 protein 131 - carbs 73 - fats 33.

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

Hi, all- I am one week out today from my sleeve last week and just want to send my support to everyone who is still waiting. I am feeling terrific today- really good. The first few days were hard (I had lots of nausea) but quickly got much much better. I was pretty terrified of this surgery before I had it, but now I am already grateful. Down 24 pounds since preop diet, which I think is pretty great! Also just feeling content with the decision now that it’s done- I keep feeling surprised that I still feel like myself- I don’t know what I thought was going to happen, but I’m so relieved that I feel pretty normal by this point, and the only difference is being a tiny bit sore and having to take a half an hour to eat a Greek yogurt Getting all liquids and protein in, and feeling so much better. Just wanted to send reassurance to any people who like me were absolutely scared out of their minds. All will be well! Surgery Date: January 8, 2018 Sleeve Gastrectomy

    Protein shake and liquids schedule

orionburn, that's pretty much what I do, and it works. On days when I decide to have a cooked breakfast, (some of my office meetings are over breakfast) I make the protein shake for lunch. My program calls for 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after, and I find the after part to be the hardest. But I've learned to be very careful about avoiding dry foods. I usually serve my cooked proteins with some sort of gravy or sauce--even if it's just a spoonful of greek yogurt. It helps me to not feel like I'm choking on dry meat. I don't have to set a timer, because I'm watching that clock until I can take a drink again!! But keeping that large iced water or tea right beside me all day is what gets me to that liquids goal. On days when I forget it I can guarantee I'll lose track and end up feeling dehydrated at the end of the day.
  14. I hope your father is still doing well. Time to put your selfcare back into practice. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. You can do this. Getting back on track can be done. Whenever you struggle, get back on the horse. Be consistent not perfect. I can relate. I had a gain in my third year. I just got my weight back down. I miss the days of fast weight loss. I had to do some trial and error on what foods help me feel full. I don't do shakes. I don't feel satisfied on liquids. I log my food.(myfitnesspal) I'm hitting around 1200/1300 calories and low carb. I increased my protein goal. (building more muscle and helps with hunger) I eat vegetables with meals. The fiber and bulk help keep my calories in range and hunger down I keep healthy options for salty and sweet cravings on hand. I keep my temptations foods out of the house..lol Lots of water..(I use crystal light for flavor) I eat about every 2 to 3 hours Exercise/activity Make a grocery shopping list. Plan your food and meals. Protein choices - Beef chicken pork fish eggs dairy beans (I'm sure there are more) spices. (Fresh garlic pre peeled and in a bag) (taco/fajita) (grill mates marinades) Fresh veggies and fruit Bariatric friendly recipes this is my dieticians website. http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ I have some repeat items that I don't have to cook.... lol some days are just busy Tuna pouches Pre cooked hard boiled eggs (they sell them in the delli area of winco and walmart) Dannon light n fit greek yogurt John soules pre cooked chicken breast strips freezer aisle (chicken fajitas) Smoked salmon canned chicken marketside fresh steamable vegetables (walmart) french green beans I add bacon bits and sliced almonds) (Brussel Sprouts topped with parmesan cheese) (Riced Cauliflower) dole - Bag salad Sweet cravings Strawberries dipped in hershey's sugar free syrup . Apples dipped in smuckers sugar free caramel syrup) Salty cravings Beef jerky and quest BBQ protein chips dipped in salsa jimmy dean turkey sausage breakfast links (frozen bag winco)
  15. Congrats on getting to the other side of the fence! We all react differently to surgery. It took me several weeks to not feel exahusted all the time. I remember being so bored at home after 2 weeks and tried to do anything could around the house. Running the vaccum for a few minutes was tiring, but it also felt good to actually do something. As you transistion to more foods you're mood/energy levels will go up. With liquids you typically won't ever feel restriction unless you drink too much too fast. Water passes through the stomach rather quickly when there's no food in it. Don't be surprised if you don't feel a full sensation with yogurts either. Anything that is a liquid at room temperature is pretty much a liquid in your stomach. When you get to real foods you'll start to feel it.

    Huge Appetite...Small Stomach

My favorite transition foods were yogurt (whipped greek), cream of wheat thinned with protein drink, oatmeal thinned with protein drink, sugar free pudding, and blended cream based soups. After I tolerated those well and could eat about 3 ounces in one sitting, I started adding soft foods.

