Are you a student? Do you have a job where you need to lift things? If you have a sedentary job or go to school full time I don't think you will have a problem. When I had my gall bladder out (regular incision) I could not work for the rest of the semester because I was an industrial janitor and had to lift heavy things. I had the best GPA of my college career because I got to concentrate on school instead of working! I am a corporate recruiter which is lots of sitting. I had surgery on a Thursday. Went back to work the next Monday. So nine days after surgery. Even if you are not working or standng a lot the port incision will still hurt after 10 days but it's not bad.

I followed the Quick Weight Loss plan for 10 days of my 14 day pre op diet because I knew I would loose the weight and I started my 2 shakes and 1 meal on day 11. It worked because I lost 17 lbs by my surgery date. The purpose is to get your liver to shrink for the surgery. I don't regret it because the doc said my liver looked great and smaller during the surgery. I also did water aerobics every other day during my pre op.

Hello all, My name is Mark and I am new to not only these boards but to the bariatric surgical world. I have not yet had any procedure done yet, nor have I met with the surgeon; however I am convinced this is what I want for myself. My PCP recommended lap-band as she figured my insurance would cover the procedure. I am 36 and was diagnosed as a type-2 diabetic about 10 years ago. I have never really taken my disease seriously, and it is starting to catch up to me. I have 3 small children and can't bear the thought of them growing up without me. I discovered that my insurance requires the 6 months of supervised diet, and I meet with the surgeon's dietician this Monday, 6/14. I know the wait will be long, but I know in the end it will be worth it. I have been reading some threads and such, and honestly, I am a little nervous. I read about the PB/food getting stuck, which scares me the most. I would like to know if this common or just happens on rare occaisions. Also, the surgeon mentioned 2 types of bands now, Lap-Band and Realize... do people on this board only have lap-band or is there a mix of both? Looking forward to becoming a healthier, happy me on Monday. Thanks for your ears and your patience. Mark

I am so happy that I'm living in 1DERLAND for the rest of my life!!! However, I didn't meet my April goal of 10 pounds (lost 9), so I will have to kick up for May. My goal for May is to lose 15 pounds, plus the 1 pound from April, so 16 pounds for the month of May:omg:! I can do it!!! I plan on doing more running than speed walking and no more RUFFLES:mad: ! Be Blessed!

CIGNA - questions about 5 yr history of 40 BMI
Carrie_C replied to wsw27's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have Cigna as well. My surgery is scheduled for May 22. I didn't have to provide my weight for the last 5 years, only all the diets I have tried in that time frame. I think they look more at your weight during the doctor supervised diet. They want you to have lost some during that 6 months time frame. I think they want to see a 10% loss. If you have any comorbidities, it is easier to get approved with a BMI of less than 40. By the way, I was denied twice before they finally approved it, so don't give up! Good luck! -
Hi, everyone. I look forward to contributing to this community. I was just recently banded on May 10, 2010 by Dr. Thomas Bass in South Florida. I've lost a total of 27 pounds since May 3rd when I started the pre-op process which is kind of crazy, but very exciting. I'm looking forward to losing weight, exercising, toning, all that jazz. Hopefully, we can all support each other through this journey. I look forward to learning much from everyone! -KidLaw

Hello my name is Catherine. I am wife to Sri and mom to Vee {Super Ny-ick}. We all live in Charlotte NC in a quiet neighborhood in a comfy cozy house on a small plot of once green land {all brown now!}. I decided after miniaml to no success at weightloss for about 10 years that I needed a little medical intervention before I crossed over into the 300s. I was real close too. We went in October 2009 and saw a doctor and did all that was required and it took 9 months but we are almost to the OR. My surgery is set for 8:30 am on July 8th. I have had loads pf pressure from everyone to get the bypass but the thought of going in and REALLY changing how my body works sort of scares me. I don't have any real bad co-mordities. I am pretty much just fat. I don't have high BP or diabetes. Knock on wood. I do have sleep apnea and hope that will go away after I am down lower in pounds. I do have lots of hobbies much to my husband's dismay. I love textiles and fabric and yarn are my downfall. I collect them basically. Buy them because they are beautiful and I think Oh I can use that. Eventually I do! I also have an extensive doll collection which is becoming boderline unhealthy. I have Sasha Dolls which I love dearly and plan to will to my children as I could never sell them. They can sell them when I am good and dead 50 years from now! I also collect Asian Ball Jointed Dolls. And they are worst than Lay Chips because you can not even stop after 10! And my one and true love is my little boy {uh, and my husband!}. I would give anything to make sure he is happy and complete. Even go under the knife so I can live longer and watch him grow up, marry, and have babies of his own. And if you met him you would see why he is my Super Ny-ick! Catherine

I don't think you are unrealistic about Nov. 1. My last 6 month appt was Sept. 10. I had my lap band instruction class on Sept. 16. ( I was able to schedule this once I was complete with my last 6 month visit). The Dr.'s office called on Sept 19 and told me I was approved and gave me a surgery date of Oct. 10. Good luck. I hope it goes quick for you.

You did better than I did. I'm 10 days POST-op (which isn't much different than pre-op diet). I decided I'm just not ready for outings like these where there is food and alcohol (and cigarettes). I know I will learn to handle these things, but right now I'm too new to this way of life. Good luck to you! The weekend will be over before you know it!!

I'm on day 4 of my 2 week liquid pre op diet, and I'm having similar issues with digestion and stomach cramps. I've also had 2 really intense charlie horses since being on this diet. What are you having for liquids? My diet is 3 Glucose Control Boost drinks and 2 100 cal ff yogurts. The thought of Boost and yogurt is making me gag at this point, and I still have 10 more days. I am sooooo hungry, but I want to make my liver as small as possible. I just hoping that the hunger goes away post op.

