Hi there! Just wanted to gain some perspective. Out of anyone here who had the gastric bypass, can you give me info on your journey? How much weight did you lose in the first month, 3 months, 6 months after surgery? I'm working on getting my clearances so that I can have surgery in late summer. My friend, who just had GB, told me "your new life doesn't start the day of your surgery, but right now, so take care of yourself!" So, I'm trying. But hearing what others have experienced will give me some perspective and I'm big on that kind of thing.

I lost 25 pounds in 3 months before surgery and your friend is right. Putting off losing weight till surgery date just reminded me of all the excuses I made before. I'll wait till Monday to start or after the holidays.
I'm 8 weeks out from Gastric Bypass and lost another 25. So I'm averaging about 3 pounds a week post-surgery. That's the most I've ever lost consistently over time without regain so I'm happy. Good luck on your journey!

May 2023 surgeries
Miss Sunshine P replied to WVJess2Less's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been saying the same thing to my friends I don’t feel hungry or full. If they hadn’t put me on a time to eat I probably wouldn’t because I don’t know I’m hungry and I stop eating in 30 mins because they told me I don’t feel full. I don’t want to stretch my pouch either but it feels strange not having those feelings. I’m 4 weeks post-op from gastric bypass surgery -
You're absolutely right - it seems to be very different for different people. I had a gradual return of hunger at around 9 or 10 months. Probably over the course of a couple of weeks. If I ate my protein first I still felt full with around the same size of meal, I just wanted to eat again sooner afterwards. Then on top of that as the months progressed I could eat greater volumes - that continued AND I was hungry too. I learned here that head hunger is often craving a specific food or taste or texture, but real hunger can be addressed by eating most anything. So I started to have fruit and veg for snacks and that seems to have worked for me. My 3 main meals are protein first always. I could have just added another meal, but I had been concerned all along that I wasn't getting anything like the recommended fruit and veg intake. My weight loss had slowed when my hunger returned and I stopped losing more or less completely around 15 months post op. I'm 18 months out now and so far maintaining. Everything crossed.

These are great questions, and ones I'd love to know answers to, as well. I'm a week away from being 3 months post-op, and just recently (within the last week or so), I've been having a bare minimum of an appetite. It's kind of nice to not be hungry, but I'm not looking forward to this part of the journey, either. 😅

Post Surgery - Ability to Exercise for long periods ?
Nepenthe44 replied to LandofHopeandDreams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been going on 3 hour hikes since 10 days post-op. That said, I've had very little trouble with fluid intake. (I can't chug a liter of water in one go like before, but that's more of a weird party trick than a positive lifestyle choice.) I also live in a cold temperate climate and wasn't out in the summer sun. I had thought of using a CamelBak type thing to be constantly drinking fluids, but it turned out not to be necessary. -
I have one week pre-op clear liquid diet. Otherwise they just have me practicing the bariatric plate method and taking my vitamins.
-
Hey Carla I have 2 week pre-op diet. Surgery 15th. So I started 2 days early just to get prepared.
-
Starlight you only have 1 week of liquid, im just asking because my surgery is on the 13th and I started my liquid diet yesterday

Thanks me too. I’m sure it will pass. It only comes on if I get up to quick or move wrong. Other then that I’ve been very happy with my choice. It was so fast. She did it robotically and I went home same day. Went right back to work 3 days after.

I had the sleeve almost 3 weeks ago. Today is the only day I been in pain. My recovery has been fantastic till today lol. Was told by my dr it’s pretty normal because that’s where she stitched inside.

Post Surgery - Ability to Exercise for long periods ?
LandofHopeandDreams posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi all - I'm going through the pre-work necessary for GS surgery and wondering if anyone has any experience with exercising for long periods after surgery? Are 3-4 hour bike rides or hikes out of the question? Not really sure how easily it is to stay hydrated with a reduced stomach 🤷♂️. Thanks! -
Drains are out Hooray!! I am on soft food for 4 weeks 1 protein shake a day. I am so happy to get those drains out.

