    Hair Loss

I take biotin. I know it's in the daily vitamins... but I just wanted to be extra careful! I was banded on 11/22/10 and I have thick hair. Nothing has changed yet. Good luck!!

    Any vegetarians also get sleeved?

I've been a pescetarian for about 25 years or so. I'm about 12 weeks post-op. The focus on Protein is a huge change for me. For my whole adult life, I made whole grains the base of every meal, surrounded by veggies and just a little protein. I had to admit to myself after all these years that it wasn't working for me - constant cravings and low satiety. I still don't believe in the high levels of protein that most adhere to (except during the post surgery healing phase) Which is good, because veg protein sources don't get you anywhere near 60g a day and I don't want to rely on shakes and bars now that I'm past the healing phase. I'm a total convert to the low carb camp for the duration of my weight loss phase. It really does reduce hunger and cravings. I haven't decided on a maintenance plan yet - I'll figure that out down the road. I've been eating 3 meals a day comprised of 3 oz of protein (fish, hard cheese, eggs, nuts, beans) and 1 oz of veggies plus fats (olive, coconut, butter, avocado), Sometimes, I'll add a Protein Bar, but not everyday. The weight is coming off at a nice steady pace. I don't know if I am on the right track or not - all seems well for now and I'm open to experimenting down the road.

    tight band and nutrition help

Yep, unfill. You will become seriously depleted on such an inadequate intake and it will probably affect your weight loss too. You wont recover properly after exercise, meaning you wont build and maintain muscle.

    Hunger hit

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes. After surgery, the Weight Loss phase is very short. I transitioned into the Maintenance phase at around 7 months. So you need to adhere to the program requirements that you were given in order to maximize your weight loss.

    New Goal Setting for Summer

Hi Sleeve. sorry to hear about your loss, but when the time is right, I'm sure you'll have a beautiful healthy baby. I've just started my sleeve journey, so I would like to be able to lose 40 - 50 pounds by July 5th, my birthday. I plan on doing this by: 1. Walking at least 5 miles everyday 2. Sticking to my high Protein (60-80 grams per day) and low carb diet 3. Drinking at least 8 glasses of Water

    New Goal Setting for Summer

Sleeve - first let me say I am sorry for your loss. You have a great attitude and you are right, it will happen. My husband's birthday is July 26th. By that date I would like to be down 12 1/2 lbs (I have 25 to lose to get to goal). To accomplish this: I will - 1) train for a 5K - signed up for a couch to 5 K class that starts this Thursday. 2) work with a personal trainer (signed up for 5 weeks of training) 3) continue to follow my current eating regimen of 70+ g Protein, 60+ oz of Water, calories in the 800-1000 range AND 4) take a Strong Woman class (10 weeks) This is SO do-able for us!!
  10. I can't believe that I'm 13 weeks and I can actually shop in the regular size stores and do not have to find the plus size! I feel really good about my weight loss right now and am looking forward to the next couple months cause I will be going to Puerto Rico on July 4th and that's when I will post my first pic!

    Stalled

look up 3 week stall it is very common... I myself stalled for 7 weeks at 6 months out. Just keep following your doctors recommendations and contact your nutritionist. Your body may have gone into starvation mode stopping the weight loss. You may have to try getting in some liquid calories to let your body know everything will be alright. Good Luck!

    Hair fall

My hair guy ordered Revita for me. It has helped a lot and regenerates the hair follicle. Are you getting enough protein? This can cause some of it but most all of us go through this. I was telling my hair guy about this possibly happening and he said he had been to a seminar about this shampoo and said it was very impressive. He has given it to some of his clients with hair pattern baldness and it did regrow hair for them. Your hair will grow back without this but it just helps it to regenerate a little quicker. I honestly only had 1 day where I had a hand full of hair and started the shampoo and it has been very minimal since. You can order it on amazon and it is a little pricey but it works. I ordered the conditioner with it. Hope this helps.
  13. Thank you for this info. I am 5 weeks post opp and it feels as if I have no restriction at all. I lost weight on my pre-opp diet but it has now stopped. I will have my first infill next wednesday. Looking forward to getting going with my weight loss. Have eaten to much today. need some support here. This is my first post on this forum. Hope to use this frequently.

    Hair Loss

I haven’t been banded yet but the nutritionist says that lack of protein will cause hair loss. Atkins makes some great protein drinks she says I should be drinking one daily once banded. 15grams or more protein and 5 grams or less of carbohydrates (it also has 20% biotin) Got it at Wal-Mart for $6.97. Hope this helps.

    Newly Sleeved!

