    I'm sorry that I have taking so long to repost. I jus got off the phone with my bariatic clinic they say that every clinic may say something different. About what they want their patients to do but everyone is different but caffine can; prolong healing, cause dehydration, cause weight gain, and caluim absorbsion difficultly. Are all possible as well as it is addictive. Bad for your nervers. Yeah I was a coffee drinker but all that info just came from my clinic and that's why I posted it. Not cuz I didn't like it. But I must admit. I have cheated and tryed a sip or two but its jus not the same anymore. I've past my goal weight. Clinic said I had to be 222 before being able to seting appointment to see the surgeon.and I'm now at 215 so I will post again soon. Hope I was helpful. Keep in touch everyone. Stay focused.

    Newbie!

    I don't know of anything that will get you back on track and keep you on track better than logging your food. My Fitness Pal highly recommended but there are other apps that do pretty much the same thing. I've been logging for over two years and would be lost without it. I manage my weight. Literally. It's been well over a year since I hit my maintenance weight of 155 lbs. In that time my weight has never been outside of a 151 to 156 window. This morning it was 153.8. And I never experienced any "bounce back" weight gain. Log your food, weigh yourself often (I weigh daily since reaching my maintenance weight) and respond quickly to weight changes approaching the limits of your window. If your weight is a little too high, reduce your daily calorie goal by 100-200 calories for a day or two and it will come right back down. Weight a little too low (it does happen), increase your calorie goal by 100-200 calories for a day or two and it will come back up. I've done both. Many times. And it works like a charm. But it all starts with logging your food. Commit to logging for 90 days and you'll be amazed at how fast, easy and effective managing your weight can be!!

    Fighting your food! Getting tired of it?

    Also fogot to mention that since my first fill ofc3 cc I can only eat 2-3 bites then it comes up. But usually I can then eat the rest of my food. This happens at almost every meal. I am not as excited with this fill as I was before it. And I take a few weight gaining pills for my bipolar and even with the fill I am losing very slowly...almost too slow. I try to watch what I eat but when I get really hungry I eat whatever will go down the easiest. Bad choice? And my hair is falling out. It was thin bc of hypothyroidism but now have a few balding spots. I see my endocrinologist today so maybe get my thyroid in check and maybe with eating more protein my hair will start coming back. There's alot more but I'll leave it like this. Thx

    My name is Jane. You ladies can call me that, if you want. Doneganregiime, I buy my arch support inserts at Walmart, but I buy the men's ones. I have big feet, and I'm heavy, so those work well for me. They are about $15 a pair, so I have several sets. It says on the pkg that they are for plantar's fasciitis. Dlm59, I'm eating just about everything now, except things like raw apples, steak, and stuff like that. I'm so used to counting carbs from past diets, that it is a relief to not have to worry about them yet. Once I eat my Protein, there's not much room left anyway. MJM, the weight gain is from the IV, I feel certain. No way you can be gaining any other way! I'm just so glad you're doing better! I had a small bit of barbecue pork for dinner, with about a tablespoon of baked potato. YUM! I fixed the pork in the crock pot, so it was super tender. Have a good Wednesday!
  6. Just thought I'd share some stats for those of you that weigh everyday and get freaked out by gaining a pound or two some days. I went to urgent care yesterday because I was really dehydrated (I've got a clostridial infection causing diarrhea). They took my vitals including weight before giving me 3liters IV. Needless to say I felt instantly better and returned home. This morning I did my normal weekly weigh in and I was 11 pounds up from yesterday! So keep in mind how much hydration status and Fluid intake/output plays a role in your daily weight fluctuation.

