  1. No game

    Okay, seriously?! :/

Protein is very important and I eat it first but veggies come right after.... I do not eat much fruit but I do eat 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries (20 calories) in my Greek yogurt daily (yummy favorite meal) Plus veggies = roughage= poop=

    Okay, seriously?! :/

I don't know about all of you, but my first meeting with the NUT was pointless. I have read, researched, followed, researched, learned, internalized, researched, and read more on nutrition than most nutritionists. My problem is self-control. I know how to get all my Vitamins, I don't know how to stop wanting that extra slice of cheesy awesomeness that is pizza. We know when we're missing something vital. I think it's totally ok to "cheat" on the NUT when they tell us something along the lines of "no veggies...ever." I don't drink milk because unprocessed milk (by that I mean plain ole milk that hasn't been turned into cheese or yogurt) does not have a nice effect on me. I lurve my veggies and know that there are a ton of them that have just as much Calcium as milk. When I told my NUT all of the above, she was still way concerned about my calcium intake, because, you know, milk is the only place to get calcium...says the NUT. All I am saying is, if your NUT's advice is giving you scurvy, feel free to take matters into your own hands.

    Constipation

I eat yogurt daily and it regulates my bowel movement. If I'm feeling constipated, I double my daily yogurt intake. I remembered I was constipated on the first week though. The doctor advised me to buy Dulcolax. It does get better though.
  4. HI Everyone, I'm new here...was sleeved on 9/9/13....had horrible gas the first two days post op but by morning of day three i had no more gas...I never had any pain except during coughing so after gas was gone I needed no further pain med...my food allowance and progression is 1st week-clear liquids, 2nd week full liquids, 3rd week soft/puree, 4th week regular texture no bread, pasta, for 1st 4-6 months.... so Im on full liquids which includes greek yogurt, hot cereal, pudding, milk, protein shakes, etc,,,so far so good for me, I belch way more than I ever did, and I'm finally able to drink and get at least 32 ounces and get all my protein in. taking my supplements is another story, Im having a hard time getting the pills down.. they get stuck while trying to go down and it burns and causes nausea. today was the first day I had no burning and got the pills down while taking continuous sips....I've decided to weigh myself weekly. started pre-op surgery day 237 and upon leaving hospital I was 5lbs down, one week later 10 lbs down. I'll weigh myself again. on 9/23. im excited about my journey though i must admit , I cant wait to have some textured food....please discuss your experiences...Im excited to hear about others

    When did you start purée?

I'm guessing peanut butter is a bit too thick yet. Tempting because the protein count is good... I would think yogurt is closer to the texture advised, but each doc is so different .

    Sodaaaa!

Oops have different post op diets. After day four I could begin to add full liquids which included cream soups, shakes, yogurt, sf puddings, broth, sf Popsicles and of course sf jello. None of these hurt me at all I just couldn't eat much at a time. Love mush sp... So don't feel bad about your cheats... I think your diet is a tad strict . Not that I'm saying anything Negative about it, just don't be hard on Yourself! You guys are doing great!

    I am soo disgusted....

This really makes me sad that your doctor doesn't seem to want to help you. I was self pay and my doctor is so hard on me and "demands" me to abuse him for the first year. I have to see him every month regardless if I need a fill or just to talk to him..he wants to see me. You would think since he can't bill my insurance he wouldn't even want to see me. I guess the only thing I can suggest or tell you what I have done...I have currently 5.25 ccs in a 10cc band (I had a total of 4 fills but we had to unfill when I hit 6ccs..it was too tight). When I was first banded 11/23/9 I followed the "diet" to a tee for the first month..then I told my doctor that this is not a diet this is a lifestyle change. I eat normal foods (I make the same meal for my entire family for dinner). I just eat much smaller portions, I eat the protien first and then nibble on what ever else might be served. I never drink a 1/2 prior or after any meal. I am not a breakfast person so I normal do drink a shake for breakfast. My snacks include Chobani Greek yogurt or SF pudding. I have lost 75 lbs to date and going strong. I walk for my excerise. I love my band!! Stay positive. I truly hope this new doctor is more helpful to you! I wish you the best!!

    pureed stage

My surgeon says yes to grits and oatmeal. He even says toast(not brave enough for that yet) I know that grits aren't very nutritious but I was thinking of whipping them up with scoops of unflavored Protein powder just for something different. I couldn't stomach jellos or puddings before surgery and even after its hard to to get one down . Im already down to shakes, popsicles, and yogurt so it'd be nice to have a different texture at least once a week. It's never too late, until its too late

    NEED YOUR HELP

I hate Isopure too, but there's another product called New whey liquid Protein that will give you 46 grams in 4 ounces. It tastes the same as Isopure. It SUCKS. But if you suck it down like medicine, it might get your energy up. Other strategies --protein in applesauce, protein in yogurt and I'm not sure if you know this, but Jello actually has some protein in it. But honestly -- a week out your energy is going to be for shit anyway. I didn't feel reasonably coherent for three or four.

