***bunny bandsters april 09 master thread #2 ***
Band_Groupie replied to lingling's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Way to go JT! Your first NSV!!! You described Bandster Hell to a 't'. Remember that many gain weight during this period and many more stay the same. If you can lose, even slowly, before the first couple of fills gives you restriction, then your doing better than most as it's all up to you at this point. Remember, we're not RNY patients...it takes several fills before the band really begins to help us at all. Hang in there...we'll all be twiddling our thumbs impatiently together! -
Good Morning Y'all! It is beautiful here this morning, I just finished my walk and it was really nice. I did get to go riding this weekend, and I had a good time. I also went to the neighbors for dinner Saturday night. After I passed on DB invite, the next door neighbors called and DH accepted the invitation. Needless to say I didn't stick to the rules very close! My eating went fine, it was the extra drinks I had that killed me. Oh well, I guess I am just living normal huh? I did still drop two pounds so I guess I won't bi*ch too much! Weekends kill me! Karla - Yes, it was in the 80's this weekend, and very nice. I hope you are resting, get healed up and don't do more than you should even if you feel like it. It sounds like you are doing great! Pat - I too would like to hear about the she-crab! I haven't heard that one before either. I am finding out that I have to try on everything lately that I buy. The sizing is the worst I have ever seen, each brand seems to fit differently! UGH! Eileen - I agree with the gas/heating bills, there is absolutely no reason for this to be happening. The last I heard anything here is that Gov. Perry made a deal with TXU to only (yeah like that is low) raise it 20% now and wait to raise the other in April. Well, that is just in time for the air conditioning to start getting used a lot here. Anyone can take a look at the profits those companies are making and know we are getting took. I shouldn't even get started on this subject, it really makes me mad! I know what you mean about companies giving you something like a picnic. Hey, give me the money and forget the picnic! Enjoy your hamburger, at least you can eat one now before the surgery. I think that is great that you get 4-6 weeks off! You'll be thinner before you go back too! Beanie - I can't believe how hard it is to plant things here because of the ground. Heck, the digging alone wears you out. Each time you take a shovel full of dirt you have to pry it off the shovel. And, that isn't counting how hard it is to get that shovel into the ground to start with. I can tell you that after you get the band and lose some of the weight, it will be easier to work out there though. I couldn't believe this spring how much easier it was for me, pulling weeds and planting. I hope you sat in a hot bath and felt better, although I think the massage sounds better yet! Give that insurance company a call bright and early this morning, make them give you an answer! Cindy - Whoooo Hooooo! I know you are excited. It feels so good when you break a milestone like that! You are doing great! :banana :banana Great NSV on the new size pants too! Now, do something special for yourself today!

I had my first post-op appointment since surgery last Friday, and it could not have gone better. 1) As of my pre-op weigh-in on 1/10, I'm down 14 pounds. 2) My incisions are healing perfectly, and I can remove the steri-strips on Monday. 3) I was given my "restaurant card" to use when I finally venture out to eat. 4) I am sloooooowly becoming able to get in more liquids, and even the Protein shake I gagged on when I tried to drink it on Sunday, I'm now able to tolerate. 5) The horrible alien gurgling sounds in my chest/throat that have plagued me for the past 3 days are quieting down somewhat. 6) Best of all, I've graduated to puréed foods for the next 2 weeks! My first experiment: instant mashed potatoes with ICBINB spray. HEAVENLY! 7) Oh, and I did two workout videos today (Walk Away the Pounds), for a total of 5 miles. I feel absolutely wonderful! This is the best decision I've made in my life. For those of you who are struggling in the early days: be patient, because every day gets better. Every day I wake up, I have more energy and more desire to see this through. I am so thankful and grateful that I came through this with no major complications.