    Long term Vet success strategies

    I think this thread was asking how us Vets continue to be sucessful. I am happy I am not pre sleeve or even in my first 6 months of being sleeved, so I know I will not get in trouble weighing myself or drive my self nuts. Smile!!!! I like to see what is happening to my body before there are any changes in the mirror or a change in the way my clothes fit. For me if I waited that long, that would be a 10lbs or more weight gain. The scale is on the top of my list, because being a woman, my weight fluctuates through out the month. It helps me to know what is going on with my body. I also have a husband and kids that do not eat the same way that I do. Sometimes, Mr Sweetpee brings home some really wonderful delectable food for the entire family. I even cook our favorite meals on special occasions which can cause weight gain. And for me, and being a woman, weight is so much harder to get off. So when I notice I have gained 2lbs, or 5lbs, I know I better do something about it quickly, (work harder at the gym) and this is where weighing myself everyday comes in. I do not eat the right portion sizes and the right foods 100 percent of the times. I have to be balanced or I would drive my family crazy. Let me explain: 90 percent of the time, all I eat are vegetables, fruits, nuts, and Beans. I eat organic! I am extremely particular about what I eat. I could go on and on about my obsession with organic and Non GMO, and so on. I drive 1 hour just to get soy free organic eggs every week. However, then there are other times I like to have a hamburger and french fries and enjoy a fast food meal while on a road trip with my family. But in the back of my mind, I am thinking that the hormone injected beef and the chemical pesticide lettuce and tomatoes, and the heart stoping oil soaked salty fries are going to kill me. Then I say - "Oh Well, it's been a whole year since I ate a burger!" I eat it and enjoy it!!!., And yes I do enjoy it!!!! I enjoy it a lot , because those are very rare occasions that I will allow my self to do it. Also the holiday food. (Thanksgiving and Christmas) Those are once a year times where I have a party in my mouth, but I am a vet, and I know how to enjoy those occasions, then get right back on track. I weight my self and say, OMG, 3lbs, did I really eat that much! I am a vet, so I know how to enjoy those things and get back on track. What helps me quickly force myself to do what I am suppose to do? My scale: I love my scale! Also after plastic surgery, I could not exercise the way I wanted to. Most of the time I could not exercise at all. I had to take it very slow, and very easy. It has been so hard getting back into physical shape post surgery. Since I could not exercise regularly, I had to stay on the scale, eat right, and monitor myself even closer so as not to gain weight. This has also been a cold winter and I admit, there has been some lazy none exercise days, when I curl up under the covers and watch TV. The scale has helped me through those times after surgery to maintain my weight. My scale motivates me in a positive way. I no longer see 270lbs on my scale. Today my scale told me I weigh 136lbs. I am still smiling about that!!! It is my tool that I use to gauge myself. My scale: I love my scale! Happy Happy Happy Vet! Sweetpee
  8. I had gastric bypass may 10, 2010 and lost 154 lbs-best decision I ever made for myself...but I've gained 30 of it back. I know a little weight gain is normal, but I've gone back to old bad habits!! Any post ops go through this?? And if so, HELP!
  9. Hello everyone, My nickname is Izzy and I am happy to have found support as my WLS journey begins. I am 36 years old and have dealt with weight gain since i reached puberty. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism, metabolic syndrome, asthma and pre-diabetis. And with all these disorders I never thought I would have WLS. I was naive and thought it was an easy way out. Boy was I wrong! this takes a lot of courage, letting go, allowing support from others and I am sure I will find out what else it requires. Well after battle-ling with severe lower back pain,for 1 1/2 years, that made it hard to enjoy my life as before and gaining 30lbs that took me 4 years to loose, i finally listened to my doctors and decided to do this surgery. Its was a scary and hard road just to get all the tests. Now 6 days post surgery I am so happy and looking forward to a new life. I look forward to learning from others here. -Izzy
  10. I had to laugh because I have not gotten that 'holy crap' moment I've been waiting for from anyone either. The other day someone at work took a good look at me and said your ponytail looks nice lol. I'm like really that's the best I can get out of people! I keep thinking 5 more pounds, 10 more pounds and then it will come. I think maybe people don't want to acknowledge my weight loss because they politely ignored my weight gain. Loose skin, wrinkles and hair loss but I just keep truckin along. Maybe a summer tan will do the trick lol .....signed, Hopeful

    Having all my evaluation pre req appts today. So far my metabolism is totally normal, so the weight gain problem is MY BRAIN, lol. Everything else is coming out normal and good for surgery. Woohoo!

