Congrats! I had mine removed and revised to the sleeve October 10th.

Congrats on your LB removal! I know when I had mine removed, I felt much better physically. I chose not to get revision right away and did pretty well for about 5 years. Then life threw me some curve balls and I gained my weight back. I spent 2 years trying to do it on my own before I realized that I needed help. I got revision to sleeve on 4/10 and am very happy with my decision.

Congrats! I'm also pleased I had mine removed. I was revised to the bypass and I honestly could not be happier with my decision!

Yes, that is exactly how I feel. I had the VSG in December 2014. A month or so after I had horrible GERD and my “full sensor” was way off within about 6 months. I only lost about 45 pounds total in the last 4 years and decided to get the revision. I got the bypass a few weeks ago and immediately there was no sign of Gerd. I’m praying my weight loss is much better.

October 30th Sleeve to Bypass revision surgery. The sleeve caused me to have major Gerd. It’s all gone now. I only lost about 45 pounds with the sleeve so I am nervous that I won’t lose the weight I want to lose with the bypass and this is really my last chance.

Looking for other Anthem Blue Cross PPO experiences.

So when I had my band placed in 2009 I had to prove what diets I had already been on, a psychological evaluation and all the physical stuff. Then In 2016 when I had my gastric bypass done I just had the doctor handle things. They wanted to make sure it was medically necessary for the revision. They paid all but 20 percent or up to my out of pocket max which I believe is $2800. Hope this helped! -

Hey there fellow bariatric pals. I am looking for advice or anyone with similar experience. I have GS March 2014 with top weight of 250 at 5'6" BMI 41. I lost about 55 lbs which my lowest weight has never exceeded about 185. (Goal weight about 165) So, at this time, I have gained back some weight and am at 200 lbs. So about 15 lbs back again. My doctor recommended perhaps having the Duodenal Switch/Revision to continue to take more weight off. But, I really only need to lose about 30-35 lbs. I am afraid that I will get under 160 lbs and be too thin. Has anyone had the DS after the sleeve? Still researching and trying to make the best decision. Thanks to all for your time to read and comment. NY1966

I had a revision from lapband to bypass last December and 3 weeks later had a leak. I was hospitalized for 49 days, on TPN, and horribly sick. Now, almost a year later, I’m finally starting to feel back to normal. I’m 3 pounds from my weight goal. Its been a really rough year. However, I really can’t say I regret it because I’m so happy with the results! Leaks are very rare, so yes it’s a possibility, but still very unlikely. Don’t worry, and I wish you the best of luck!

How long dis it take to see your stomach go down
Matt Z replied to shany1567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a pretty subjective area, *most* don't see any real losses in that area until much later down the road, belly fat seems to be the last to go for most people. I've still got a decent amount even after over 100 lbs since revision and 160 lbs lost since I started... -
That's tough man... Sadly there really isn't a way to make the hunger pains go away, typically I'd say just pound the water, but you said you were having issues with water. Personally, I'm so glad I had the band removed and revised to the bypass, I'd never go back or ever advise anyone to get the band. I hope the refill works for you.

Anyone get bypass surgery for gerd?
CyclicalLoser replied to atomicbeing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had terrible Gerd, then I got the lap band. All of the gerd went away (Or so I thought). I woke up in the morning spending the first couple hours clearing my throat. The surgeon told me it was probably "silent GERD". Right after my revision surgery from the band to the RNY, the throat clearing was fixed. I have a family member who was thinking about having bariatric surgery. They have GERD really bad, and the surgeon also recommended the RNY. He said that the sleeve is a high pressure setup which has a tendency to push up stomach acid. This is coming from a surgeon who does mostly sleeves, so I wouldn't say he was biased against sleeves in general. -

Just seems to go straight through me and I'm a month out after revision to mini gastric bypass. I suspect my hole between my stoma and my intestine is large because I don't have any problems drinking just like I used to. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

Well, what's a lot? And what's a lot left? What surgery did you have? When did you have that surgery? What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? What is your height? Do you know what your BMI is? Are you tracking your caloric intake? Are you tracking your water intake? Is your Caloric Intake lower than your BMI and Caloric burn each day? Are you getting upwards of 128 oz of water? Also, check into Intermittent Fasting. I got stalled out really hard at around 230-240 (I started at 370, lost a bit, gained a bit, then had a revision from band to bypass when I was 310.) and Intermittent Fasting was the white horse I needed to get me through that stall down to my current weight of 209.

There are medical studies about GERD and VSG, but the most recent that I'm aware of showed no correlation or limited correlation. That being said, from experience there are quite a few people on forums like this that complain of GERD after VSG. But it seems to be hit or miss and just because you had or did not have GERD before VSG does not predict whether or not you'll have it. I seem to be constantly battling it. It's not so severe that I'd do anything drastic about it, I just wish I could get off the PPI's (Nexium) because I don't want to be on them for life. I do see quite a few revisions on here from VSG to RNY because of severe GERD. If you have to have a revision, I would say that you will have to go through most of the usual pre and post-op challenges you did with the sleeve and yes, that might include hair loss. Tellogen effluvium is not specific to type of surgery, but more because of the shock to your system. ANY surgery could cause it, even non-bariatric surgery because anesthesia and the healing process disrupts the growth cycle of your hair. Good luck!

Acid reflux
nomorefattypatty replied to nomorefattypatty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I do end up revising to the bypass will it help me lose more weight, will I lose my hair again and do I have to go back to eating the post op diet again? Sorry this is a multiple question but I need to know tyvm Sent from my N9560 using BariatricPal mobile app -
there is definitely a risk of GERD with the sleeve surgery. A majority of people DON'T get it, but enough do that you should have been told that that was a potential side effect. And yes - there are people who end up revising to RNY because of it.

I had the sleeve in June 2017, and these last few months the acid in my stomach is backing up into my windpipe and literally burns my esophagus until I can't breathe, I instinctively grabbed my inhaler and recovered but it keeps happening so I have watch anything I eat. They don't warn anyone that this can happen, at least not me. I'm still having to lighten up my food intake a lot, has anyone else had to deal with this? They are in the process of giving me an egd with Bravo, which is a camera and they are probably going to revise to the gastric bypass anyone else experiencing this? Hiya! I didn’t have a band but my original surgery was a plication several years ago. It was still newish where I lived. While it was in place, it was great, but after time the stitches came undone and I had to have the whole thing reversed ( like the whole thing, it was not safe to keep it). After a few years I decided to have a sleeve done. I had the same doc both times and he no longer does the plication. Not fully sure why, but I think he thinks it’s not reliable long term. When I was in hospital for my sleeve however ther was a woman who was operated on the same day as me by the same doc and she had a band to bypass revision.