@, I think you are doing great! Keep up the good work. Work clothes, especially uniforms, tend to run really small for my husband. Your street clothes are going to be a better NSV for you. Also, I want to say that I always enjoy your posts. You have a great sense of humor and positive attitude. I know you are going to do great! -

@@cornhusker, your weight loss is fantastic! But no more sleep apnea?! That's the motherload of NSV's!! I'm hoping to get off the cpap this year too. Great job! -
My doc also says there may be periods of time where your weight loss stalls while your body adjusts, and be patient. My WL stalled for about six months, staying right at the same weight, then dropped considerably. Now it's stalled again, but I've noticed the NSV's are increasing. I stopped worrying about what the scale said and went on living. So what if I only lose 5 lbs a month? I'm still losing and my skin has a chance to snap back without my looking like a kid in Mommy's skin. LOL!

So I was able to make my old saddle work by adding a seat shrinker pad. It was actually quite comfy. But now my butt has shrunk so much that even that is too big. So I splurged on a new (used) saddle this week! I've always ridden western until my last saddle which was an aussie with a horn. SO comfy! I will never ride anything but an aussie again. So in my search for one that fit both me and my horse, the winner was a Muster Master from Australian Stock Saddle Company. It is a crossover saddle, which basically means it fits and looks like an aussie, but takes a regular western cinch and has a western fleece bottom instead of the aussie serge panels. The other thing is this one doesn't have a horn. This will definitely take some getting used to and some creative rigging options, because I mostly use the horn to dally my lead rope, hook my drink holder onto, and drape my head stall and reins on when trailering. First ride is tomorrow....can't wait!

Over the weekend I made baked goods to give away as gifts. In total I made 30 dozen Cookies, 20 mini lemon pound cakes, 7 dozen chocolate nut clusters, and 2 trays of peppermint bark. I was proud of myself because I only ate 2 cookies. never really I would have eaten soooo many more. It felt really good to have control over my sweet tooth right now! I feel like my mentality about eating better is one that will help me have life long success this time! I'm excited for the future! HW (10/31/15): 540 SW (5/29/16): 480 CW (12/21/16): 341 I'm so close to 200 pounds down!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! What a wonderful NSV and in such a beautiful place! I love Tahoe.

Like most women, I have a range of sizes taking up space in the closet. Today I started going through clothes I haven't been able to wear in years. I was amazed at how many of them fit! Some of them I am sad to say I've nearly missed out on because they are basically already too big on me. Even my smallest clothes are oh so close to being publicly wearable. I can't believe it! When I look at myself in the mirror I can't really see much of a difference, but fitting into these clothes made it real to me. I really am losing this weight! I want to jump up and down!

Don't give up on it yet!! If you read through other posts I've put out here, you'll see I've struggled with losing weight at the same pace as the others on here. I started at 304 and have lost only about 45 pounds since December. It's slow, far slower than when I did Weight Watchers...but this time is the last time! I'm finally at a place on the scale that I haven't seen since 1996. Remember that you don't want to start working out for longer than you can maintain through the rest of your life.....I, too, was doing an hour and a half a day and wasn't losing weight. (I do gain muscle mass easily...) With that said, I met with my nutritionist and she told me to 1) increase my Protein and Water intake and 2) workout LESS!!! I'm now doing about 45 minutes a day, sometimes a little less, depending on my week. I lost inches and went from a size 22 to a snug 18 in my first 3 months, only losing about 15-20 pounds. Then, the scale started to finally work with me.... Remember that without the band tightened, you are doing this on your own. Give yourself time and keep at it. Watch the negative self talk. You didn't eat this on overnight, and it certainly won't fall off over night. Celebrate the NSV's (the non-scale victories) You'll get there if you're willing to put in the time. It's clear that you're willing to put in the energy. Don't give up and keep in touch with people on here. They've been a tremendous influence on keeping me on track. We all lose at our own pace.....but, if when all is said and done, I get down under 200, I don't care if it takes me 4 years to lose all the weight!!! Good luck. Be well.

