I can’t meet my protein requirements
ShelbyMoore replied to Rose400491's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Genepro Medical Grade Protein powder. I bought it on Amazon.. $30 or $40 , don’t recall, but it has 30 servings in it. Each scoop is approx 30g protein (same as 1 premiere shake) I use a scoop of it and put it in my broth. It has NO taste. Once I move on to more foods I will add it to my yogurt, cottage cheese, anything. When you use it, to avoid clumping, I mix the protein powder in a few oz of liquid first. Mix it well to get rid of any clumps then I add it to my larger portion. I tried it as a recommendation on here from someone else. It works great for me! -
Okay, honestly, how many of us ever worried about spoiling our appetites before the surgery? We'd eat when we got home from work, snacked while making dinner, and then stuffed dinner in on top of it, right? Well it's hitting me now (and I don't know why it's now, but it is) that I don't want to spoil my appetite for "dinner." I planned out some refried Beans with ff sour cream and salsa for my pureed dinner. I am a little hungry now so I wanted to have some yogurt but I realized if I did that I wouldn't want to eat my dinner. I don't think I've ever had that thought before!!!

Okay Seriously how much do you eat?
MrsFlipFlops replied to armywife4life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was like that when I first got banded... I just had my 4th fill and am pretty restricted on what I can eat. In the morning I'm pretty tight, so I stick with yogurt or a shake. For lunch I have a tuna kit. About 4 hours later I'll have a snack (just a few crackers or fruit or something) and then dinner. Last night I had meatloaf, it was about a 3/4 cup, but I was stuffed. Now that I've had my fill, I can eat about 1/2 cup, but like I said, I do eat a snack between lunch and dinner. It's like my band can hold more throughout the day. -

I was sleeved 8/6/12. It's my 3 month anniversary and I am down 33 lbs. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I saw the doctor yesterday and he said I should have lost more, but maybe my metabolism is slow. I can eat about 3/4-1 c at a sitting. After I eat I am stuffed, but only for about 30-40 mins. I eat about 4x a day. I am getting Protein, I exercise 3x a week, I should drink more Water, but other than that, I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have had stalls that last 2 and 3 weeks. The majority of my loss was in the first month and a half. A typical day of eating is: Greek yogurt, 1/2 banana, protein bar and about 20 oz water, all before 1:00 pm. 1/2 sandwich and a small dinner, maybe 20 more oz water. I am so happy I had the surgery, but I want to feel excited and I want to see great results for this amount of effort.

What Am I Doing Wrong?
Jennabelle replied to pebbles99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had a very long stall(or a very slow second month). I was sleeved aug 27. My highest weight was 256. My surgery date I was 236. And 2 months out I was 211. 45pounds. Today I am 206. And at the 50 pound milestone. The second month I was sooo discouraged. Because most of that 45 pounds was lost in the first 2 weeks. I talked to some fellow sleevers and discovered that my protein and water intake was way too low. You need a minimum of 60g of protein a day but 70 or more is better! And should also be drinking 60oz of water a day. The other tip I have is keep your carbs under 40(under 30 is better). I agree with everything lollyfiddy1965 says. Because my weightloss was slower then I liked I also began working out. I am on the elliptical 5x a week for 20-30mins. I do some weights 3x a week. And I play rec volleyball for an hour every Tuesday. And I curl every Friday for 2 hours. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken and fish. My typical day is also very similar to lollyfiddy1965. I expect my third month to be spectacular as long as I keep following the guidelines. There are still many days where I struggle to meet the requirements. Max 800 calories, max 40g of carbs. Minimum of 60 protein(aim higher) And min 60 oz of water. Keep track of your intake. I use myfitnesspal...a wonderful tool. Hope our tips help you thru this difficult time! And try to remember that it's 35 pounds you'll never gain back! And stay positive it will come!!! I spent my second month in tears(which I'm told is normal) but I've had a much more positive outlook the last 10 days. -
You may be right about the protein.....the BA has 27 grams per serving.....so I'm getting a total of 103 grams of protein on my plan (3 shakes, 2 nonfat, plain yogurts) I've been mixing BA in the yogurt for a "pudding".....tolerable........however, the Premier Protein RTD drinks are good (30 grams per serving).......by themselves, I like the chocolate better......BUT I like to mix the vanilla in with 4 oz of decaf coffee.....and pour it over lots of ice.......yum! the PP RTD's can be found at walgreens in a 4 pack and at costco in an 18 pack (I purchased it from walgreens first rather than investing in a huge pack from costco)..... Good luck!

Scary stuff.... i hope im ready for this

I was below goal weight at 7 months so I increased from 600 calories to 1000 over several weeks then over a few months up towards 1500/1600 where I am now to maintain. Initially I added nut butters, I switched from low fat yogurt to 4%. I drank 2% Fairlife milk to up calories since it added nutrition and calcium. It took a long time to get more food in volume wise. I did start adding some slider foods but purposely chose things that were not very appealing like boring graham crackers or adding granola to yogurt. I didn't want to add tempting sliders like bread, pasta, pizza or donuts etc that could cause bad habits. Now at 1 year out I do have a piece (100 calories) of dark chocolate a few times a week and 1-2 cookies or 1/4 cup of regular ice cream 1-2 times a week. I have even had a few chips but I put them on a plate, never eat out of a bag. I was so scared of going into maintenance that I would over eat and make poor choices but I feel like I have a good handle on it now. Just remember to try a little of new food slowly to see what you tolerance is. I don't dump but get stomach discomfort from some foods. -
GREEK OR YOPLAIT... WHICH ONE HAS MORE PROTEIN
GraceAbounds commented on TD41's blog entry in TD41's Blog
Greek has more protein that regular yogurt. But check your label as many of them are full of sugar. You will want to choose the one's that are not so heavy in calories. -
Cheese, nuts, deli meat, greek yogurt with or without chia seeds, cucumbers or red bell peppers with tzatziki or just plain, celery with peanut butter or cream cheese and everything but the bagel seasoning, apples and peanut butter... if you tell us what foods you DO like maybe we can give you better suggestions?

