  1. So I am scheduled to have my lapband revised/replaced tomorrow morning. Currently I have no restriction and a leak somewhere (port or tubing.) My doctor recommended I have it fixed, which I was surprised because the sleeve is so common. I feel like no matter what surgery, it takes meal prepping and planning so that’s why I want to try the band again. Any suggestions?!

  4. I have had a doozy of a time since my initial sleeve surgery in 2016. After some complications, I had a revision to bypass last year, then another hospital stay this year for a bowel blockage. Right now I am still experiencing intestinal issues and I am scheduled for a colonoscopy in December. If I just drink protein shakes my tummy is fine. No constipation, no bloating I feel great. As soon I eat anything remotely resembling a real meal my tummy complains. Anyone else have this issue. Thanks

    Post Op hot flashes

Hello, I'm sorry to hear about the complications you've had following your bypass surgery. Now my curiosity is up concerning the hot flashes after surgery. I am getting hot flashes like crazy, but mostly at night when I'm sleeping. They are so annoying and uncomfortable. I am hot, so I kick the covers off, then I get cold... and it can just continue like that for hours, which is really tough because I'm losing sleep. Makes me feel like poop the next day. Anyway, I had my bypass revision around May 1st of this year. I guess the hot flashes started about 2 months ago. I am starting to wonder if I am perimenopausal, although I don't have any of the usual "symptoms" other than the hot flashes. I am 47 and had a hysterectomy 8 years ago, but my surgeon left my ovaries. Not much help to ya, but wanted to jump in on this topic since I'm experiencing something similar. I might dig around and find some of the posts/conversation on this topic. Wish you the best, get well soon and congratulations on your bypass surgery.
  6. I don’t have an exact day - but my surgeon said - the first 2 weeks of December I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass Can’t believe I am in this place again- where I am nervous but yet excited for surgery

    October 2018 Sleevers

@katterbees what did they give you for pain? You’re a rockstar. You’ve already walked the block!!!!! I thought i was a badass by going to the bathroom and walking the halls. Lol. Is this your first surgery? I’m a revision from lapband to sleeve
  9. Matt, thank you for your input. I have read a lot of your posts so I'm somewhat familiar with what you've experienced. I know part of my mind set is that my mother had the bypass in 2007 and she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012 (but I think she was already stage four at that point). During her cancer treatments she had a difficult time consuming enough calories (dry mouth, loss of appetite), and some members of the family were convinced that part of the problem with her not getting enough nutrition was due to the bypass. In no way is anyone saying the bypass caused her cancer, just that we think it may have interfered with her getting enough calories. We tried to convince her to eat like it was her job, but I lost her in 2016; they had estimated she had 5 years but she only got 4. To be fair, that type of cancer is terminal no matter what you do, it's always just a matter of time. Another thing is, I rarely have GERD and the Schatzki's ring issue is mostly under control as long as I take my time, chew my food thoroughly, etc......which is what we need to do no matter what surgery we have! I don't know if the bypass would be any different from the sleeve for that specific issue. They suspected I had EoC when I got scoped but the results came back negative, and I had no symptoms with the ulcers. They said I might need to be scoped again to see if things have improved. They put me back on Omeprazole but from what I've read, all bariatric patients are directed to take it post-surgery. I like having the option of NSAIDS and feel like I already have enough dumping in my life, even when I'm not committing dietary crimes! In my mind, I'd rather have a little GERD now and again rather than dumping every day. But of course I would rather have surgery once and not have to get a revision down the line, so I need to consider the bypass. Thank you Lynn and Gaby :)
  10. Just be aware that if you have GERD or other stomach acid issues, the sleeve will more than likely make that worse. And, the sleeve is the *only* surgery that's not reversible as 90% of your stomach is going to end up in medical waste and contrary to popular belief, the bypass is reversible, just under specific conditions due to the added danger in reversal, but, it can and does occur. With the vitamins you are taking now, that's more than I'm required to take... I don't think you'd have an issue with the bypass in my opinion based on what you've written. Either way, you decide what you want to do, just be open to what your doctor has to say about it. I was set on the sleeve myself when I was looking at revising from the band. My surgeon wouldn't do the sleeve due to reasons specific to my case. She advised that others in her practice would do the surgery and outlined why she wouldn't. After talking with her, I agreed that her reasons were sound and decided to go with the bypass rather than the sleeve and I'll tell you this, I'm 100% glad I did. Found out I had Grade 4 Esophagitis during pre-op testing, and I had no idea. If I had gotten the sleeve, this would have gotten much much worse. But since the bypass reduces or reverses acid reflux issues, my Esophagitis is now Grade 1 after only 6 months and may be completely healed at this point (won't know until my next scoping). Just be open to *all* the facts and information and make the best choice for you based on that information rather than assumed or perceived personal preference (speaking from personal experience on this one)
  11. I have had my lapband 91/2 years and it no longer helps. My weight is going up and I don't seem to be able to get that under control. I am scheduled for a revision in Jan.
  12. Yes I would like a refund for my lapband now that it is no longer working, the money would be useful to help pay for my revision
  13. Hi everyone am interested in getting the sleeve Done I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and it's been 14yrs and I can't seem to get under 199lb so am thinking of the Revision any advice out there plz help. Sent from my SM-N910T using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. Just a heads up, that "hunger hormone removal" thing is pretty bunk. Almost all sleeve patients regain some level of hunger at some point within the first year. Both surgeries have a level of hunger changes. For both surgeries, some folks lose the sensation and never get it back, most lose it or have it greatly reduced but get it back within the first year. And some never lose it at all. The sleeve can make GERD or any acid reflux issues worse, this happens pretty often. The bypass can resolve GERD and acid reflux issues, this is very common. The sleeve is 100% un-reversible, 90% of your stomach ends up in medical waste. Contrary to popular belief, the Bypass *IS* reversible under certain circumstances, reversals don't happen often due to the danger of doing so, but they *DO* happen and it *IS* an option if something really bad happens. I was "against" the bypass originally, one of the reasons I had the band installed in 2011. With the revision, my surgeon wouldn't do the sleeve... for good reasons that were specific to my surgery, so I went with the bypass and I really couldn't be happier. Everyone is going to have their personal preferences, but overall, the bypass results in less follow up surgeries for failed WLS, has a better weight loss % and a better % of weight kept off. I won't tell you which is best for you. But for me, I truly wish I went with the bypass back in 2011.

