    Gaining weight

Suggest u keep track of foods u eat (I love myfitnesspal and it is free). I am 8 weeks out and ...my goal is 800 calories per day and 65-70'grams off Protein.per day. I do eat fruit with my Protein shakes..sometimes bran cereals with milk, veggies, very little rice, 1/2 slice of 40 calorie bread, I try to eat my protein first. And many times I cannot anything else on my plate cause I am completely satisfied. Exercise has really helped me with a stall I was having for two weeks. I Do cardio for 30 minutes at a medium strenuous pace..the I do machines for my upper /lower body. Get back to basic and u should start losing again. Also r u eating very salty food. ..part of your weight gain maybe be salt retention.
  3. Well I am 2 weeks post op and gained 1.4 lbs!!!!! How is that possible? Things have been going great but when I stepped on the scale this morning I had gained weight. Of course I was disappointed and now all I wanna do is figure out what I was doing wrong. Could I already be hitting a stall? Some advice would be great!!

definitely you are too tight...go in and have them take a little out and see if that helps. I am on my 2nd round of being too tight and had the same feelings. (I let mine go too long and had swelled so bad from it had to have a complete unfill for a month again...aarrgghh...so am trying to maintain the weight gain as much as possible but it is hard being back to square 1 again) If you feel that lump in your throat etc...it is because you are too tight and the food is sitting on the top of your band not going thru. A slight unfill should help as you dont want food sitting there. Eventually it will lead to "acid" type issues which can be dangerous too.
  5. Sabrina, this is a very personal decision. For me, WLS is like marriage - if you have any doubts, just wait. You can always do it later. There is truth in that diets result in weight gain 95% of the time and the weight does not stay off. You can research that. However, you are the only one who knows your body and your ability to keep weight off. Personally, it kept coming back and the older I get the harder it is to lose it. WLS was the right decision for me. Good luck however you choose.

    Am i crazy?

7 Months out and I've been hit with baby fever! My older 2 are 2.5 years apart, and if I were to conceive now, the middle and baby will be 2.5 years apart! I've lost 100lbs with another 50 to go till goal. Am I crazy for wanting a baby now? I was planning a tummy tuck for the beginning of 2016 so I'm not worried about stretching my tummy. A little worried about weight gain. Any insight? Also, does anyone have 3 kids? Is it bad having an odd number? I have 2, and would have my tubes tied after the third.

    A Question for the Veterans

I had the surgery 8/17/2009 and everything went very easy. I was back at work the first of September, by Christmas I was down 50 pounds and by spring I was down 112 pounds, feeling great and looking good, then something happened and I started haveing acid reflux and putting on weight again. Everytime I go in for a check up (According to my doctors) it is always something I have done wrong, Eating to much , eating to fast. It is disgusting after awhile. This fall something went wrong with the band, or my pouch. I was not able to keep anything down, I had Acid Reflux everytime I laid down. If I ate anything after 5:00 I would vomit it back up as soon as I laid down, Two spoon fulls of food anytime durring the day time filled me up. I went in for a check and after 37 minutes the sip of barrium still had not gone through the band. I still gained 14 pounds in the 2 1/2 months I put up with this problem waiting to get into see the doctor ( He is in India) last week I went in on an emergency basis and the band was drained but the weight gain was still my fault according to my nutrionist. I go back in Friday to discuss removal of the band. So I guess I shall see what happens. I am also Diabetic and have Crohn's so my prognosis is not great.

    Valentine's Challenge

Sorry for the late post! I have gained 2 pounds on the scale but do not think it is real. Not possible LOL. So technically I am 228 but I think without water weight gain I am still 226.

    Weight gain

Hello. I had my surgery on Tuesday. When they weighed me after surgery in the hospital I gained 5 pounds. I chalked it up to bloating and tried not to let it get to me. I weighed myself today and I still weigh the same amount. 5 lbs more than the morning of my surgery. Is that normal 5 days out??? Please be honest with me.

