Sleep study - CPAP machine
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to simplysmile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and also... cpap compliance after surgery is important because sleep apnea if untreated can prevent weight loss. So make sure when you get your cpap you use it! Best wishes. -
On average, how long after surgery does weight loss stop?
LouLouM posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello everyone. I am wondering, on average, when weight loss stopped after gastric sleeve surgery? Thank you. -
No bald patches, per se, but I had new growth on one upper temple, and nearly a bald other temple. Rest of head is covered fully, but so much thinner and drier. Still trying to figure out how to style to maximize the hair I have. Pre-op I had long, thick, shiny hair…but I gladly trade it for the weight loss! I didn’t get full protein/supplements till around two months post-op due to vomiting, so hopefully others will do better!

yes - buyer's remorse is common the first month or so. Many of us have been there. also - yep - many women mention their hormones being out of whack the first few weeks or months. In addition to weird moods, many often experience weird menstrual cycles. All that eventually stabilizes taste & appeal of food - many of us lose that for awhile. It's common to lose your sense of hunger for up to a year after surgery (a small minority never get it back it all - honestly, I wish I would have been one of them - it would be so much easier to lose & maintain my loss!). It's very weird at first, but you get used to it. My hunger came back at five months out, and things got much harder then. It is SO easy to lose weight when you're never hungry and couldn't give a flip about food. Take FULL advantage of that!! It'll never in your life be easier to lose weight than it is right now when you're not hungry and don't care about food!! Just make sure you're eating and drinking enough to maintain your health. So I know this sounds weird, so enjoy that "feature" while it lasts and milk it for all it's worth - because it your hunger and "food appeal" will almost certainly return at some point this year. drinking - you'll be able to drink a lot more as time goes on. I can drink normally again. But for now, just do whatever it takes to get the required amount of fluids in, even if that means sipping all day. Dehydration can land a lot of people back in the hospital...so keep at it!

Hello all, first post here… I had the sleeve done on 2/23 and I’m really struggling physically and emotionally. I’m not getting the protein or water intake like I should be because nothing is appealing to me. I’m sick of protein shakes, and nothing else tastes good to me. I’m on the puréed diet which I think can be moved to soft food but even that it just doesn’t appeal to me. As for water I am getting roughly 20-30oz a day by sipping which is really hard for me because I’m used to chugging 16 oz bottles at a time. Pre-surgery I was getting about a gallon a day. I feel thirsty all the time and I’m tired because of the lack of protein. I’m just at a loss and really regretting all of this and just want to cry all the time, on top of all this I just found out that my other half is leaving (military) for several months.

Question for those who have flat feet/pronation
River Moon replied to heck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I'm so excited for you as you move ahead in this journey. Like Arabesque said, if your arches are collapsed due to your weight, then you will probably see improvement. I used to have high arches, but now they have collapsed due to my weight over the years. After losing what I have, it has helped with foot pain and discomfort so much. I no longer have any pain, but if I've been walking all day (like at an amusement park), then they start to ache, but still nothing like they used to. Also, just about a month or so after my surgery, I started to feel a difference in my walking. I just felt lighter on my feet, so improvement began relatively quickly. Everyone is different, so the degree of improvement is per person, but losing the weight should improve your symptoms. Also, get some good walking shoes, if you don't already have some. My podiatrist recommended the New Balance brand, as they make great shoes for those with feet problems, including flat feet. I tend to wear the 600 or 900 series myself (which he recommended). Even after the weight loss, he said it's a good idea to wear the proper shoes for good support. Take care and good luck! 😊 -
I have got visible new hair growth now so don't worry it will come back

It’s ok to have doubts & fears. We’ve all had them in some way during this process. And don’t be afraid to ask questions here. We’ve either experienced the same thing or can offer support or encouragement. My question is would you really want to go back to eating the same way? It lead you, like it did all of us, to being overweight. Will you never eat some of your old food favourites again? Not necessarily. They may become occasional treats just not every day or every week choices. Or you discover alternatives like vegetable pastas, bun free burgers or grilled, steamed, air fried or poached foods versus deep fried. Your portion sizes will be smaller & not those portions that are 2,3 & 4 times a recommended serving size. Of course, there will be restrictions on your food choices to begin. Initially to support your healing, then to support your weight loss & also to support your reeducation about food, nutrients, portion size, your relationship with food, etc. There may be certain foods you struggle with in the long term. Some develop intolerances like to lactose. It’s not that common & there are so many not dairy options about these days you don’t really miss out on anything. There may be foods that don’t sit as well in your tummy but it’s very individual. I still find bread, pasta & rice too heavy & filling & char grilled meats are too dry & coarse. There may be foods you choose to avoid or reduce to maintain your weight in the future. I still enjoy food, the flavour, the texture, etc. I go out to restaurants. I socialise with friends & family. I just make better food choices. I don’t see food & eating as a source of comfort or an emotional support to make me feel better or less bored. Food is the nutrition my body needs to function & to give me the energy to do the things I enjoy doing. All the best. -
all weight loss surgerys are "bariatric surgery" I meant more specific... If you notice 0n my sidebar it says Gastric sleeve. That is the surgery i am getting. Then there is Gastric Bypass, Mini bypass, Lap band and a few other minor ones. your info can be edited in your profile section under surgery.