    16 days Post-Op, Sad & full of regret

    fIt it helps, I have been on this board for over 3 years, and almost NO ONE is sorry they got the surgery and the restrictions you end up with in the long run. In fact this is the honeymoon, and those restrictions we feel early on are the very reason we are losing weight. Later it is much easier to eat and drink what and how much you want. I can Gulp Water now, and around 6 gulps I get this little voice saying "STOP!!" I even end up having to hold the last half gulp in my mouth until I can feel the water empty out of my stomach so I can swallow! It makes me smile really, I know that tummy is still little because I could glug water until the cows came home before surgery. After letting it go down, I can gulp some more. Easy Peasy. Really, now is the time to learn about how to eat less and feel good about it, because later on it might be easy to eat alot more, and hinder weight loss or even have weight gain. It really is a learning curve, but one that can be so enjoyable, and when you start looking like and feeling like the you you want to be, those little things you give up, are just little things. I have foodie friends who were really worried I had ruined my ability to socialize with them around a good meal, but now, they are not worried at all. I do eat less, but I do still like to eat! You will be fine. I think getting into your AA contact about it is a great idea, I can see how this is overwhelming for you, but you will be fine in time. One foot in front of the other.

    today is my 17th day and I have gained 1.5 lbs!! I am walking drinking my liquids so why this gain.. I am depressed.my body has always resisted to weight loss.now if it resists to sleeve also..oh no.

    WILL POWER?

    You know, I always feel like the odd one out when it comes to eating & these kinds of threads here. My problem never was overeating/being addicted to food or anything like that. Growing up, I was around a mom who barely ate, an older sister & younger brother who depended on fast food (they are sticks and can eat a houses worth of food daily) and a dad who was always gone at work. I ended up picking up my moms eating habits, because fast food always has completely grossed me out in every way possible, and I was too young to really make my own food when it started. It took my doctors a good 5 years of constantly running blood tests and me pretty much living in my hospitals lab work area to figure out what was wrong with me. But as soon as they realized that my weight came on from massively under eating, they were constantly trying to push me into nutritionists and getting me to eat what I should be. My biggest issues with nutritionists is that the amount of food they want me to eat, is way too much for me. I could not keep up with her meal plans without physically getting sick, by the amount of it. My weight gain came from the fact that I never ate enough. It didn't matter how active I was growing up, because anything I did eat, my body grabbed on to. It wasn't until I was 18 that I fully understood that myself, when my doctors started telling me how worried they were because it was seemingly impossible for me to lose weight until I started eating more. I have always eaten healthy, always. I can't stand sugar, candy, cake, ice cream, most Desserts, or anything like that. I don't do chips, or excessive amounts of cheese. I was the healthiest person in my family in terms of eating, and yet I was the only one with the weight issue. Early 2012 I continued with my healthy eating, but added more vegetables/etc to my meals, and then by the time my lap band surgery came around, I was eating enough for the weight to start coming off with my exercising schedules. I've been slower than most here with the weight loss (two years - 112 pounds), but my doctors are constantly reminding me that it's harder for me to lose weight because mine didn't come from overeating. TL;DR: I've been programmed to eat healthy, so I've had no will power issues at all. My main thing is just making sure I do get my three meals a day in, just to continue with the weight loss.
  15. Got on the scale today and I am up 4 pounds from last week!!! CRAP!!!! Is this normal, does this happen, how can I not freak out about this?? ???? My brain is going crazy with a million thoughts. Did I stretch my pouch, can I eat more than I should, is this my fault from eating something a little too calorie high? Did I not exercise enough? I feel like I want to cry
  16. I've always been aware of what it took to lose weight and if I could lose 2 lbs a week I was grateful. But when I was banded, I got this googley eyed notion I was going to lose 10 lbs every month. And you know what? I didn't? So, if you're new or in a stall. Do the math. Every pound put on came from 3500 calories you consumed. So, every lb of fat you lose will require you burn off 3500 more calories than you consume(easy to get googley eyed and forget this) So, if your body needs 1400 calories a day to function normally, and let's say you walk and burn off 300 calories a day through exercise, you're body needs 1700 calories/day to maintain. And if you consume 1000 calories/day your deficit will be 700 calories a day or 4900/week. That equals about 1.4 lbs a week you'll lose. Now throw in Water weight gains and losses it's going to be up and down but mostly down. Good luck.
  17. Each day there are more and more newly banded people here who are questioning their weight loss. You think you should have lost more or be losing more then you have. A loss is a loss whether it be pounds or inches. You are not going to lose weight every day, every week or even every month in some cases. No one that is obese ever gained 100lbs over night or some even over a year. It was a gradual weight gain that will take time to get rid of. You're questioning what am I doing wrong. If you are following the plan that your doctor put in place for you to the T then you are doing nothing wrong. As the body loses weight it has to catch up if you initially lose a lot in the beginning. People have went months with no weight loss but as long as you are not gaining you will get there. 1 to 2lbs a week is normal for a lapband patient. If it's more then you're that much more ahead of the game. Be patient, stay off the scale. Weigh yourself once a week or every other so you won't suffer disappointment and question if you made the right decision. If you can't stop weighing yourself then you have to stop being disappointed every time you don't lose. Just hang in there it will happen if you are doing exactly what you are suppose to be doing. You can't eat ice cream, cake, Cookies, potato chips and all the other junk food and wonder why the scale is not moving. Drink your Water, eat your portion size and make sure most of that is Protein, make sure you get 8 hours of sleep at night because you lose weight when you are sleeping, make sure you are moving your bowels every day and stop stressing. You will get there.
  18. I had to take the 2 antibiotics and a PPI's for this. Make sure you take all three because it can come back. I didn't gain weight. It can cause weight gain if you get an overgrowth from yeast because of the antibiotics . Also after you are done with the meds start taking a very good probiotic. There are good ones like Dr. Oheria I think is the best. There are others like Renew Life. Best of luck to you