    Food Funeral

Please don't beat yourself up. I had so many food funerals that I gained 10 pounds from when I initially saw my surgeon in November to when I saw her again in December. Thankfully I'm doing the preop diet and have lost everything that I gained. But looking back I'm really angry at myself because the weight gain just made my goal farther away.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

I know it's hard when you see the scale go the wrong way...but rest assured, there is NO way that you actually gained 4 pounds...you would have had to have eaten 14,000 calories for that to happen. It can be so many things....water retention, sodium, muscle gain, etc. I had to finally put the scale away because I was eating 600-700 calories, and gaining 1-2 pounds...it's not real weight gain, so the scale is now hidden and I can only weigh once a week. As my husband tells me ALL the time...I have to look at the entire forest, not just the trees. It'll come off!
  15. Hi. I gained about 8 pounds from the time of my first MD visit to my last MD visit and Cigna approved the surgery despite my weight gain.
  16. Did anyone who has Cigna gain weight while they were seeing the nutritionist and waiting for incurance approval? I had my first nutrition apt at the beginning of November and my last one will be in February and my weight has fluctuated the entire time (up and down). My BMI is 43 and my coordinator or counselor has not said anything to me about the weight gain and if this would be a factor in my insurance approval. I look up Cigna's policy and I don't see where it says anything about this. Anyone else have this situation and can let me know what their outcome was? Thanks!!!

    Uncomfortable.. Gas, Under Ribcage.

I have the same type of under rib and sternum pain and pressure with upper stomach gas. So tired of pain and bloating. I'm happy to say after six years my band is being removed and a sleeve done on 2/14. My band the first three years was ok. Lost 140lbs basically by eating chicken and beef soup and exercising. Soups were the only way I could get real solid protein. Then years four through six have been hell with pain and weight gain. The band isn't a real solution in my opinion.

The sleeve has made me a snacker.

I was a grazer before surgery and could still eat constantly if I let myself. There isn't anything wrong with snacking per se, but for those of us who eat w/o being hungry, it can be a problem. If I can fit in 500 calories into my pouch and eat 3X a day, then I'm at 1500 calories and pretty much OK. If I eat 6X times a day and still go for 500 calories per meal, then I have a problem. Some people modulate how much they eat when they eat more frequently. Sadly, this was never the case for me. You are almost 10 lbs below goal now, so the snacking doesn't seem to be hurting you. A word of caution, though. I can eat a lot more now than I could at 1 year or even two years out. If the same ends up being true for you, the snacking will lead to weight gain.