If you like ranch dressing you can make ranch dip for veggies with the dry dressing seasoning mix and plain Greek yogurt. Also I mixed PB Fit into vanilla Greek yogurt and dipped apple slices Into it.

Post Lap Band Surgery Dehydration Problems
Jachut replied to Steelers Fan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are pkenty of low carbers around ho will tell you ketosis is a good thing and the way your body is meant to run. Now you know just how dangerous and stupid tha is. You cannot live on protein alone, you need good carbs too and at this stage even yogurt, pudding and custard are acceptable. Blend som frui into purprotein shakes for example. -
Every doctor and every person is so different. I had my first fill just 3 1/2 weeks post op and my doctor put in 4 ccs. I felt absolutely nothing. I went back last Thursday (2 weeks later) and he put in another 3 ccs for a total of 7ccs. I felt the difference before I even left the office. I had a hard time that day even getting in my Clear liquids, but woke up the next morning and had thin oatmeal, yogurt for lunch, then a regular dinner. I feel the full "restriction" much quicker but have had no problems. Most people that I have heard from tell me that having 7 ccs, 5 weeks post op is pretty aggressive, but it feels "right" to me. I think it is important to listen to your body and hopefully you can trust you doctor to make judgements that are in your best interest.

My favorite go to is Greek yogurt mixed with powdered peanut butter and protein powder (I prefer chocolate but good with vanilla or banana flavour). I also like to sometimes add cinnamon. Then eat as a pudding or a dip for fruit like apples. Yum!! Sent from my SM-G900W8 using BariatricPal mobile app

3 Days Post-Op and I'm Hungry!
Banded Betsy replied to giggles&curls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on the 19th, and I am just now to the point where I am hungry. Try taking some plane yogurt and adding some of your protein powder to it. I know that when I was doing my pre-op diet, I was having a really hard time with finding something that would stop the hunger pains, and this really helped. Good Luck! -
3 Days Post-Op and I'm Hungry!
mirech replied to giggles&curls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, I wish I could relate to this but I was not hungy the first week at all. As a matter of fact the first days I had to force my self to eat and would stop when I was full. Maybe you should eat more of the jello, popsicles, and yogurt in between. -
Jeez guys, I haven't even had Breakfast yet, stop rushing me! lunch is likely to be either some tuna fish with a bit of Greek yogurt and shredded cheese, melted in the microwave, or a Pure Protein bar, since I'll be out running around all day today.

Another "Am is too tight" question
Humming Bird replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you followed the rule about sticking with liquids the first day after a fill and then move slow to the more solid stuff to avoid swelling and you are now having this feeling whith yogurt, then yes, I think you are too tight. If you did not follow the liquids only rule, then you may have caused some swelling. You would be suprised with the results of getting a very tiny bit of an unfill. I'm talking VERY tiny , like .1cc or .2cc . Yes, point one or point two. Not even a half cc. -
1yr and under....tell the truth - what r u really eating?
Pittsburgher replied to erinjkenben's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery june 18 2013. I eat anything I want in moderation. I make sure I have plenty of Protein each day. A typical day for me is Breakfast- egg beaters, cheesestick, yogurt. Lunch- turkey on a flat bread. Snack- Quest Protein Bar. Dinner- chicken with veggies. I eat the same things almost daily, but that works for me. The proetin bars curb hunger in between meals and taste like a candy bar to me. Now dont get me wrong if I have a craving for something sweet or its one of my kids birthdays I will have a piece, just a small piece to curb that craving. Its diffrent now because I can control my eating habits thanks to my band. -
Anyone having surgery in March?
Wallflower7522 replied to plantosleeve67's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got scheduled today for March 4th. I have slowly been incorporating foods into my diet that I'll be able to have before and after. I've been eating more yogurt and trying different broths. I'm going Protein shopping this weekend. I'll start my liquid diet in three weeks. I gave up using straws for the most part a few months ago and I'm working on not having any carbonated drinks. I need to cut back on caffeine but that's going to be really really hard. And the most exciting thing I've done so far is clothes shopping. I'm a 22/24 right now and I bought some smaller jeans. I just kind of look at them in the mornings and think how I can't wait till even those are too big for me. -
I had mine the same day! I was told for the next 2 weeks- it is supposed to be pourable liquid consistency. I have been doing my protein shakes, SF jello, SF ice pops, SF pudding, unsweetened applesauce, thinned greek yogurt and just added some cream soups and broth. I am aiming for 60g of protein today. They told me to worry about water first and then my protein.

I never ate baby food either. Lots of yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes. The only thing I puréed was canned peaches since I wasn’t allowed fresh fruit yet.