Welcome @helladoll. That is a hell of a weight loss in 6 days! I hope you continue to heal well and the pain subsides quickly. Keep trying to get that Protein in. I was sleeved a week ago tonight. So far so good except for some incision pain when I rise from sitting or lying down. I walked for about 15-30 minutes tonight, the first day it was not 100 degrees outside and I got tired quickly. Just taking it day by day.
  17. I had a 5 week follow up appointment with my surgeon (with whom I've had a generally great experience) on Wednesday. I lost 10 lbs on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet, and 15 more lbs since surgery. Granted, I've been a bit surprised that I haven't lost more, given my size, but I'm not unhappy with the loss (especially if slow and steady loss gives me a better chance at not having to have plastic surgery). However, when my surgeon pulled up my chart on his computer, his comment was "Here's the line that shows your weight loss. That line still has a long way to go." Yet there was no mention of anything else I could try to get the weight to come off faster. Needless to say, it was a bit deflating to have what I clearly know and see all day everyday reiterated, when I'm following my post-op instructions faithfully and have very little control over how quickly or slowly the weight comes off. I wish I would lose a bit faster, but it seems my body has it's own timeline in mind. Sigh.
  18. Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I went to see my dietician last weeks for my 6 weeks post-op check-up. She said that I am doing great with my excerise and vit/minerals, but my weight loss could be more. She said it's due to the fact that I'm not eating enough (go figure). She has now increased my calories to 800/day. On a good day, I'm lucky if I can get 600 calories in (that includes drinking 2 Isopure Protein drinks). Some days I have no appetite and it's very difficult for me to eat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Katie

    B12?

B-12 shots for me, for sure! I found Nature's Plus Source of Life Liquid Gold multivitamin when I could not tolerate the Bariatric Advantage multivitamin. A compound pharmacist recommended it. I wrote down and compared every ingredient in each vitamin, and the liquid won. I wanted the best vitamins I could find, to keep myself healthy. I even like the taste. Don't forget the Biotin, for your hair. Good luck!

  22. Hey Everyone, Just needing to get thoughts out there. I'm a revision from band to sleeve. I've had my band removed and hopefully I will have sleeve surgery this summer. I'm going through all the motions for insurance approval. The time between is giving me alot of time to think. I'm excited for the chance to finally lose weight successfully. I'm excited that maybe for the first time in my life I may possibly fit in "normal" size clothes. I'm excited that maybe....just maybe....with the weight loss I can maybe have children. I'm excited for the opportunity to not ache, not tucker out so darn easy, and just feel good for once. And I'm also scared.... I'm scared of failing. I felt like a failure with my lap-band (even though I did have issues with it, even my surgeon said he won't even put them in anymore because of the complications many lap-band patients have), but I can't help but be scared of failure because I've failed so many times with trying to lose weight. I'm nervous too... I've never been "normal". I was a 10 pound baby...so I've been fat since birth. I have no clue what it's like to be what you would call normal. I don't want to say thin because I don't desire to be thin, I just want to be at a healthy weight....and I have no idea how that feels. I was a fat baby, kid, teen, and now adult. I have no real idea what life will be like. I know it will have to be better than how I feel/look now, but the unknown is scary. Thankfully my husband is very supportive, but I get nervous that he won't want to be with me anymore if I do lose alot of weight. He assures me that he doesn't care what size I am because he's in love with me, not my body (smart man...lol) but I can't help but have these fears since we began out relationship with me being the fluffy gal that I am. Sorry for the long post....there's alot rolling around in my brain. I know that surgery is the best option for me, my doctors have been very encouraging, My mind just like to run emotional marathons....too bad my body hasn't. haha. Reading through the forum has always been helpful and encouraging. Anyways...thanks for listening to my ramblings.

    Carb cravings

You guys who aren't eating your Protein post-op -- it's not just food ... it's medicine for your body. It is not optional. Seriously, getting up to 60+ grams of protein as soon as you can is critical to your recovery from surgery (the body needs that protein to heal) and to your weight loss and, eventually, your long-term maintenance. Also, eating too little post-op, especially too little protein, won't help you lose more weight. It will just delay your recovery and make you crave and eat carbs to try to give yourself some energy. And if you go that route, you will risk the benefits you can reap from weight loss surgery. Best wishes to all the newbies. And please follow your surgeon's instructions.

    starting again

Hi I had my band emptied and put 2 stone on , comfort eating after the loss of my nan , in a lot of ways I regret it but felt I needed a break so my advice is think carefully about it carefully . I never had after care support from my hospital , or the support group I new I would need after surgery which I was told they had . I have now found the hospital group have a clinic 30 mins from me now so have bought a six month package , I now feel I have support really for the first time . At the start of my journey I bought books read up and went on this forum but like you don't find so many people on here now , I'm in England too so find most were from America where perhaps things are done different . I really am starting again with the 20 , 20 20 rule etc , here is hoping this time I reach my goal and beat my food demons ! Good luck