    Menstrual cycles

My obgyn says the anesthesia during surgery can throw off our periods. I'm due again around feb 10 and I'm hoping I don't get the heavy clotting and dizziness that sent me to ER on jan 13. Nuts!!! I'm on Iron supplements too 27mcg 1x a day -- metabolic weightloss doc put me on Vitamin k for one month due to all the menstrual bleeding and OB also gave me aygestin to help slow down extra heavy bleeding next month if it happens for more than 6 hours I'm so hoping I never have to go through that again it's so scary and worse than dehydration for me Wouldn't want to go on any birth control pills either due to weight gain and the bad experience I had with them 6 years ago with rapid heart beat (I was on yasmine) I'll be 7 weeks out tomorrow and feeling so much better these days
  20. Hello to everyone, It has been such a long time since I have been on the boards. I had my surgery 2009 and have not yet made it to goal, still have this last 25 pounds to go. I was wondering if the band has to have any fluid put back in after all this time or does it remain with the same amount of fluid with the weight loss. My doctor is going out of business and now I have to find another doctor in the Raleigh area. I will not complain about the band as the band has done what it suppose to do. I find myself not being able to eat a lot of things but I sometimes try anyway. The last couple of months I have had problems with the food not going down and getting sick. I just need some support because I know I can do this. The weight gain has only been 13 pounds in 3 yrs but I did not want that. I started out at 240 with my lowest weight being 173. My goal was 160 and I really want to get there but I am back at 183 currently. What would be some suggestions to help? In 2012 my niece was murdered and it has been a downward spiral for me. I have started to exercise everyday with a couple of co-workers but I just need some support right now. Feeling a little lost right now but need to find another doctor also. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. It’s tough being around loud, pushy people who voice every emotion they feel when they feel it. On the opposite end of the spectrum and easier to be around are quiet people who don’t complain and keep their feelings to themselves. As it turns out, your body begins suffering physical symptoms when you hold unresolved emotional feelings inside. Research supports that the more the emotional baggage is felt internally, the worse it is for the body. Nowhere is this demonstrated as clearly as heart disease or with emotional issues such as depression and anxiety. Women’s bodies are another area that suffers from emotions held in is. According to experts in mind/body medicine, our emotions affect our bodies because they are linked to our bodies via our immune, endocrine and central nervous systems. Just as a broken heart affects our heart and can lead to death, what we feel affects our body and how effective it works. For women, emotions such as unresolved grief or anger at a partner can cause intestinal problems and headaches as easily as it can cause chronic pelvic pain, and many other bodily issues. Holding in emotions weakens your body’s immune system which make it tougher to ward off colds, infections, and when you do get sick you have a more difficult time getting well. Observing a list of body functions affected when women (or men) hold in their emotional baggage is staggering. This is why when you become ill it is so important to evaluate what you are feeling, and what you have been feeling for the past six months because some illnesses, such as rheumatoid arthritis, may take months to become symptomatic. Constipation or diarrhea, as well as stomach pain/ulcers Back/Neck pain Depression Insomnia High blood pressure Anxiety/Depression Weight gain or loss (eating disorders always have an emotional aspect) Sexual problems Rheumatoid arthritis Fibromyalgia Asthma Cancers (for example, pancreatic cancer may present with depression before the patient is symptomatic with cancer) Emotional healing is very different from physical healing. When I worked with cancer patients I was reminded of this fact many times. The tumor went away, and the body healed, but the mind lingered sometimes for years over the experience of losing hair, a body part and/or trust in your body. Counseling becomes a wonderful way to release pent up feelings so you can heal emotionally. There are many ways you can help your loved one or yourself unpack your emotional baggage. Try these suggestions and practice them frequently. Laugh as much as you can. Watch funny videos and allow yourself to laugh out loud. Cry when you need to, don’t hold it in, and just let it flow. Practice voicing, “I’m angry.” You don’t have to do an action with it, just say it out loud and say why. Mindful actions. Before you take any medication for a headache, tummy ache, backache, to stay awake, or to fall asleep, ask yourself what am I holding on to. Begin jotting things down. This small action offers huge rewards. Massages are a common treatment for people who have gone through horrendous crisis, and they’re also a wonderful treatment for fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Breathe and let go of held in emotional pain as the therapist works on the body part that holds the physical pain. Medical care has come a long way with advancements in treating so many illnesses. Your body is more than physical though; there is an emotional and soulful part, which is more complicated to treat. Knowing yourself and being able to express uncomfortable feelings is healthy, not only for your mind, but for your body and soul as well. –Mary Jo Rapini

    Menstrual cycles

I am six months out, and just visited the gyno last week to get on hormonal birth control to control the deluge...I took two sick days for the last one! It's hard to explain what kind of "sick" you are to your male boss, and female coworkers who might think you're being wimpy, heh. My cycles are getting closer together and much heavier and painful each month since the surgery. I was wondering if losing weight has made me fertile Myrtle or something. But it's definitely problematic...hopeful the BC helps more than the bummer side effects (like weight gain). Good luck to everyone having the same issues!
  23. It depends. I was blessed to have been able to have mine removed. My quality of life improved dramatically and no more weight gain then I would have had with the band. But I can eat more healthy foods now.
  24. You can gain back weight, that is a fact. Surgeon is altering size of your stomach and not doing brain surgery. If you decide after surgery to eat junk, hello weight gain. Even a person with thier jaw wired can gain weight by sucking down unlimited malt shakes and smoothies. So - saying this I want to encourage you that you ARE going to keep off the weight. Choose to make permanent changes BEFORE surgery. The sleeve is only a tool allowing you to lose the weight. I am at 3 1/2 years out. I am still right around surgeons goal. Sure I have bad days were I choose to eat junk. But one day does not determine permanant gain. I choose to make the sleevie wonder work. Be a loser forever. I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

    Acid reflux

I tried all of the above mentioned solutions...raised the head of our bed, Nexium 2X a day, restricted eating and drinking in the evenings, avoided acid producing foods. Nothing helped until my band was totally unfilled. I understand concerns Bandsters have about restriction levels and gaining weight. I was able to continue to lose even with an unfilled band. Every one is an individual, and my solutions may not work for others. Removing Fluid does not need to mean weight gain. Best wishes to feel better...
