Today is day 10 post op. I have lost 26 lbs since the surgery. This is my third day adding protein to my diet. Yesterday was the first day with no weight loss, but, I had to break our a pair of suspenders to keep my pants up. Walking more each day. Gonna stay away from the scale a couple of days.

My first weight goal is to be in "onederland" I have 28 more pounds to go! I have always rewarded myself with food (going to certain restaurants or getting my fav dessert from a local bakery) now I can't do that so I am think of new rewards. Just wanted to hear from my Sleeve Family on what they have gotten/done as a reward for meeting goals!

I am 7 months out, down 78 lbs and have dropped the pressure on my machine twice since surgery. My pulminologist said he wants to wait until I am finished losing weight before he sends me for another sleep study. He also warned me that some people continue to need therapy despite the weight loss. Honestly, I sleep so well with my CPAP I am really in no rush to get rid if it. ????

Was sleeved Sep 7th I lost 20 pounds in the first week post op which I don t know if thats normal , I started at 225 and am down to 205 ive gotten down to 203 the lowest and have been between that range since then . Ive also been having trouble getting all my protein in but now that i can eat ive done much better , water intake is alot better too . In my mind im telling myself it ok 20 pounds in a month is really good , it just sucks I at least want to get under 200 that would be the best. It really helped to see how much weight I would loose while i was on liquids that just made it alot easier. I hope now that i will start exersise it gets alot better

I am considering VSG surgery. I have actually done all of the pre op tests, and all but the final nutritionist consult. I have been overweight most of my life, and have always been very active. I ran cross country in high school even though I was considerably heavier than anyone elso on the team. I can still run 5k's but not as easily as it was in the past. I have lost 50+ pounds in the past only to regain most of it. In the last 10 years my heaviest was around 280, and my lowest was around 225, and I am 6ft. I now have sleep apnea, arthritis in both knees, and other joints, high cholesterol, a borderline high AIC and I am only 29. I mentioned that I was considering a WLS seminar to my wife and she said she was interested. We both attended a seminar and went to follow up consult appointments. The doctor suggested gastric bypass for her (her BMI is in the upper 40's) and a band or sleeve for my, but strongly suggested the sleeve over the band. Now that my wife has lost some weight by diet and exercise, she is not sure she wants the surgery. I have also lost weight with diet and exercise in the past and I always seem to regain all or most of it. Now with all the issues I am having it is harder and more painful to exercise much. The nutritionist keeps asking if this is the path I want to take, and she thinks I can loose the weight without surgery. She said that I should let my wife have the surgery and with changed eating habits in the house I would loose my weight. She said they had a woman with a BMI of 35 had gastric bypass at their practice and now she has trouble staying above a BMI of 20. I want my wifes decision to be her's and I try not to push her in any direction. I am not sure if I should go ahead and have the surgery even if she does not, or try the diet and exercise route again and see if I can keep it off this time even though I have not really been a healthy weight in 10+ years.

Ok, so don't beat yourself up too much. You have to learn from this. Not sure how far out you are but this is a process. My therapist tells me over and over that I did not gain all this weight overnight and how could I possibly expect change those lifelong habits overnight. Well more accurately she even says how could I imagine changing it in 10 months (as I am 10 months post-op). I made some bad choices this weekend - at least scallops aren't a terrible choice! Track it and make a note how full you got and how miserable that made you and it will remind you next time. The only way I seem to learn is by vomiting. Not really the way I want to learn that I ate too much! Own up to it, see it on paper, reflect on how you don't want to feel this way again and then move on. If we don't learn from our mistakes, we just keep beating ourselves up and move back towards that old cycle we all lived before of overeating. Don't let that happen!

Diet & Exercise Regimen
BLERDgirl replied to DrewzWife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really should call your nutritionist and review your daily food intake. They should be able to provide you with some sample menus. Hopefully you are at least meeting the minimum Protein and Fluid requirement. Your calorie count may be low, but that protein is important and can impact your weight loss. You may also want to consider upping your exercise routine a bit. It may jumpstart your metabolism and your appetite. -
Does anyone know of or is using a weight loss app for iPhone?

