Feeling discoraged july sleever
RyanSleeve2014 replied to cchapman6's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today was "Weigh-In Wednesday" (that's what I call my weekly weigh in) and, just like clockwork, 3 WEEK STALL!!! Literally exact same weight as last week (344.2). I planned for this so I am going to do measurements and photos later to remind myself of the NSVs, but man, it really is disheartening. I know it will pass, but it's the first break in momentum post surgery, so it's a little bit of a reality check. I a, so thankful this board is here to have warned me about it!! I would probably be losing my MIND right now if I wasn't prepared!!! -
Congrats, great NSV! I don't think it's crazy at all to make a big deal about it (because it is a big deal), it's these crazy NSV's that help us get our confidence back and feel good about what we have accomplished. I can feel mine when I'm laying down, but I can't see them yet.........I'll be sooo excited when I can!

TheWomanWithin replied to JLPAGE's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you guys, what awesome NSV's - keeps us pre and newly banded with hope to have those soon :second: -
The other day I hopped in the cruizer and grabbed my seatbelt and put it on , about half a mile from the house it hit me - I was not using my seatbelt extention. It was on the passanger seat where I sat last night!!! It just hit me that I was not being choked and I had room to move around and stuff...Totally amazing:clap2:

JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP
GingerSlim replied to SMED0308's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I survived my first dinner in a restaurant. Only ate the grilled chicken out of the taco. Did not eat the flour tortilla or the cilantro & cabbage that were also inside. I cut it up into the tiniest pieces ever. ( I think the waitress thought I was nuts). The only thing that bothered me was that I never got to even take a sip of my water ( damn half hour rule!) The "old me" would have been bothered by the massive amounts of wings & beer that surrounded me. Or the plate of "loaded tater tots" that the couple next to us had. But instead, this Sleevie Wonder was bothered by not being able to drink water when she wanted to. Should we chalk it up to a first NSV??? -

@@charley27They can come at any time! That's the beauty of NSV's! Your scale may be acting stubborn for a few days or even a week and you find yourself getting down over it, then the lovely little Non Scale Victories pop up and make everything right in the world again! Some unexpected NSVs have me LOLing in public. You?
Yasman replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
ok, now that I know an NSV is a non-scale victory, I have one to share. Fitting comfortably with room to spare in a booth at a restaurant when the last time you went you were (your belly was) hanging over the table, all squeezed in. Separately but the same, being able to swing up and out of the booth easily and smoothly, rather than huffing your way through a 3 step process to get out. -

Proud grammy, I just had the exact same thing happen to me just this morning ! Weird !!! Another person parked their car too close to mine at the Y, I had to move my mirror in to get to my door. I slid right through this small space like it was nothing ! I got a swim workout AND a NSV , not a bad way to start my day !! Woot! Woot !! -
The pain is almost completely gone. I'm thinking it was the 4WDing in waipio valley yesterday am. It was a rough ride & felt like it was gonna beat me to death! Notime-congrats on your NSV! Gaining back some independence was one of my goals as well. I hate asking for help! Lol

Hello all! August is going by fast! So far my fill is holding up great, I just keep pushing on back my apointment further and further. Why mess with a good thing? Though the other day I thought it would be ok if I had a couple bites of a roll before dinner. Not ok. Those things don't go through. No more bread before dinner for me. Today is my first wedding anniversary! How exciting is that? I'm surprised its already been a whole year for one thing. We went to the resturant where we had our reception. Soon we will be seeing how their cheesecake defrosts. I haven't been weighing myself so much lately. Partly because I forget. And partly because I am focusing on NSVs right now. I think my body shape is changing more than my weight is. I know I am getting some loose skin! My wing span has gotten bigger! These arms will be weapons soon enough if I learn how to utilize their momentum. Also the belly and boobs are finding gravity more and more irrestible every day. Gravity used to be my favourite force. I just might have to rethink that (I started out as an engineering physics major back in the day-- of course I have a favourite force. Did everyone hear about how they are reversing that force that geckos use to actually levitate small things? Far out. I need to talk to the real physicistics I know about that.). I might be investing in some spanx soon. I'm going shopping in a posh mall up in the suburbs in a couple of days. The Lane Bryant by me closed unexpectedly. I need a new bra, I think I now might wear a 38DD, but I have no idea where to shop. The Catherines where I am at has really big sizes typically and really ugly stuff, and fashion bug doesn't have much in the way of undies. Also I tried on some old jeans I had, not expecting them to go around my hips all the way let alone fasten. But fasten they did. I could even breath, though there was serious muffin top and some camel toe invovled. The jeans were even a size 16T. That means no W after them, meaning no Women's, no plus sizes, just extended sizes, like in misses. I could tell that once they do fit they will fit me better than my current plus size garments. I remember that back in the day I couldn't wear plus size because of how those were cut. The waists on those were always way too big and the butts on plus sizes always were too large for me as well. Strange as it may sound, my butt isn't that big. I have pretty big hips, and proportion wise I'm a perfect hourglass, but the rear itself isn't as large as the cut allowed for and things would just hang wierd. I found trying to defeat the stairmaster by stepping on it was good, however, in that department. So I have no idea where to shop. Where on earth does one buy misses size clothes and Bras that aren't DDD? ITs been too long. I'd ask my friends, but they are too small to know. They are size 4. Yes, both of my good friends are tiny. One actually has a bit of a six pack-- she has a higher belt in tae kwon doe and wins marathons and stuff like that. She's a chemical engineer. The other is a natural blond who just got a promotion at work, speaks japanese, and always has at least one or two guys wanting to ask her out. But its ok. They can't help these things. And they used to be jealous that had proportionate curves (before gravity and weightloss caused the flab monster to take over), thick hair (its starting to grow back...), and a wonderful husband. Life can be ironic. So now I need to find stores to shop in. Stores that would have sizes like 16-20. Are there stores like that, do department stores have those sizes? One of my dreams is to go on What Not to Wear, as I am completely clueless about clothes and have Stacy and Clinton tell we what to wear and make it all better, but not until I'm done losing weight and so forth. I really find this all strange. Makeup and hair aren't so difficult. Those don't change so much as clothes, it seems to be that all the basics stay more or less the same, and the stuff is cheaper at least. Where as clothes, really good stuff at least, can be so expensive. And then every season a person is supposed to have this new wardrobe or something. Its all a bit much for me to comprehend. Sometimes I buy a magazine and look at it helplessly.