I had a week of solid pain after my surgery, I believe it was gas buildup, but once it all passed I felt great, which surgery did you have? I had the bypass, but I heard the VSG is much more painful to recover from

JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES
Jjohnson1971 replied to Mira88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my 2 week liver shrinking diet today. I also have my pre-op doc visit today. Surgery is on June 12 at OSU hospital in Columbus OH. So the wierd thing is I'm not overly excited or worried or really anything. I keep thinking I will get to that point but it has not hit yet. -
What was your "Last Meal" before starting the pre-surgery diet???
Jjohnson1971 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like its a death row question and I am aware that we get to eat again so that is not what this is about. Just for fun what was your "LAST MEAL" before starting the liver shrinking pre op diet? Ill go first. I had a Memorial day weeked where I smoked pork and a beef brisket on Saturday. Then my actual last meal was a Cajun style seafood boil with crab legs, crawdads, shrimp, corn and potatoes. Also had sea scallops just not done in the boil. it was done in a spicy cajun seasoning and was amazing. This morning was a coffee flavored protein drink. -
Two-year hiatus from this site

I've been on here for eight years although I sometimes disappear for awhile- but usually just for a few weeks at most. I see other old timers pop in every once in awhile. Most people do seem to leave after a few months or after they hit maintenance, but I find sticking around helps keep my head in the game. -
Hey All! I am exactly 1 week post op today. Sleeved 5/22/2023 I am currently on full liquids. Allowed cream soups - watered down with water/skim milk. I feel like everything is making me cramp. As soon as it goes down, I’ll cramp for like a second and it goes away. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this the normal healing process? I don’t know if it’s me taking too much in too fast - I will literally wait a few minutes to try more and still cramp. I’m sipping. Taking things slow but… cramps! This may be completely the norm and something that gets better with time.. just thought I’d ask the community and hear your experiences. Thank you so much!

2 weeks and 6 days. I've started my preop diet by going to see a movie and smelling popcorn instead of eating it. That was hard!

Any April Surgery Dates?
Shanna NYC replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like to add Protein2O water. It counts as fluid and protein. They have both 15g and 20g versions. I’m still at the 70-80 goal currently at 7 weeks post op. Fluids are still a chore to get enough in. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
TEXINFLA replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said to increase my protein intake. From 60-70g to 100-110g and that kick started my stall. Mine was on 4/28. Started at 350 and down to 295 today -
HORRIFIED of General Anesthesia
Brandiwine77 replied to hannah grace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here’s a funny to make you laugh in regards to anesthesia. I went under in 2021 and 2022. 2021 was thyroid removal. I was in the plastic lined gown and the AC went out in pre-op. In July. I’m Alabama. I was sweating. They came and gave me something in IV a few min before they were going to take me back. I got a little loopy. They came to get me and realize I knew all 3 of my OR people. As they wheeled me back I said “y’all I’m sweating. Y’all my crevices are even sweating 😂” they were rolling. -
Any April Surgery Dates?

Have you tried vitamin patches? I had a terrible time with my vitamins and started using a variety of PatchAid supplements. Having blood drawn in two weeks, so hopefully labs will show these patches are working. -
MGB 4 months post op. I’ve lost more than just weight…
SuperGuuurl replied to SuperGuuurl's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Thanks smanky… I appreciate your advice. I will see my doc this week and discuss all of it. You’re right, it doesn’t seem normal to suffer that much every day without relief… -
I had mine done on 3/29/23 and I thought hunger would be gone for awhile also.....no such luck. Always hungry lol.

Any April Surgery Dates?
Clipper1 replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get nauseous. I get blackout dizzy, on top of it. Literally so dizzy, I see my vision go to black. 25 Apr surgery. Hit 2 stalls. In the middle of one, now. I'm trying everything, especially with vitamins and supplements. Grind up vitamins into my shakes. Blender up the nasty iron chews into flavored water. All trying to absorb better. Not sure if it's working.