Thinoneday is right, but you have reminded me of something. When on Weight Watchers I would have 1 or 2 Lean Cuisines in my freezer for "emergencies". You know those times you are too hungry to cook & have nothing frozen or simply can't decide what to eat? I would eat at most 1 a month, so it worked out great. I will try that again and see how it goes. Perhaps you can consider that. How are you feeling?

It has been two weeks and five days since my surgery, and I am left in wonder and introspection. I have had my first post-op doctor's appointment and am scheduled to see him again in about two months. I am to lose 24 pounds by then. My scale and the scale at my doctor's are different by six pounds; I also weigh myself nude at home while I am fully clothed while at my doctor's (plus I think I had my car keys in my jeans pocket). I've realized I haven't been following the schedule that I am supposed to have set with my meals: 3 meals a day, 2oz each, and 2 protein shakes. I am still on a liquid diet; broths and protein shakes have been my meals. I've been nearly meeting my protein intake of 50g a day (I get around 46-50, depending on the kind of shake I drink). Along with my realization that I need to work on my food schedule, I also realized I need to be measuring my broth so I can get used to the 2 oz of food I am allowed, so when day 22 comes along, I will measure my soft foods out of habit. Instead of measuring my broth, I've been pouring them into my little toddler bowl and eating it slowly until I feel full. I believe that I was eating double of what I should, but then would not "eat" broth the rest of the day, but would focus on drinking my protein shakes. Even with the completion of my third week coming up and soft foods will soon be on my menu, I am still only allowed 500 calories. This is somewhat concerning to me in that a protein shake that I am loving automatically gives me 220 calories. I can reduce that by using just water to make my shake as opposed to a cup of soy milk and half a cup of water; though with the current way I make my shake, I get 33g of protein in. I'm considering having that shake as a "breakfast" and shake combo. I am also concerned about the 500 calories since I will be starting to exercise, besides the everyday walking that I do. I will start slow, but I also know that beforehand I could burn 400 calories with 30mins of cardio. I trust my doctor, so I just have to hold on to that while wrapping my head around the idea of small calorie intake and the addition of cardio and eventually strength training. With all these changes that I've been going through, I've realized that I've been focusing on the wrong numbers: instead of focusing on my number triad of 500/50/<40, I have been focusing on the number on the scale. and disappointed in that I see no difference in my body shape. Still, I know I am losing weight, and I tell/comfort myself with the idea that I may be losing slowly compared to others but that could be good for me skin wise and also, just adjustment wise. I've taken to keeping a food diary, and have set up a weight loss chart to remind myself that even if I cannot see a difference, I am losing weight and am on track. With all that being said, I am glad that I've taken this big step and am making progress on my journey. I've realized my mistakes and am seeking to correct them. I am working on my water intake, thought I do get my full amount of liquids in through the broth, shakes and bit of water I do drink. I know I need to get better at my water intake since I will be trying soft foods soon, so I will be including broth less and less in my liquid intake (and really, I am getting so freaking tired of chicken broth). I am making my way down this path and with each little step I'm realizing past mistakes in the way I ate and took care of myself, and I'm realizing the mistakes I was making now and am working on correcting those. Sometimes, things that are worthwhile must be worked for and earned so their enjoyment is that much sweeter. My life will be so much sweeter learning and meeting the new me. And for now, in the short term, the sweetness will come with my first scrambled egg!

