Almost 3 months out and able to eat more?
jacksmommy719 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel as if I'm able to eat more now and afraid I'm eating too much. I'm tracking on my fitness pal as best as I can but I'm at a stall for almost 2 weeks and worry of gaining -
Wow, I weight 183 pounds & I'm a size 8, not even close to a 6. Awesome, great job!

I had no restriction in the beginning at all and have yet to reach my sweet spot. So fduring the first few fills I could still really chow down. So much so I was scared I wasgoing to bust the band. My doctor said that was quite normal and that many people actual gain weight intially after being banded. That I just had to be patient and do my best to eat healthy at least and once I got close to my sweet spot I would soon not be able to eat the volumes that I was eating. I was glad he told me because I really nthought restriction would happen straight away which it certainly did not.

Anyone gain weight while doing the pre op classes? I've had a bad week. I'm scared I've gained weight this week. I will be very disappointed if I have. I don't want to lose my chance of having the surgery

Ahhh, I am SO happy right now. I went to my PCP at 8:20 this morning and told him all about what was happening, that I wanted to do the lap band and a bunch of other things. He actually recommended it to my mom (for her) about a year or so ago, so luckily he knew all about it. We talked more about it, about the diets I've tried/failed, how much weight I've put on each year, and that he wants to look at my thyroid. Then I pulled out the sheet that had all my blood labs on it and he said one of those was testing for it, so it was okay. Anywho, he ended up saying that I was a prime candidate for it and he hasn't worked with UT Medical Center yet, but is very much looking forward to it. Most of all, I am so happy he is for it and approved it! He was very impressed with all the research I had done.:whoo: Then came the blood tests, ahhh!! I had a total of 12 blood tests, some needed to be frozen/refrigerated/room temp. The poor lady was sooo nice to me but she was overwhelmed. We ended up having to stick both arms to get all the blood out, but we did! It wasn't too painful, although my arms are sore and beet red. I am so excited though! He is going to fax my surgeons the paperwork and I'll find out when my appointment is!!! I almost cried when he told me he wanted me to get it, haha. :clap2:

My story is similar to yours. I was sleeved on Aug 27 weight that day was 247. Two weeks out I'm at 223. I've been at this weight now for three days. I struggle to get my water in. I'm just moving into the purred stage and doing very well. I haven't been sick at all. Im disappointed that I seem to have stalled already. I meet with my nut tomorrow, looking forward to that. Mostly I'm scared that I want loose as much weight as I need to. I'm not sure where this fear comes from but I think it's from years of dieting and regaining. Good luck to you and me:)

Hey everyone, I am a little over 6 months out and down 90 lbs...ive been extremely committed to going to the gym 3 times a week. I usually do about 45 mins on the elliptical and burn about 550 calories. At this point i really want to start incorporating muscular workouts (all the machines) in the gym. If I cut down to 30 mins on the elliptical and do all the machines for 15 mins will I still lose weight? Just scared by cutting down the cardio will limit the weight loss. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Why Are We So Impatient?
favoredone replied to Joyfulone1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw this topic and started laughing!!! I used to weigh myself several times a day and when I wasn't dropping pounds, I was devestated daily!!!.. I'm learning to enjoy the journey and not be so anxious!! The weight is going to come off... it will.. we are losing inches and pounds of fat that we will NEVER see again.. The 1-3 lbs of fluctuation are usually Water (in my experience) and totally depend on if I'm watching my sodium and sugar intake... We are going to get to our goals... the question is, will we enjoy the journey or not.. I choose to enjoy each moment...even the ones that are not so good... -
Why Are We So Impatient?
Shells replied to Joyfulone1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol I can relate! Your SO there and it's what we wished for and it's happening and we just want to get there. I'm the same way at 190 hitting 189 lol. I got there then gained 3 pounds and now I'm back at 190. I learned my lesson on patience this way lol, I don't mind what weight I am as long as it's going DOWN You got this! Oh I weigh at least every Wednesday or if I forget every 5-7 days. Weight fluctuates all the time so after I use the restroom in the AM is the only time I check. Have a family member take away the scale so it's out of sight out of mind. -
Taking the Plunge: surgery on Monday
Trayjay33 replied to MarcK's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery, it's normal to have those questions. It depends on your surgeons restrictions. You may be restricted regarding lifting on the job and it may be affected by whether you have open bypass or laparoscopic. Regarding an active lifestyle it's the same thing, how long you will be on pain medication, how long you will be on blood thinners. All in all the time you spend recovering is important. Take it easy and heal so that you don't have any issues you could have avoided. You will be amazed at how active you will be when that weight starts coming off. -
Just wanted to write and say....you are going to do good at this! God is going to take care of you and I pray He gives you a peace about the surgery. I know He will be with us all. I too have major depression and I have Bipolar. I am doing well on these meds and my psychiatrist said take them they night before surgery and I shouldn't have any complications. My psychiatrist first recommended this surgery as I have gained 120 lbs in 4 years due to psych meds and increased appetite. Trust in Him in all things! I am praying for us all.....