    Huge Appetite...Small Stomach

You have to make sure anything you eat is very moist. Soft white fish goes down very easy like haddock or cod. Also, chicken thighs, add some chicken broth to it and it will slide down easier. I lived off cottage cheese and yogurt when i was forst sleeved. Scrambled eggs mamy people eat, but they came right back up for me. Now 9 months out I can get them down sometimes, but not all the time, not sure why. Good luck, just try small bites and youll figure out what works for you, everyone is different . Down 52 lbs and holding

Thanks for the advice! I currently eat no fruit, but do eat veggies with Greek yogurt as my snack. I have been walking more and riding my bike around. Started back up at the gym, but I haven’t been able to make it yet. Until I do, I’ll try and just step it up then. Thanks!
  19. You may also be getting dehydrated which can happen. Water is heavy and harder to go down without pain. You could try liquid yogurt, crystal light, iced tea, anything but plain water would be easier to get down. Don’t forget there is also sugar free jello and pudding which is easier to get down. Also you might not feel hungry for a long time, but it is still important to stay hydrated and fuel your body. Good luck!
  20. I’ll look for the yogurt for sure, tons of protein! As for the cheese, my local specialty store has so much I’m sure there’s beer drinkers- great name! Thank you for the suggestions

    Hungry/craving coming back

Yes, the return of the dreaded hunger/cravings! I have not yet tried the Paleo diet but am looking into it. I'm trying to go back to basics. I have also returned to a nutritionist but this time not the one at my DR's office. So far she's really good. I made sure that she had experience with people who had WLS and she seems to. I've been to NUT's before but so far she has been really good while the others were not. She actually helped me with a meal plan, not just showed me plastic food portions. One of the things she is having me do and is what I have read on sites like theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and others is to not be afraid of foods that are not low-fat. In fact, when I have cheese or yogurt or things like that, it's ok to have the full fat version. It will be tastier and actually better for me. And, she said that I have not been eating enough of the right foods which is why I eat more later. Try to go back to basics, make sure you don't drink with your meals, etc.
  22. I got sleeved on the 7th rather than the 6th. I was sleeved at a BMI of 30.6, I think I had previously said I was 31.6 but I was mistaken. I was told to stick mostly to water for my first week, so I have had 2 portions of home made chicken bone and vegetable broth each day and water throughout the week. The last few days my stomach has started to growl and churn, but otherwise its been pretty effortless, if not a chore to remember to drink my fluids and broth. I am feeling pretty weak tbh, My dog has bad back legs and I have to carry her around a lot and this has become a challenge. I get exhausted doing things I used to do effortlessly. Last night I made two soups for the first week of full liquid stage, Ive tried to cram as much nutrition in to them as possible. Both are made from home made chicken bone and vegetable stock and grilled chicken thighs, one is carrot and squash and the other is mushroom. They have been frozen in to individual containers. I am lazy when it comes to cooking, so its easier for me to make a weeks supply in one evening than to cook every day. This morning I started my transition to full liquids with a protein shake (powder + water) I am not particularly looking forward to starting full liquids because I dont know what to expect and I dont feel a drive to eat anything right now. I also have some greek yogurt, but keep forgetting to eat it. I dont have a feeling of fullness at all, If I drink too much I can get a pain, but otherwise im just measuring out my broth portions and hoping its enough. So that is pretty much how the first week has been for me, Hopefully I am on the right track.
  23. Hello. I’ve had some success on keto and Atkins type diets in the past and I am curious how they work post op and more than a little nervous to start it up again now since they are basically higher fat and my past probs there...plus I’m only two months + post op. Lil backstory- I had my gallbladder taken out 11/2016 and a year later my body still hasn’t made up its mind on how to process fats (mainly dairy, meat based fats are tolerable) Some days I can totally tolerate minimal dairy (like in my morning coffee or some meat wrapped cheese/pickle meals). Other days I take one sip of my AM coffee and I bolt straight to the bathroom & for the rest of the day- this is low fat, whole milk, half and half or even full on heavy cream. I literally can drink/eat FULL fat one day and get the intestinal freak outs the next! I don’t get it! I had VSG on 10/31/2017 (2.5 mos) and still struggle having dairy back into my diet since I’m pretty much experiencing the same thing. Now I make my one morning coffee with chocolate Premier Protein shake and do OK but still struggle with any other dairy...cheese, low fat sour cream, yogurt...but I WANT TO COOK WITH THIS STUFF! PLUS I NEED THE CALCIUM. Ricotta bake- HELLO! I want to be able to eat that without excusing myself from the table after one bite. Can I do a modified Keto and/or Atkins type eating program that allows me to eat lower fat (mostly dairy) type foods and still be satisfied and lose weight? Maybe less fat and more protein? Is there something like that- toss in some whole greens maybe? I’m earnestly trying and reaching out for help so please don’t give me arrogant attitude. I enjoy most of you but geez the power trips here are sometimes too much...kinda like the trots I get lately many thanks and so much love and appreciation to all of you that offer kind supportive suggestions...Tess
  24. Wow...you guys are brave...donuts? Tamales? Do ritos? Here is am trying to eat sugar free yogurt 😳Popsicles. I tried two bites of extremely moist meatloaf and was sick all night long. I can't even eat tomato soup. The acid of anything even a mashed boiled egg keeps me burping sour nasty burps. The only thing that went down smooth was a protein shake I made with bananas, peanut butter and fat free milk. I am planning on Keto dieting after I heal. If I can take it. Artificial sugars make me so nauseous. I am going nuts hungry and sick of jello, BROTH AND YOGURT! 15 days post surgery. Lost 16 pounds

Beans are super dense, I still can't eat refried beans without thinning them (sour cream works well). Try lighter things first like yogurt, scrambled eggs, chicken salad etc. if something doesn't go down well just try it again a week or two later.
