If my two cents is worth anything, I would say definitely continue with the therapy. Then maybe try writing your non-scale victories (NSV) in a notebook. Maybe as you see the list of NSV's increase it will help you recognize the benefits of the surgery from the health and lifestyle aspect. " Keep the faith, for this too shall pass"

    Chronicles of Cloe!!!!!

Hi everyone!! Yoda...............Hmmmmmmmmmm, wellllll yaaaaaa your forgiven:) !! Astrotoes, our breed of sheep are called Rideau-Arcotts, they are known for having mutiple lambs and out-of-season breeding.:huggie: Green, I swear, my husband never goes near the computer. But he walked past and saw the words exotic stuff and he's like, whoa, whats that about. I'm like it says exotic, not erotic stuff!!! So now he's saying, Oooooo ask her where the REALLY GOOD shops are. You may have to PM me with that info. God, I'm so sorry!!:nervous Anyway, thank you for the info. I'm making a promise to myself to come up from underground. I say that every year, then I get to scared. I'm afraid of freaks or maybe I'll get shot, I dunno. But I'm going to make myself go walk around. Thanks again!!! :update: .......Okay, had to go to the docter today for a physical. She was totally impressed with my weight-loss. I think that is the first time ever, I didnt dread getting on their scale. But, 2 new NSV's -my blood pressure went from 147/94 to 125/73!!!! Woo Hoo!!! -my doc cut my asthma medication from 250 mg to 125 mg!!! Woo Hoo!!!

    sweet spot and NSV

Awesome! Congrats! Riding amusement park rides with my son, shopping for clothes in a "regular" store, and not hiding from cameras are all on my list of reasons for having the surgery. That's THREE NSVs!!! Great job rockin that band!
  5. I think we all go through periods of feeling like it is not coming off as quickly as we would like. However, the important thing is that the weight is coming off. I was banded on 3/15/2012 and have lost 47, but that is 47 that I would not have lost without the help of my band. I have had tons of NSVs to make up for the scale not moving as quickly as I would like. More importantly, I am exercising and eating better, which is something I wasn't doing before. The clothing sizes dropping are the biggest thrill! When I first met with my wls doctor, I told him it wasn't about how many pounds that I wanted to lose, but I wanted to be healthier and be in "normal" clothing sizes. I have made both of those goals, so although I may have a lot of pounds to go, I know that I have been successful at my own pace. Try not to compare yourself to other's weight loss. It is an individual journey, we all have different lifestyles, body frames, stress levels, and hereditary factors that will affect how quickly we lose. In addition, depending on how much you have to lose also makes an impact on the speed of loss. Any weight loss is better than none! Go see if you can pick up 3 ten pound bags of dog food or 33 bags of sugar. It gives you a different perspective
  6. I went to my surgery support group that we have every other week with some ladies from my Options class. When my friend opened the door she looked at me and said "oh my gosh, where's the rest of you?!" Totally made my day!
  7. So, over the last three months, it's seemed like I was just stuck. I've barely lost 10 pounds, although I did drop 3 sizes. In that time, I've added in more and more exercise, really watched what I was eating and been pushing more Water. I've really looked hard for the NSVs and tried not to worry that my body was done. But, I was really getting frustrated because the weight loss had slowed down so much. I was so close to the 100 pounds lost mark and starting to think I'd never get there. In my head, I knew that this was a weight where I spent nearly 10 years on the way UP the scale and that I shouldn't get excited that it was taking me a while to drop below that point, but boy was it maddening! I'm happy to report that in the last few days, that stall has broken! I've lost 5 pounds in the last few days and it seems like my body and sleeve are cooperating again to drop more pounds! I'm also suddenly seeing more definition in areas that have been of particular interest to me (waist, collarbones, arms and legs). I don't know if my mindset changed, but I know that I have increased my exercise levels to where I'm doing nearly an hour of cardio per day, in 2 30 minute sessions, and I've been fairly strict on my carbs. So, YAY, the stall is broken!!! I'll take the NSVs, but it feels good to see that scale number dropping again, too.

    Questions to ask Surgeon

Bonnielass, I did just what Tiff explained and my surgeon was really pleased to know that I was actually asking those questions. . .he was right in there like a dirty shirt! He was honest about it, especially when I asked how successful he has been as a surgeon with the sleeve procedure. . . he said, "it's a fairly new procedure, I have done more bands, and only about 200 sleeves, but I have never had a leak" So that was comforting, he also told me that I would be in hospital overnight for sure, get a leak test done, and if there was one he would do an oversew to correct it. . . he told me I didn't need a preop diet cause my BMI wasn't high enough! Talk about a NSV!!! I told him i would rather do a pre-op diet however, he must of thought I was nuts, but he said, sure that will make my job alot easier! he was so pleasant and courteous. I had a good feeling with him too. . . so I trust him. . even though I know that I'm just another dollar sign walking around! hehehehe