:thumbup:Hey Everyone! I know it's a little early to be tooting my own horn, but I just had to share my excitment! Yesterday, my boyfriend told me,"You know, your skin is already clearing up!" and he is right!!!! I have been fighting acne due to my PCOS for YEARS, and now all of a sudden the condition has improved in the most amazing way! My skin is soft and smoothe without being too dry OR oily! I don't know if it is the pre-op diet that did it, or the surgery begining it's miracle working already, but I am psyched!

Non scale victory=nsv Congrats!

Thank you @Jeanne. I will. Today I’m better emotionally. I was just completely overwhelmed yesterday that the scale didn’t move again. It’s been a few weeks with no change. I’m trying to focus on NSV as someone told me yesterday. It’s been hard but I’m determined to stay positive and see it through.

Did the band make you re-evaluate your life not only with weight loss but everything? What have you done about it?
PrettyThick1 replied to EmilyMikulec's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This journey is as much psychological as it is physical. To have moments of epiphany and actually have the motivation to pursue greater is an NSV. You've conquered a major hurdle in your life and have overcome something that has plagued you for sometime. When these things occur, we realize we have regained lost power and belief in ourselves to do "the impossible". Congrats to you at this new moment of discovery, may there be many more moments of positive realization for you in the near future. -
Down Scale Down! or The Fear of Seeing the Scale Move Up Instead of Down
joatsaint posted a blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
One of the scariest or infuriating things I encounter is when I've made a new low on the scale and then gain back 3 or 5 pounds in the next few days. And then it takes a week to get back where I was. I know it's just my body getting adjusted to my new lifestyle, but it is infuriating to see it happen. After reading so many success stories about losing 20 plus pounds per month in the 1st 6 months, I WANT IT TOO! Not 10, not 15, I want my 20+ pound loss, just like clockwork - gimme, gimme, gimme! But that isn't the way my body wants to do it. So I'll just have to get used to the way it works. In fact, the gains are my fault. I allow myself a "cheat" meal on Saturday nights and one more on Sundays when I visit my parents (twice a month). It's not that I eat more food, it's just less healthy. For example: Friday morning weight in: 296.8 Saturday night was Golden Corral buffet night. Over the hour I was there, I had about 4oz of meatloaf, 1 fried chicken strip, 1 big cauliflower floret w/cheese, about 2 tablespoons of Shepard's pie and about 1/2 of some kind of pecan gooey thing. I didn't stuff myself, just ate until I was full, waited while my friend hit the buffet again, and I ate a little here and there as my stomach emptied. The following Sunday happened to be one of the 2 days a month I visit my parents. At lunch we had Churches fried chicken. I had 1 fried breast, 1 single serving of mashed potatoes, and 1 biscuit. This is not the normal fare, usually mom cooks meat and vegetables. I wasn't able to eat the whole thing in one sitting. I broke it into 2 meals, one at 11am, the 2nd at 2pm. The rest of my meals for the weekend were my normal fare: turkey hamburger w/cheese and spaghetti sauce or turkey hamburger w/gravy and chopped cauliflower. In a 4oz bowl. Monday morning weigh in: 302.4 - almost a 6 pound gain! I can only assume that all the salt and sodium caused quite a bit of water retention. I don't believe I really over did it too much on the calories. Now it's Thursday - 4 days later - and I'm back down to 298.4 - 4 pounds. Not surprising really, it's happened more than once. That doesn't mean I have to like it! I think it might be a good thing to switch up foods this way, my body won't get accustomed to a certain calorie count/protein/carb/fat intake. I just won't go overboard on the bad stuff and eat it more than 6 meals a month. Now if only I can get over my fear of seeing the scale move up instead of down! And I'll watch and see how my body reacts long term. If turns out that it's causing stalls or long term weight gain, I'll have to go back to the basic diet and cut out the bad stuff. NSV! Now, where's my light saber? I have to punch a new hole in my belt.- 3 comments