Finally got my blood thinner injections approved by insurance. Almost a week later ughhhhh. 10 more days till surgery.

Hello. While this is the first time I've been on this web forum and starting the process to weight loss surgery I am not new to the process. About 10 years ago I went through the process of getting surgery but after a few months I believed that I could do it all by myself. There were times that I was able to but then I would put the weight back on plus much more! Then I would have family members pushing for me to have surgery and I felt like a five year old. It's like when you tell your children not to go into a certain room and instead of walking away they want to see what's behind the door. I just didn't want any one telling me what to do and even though it took a lot of soul searching I realized I need help. Trust me it's not easy for me to ask for help especially when it comes to my weight. Then this past January I hurt my knees and because of my weight they are not healing properly. Walking (especially hiking) and swimming are my favorite things to do for exercise but because of my knees I am unable to do them (which I miss a lot ). I guess I have always believed myself powerful in everything but ultimately I have realized I am not powerful in this. I need help and having surgery is a great tool to get me started. One funny thing has happened since I have come to the conclusion of having this surgery.....I have actually been watching what I eat, drinking Water instead of soda (well at least less soda), and I have completely stopped smoking. My sister said that this change in my behavior might be because this time I am ready and I am inclined to believe her. I have my first of many appointments on November 1st and I am excited to meet the surgeon and his team.

IT,S SOOO GOOD TO KNOW I,M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH ALL THESE ISSUES...LOL IT I DIDN,T FIND THIS SITE I WOULD BE INSANE BY NOW. I HAVE BEEN BANDED 11 WEEKS NOW AND WHILST I WAS BEING VERY FOCUSED AND DISCIPLINED FOR 10 WEEKS RIGHT UP TILL MY FIRST FILL WAS DUE I WAS THEN TOLD THE DAY BEFORE MY APPT THAT IT HAD BEEN CANCELLED! DUE TO INCOMPETENCE FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER ANYWAY I WAS FURIOUS AND PRE MENTSTRUAL AND HAD ALL SORTS OF ISSUES I NEEDED TO SPEAK TO THE DOC ABOUT AND JUST FELT DEVASTATED! I HAVE TROUBLE GETTING AN APPT THAT FITS IN WITH WORK AND SO HAVE TO WAIT TILL NOV16 NOW. I DON,T KNOW IF IT,S BECAUSE OF HAVING TO WAIT EVEN LONGER OR WETHER IT,S JUST PART OF THE PROCESS BUT THIS WEEKEND I WAS SOOO OUT OF CONTROL. I DRANK WINE, I ATE CRISPS AND CHOCOLATE AND NOW I FEEL REALLY DISSAPOINTED AND ASHAMED OF MYSELF. I DON,T FEEL LIKE I AM GETTING MUCH SUPPORT FROM THE SERVICE PROVIDER IN FACT I COULD WRITE A BOOK ON THE FARCE I HAVE HAD WITH THEM BUT THAT,S ANOTHER STORY, SO LIKE I SAID THIS SITE IS A LIFESAVER FOR ME I SEE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND I GET ALL THE ADVICE I COULD WANT. SORRY FOR RAMBLING ON SO LONG , IT,S GOOD TO VENT THOUGH.

does anyone else have this trouble
grannyk replied to JamieLynn77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 4-14-11 so am not having to deal with the yet. I get to start full liquids tomorrow!!! However, my daughter was sleeved on 7-1-10 and has lost 90 lbs to date. She is a carb watcher, so when she eats something like chicken nuggets or strips or anything breaded, she will take the breading off and eat maybe one small bite of breading to three bites of chicken. That way she is concentrating on her protein intake but getting a little of the breading flavor along with the meat. You might give that a try. I look forward to the day -
Did anybody gain weight while in the hosp?
rainyann replied to Elizabethtash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained almost 10 pounds... it eventually came off but it was upsetting to me. No one told me that would happen. The surgeon said some people are still heavier at the 1 week post-op visit....Don't despair! -
Home From Vegas ... Gained 3 Lbs
5McK replied to blackanese25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope you had a blast in Vegas! Don't beat yourself up for the gain. Think about what you would have gained if you didn't have the sleeve!!! Now that the vacay is over, time to get back on track. It may take a few days, but that scale will start moving again in the right direction and that will inspire you to do better. I had the same thing happen over Christmas. Took me about 10 days to get things back on track and then the weight started coming off again. I've lost 12 pounds since then. Keep you chin up sister!! -

I've only lost 2 lbs since fill.....and that's after I called and said was there a mistake on my appt card....it was origianlly scheduled for 12 wks from my last fill!!!!! If my scales don't start moving I'm gonna drive the office crazy begging for fills!!!! -
I was banded with the Realize Band June 25 and as of two days ago I have lost 10 pounds. Im still on liquids and its going okay. Im having to be creative on what liquids to have, but Im not hungry like I use to be before the band. I also haven't had a fill. I'm hoping to not gain the weight back once I start on solids. Overall, it has been worth it and Im excited about my future with the band.

Can everyone PLEASE post
Sarah Youngs Riley replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am new to Lap Band Talk. I had my surgery March 10, 2009. To date I have lost 41lbs. I am one of the slow losers, but considering I have PCOS I feel pretty good about that loss. Next month will make 6 months so if I can lose 7 more lbs by then I will be exactly 1/2 way to goal at the 1/2 way mark. I look forward to chatting with others who had their surger yaround the same time.