What Are You Guying Eating At 2 Months

Eat yogurts, sf pudding, sf jellos, Soups, go to emilybites and check out her lasagna cupcakes, etc. She has some really tasty stuff you can use for your self. My family loves them too.

    Dec. 5th surgery date

Welcome Cheri, and congrats on the positive decision you have made for yourself! Like NJ Chick said this is not just to look better, it is to BE better and to have a better quality of life for you AND your kids. As already mentioned, every Dr had different reccomendations regarding diet. I had some good advice before my surgery and that was (for the last 2 weeks) live as if I was banded -- I walked alot, drank tons of water, gave up caffeine and soda, and aside from a few "last suppers" ate a soft, bland diet (eggs, cream of wheat, yogurt, cottage cheese etc). It helped me get ready both physically as well as mentally for the changes that were to come. That way when my surgery rolled around I wasn't in for such a huge culture shock at the same time as trying to heal and deal with all the emotional changes going on. Everyone's recovery is different. I am in shock to hear about people going home from hospital the same day -- I stayed most of 2 days after. I also took a week off work, and if I worked full time would have had to take more as I needed to nap in the afternoon for several weeks after. Surgery affects everyone differently and I wish you a great recovery. As far as needing help around the house I say if you have people offering -- take it!! It can only help you recover faster, the less you HAVE to do! Best wishes!

    cereal binge eaters

I love cereal!!! If I ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner I would be happy!! My favorite right now is Frosted Chex and the Cheerios with strawberry yogurt flavor. It goes down pretty well and to me it is very satisfying. :hungry:
  15. I know that sounds like a psychology question, but I mean that literally. I'm pre-op (6 more days!!) but as I look at the post-op food that I'm supposed to eat, and the stuff that people talk about eating on the boards and I had a question. It's a lot of sugar free or low carb or fat free stuff and I'm wondering, is that for enhanced weight loss or does it have something to do with the sleeve and recover?. Can the sleeve not tolerate sugar or fats? I know that further out people talk about eating whatever they want in moderation, but not so in the weeks/months right after surgery (ie: fat free greek yogurt with sugar free torani syrup can you not just eat yogurt?). Not looking for a loophole, just trying to understand.

    Post op constipation

I've been constipated for 2 years! Drink lots of water, and try adding Benefibre (or any other such product) to your protien shakes. Also, believe it or not, bran cereal works wonders. I hate bran, so I sprinkle it on top of frozen yogurt.
  17. I wouldn't try tuna with yogurt. Sounds absolutely ghastly! It's been my experience with the NUTS that I've worked with in the hospital, that discussing fats is difficult. They don't tend to be big on any fat, bad or good.

    3 weeks post op

I pretty much eat the same exact things. I had miso soup today and a 3oz piece of grilled chicken plus protein shakes, yogurt and decaf tea. At 3 weeks post I feel like I can eat. I also have not lost anymore weight this week. Thinking I should try and stick to liquids only for another week.

    Soft Moist Food Ideas

Hello All! I am approaching my 8th Post Op day when I can start soft moist solid foods. Most of the items suggested on my list are things I'm not too fond of eating but am willing to try since it's going to be my means of survival for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Besides, the less I can eat in general now, the less I have to suffer through right? Anyways, my doc has suggested things like cottage cheese, eggs, baked fish, tofu, yogurt etc. What kinds of things did you eat during this time? A friend suggested Chef Boyardee Mini Raviolis or Spaghettio's but I don't know if that's a good idea. What says those who have been there done that with this stage? Thanks!

    Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story

I was doing yogurt for 3 days before surgery, I hardly ate anything. Didn't eat anything at all the night before my surgery.
  24. I'm only 5 days post op but some things are on my full liquids that are probably more like soft foods. This morning i had oatmeal for the first time. I used 1 T of oatmeal and made it watery. I feel like I ate a whole pie, very full. I think I'm going to try a yogurt for lunch. Was never a fan of it but I'm hoping my taste has changed.

    Latuda

Hello! Fellow latuda taker here. I was actually told to switch my medication to something else until I could eat larger amounts again. My surgeon told me the 400 cal requirement just wouldn't be possible in the post operative diet phases. And he wasn't wrong. I could only eat about 200 cals at a time. My psychiatrist put me on abilify but then we changed it last minute back to Latuda. I discovered that eating fattier foods helped me absorb it better so instead I would eat a purred high fat food like full fat yogurt and a piece of soft cheese then take my pill. It did the trick and I stayed very stable throughout the diet phases. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