I'm looking forward to being banded by Dr Gazareyli @ St Joe in Pontiac in January. I'm interested in meeting with a counselor who specializes in weight issues. I'm worried about being an emotional eater. I'm determined to do everything I can to work with my band! Thanks.

44 lbs down and now I can feel my port ..
reverie replied to hotsexyrunnerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pretty close to goal and I can feel my port, but I have been able to all along though now it is more prominent and I don't have to feel around for it. My surgeon automatically put a low profile port in, so no, it won't poke out like the normal ones once I am at my goal weight. -

Help lose weight before surgery
Jenlanning30 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to lose 14 pounds by the beginning of October help?? Need suggestions on how you did this when you was doing your goal weight. -
Hi fellow Bandsters! I have never been on a forum like this although I have had my band 3 1/2 years. I plateaued 2 years ago and have gained and lost the same 11 pounds numerous times. Is there anyone out there like me?? I could have another fill but am concerned about getting enough nutrition and Water. I would rather change the bad habits not handled by the band. Any comments?? Leslie Oh BTW, I suppose being a chef poses it's own set of challenges even with a band. I am also considering other employment options.

Gaining Weight During Gastric Sleeve Surgery Approval Process
iegal replied to bes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Speaking in general terms since you do not say who your insurance is now. I don't think insurance will deny you but your surgeon might. WL surgeons tend to want people who really want to lose weight (not that you don't). Gaining weight will not up your BMI for insurance as your weight is measured from your intial appointment. Hang in there Bes and try not to drown your emotions in food. PS - I gained 5 pounds in the waiting process so I understand. -
Required weight loss before surgery

Why does he require weight loss at all when it's obviously necessary to remove the band? Did you ask him? -

Hello, I was banded 2 yrs ago and haven't had any major problems with my band. I have not 'followed band rules' for about 6 months now. I've gained back 15lbs. As for my problem/question... I started having pain in my legs, actually the muscles in the backs of my thighs about 2 months ago. [i don't have any lower back issues and haven't exercised in quite awhile.] When I bend over it feels like my thigh muscles are tied in knots. After about 2 weeks of this I then woke up with a severe stiff neck. I had to turn my whole torso to look around. My shoulders, collar bone and down my left arm hurts. It also hurts under my left shoulder blade and it feels like my spine is bruised in that area. I can't raise my left arm fully and hurts like hell when I try. It actually hurts in the 'socket'. My hip joints are so sore that I have trouble walking. I used to walk super fast, always did, but now I look like an old woman when I 'shuffle'. I went to my chiroprator about 6 times and it didn't help. I just spent 4 days in the hospital and had scans on my neck and brain and blood work out the wazoo all came back fine. I go to a neurologist[?] on monday and they're talking about doing a spinal tap!! Has anyone had these types of pain and found out it was from scar tissue from their band? I will crap if my band is the cause of all this!! Any help would be greatly appreciated, Darlene

All - I'm looking for a dr that can monitor me for the required 6 month physician supervised weight loss and then write a letter of medical necessity for VSG surgery for my insurance. I have been unsuccessful with my lap band and would like to have it converted to the sleeve. Any advice anyone can offer is extremely appreciated!