Day 1 post Op Band to Bypass

For the most part it's because revisions are already used to and dealing with some level of restriction. So it's less of a change for us than it is for folks that go from Nothing to Full sleeve / bypass.

I had a Lap band too, revised to sleeve, but my doctor didn’t do it at once, let me have a month between surgeries... you can also get an abdominal binding belt to help you with the driving and sleep. Best of luck with all!!
  17. When she told me I don't have to do a preop diet before my revision surgery in Jan! yay, so happy, the first time was bad enough

    Stretta or Linx

When I had the Lap-Band I looked at Stretta due to acid reflux and Barretts Esophagus. Linx is a very interesting technology. I never realized that it limited your ability to vomit if necessary. I revised to a Gastric Bypass and that's cured my reflux 100%.

    Post Op Advice

Surgery (what you'll experience) and recovery were about the same for the most part. I was also banded in 2011 and had issues, I was revised to the Bypass this past March (could not be happier!). Most def bring that pillow! All other advice is really the same as the band, with the exception of, don't buy too much before surgery to prep... more than likely you either won't use it, will have too much or won't like the taste. It was advised to me that revision patients don't lose as quickly as first timers, just something to be aware of... that said, I'm down 100 lbs since March, so, your mileage may vary. Otherwise, good luck!
  21. Good morning friends. I had the lapband done in 2011 and always had issues with my band. Vomiting became a daily part of my life for years. I tried the revision process before but had obstacle after obstacle. I am now ready for revision and will have surgery on Nov 20th. We hope to remove the band and perform bypass all in one shot. I remember band surgery was not fun. What advice do you have for this soon to be bypass newbie? Advice before, day of surgery, days after surgery and etc? I read somewhere even a pillow for the ride home can be extremely helpful (my ride home will be an almost 2 hour drive if there is no traffic). So that is added to the list. Thank you so much for any info. I am very excited and nervous but cannot wait to get started on this new journey. Have a wonderful day! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision surgery

I am having a revision 11-5 due to the opening between my stomach and intestines being way too big. My pouch is still fairly small but Things are passing through my stomach quickly. I have gained about 40lbs. How was recovery for everyone? I’m having the usual pre-surgery anxiety. Thanks, Mary