    Any Pre-OP NSV's

NSV is short for Non-Scale Victory... anything weight loss related that does not relate to numbers on a scale.

    obsession

I do try to not get on the scale multiple times during the day (its hard but I try) because I know that it fluctuates several times during the day. I usually weight first thing in the morning. After I have used the restroom and before I climb into the shower. I want to be at my lightest for the day. I have had NSV I'm wearing my wedding band for the first time in years (got too small). My feet no longer fit in my dress shoes. I'm wearing 2 pant sizes smaller and nothing is tight on me. I managed to chaperone a lockin with the music department with of my daughters school. At a pizza place and only ate the cheese off the top of a piece of pizza around midnight to keep my energy up. While I walked the arcade for 8 hours helping keep 300 kids in line last weekend. Never could have done that 58lbs ago. I am grateful to have be on this journey. Am I perfect no but I'm better. I just love that I can be not perfect for a change and still see the scale more. The most frustrating thing for me and diets is when I'm perfectly eating exactly what I'm supposed to and busting my butt working out and not seeing the scale move. So, yeah so watching it move is entertaining to me :-D

    Flying Tomorrow....

I fly about twice a year and usually had to ask for a seat belt extender. One of my favorite NSV was when, in March, I flew to Illinois to see my sister and nephew and I did NOT need an extender!! I am flying to DC next month on a different airline (so possibly a different make of plane) and I am looking forward to seeing how I fit in the seat! Good luck everyone!

3/25/09 Get Your Head In The Game

Not to be a buzz kill, but head hunger happens even after banding. You're right though, my choices in "cheating" have changed. I know I can't have some of DH's sub sandwich because dense bread and my stoma don't play well together, so I steal just the meat! LOL! Sure, some of my choices are just plain bad, but I can't pig-out-binge until the whole bag of cookies is gone anymore. Does such naughtiness slow down my weight loss? Yes. Does it kill it? Not so far. Yes, I'm a paranoid Scale Whore and will be for many years to come, but the NSV's keep me pretty much on the path to healthy weight and well-being. Speaking of which, Time for me to go ride my exercise bike! I'm stiff and sore from running up and down the steps of the theatre last night. Me! Running! It's a miracle!

    NSV's :)

I have a few from the last couple of weeks, that I'm just gonna put together The first one is that I found my class ring about a week and a half ago, and it fits. I graduated in 99, and quit wearing the ring a few years later when it was more comfortable on my pinky. Now it fits, and there's even just the slightest amount of extra room. I'm always adjusting it because it goes crooked, but I'm ok with that . I didn't even realize that this was an NSV until like 3 days later, lol. The 2nd one is that I bought 2 pairs of jeans the other night. One of them was size 16 from the plus size section (everything in that section is stretch. I used to be glad, but now it irritates me). The other pair of pants is size 17, non-stretch from the Juniors Department! The 17's are actually tighter than the 16s, but I was just happy to get something from the juniors department at all, lol. And THEN! Last night I took a bath. I hadn't actually taken a bath in a while (still shower tho ), and it occured to me that I could sit in the bath and not be touching EITHER SIDE of the tub with my body! Yay! I've been through some frustrating times, and some times where I just resigned myself to the idea that I'd lost some weight, but I was always going to be bigger than average, but at least I'd stay healthy... but I'm getting back into the groove where I feel like this is going to work for me again, and I'm working it right as well.

    NSV's :)

Great Nsv's. this is exactly what I mean when I say " do not let the numbers on the sclae dictate your success or failures with the band, think of all of the possitive things that you have accomplished since being banded

    Amazing NSV !

I am in complete shock and disbelief! This morning I headed to the track for my ususal exercise - walk and jog a total of 2 or 3 miles. Lately I've been jogging one lap non-stop then walking with a little bit of jogging mixed in when I felt I could do it. Well, this morning when I got to the track I started jogging right off the bat. I was just finishing my lap and I decided to keep going, next lap same thing, then again and again. In total I jogged 1 mile (4 laps) non-stop!!! Then I continued to walk another 2 & 1/2 miles. Never in my life have I jogged a mile! I feel amazing knowing that I am getting stronger; my heart is stronger, my lungs are stronger, my muscles are stronger, and my determination and belief in myself is stronger than ever! I can't believe I did it! And I can't wait to do it again tomorrow!

    My Latest NSV

Great NSV! I have been getting embarassed when we eat out cause I get full on about 2 bites. Then I have the whole meal to take home. I know I shouldn't be embarassed, but I am. Good for you for ordering off the kids menu!! I think I need to either try this or eating off of everyone else's plates, like someone on here mentioned. I just hate going out to eat now!