Question for those who have flat feet/pronation
heck posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I am about a month before surgery, and I am curious about how the weight loss has affected those who have collapsed arches / flat feet / those who wear orthotics in their shoes? Right now that is my biggest pain, so I'd love to know if it improved with the weight loss, and if so, roughly how long it took to improve the pain in feet and knees. Thanks! -

I was told to use two forms of protection for the first year post-op because rapid weight loss can make you SUPER fertile. My program wants folks to not get pregnant for the first 2 years post-op. -

It’s 4 weeks post surgery for me and I am still having problems meeting my water and protein daily requirements. I feel like my weight loss is slow. I also feel like I’m not in a good place mentally sometimes. I have to keep reminding myself that my body IS a machine that I have to keep running well. If I don’t eat & drink as I should, I will feel all sorts of lethargy and negativity which in turn makes it more difficult to exercise and move. I’m very grateful that I have a wonderful medical support team whom I’m meeting monthly (used to be weekly) but sometimes it’s hard getting out of my head. -

You just learned that you can ask for help, and it’s a strength. Your wife sounds like a good help too. I read “Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies “ to get started with all the lingo and comparisons of surgeries. Online YouTube videos are great too. It looks like we’re neighbors too. I’m in Quincy. Which program did you get referred to? -

Coop, this is a safe space! We're all in the same boat as you or were where you are now. Sure it's easier for some than others, but you can do this. We're here for you! We will help you as much as we can. That's what this community is all about, supporting each other. Sure eating after weight loss surgery is an adjustment, but you adjust. A lot of people say that your taste changes after surgery and you don't even enjoy the foods that you used to. As the weight starts coming off, and your clothes fit better, you realize that you've broke free from the grip that food had on you. I actually miss the restriction that my Lap Band gave me. I'm currently waiting for revision surgery. I had a Lap Band for about 8 years and had it removed last year and now almost ready to get a surgery date for gastric bypass. Best wishes to you Coop! You got this! 💪 -

You can do this. Your frustration with your current situation will propel you forward! Your provider will take your medical history into account and suggest which surgery is best for you, or they might tell you any of them will work for you and let you choose. So for now just familiarize yourself with the surgeries available. Whether or not weight loss surgery is more invasive than a hip transplant? I can't really say. I think most weight loss surgery nowadays are done robotically, so the recovery is easier because robotic surgery is more precise and there's less tissue disturbed, unlike open surgeries. Along with TAP blocks and other modern techniques, pain is much better managed now than probably even ten years ago. And yes, I think all of us on this site can relate to you, it's the same reason we all began our journeys. Best wishes to you! -

you wont eat the same way again as in large portions... but once you are healed up and recovered you will be able to go out to eat, Eat some of the stuff you did before just smaller portions. Go on youtube and watch videos of peoples journey's through weight loss surgery. Many have videos from before, during and after surgery and even years after surgery and what they are eating and such. There are probably a hundred or so videos. Its great to see how other people do. Also make sure you fill out your sidebar with your stats and surgery you are planning on getting. It helps a ton with answering questions. you can do this in your profile tab -

Someone asked me in this post what surgery will i be getting and honestly i have no idea as i mentioned my PCP put in the consult a few days ago thats about all i know at this point , i have a virtual interview April 1st. My wife as a matter of fact had gastric bypass 17 years ago and she tries to help me with what i could possibly be up against but it has been so long she does not want to mislead me or give me wrong information , anyway i am pretty scared because even though i have had both my hips replaced about 10 years ago i was told this surgery is more invasive i honestly do not know who to believe , i just know that i am uncomfortable in my clothes and if they fit they are extremely tight ( by the way i am 284 lbs and i am 5'7 } i am so obsessed with losing weight that i take all the weight loss pills and they do not work , i go on the cleanse juices, they do not work, i can not work out because i have a bad back, i am at my wits end it is so frustrating being heavy i am so self conscious of my weight i try on my clothes all the time, i apologize for rambling i am so tired of living like this , can anyone relate , thank you for listening , it helps. I have a lot of fine, long hair. I didn’t think I had hair loss, but my hairdresser noticed and cut it into a bob for awhile. No bald patches or anything anyone else noticed. Good luck!

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
SummerTimeGirl replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
UPDATE: Just wanted to give ANOTHER quick update to my situation. LOL So as you may know I met with my dietician on March 3rd and we discussed my food logs and exercise and how it appeared I was doing everything right. Also told her that the only new different thing that happened back when my stall started was the fact that I halved my Metformin. She didn't seem to think that was the issue. But for sh*ts and giggles I started myself back on my old dose the next day. So guess what, on March 4th I weight in at 243.2. But then two days ago I weighed in at 235.4!!!! Pretty much an 8lb loss in only 12 days!!! Coincidence or what? I did NOTHING else new or different. All I know is that the scale has NOT moved like that in like 5 months!!! I also had my doc appointment today and we discussed what happened and he said if I feel like it's helping my weight move again then to stay on it. Otherwise, if I stall again, we can then discuss some other medicinal options to possibly help me start losing again. Overall he is happy with my progress and tells me to just keep doing what I've been doing. I HOPE the Metformin was the issue all along but I'm not getting too happy just yet. I'll keep updating periodically. -

There are many, many people on here who keep there weight loss surgery a secret. That way you get less negative comments. I told my husband and son. Its no one else's business. You can't unsay it now so you need to just smile and say the statistics are in my corner this time, even if you , my brother are not. Be strong, you got this and us on here. PS. I always know what to say, 10 minutes after I need it -

Time to assertively tell these people that your weight loss, weight or any related dietary/food intake is no longer up for discussion. If they continue to bring up these matters, restate your position and change the subject. -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hey, me too. My surgeon just explained to me today that he creates a 32 French bougie, which is nice and small. We are so lucky! I can lose up to 75% of my excess weight. Some surgeons make the pouch too big, so weight loss is much slower.
