    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hello all! Question around how many calories is everyone consuming a day now ? I have trying to figure out if I’m consuming to many or to little because I have been stalled for three weeks and I am very frustrated. I just don’t understand and my Bariatric center has no nutritionist because the one we had up and retired because she re thought her life because of COVID-19. We then got someone else n she got a better job offer closer to her home with better hours so now we don’t have one again. The last time I saw a nutritionist was in April. I have the paperwork they give you but it’s very little it’s just mostly pre op and i5 said after you should be consuming 700- 1100 cal a day . I exercise twice a day 25 minutes walking in morning and 30 min on stationary bike after work at night. Thank you in advanced for your help!

    Anyone for October 2020?

Today is the final day of stage 2 liquids/protein shakes. I finally can have 2 full premier proteins. Miso soup broth also saved me I’d suggest that over chicken broth. Sugar free popsicles for the win I start stage 3A tomorrow. I’m excited to make some egg bites. This stage only last 10 days and then the stage I been waiting for starts nov 2 ! Looking forward to the infamous ricotta bake

    Day 2 post-op

Hey guys I just had my gastric sleeve done on the 21/10 and I'm able to walk around, go toilet, etc. I barely had any pain (around 2/10 max). The nurses say I need to drink at least 1 litre of water. They also gave me some soup and yoghurt, which was fine for me to eat. However it only hurts when I'm drinking water. I can keep it down but there's just slight pain. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, can anyone give me any tips/advice on what to expect when I go home? Thanks

    Post op eating

Oh my god! Thank you for creating this thread! I'm post op (10/14/20) and I'm supposed to be getting around 40 fl oz of water plus as much protein as I can, plus pureed food. It's unreal the amount of what I need to intake when I'm also struggling with acid reflux and gas which prevents me from intaking really anything. I'm struggling to get a cup or two of any liquid (protein, water, pureed food) down at all during the day. I know this is very doom and gloom but I'm not even sure how they expect this much intake (I've been talking to my surgeon so he's aware).

Welcome to the forums. Advice... Research all the surgical options. Make sure you understand them completely, the good, the bad, the complications, the eating plan, horror stories, and make sure you know everything there is to know. This knowledge is necessary so that you may make an informed choice about which surgery you want. Understand the food plan. Not just what you are supposed to eat and drink but WHY. Thus, if you are in a unusual place you will be able to confidently make a food choice that is on plan. Can you honestly stay on the food plan for the rest of your life? Now the the part about actually DOING stuff related to surgery. Insurance: In IRL you have government insurance (HSE?), so it's not as bad as USA. Here is something about HSE & WLS. Tests: You will be having surgery so your Doc is going to want to run all sorts test to ensure you live through surgery. Docs are such sticklers about keeping patients alive. You can't get out of the test, so just do them as quickly as you can. Surgery is going to hurt, but you'll be asleep. When you wake and likely for a week or more you will be in pain. Not only that but you will likely have trouble eating and drinking. Don't panic. This too shall pass. Now is fun times. You have to learn to eat again. No, you don't get it. You have to learn the mechanics of eating again. You must take small bites and chew it beyond reason. As simple as this sounds you'll do it wrong and it may hurt. Keep working at it, you'll get it. You have to be consistent about your plan. Your tastes may change which is why before surgery you learned every thing about your plan so that now you can figure out things you like and things you don't and the whole while you will stay on plan. Exercise. Yeah I know, I hate exercise for it's own sake. But if you're like me you can just increase your activity. I enjoy people watching so I would go places where I could walk around and people watch. It got to where I was walking 5-10 miles. If you enjoy exercise then do that. Go find your scale and lose it. Scales are evil. You don't need a scale to tell you how you are doing. So many people are doing great on their plan, then the scale doesn't change for 2-3 weeks. They panic and want to change their plan so they can 'kick start' the weight loss. Read that again. They are doing great but the scale caused them to want to abandon their successful plan. Oh, your relationships. Even without telling anyone you are upsetting the balance in your relationships. The good relationships will likely get better and the bad ones worse. Don't worry about it, you did this for you, not them. Now we're to the fun stuff. As you lose you will need to buy new clothes. Then more new clothes. You will start participating in life, doing things you weren't able to before. Pre-op I made a list of 50 things I wanted to do after surgery, then crossed them off as I did them. Little things like fitting in a theater seat. Big things like achieving a normal BMI. You'll learn that some of these things are not that interesting after all. And there are other things you never thought of that are oh so very cool. Good luck, Tek

How mobile were you post op?

Hi! I'm 174cm tall and weighed 105kgs pre-op, dropped down to 99kgs from the 2 week pre-op diet (I was really surprised at this. All that torture paid off!). I just had my sleeve surgery last night around 5pm. Woke up 6:30pm and kept drifting in and out of sleep. Then woke up around 9pm and found myself in my ward. I felt the tiniest amount of pain (2/10 MAX) and had no trouble walking around. Today there's barely any pain, however I'm unable to sleep on my side as it's uncomfortable. One of my friends also had gastric sleeve surgery around 3 years ago and his was the complete opposite of my experience. He couldn't walk without help for a week! But he told me the larger you are, the more pain you'll feel (he was 180kgs and 197cm tall). Not sure if that theory is true tho.

    Today's Dilemma!

I've told everyone because I'm just an open book, and I've thought about this surgery for over 20 years. I'm secure in my decision. Everyone has been supportive. My best friend did say she wished I'd try on my own, but I told her I've tried since I was 10, I know this is right for me and I'm doing it.. She's been supportive since. I can't imagine my mom not knowing, but I'm the only child of a single mom, and we're close. She actually wanted this surgery for me even when I wasn't sure. My husband is very supportive. I think it really depends on your personality. Some people are more private. What's funny, is while I was in the hospital, I had 2 moms from my son's school take care of me, and a respiratory therapist I used to work with. I couldn't hide my surgery if I wanted to! I don't care if anyone judges me. They don't have to live in my body! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Meds

Hey! I have surgery next Wednesday 10/28 and my doctor isn't prescribing me any meds for after I live the hospital. Did anyone else have this happen? Hopefully if I'm in a lot of pain before discharge he will change that.
  15. This is a 2nd hand experience but my cousin and I had surgery just days apart. While I was struggling through the 10 day liquid diet, his surgeon did not require ANY pre-op diet at all! I asked him how he was doing with the pre-op and he looked at me like "what's that?" 😀. My surgeon said the pre-op diet helps to shrink the liver and makes things easier to work with in there. But my cousin did fine and had no complications. So I know of one person who didn't do it and had a successful surgery.
  16. I'm craving something salty... so why not Feta cheese right?? WRONG I've been feeling aweful since, I feel like I'm 19 and hung over... in bed and everytime I move i feel sick. I really thought Feta would be ok since it's a soft cheese... what salty foods curb your salty cravings? I'm 3 weeks post op on soft foods. Sent from my SM-G973W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

Chicken Avocado Salad Another salad? Yes. I was overzealous when buying salad greens and accidentally bought a box that expired 10/15. However, they are organic and last a lot longer than their "best by..." date so I am determined to beat the clock in these. I'm also logging consistently - likely because the Baritastic app is easy and doesn't expose my private information to cyberattacks (Under Armour/MFP ... thanks)
  18. Good Morning Everyone! So I have to tell my Father that I'm having the surgery on November 10th and I'm telling him tonight. I'm really nervous about it. He is the sweetest thing on Earth so I'm probably causing my own anxiety. The thing is my Aunt Susie (whom I'm named after) had a gastric bypass 46 years ago<<<yes you heard that right 46 years ago! In those days they reversed the operation after the patient lost their weight. My Aunt had the first operation with flying colours. The reversal was another story. After surgery while still in the hospital she got sepsis and eventually went into a coma and passed away. She was only 31 years old with two young children. It is a tragic, tragic story and I'm sorry for telling it however I don't want my Dad to be completely freaked out. I'm not at all freaked out. I have been on this journey since August 2019 and I have gone through all the medical and psychological testing required. I've done my research and the team that is taking care of me is from a "Bariatric Centre of Excellence". I'm not afraid. I'm excited. Besides that I'm pretty healthy. So any advice? What would you say? Would you even tell him? Suzanne

    Stricture repair

I had RNY July 1st 2020 and by the first of September i was completely closed up. They did another surgery on 09/21/2020 to open it back up. I went in on 10/19/2020 for an endoscopy and they found out I am closing up again. I feel your pain this sucks. I don't know what they are going to do now. My opening from my stomach to my intestines is less that 3mm and they doc said it should be at least 30mm.

13 years later and - I Love my band

I am also banded but am 10 years with it now! I got my surgery around July 2009 and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I haven't had a fill in about 6 years though and have some how managed. I did have some weight gain when I got pregnant both times because my doctor didn't want me to have any fluid in the band. I think my stomach has shrunk over time or something. I can't eat as much as I used to but I can pretty much eat anything I want. I do get stuck sometimes on bread and potatoes unless it has some sort of condiment on it then I am fine. I haven't had any problems or issues with my band in the last 10 years. Good luck to anyone that is getting it and may you have an easy journey!!!!

You are going to have days like this, but you recognized it. I quit smoking 10 years ago, I've a a few since then but it always reminds me why I quit. I am also curious to know how you felt afterwards. I do plan to make a slice of pizza or a cookie a planned part of my diet. I hope I can eat them. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I'm down 80 pounds from my high weight, and 56 since surgery. I have 13 pounds to go to be below 300. My necklaces fit now without an extender! I can't wear my wedding rings anymore. They're too big. I had to have them resized to a 10 at my highest weight. I'll wait until goal to size them again. I also have clothes that were too small that are now too big! I was able to sit in a booth the other day! My BP is normal and my liver enzymes are half what they were! Congratulations to all of you on your success and your NSV's! November 2020 sleevers

A hiatal hernia does not disqualify you from a sleeve gastrectomy. I believe there are different types of hiatal hernias and of course it just depends on the individual and the surgeon. There are many people , as evidenced by the many videos online, that have had successful sleeve gastrectomy with hiatal hernia. I think that was the thought maybe 10 plus years ago but not anymore. And again it depends on the individual, the surgeon and the other comorbidities and health concerns - all that good stuff.

    November 2020 sleevers

My doctor never mentioned one for me. Just the pre-op diet (10 days, low carb/low cal) that I start on the 23rd - I also have to take my temperature every day for 10 days. I think that's a hospital requirement rather than my surgeon; pre-op lab work (dunno what this involves) on the 28th; covid testing on the 30th (also hospital requirement); and my surgery is on November 2.