Pre-op diet & weight loss
lnelson796 replied to mytime2shine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think your weight loss will vary by person. I know several people lose 15 to 20 and some don't lose much. I'm on day 11 and have lost 9 pounds and haven't lost any in the last 3 days even though I'm not cheating at all. But yet I have lost 1 1/2 inches in the waist this week so I can't complain. Just don't worry about how much you're losing and just realize the goal is to do your best to have your body ready for the surgeon. Good luck! -
I am on the pre-op diet. Just curious how much weight loss should happen on it? I'm averaging about 1/2 lb a day and was wanting to know if that's about right. THX & good luck to everyone ~~working my way towards the losers bench :@)

How to act around other banders?
HeatherO replied to bigpapa2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you did the right thing as well. People know what they need to be doing . . . and if they need help or advice they will seek it out. If you would make a point about it being an inappropriate food, you might have just embarrassed this person. I would have passed on the buckeye balls as well and just show by example that I am making the right decisions for me. It will become very evident in the coming months as you lose the weight that making the right decisions is making a difference. -
How to act around other banders?
babbs3772 replied to bigpapa2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you did fine, it is not up to us to be anyone's preacher, teacher or keeper - unless they ask and we are willing to be those things to them. I have found in many parts of life that it just isn't up to me to understand everything and it isn't up to me to make sure everyone else understands everything Congratulations on your weight loss, you are obviously working hard and taking good care of yourself! Good morning Bandsters! I really enjoy reading your posts and have one tiny request - I like to try to guage how much people have lost and how long it took them to lose it. There is no perfect science to this, but if you could all add your surgery ticker and update your weight loss/BMI tickers regularly that would be awesome! Thanks and keep up the good work...it would be nice to know how much we have all lost as a group. TONS UPON TONS I'm sure . Gwen

Update, Swelling, and Fun Stuff.
shedo82773 replied to Mindy78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing AWESOME with your Water and PROTEIN!!! The swelling may be caused by your surgery. After my RNY I felt like I had lost a lot of weight but when I was weighed I hadn't lost a single #. You are 12 days out so you should see the swelling going down. Also I know this might sound funny but I have been told to up my water when I was swollen. It is supposed to push the swelling out. Again you are doing great. KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!! -
I have hit a plateu since my surgery in 2015. Im thinking of Weight Watchers, but would like some advice, and if anyone know if they can adjust the points due to the size of my stomach. Thanks for any inputs.

The Fear of the Unknown
Suzannesh replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I am doing just what Rule # 12 says. 12. Recommendations or reviews of surgeons, hospitals, products, or services are welcome if based on the reviewer's personal experience. The reviewer must have no financial interest in the subject being reviewed. Violations will result in the posts being removed and a possible permanent ban of membership. "I can’t speak about any of the other doctors because Dr. Aceves is the only person I have had experience with." The post I made before this one DID NOT mention Dr. Aceves at all. So sorry this bothers you, I would suggest that maybe you might not want to read any of my posts. I also wish you great success in your weight loss journey like I do for many other people. Enough said. Suzanne -
Amazing results at one month!! Continued success on your journey!! BTW.. great tracking...I also track monthly, (weight, inches loss and a dated picture, to document my sleeve journey and one day make a video). I will wait initially until 10/8 my 6 week checkup.

Psych Eval
TinyMamiOf3kids replied to ShineBright724's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a questionnaire to fill out. The lady ask me question one on one,and I simply answer them. I was asked about the reason why I want to have WLS,and if anyone was forcing me. If my hubby is complaining. Family history, and such. Basically to see if I was nuts or something. Like some people have spouse that are like always telling them to lose weight or they leaving them, and such so she wanted to make sure that wasn't the case. So I did well and she said she approve of me having WLS cuz I have all the good reasons for having it done. I was there for about 20/30 minutes -
This roller coaster of "Yes you're approved" and "no you're not" is too much... I need to throw up and i'm still not sleeved.

I am so sorry to read this, I also went thru so many chnges trying to get an approval. I have cried, screamed, been happy, been mad and ready to go blow up some offices...lol I dont kno how religious u are but this weight is a form of bondage and God does not want us to remain in bondage, so therefore if you trust him he will fix this in your favor...he gives us the desires of our hearts and if ur heart is like mine being here for my sons without limitations on their life is ALLLLL I could ever hope for. So hang in there, if its urs cant NOBDY take it...not that clinic or the insurance company.