Had my 3 Mon Post Op Check up today and weighed in at 165 lbs. Dr said that I was way ahead of where I should be and if I continue burning calories at this rate I'll end up ay 120 at my 1 year check up. Of course I burst out .... "Oh hell naw, that's too too small". She agreed with me and moved be all the way to the last stage of the game. Added bread, Pasta, grains, tri tip.. pretty much no restrictions just not alcohol, sodas and unhealthy foods. She wants me to take my 1000+ calorie burn all the way down. Absolutely no more cardio... Only body building/sculpting. Focus all on muscle building. She also wants me to increase my calories from 700 to 1200 and try and eat until I feel stuffed. I was like... "Lady you don't have to tell an Ex fat person that twice... Don't mind if I do pig out." LOL Blood test were awesome... Just need to increase me Iron during my monthly cycle since um flowing pretty heavy now. So yes... This was a MAJOR NSV for me. My entire life I've had to watch everything I eat and feel and look fat. Now... I officially feel like a skinny person not having to worry about cardio, low cal diet and my clothes not fitting. Kinda excited about the body building process... Yahoo for me!

I was banded 8/25 too and am down 23 lbs, unfortunately I didn't measure before surgery so I don't know inches. I have my first fill tomorrow, and I've just started noticing I can eat alot more than I did last week, so it will be good to have a fill. I feel alot better since the surgery, not as sore and stiff, more energy, asthma is better, and walking more. Down 1 pants and 1 shirt size. One of the big NSV's is my belly isn't putting pressure on my lower ribs, so they aren't sore like they were before. The hard part is the mental, lots of issues that I've buried with eatting -- and they aren't much fun to deal with and resolve. But all in all I am happy with my progress, and while it's not easy. . . the band sure makes the weight loss doable.

Hi August Bandsters... Since it is October I thought we could check-in and see how everyone is doing....weight loss, inches loss, all the NSV's, fills, etc...... I will get us started... First of all, I feel like a new person... that's the best thing since being banded. I have lost 38 pounds since my pre-op diet, 27.5 inches are GONE, my NSV's are so numerous I will just mention a few: taking walks with my daughter, swimming again, clothes to big, walking up the stairs without feeling like I am going to die, bending over without feeling like I am going to puke, getting out of a chair without making ugly, groaning noises.... My first fill was last Monday....it was a breeze...he put in .5cc and I have restriction....yeah!!! So how is everyone else doing???

I just had to post this. I've been struggling the last couple of months. Seems I've been gaining & losing the same 6-10 pounds. Through this all, I've been going to the gym several times a week. 1. 2 weeks ago I ran into an intern who was returning to work after being away from our company since last (late) July. I was headed out of our office building and he was heading in. I said Hey--glad to see you're back, what's going on! He had a funny look on his face but he was unfailingly polite when we spoke. Cut to last night. He and I and a couple of others went out last night to have a couple of beers (beer, I know). He said, you know, when I saw you a couple of weeks ago, I simply didn't recognize you.. You look alot different. 2. I was told by two different people yesterday that I looked "thin" I told them it was because I had my shirt tucked in, was wearing a belt and had shoes with heels that made me around 6"tall. 3. Able to wear a size of 14 long jeans from American Eagle! The thin part isn't so true, but OMG what a wonderful thing to hear. Take that scale:)

Big hugs!!! Boy oh boy can I relate about the plane!! Ive traveled internationally since Jan 06 --Ive been overweight longer then this -- but from 2006 til 2008 I traveled alone so I was always seated next to strangers. International airlines arent always very nice about big people traveling. I always have to ask for a seat belt extender, Ive never been able to buckle one. It is so embarassing. I ask as soon as I get on the plane, as I am walking to my seat. Ive sat next to some pretty rude people, but I just apologized for crowding them. Thankfully in 2011 and this year I have had my girlfriend and 4yr old son to travel with me so usually its us 3 in a row together so the only people I am crowding dont mind. It still sucks so bad to crowd anyone, need a seat belt extender, and not be able to use my tray table I cant wait to have those nsv's! All this will be in the past very soon! Hang in there!!!

A couple of months ago I had a lane bryant credit card, shredded it and threw it away. I was so happy to be able to shop in the "normal" sizes. That has probably been my biggest NSV. I got a catalog from Lane Bryant in the mail the other day and put it right into the recycle can, didn't even open it! Congratulations to you!

Congratulations, Kathy...that's an awesome NSV!!! I can't wait until I'm in the same place. Emily

All I have to say is.........Goodbye Lane Bryant!!! :faint: WOW!!! I actually bought clothes this weekend at PacSun, Gap and Hot Topic!!!! I was so excited! I bought a size 13 at Hot Topic and a size 14 at the Gap...I could have died and gone to Heaven! :clap2: But the best surprise was going to a store like PacSun and trying on their clothes and they actually fit! I am so excited...just had to share! Now if I could just get more pounds to drop...I have been stuck at this same weight since 2nd week of April...:think . AAAGGGHHH! :help:
