  1. so i know the mental hunger thing is a battle many of us have to face but does anybody else struggle knowing where the line is between the real and unreal hunger ?!? i am always hungry and always have hunger growls and i miss the small stomach sensation in the beginning i miss those first few months i had surgery on may 10th, since then i lost about 90+ lbs but my stomach seems to be able to fit double what it was a few months ago, and i've been stuck on the same weight for 2 months lastly, my cpap was for a while, filling me up with air despite lowering the settings, and i wonder if this affects my surgery in any way? i would wake up with intense gas pain like when we got surgery that first day i don't know from day to day if i'm ok and it makes me so depressed and paranoid bleh... anyone feeling this way? Help food!

I am looking at all of the successful lapbanders that have lost a lot of weight. I am wondering if you can let me know what you ate? Is there anything that you have cut out/eliminated? Have you changed the way you cook? I am at a stand still and would really like some assistance.

    Hello from Utah!!

Hi Irene! Over the years I have collected 1000's of recipes and I thought it would be a good idea to go through them and convert them to Bandster recipes! I'll keep you posted. How do you make the little weight lost chart everyone has at the bottom of their post?

    No More Surgeries!!!!

I've ALWAYS had big arms........... not blessed with small ones and so I know that my bat wings will be flapping in the air while riding my motorcycle even mores so after I lose my weight AGAIN and that is a major reason why if I had to chose just ONE ps it would be to get my arms done.... scars or not they would FIT better into clothes and I could for once in my life wear a tank top and not gross out spectators.......... it's just a part of MY journey... and a personal choice for ME.... I've had saggy boobs my entire life too.... but I can stuff them into a bra.... my arms not so much........
  5. Went in last week for a complete unfill due to recent medical conditions unrelated to the band. After a week of an unfill, I am now reminded of why I have the band in the first place. I am feeling no restriction for the first time in 18 months and I can eat anything. Old habits die hard, but I am trying to keep a grip on it. I don't want to gain weight and if I could just stay the same I would be fine- wow it's hard! I would have thought that after 18 months of restriction I would have better self control........it's scary and a little depressing to think I can just slip right back..........

    Ladynettie: Intro & Question

I love my band and have no regrets, it gave me the push I needed to lose my weight. The one advice I have is, you have to walk into this with your eyes wide open. The band will only work if you work with it, it is not a quick fix and it will not stop you from eating things that are not healthy. I suggest doing all the before work, meeting with a nutritionist and a physiologist. Getting inside your head and finding what makes you eat is key to losing in my opinion. I am lucky, I have worked hard and the band has worked very well for me. As far as losing the weight and not losing the excess skin, this is a hard. I have lost all my desired weight. I lost 122 lbs and I am determined to tighten up as much as I can because I am choosing not to have a TT or any cosmetic surgery. It is hard but I am 57 and who at 57 does not have a few flaws. Like I said you really need to be mentally prepared for this process, my opinion is the mental part of this journey is the hardest and not facing issues before or early will prevent you from being successful,
  7. I had my surgery on Nov 30th, I went in for a fill 2 weeks later, and when the PA put in my first fill, aparently my stomach swolle up, and I couldnt get water down, we had to remove the fluid to let the swelling go down. Trying to find my port has been just a crazy game, I get so sick to my stomach..cant find it. I went in for a refill this last Monday she dug around unable to find the port again OMG. I couldnt belive it not again. I am scheduled for a floroscopy Thursday. I guess I have been eating acting as I did before I decided to get the lapband or as I have always eaten my whole life...feeling like a failure. I have gained some weight back..I need something to happen soon. The PA told me we would have to add fluid to the band slow at first. What a crazy begining to a new year, and lap banding.

    Hello all!!!!

I would call the barix clinic and talk to someone in the insurance dept. They seem to be very knowledgeable and could answer your questions better than I could. And yes I have insurance through work. It also matters what your BMI is! If it's over 40 I don't think you need the supervised weight loss but I'm between 35 & 40 so I guess I'm medium sized fluffy....
  9. I haven't had the surgery yet but I'm in the begining stages of looking into it. I have 2 very active sons (7m and 2.5YO) and I'm worried that realistically, NWWLS in Everett is going to be just too far to drive for fills. I live in Bellevue. I found this place Weight Loss Surgery at the Institute for Laparoscopic Surgery but I don't know anyone who has used them. Can anyone offer any assistance or opinions? We don't have any family in the area or any childcare as I'm a stay at home mom so proximity is going to be a huge factor for me. Ideas? Suggestions? Comments? Thanks! Misty
  10. Congratulations on your new relationship! It seems pretty common for people to gain a little weight in new relationships for the reasons you've mentioned. The good news is he understands and is very supportive of your post-WLS lifestyle. Sounds like you're getting back on track. I'm still pre-surgery and making some of these changes with my own boyfriend. Cooking dinner and eating in instead of going out, walking together, stuff like that. Good luck to you and I wish you two tons of happiness!