    I was thinking the same thing, mostly because that sounds like the kind of guy I would fall for! (and pay for it later...) Gotta love the comment from the guys! I would have been totally blushing! That is a great "moment" and a lovely reality check about what the guys are thinking too! I am doing a happy dance for you, but not singing at the same time yet... waiting for it to "stick" before I break out in song! OK, Im doing a play by play analysis of my holiday weight gain/loss... Looks like I actually gain before holidays rather than on them! (lead up parties I guessing!) the chart shows 5 pounds between the lines...

    Am I stretching my sleeve?

    Thanks! I think making new habits that include big crunchy salads will help us stay on track! I personally like having a big bowl in front of me... I can't always eat it all, but it makes me feel normal. The stomach will relax and stretch a little over time, but filling it in with lots of veggies is a great way to stay on track... I think my stomach stopped getting bigger at around a year out. I had trouble with weight gain after that time... but filling it up with veggies, raw and cooked, helped me feel full without the calories.

    Came back to forum, because I need support...

    All of the above dialogue was very encouraging. I have been away from this site for a while, but am back. I could use the lift from folks who understand. I have recommitted to the journey and am looking to the future in a more positive manner. I have had several ups and downs with fills/unfills, slippage and weight gain. My mind is on the mend, therefore I anticipate seeing better weight loss until I reach my goal! Thanks everybody for your comments!!
  22. It was good to read everyone's posts. I had been on a roller coaster with fills and unfills. My band has slipped twice due to my own negligence. The last time I had to be emptied completely for 6 weeks. That was a very critical time because I had NO restriction at all so I did gain weight. Afterwards I didn't recover well from the weight gain, so I gained even more. I am just now getting back on track and my PA has been adjusting my fills up and down until I get back to the right place. I know that I cannot eat dry chicken, breads, or asparagus without problems. Today, I found out that pork neckbones don't sit well with me either, Up-chucked it all! I find that sometimes it's trial and error. Other times, I just know better to not eat certain things like breads. After 4 years, I've only lost 52lbs, then gained back almost half of it. I am refocused and plan to get support here for encouragement to continue in the right direction until I get to my goal weight. I hope to have significant weight loss before the spring. I haven't posted here in a very, very long time and miss it. It helps to share with those who have gone through the same things and understand this Lapband journey.

    Any Chicago sleevers

    I have a six month medically supervised diet because of my insurance. My first one was in September and last will be tomorrow. The first and last will be with dr.berger the four in between were with Amanda the dietician. My psych eval was in October and there were two of them. The dietician is really strict about not having any weight gain during those six months! So be careful around your weigh ins with her. Other than that it has all been a bunch of waiting, not much else to do until I guess the pre-op testing.

    weight gain

    I had my sleeve 20th and lost 10 lbs the first week. I have gained 2 lbs since then. How can that happen. Only eating protein shakes and some eggs and ricotta cheese. So upset!
  25. I have always gained three to five pounds when my period hits. This has stayed true since surgery. Once it is over I will loose the weight gained plus another pound or two. Hope this helps.
