Getting rid of old/large clothes - too soon?
Recidivist replied to LAJ23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get rid of them. During my weight loss, I donated everything that no longer fit and bought a few second-hand items just so I had something that fit until I lost more. One word of warning: I bought lots of new clothes when I reached my lowest weight of 132. Then I had a 10-pound gain during maintenance before settling in at 142. I would recommend waiting until you have been on maintenance for a while before splurging on a whole new wardrobe. -
Same thing happened to me around week 3-4 and again this week at week 9-10!! The first stall was because I actually wasn't getting in enough protein or calories (crazy right) and my nutritionist says that stalls and fluctuations are common and normal, due to water weight, retention, etc.

Anyone go into surgery alone?
ladyJ2198 replied to samiaam25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went alone and I didn’t even have energy or want to even call anyone until 10 or so hours after so let everyone know you’ll reach out when you can -
statistically speaking, you'll lose more with bypass than you will with sleeve, but it's only about a 5% difference. Plus an average is just an average - you'll find people who fall on either side of the average. There are people who are extremely successful with both surgeries - and people who fail with both surgeries. 14 lbs is a lot. You may lose that the first three or four months, depending on a whole host of other factors (sex, age, metabolic rate, activity level, starting BMI, etc), but weight loss slows down a lot after that. I started at well over 300 lbs. I lost 16 lbs the first month, maybe 12 or so lbs a month for a couple of months after that, then I think around 10 lbs a month until I was about 7 months out, and then 5-8 lbs a month until I got about a year out. After that, things really slowed down until it finally stopped at around 20 months out. P.S. With your starting BMI, your weight loss isn't going to be really speedy. You WILL lose it if you're committed to your program, but 14 lbs a month is overly optimistic for someone at your weight. Most of us start out much heavier.

1 week post surgery and I haven’t lost any weight?
catwoman7 replied to wakeupmaggie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
yep - I'd suspect the IV fluids. Some people gain up to 10 lbs on those, and it can take a week to ten days for them to work their way out of your system -
you might want to hold off on trying to gain weight and maybe just try to stabilize. It seems like most people put on 10-20 lbs during year 3 with little to no effort... I got too thin at one point and figured I'd never have the bounce back weight people talk about, but I did...

1 week post surgery and I haven’t lost any weight?
NovaLuna replied to wakeupmaggie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You probably still have a lot of fluids in you from your surgery. It took about 10 days or so lose that fluid for me. -
My scale arrived today, and it's really cool. Thanks again for the suggestion. If anyone is looking for a scale, this one is on sale AND has a $10 off coupon right now on Amazon. It cost me about $18. Sent from my SM-T290 using BariatricPal mobile app

The time is here!!!! I have my tummy tuck and BA Thursday 10/8. I’m so excited and so scared. Mostly about pain and my tatas being too big. My husband says he will deal just fine if they are too big 🙄. I can’t believe it’s finally time. November 11 is the 7th anniversary of my sleeve. It’s time for this!!!!

Welcome to the forums, Is it possible you have some sort of bug? Your symptoms sound like my version of the flu. Dry heaves are my version of throwing up. The other symptoms fit. Could also be symptoms of some autoimmune things, but I'd go with bug initially. It may just run it's course over 7-10 days. I'm not a doctor, just a voice on the interwebs, so follow your Doc's advice. If you not happy, keep pushing, be your own advocate. Good luck, Tek

RnY 10 years ago... back to where I started...

I had my EGD last Wednesday. It was the best sleep I've had in years!!!! I blinked twice after they gave me meds and then woke up in recovery. They did a biopsy of my lower stomach because I had some redness. My throat was a little scratchy up until the next morning and had some nausea. But nothing major at all. I went home and slept until 4 PM and then went back to sleep at 10!! No problems at all. -

I guess I should add I am almost exactly 10 years post-op. Lost a total of 120lbs. And yet... here we are. -
My stats are very similar to yours. I am also 5'1" and started at 250 pounds. I had the sleeve rather than the bypass. My weight loss started slowly compared to others I know who had WLS. I lost about 10 pounds the first month, then 15 the second month and then I settled into about 10 pounds per month until recently (it has slowed down now). At this point I am 18 months out from surgery and I have lost 110 pounds overall. 18 pounds in 21 days is pretty amazing and 3 or 4 pounds in one week is great! I think you're doing fine.

Hey there! New to the forum, not new to the WLS world. Having an EGD tomorrow to check the status of my anasthemosis and to see if a revision is in order. (Truth: I am HOPING for a revision.) I am currently doing <1200 cals; +65 protein; <25 sugar; standard vitamins and calcium citrate. Anyone have a RnY revision ? Any EGD advice? I had one previously but it was during another (bigger) procedure so I don't know what the after was like. Thanks a million! Looking forward to getting to know you all. Tina -
Anyone for September 2020?
ByeByeBandHelloBypass replied to vsg_britt_091420's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. its me again! So I have now been on soft foods for 10 days. I am doing pretty well, I think. LOL. I have only gotten semi-nauseous once and it was on Black eye peas. I had eaten the same thing the day before with no issue. I think I might have just eaten too fast. I have eaten ALL kinds of things too. I'm not one that can eat the same things over and over. I end up wasting a bunch of food though because making a dish, even a small one, I can only eat it like two times and then its gone. I'm not gonna lie, I have snuck a little sugar here and there with no issue. When I say a little though, I mean a little. I have had one square of a Hershey bar...lol...and a tiny sliver of a pumpkin bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes my daughter bought. I've learned to like cottage cheese with sugar free whipped topping and sugar free jello (strawberry is my fave) mixed together....my aunt calls it pink lady and its delicious. I've learned to like more yogurts because I cant eat eggs for breakfast every day! The weight loss is slow but it's not going up, so i'm okay with it. I lost 2 pounds last week. I am trying to walk outside a few days a week but I am still get tired very easy. I hope that goes away soon. -
Don't know why it's not showing up, but here's a cut and paste: Pre-Op Diet -12; M1-19; M2 -7; M3 -10; M4 -7; M5 -7; M6 -9; M7 -8; M8 -9; M9 -8

Yes, it seems like every surgeon has a different plan, so yours is normal [emoji4] Mine will be 10 days, and is basically low carb, low calorie.

Hello. I had the gastric sleeve in 2014. I started having severe acid reflux to the point I was waking up choking in my sleep. Found out my stomach was twisted. I had the gastric bypass Nov 2019 to correct the problem. After a few months I couldn't keep any food down and found out I had a stricture. Tried the endoscopy to try to open it up but the scar tissue was too bad. Having surgery tomorrow to see if he can remove the scar tissue. If not, then he will have to reroute my intestines to another part of my stomach. I'm so disappointed in all that has happened and scared because of all the surgery being done to my stomach. I keep having this nightmare of walking around with a colostomy bag because of damage. I'm going to stay positive but wanted to know if anyone had to have surgery again after a stricture?