Stop that. You're a hot tamale at any weight. After a little while, you'll just keep getting hotter and one day will change your name to Tamalia.

    1st appointment not tI'll june

So if the pathway is similar to here (just to say) then first appointment will be probably a meet n greet, set up if future appointment and if you qualify for help. I don't think you automatically qualify for surgery in England as its seems as Cosmetic surgery but it may mean a long term weight management pathway, shrink and maybe last appointment is a year or so down line. Friend in Brum had his done via NHS and his PCT was 3 appointment spread over 2 years . Call them up and ask for a closer appointment, may get lucky Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

    Questions for after my fill

Kelly, there's no question that a fill will help you get full faster and stay full longer. But if all you're eating is two eggs and a piece of toast (otherwise known as "breakfast"), and you're staying full for three or four hours (or until the time otherwise known as "lunchtime"), it sounds to me like you're doing just fine! If you're comfortable and losing weight where you are you may not need a fill just yet. Our expectations are often out of whack. If certain foods are causing you trouble now, chances are very good that they will cause you MORE trouble when you're tighter. Things getting stuck is a sign that you have not yet mastered the chew-till-pulverized technique, or the take-mouse-bites technique. By all means get a fill if you need one. But your description of what you're eating and how hungry you get doesn't indicate to me that anything is at all wrong. You don't WANT to get overly full. Maybe you can try eating just the two eggs now and see if that keeps you until lunchtime. Practice more on the meats that cause you trouble and see if you can master eating them without difficulty. Then when you do get a fill you can proceed without fear. You wouldn't be human if you didn't get hungry after several hours--that's perfectly normal and means you're still alive.

    WLS Books

Has anyone looked into Weight Loss Surgery books. I am thinking about buying the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and called Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Pat Levine that has recipes that cordinate where your at in your post-op (I know I could have used that 5 weeks ago) b/c it addresses liquid and mushies stages. I'm going to B&N tomorrow so I'll let you all know what I find. I was just wondering if anyone else may have purchased and what they thought. The reviews on Amazon seems to favor the one by Pat Levine the most.

    Scale Recommendation

I bought a scale at WalMart that records your weight, goal weight and BMI. It tells me everyday how much I have gained and or lost and how much more I have to lose to get to my goal weight. It records up to 4 users. I love it. It cost under $20.

    Scale Recommendation

I think ThatDudesMom and I must have the same exact scale. It's pretty accurate too because it lines up well with my Wii and what I weigh at my Dr's office. My Dr's office has the same kind of scale that Sr. Sleever mentioned. It doesn't have any of that fancy stuff like weighted fat % or that kinda stuff. Just weighs me, which is fine. I got mine at Target. I don't remember what I paid but I know it wasn't more than $30 -- good luck!
  19. I think it was a combination of a few things, Water retention cause I'm not drinking enough, using milk with Protein drinks and other higher calorie Protein Drinks, and increased muscle mass. My doctor weighs me on this high tech scale that gives out detailed readings. It said I gained 6 lbs, but lost 1.5 % body fat. So who knows...
  20. So I'm at 7 weeks out and the weight loss has been very slow. I've only had one fill so far and have little to no restriction. I know that what I've done so far has been through sheer hard work and determination. But while the scale doesn't want to move, I've had three people at work approach me in the past week and ask if I've lost weight. So at least it's starting to show a bit - gives me motivation to keep it up!

    Eating Out

I only go to buffets when I'm going with friends, because it is a big waste of money. That being said, though, I always pull out my lapband card that says I've had weight loss surgery and to please let me order a child's portion. I haven't been turned down yet. I feel a lot better about wasting $5 or $6 than $10 or $12!

    help me please

don't lose hope! truth is, you WILL lose weight at that rate of intake. of course, your body may currently be trying to hold onto to what it can due to the extreme lack of intake. try to raise the calories, but more importantly, you need Protein. can you not eat hard Proteins at all? what about egg drop soup? or Protein shakes? 700-800 calories is just not enough. can you not eat flaked tuna, fish or chicken? what about trying these blended? how slow are you eating when you eat solids? are you chewing until it is mush? are you able to get in your 64 oz of Water? please try to focus more on protein .. check out www.fitday.com to see how your protein/calories add up.. it will get better, I promise!

  25. Hi all! Well let me start of by saying I was first banded in July 2004. My weight before surgery was 253. I was down to 175, but that was when my band slipped, and I was unable to consume anything for five days. In June 2007,my band had to be removed and replaced with a different band. Since I've had to second surgery, I can not get with it. I was on liquids for the first month after, and stuck with it, but since then, I have no self-control. I had some when I first got the surgery, but can not seem to control it anymore. I am not heavier than I was before the surgery, but after the second band, I lost a lot of weight, but gained it back as soon I was back on solids. I need to get support and do it, but I always seem to regress and fall back. I am currently at 220. I need to get a fill, but just have been procrastinating about it.
