Trying again/My Story: PreOP Diet #2
LadyVS replied to LadyVS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl yes this is hard. I'm surprised you're able to eat meat. The majority of us are on full liquids. So in my little carnal mind, I'm trying to understand why you're hungry? I would think just one yogurt, but I can't have that so idk. I would definitely give a call to find out. Best wishes. -
What Are You Eating?
tabithainbremerton replied to Diva817's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not yet had lap band, but should on dec 27, so my hubby asked me for a list of foods for him to buy me. I have been perusing this site tonight looking for good ideas, healthy foods to have. It looks like that's what you're asking... for ideas for alternatives. Here's what I have found, hope some of it sounds yummy. skim milk, broth, sugar free Jello or pudding, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs (maybe with a little cheese), applesauce, cottage cheese, pureed Soup, banana, tuna, yogurt. And remember, just keep moving forward. Just because you made one bad choice doesn't mean you have to make more. As said above- we're all in this together, you can do it! Tabby. -
Pb stands for productive burp. It's just a bandster way of saying puking. I have pbed once. I burped and a little food came with it. I have puked way more times where it lasted hours. I haven't done that in awhile though cause I got some fill taken out. In the middle of Dec. I am getting a fill because I want to go back to not being hungry. It was wonderful. Have any of you tried cottage cheese and yogurt mixed together? It's really good and goes down well. I even have to chew cottage cheese though.

I was banded in July 2009 and have been experiencing left shoulder pain since. It bothers me all the time and feels like a pinched nerve (burning/pulling sensation). It's terrible because I sleep with my left arm under my pillow so I've had to alter my sleeping position. Thank you to the bander who posted the use of a heating pad. I just ran in and grabbed my heating pad and am hoping this works! Also, thank you to the bander who posted about the diaphram. I've had terrible acid reflux, heartburn, pressure like a brick sitting on my chest for the past two weeks. I called my surgeon and he put me back on liquids thinking that something was stuck in my band. After 6 days I was finally able to eat yogurt. on the 8th day I tried eating a piece of baked chicken and a few very soft green Beans and I'm back to square one... PAIN and Acid Reflux. I can only sip on liquids and sometimes they come up too. My surgeon doesnt have office hours on Fridays, so I'm waiting til Monday in the hopes that something gives. I'd love to hear from anyone else with the same symptoms and what it might be... band slippage, restriction, food stuck, hernia, ???

Cake after being sleeved
tracywag replied to LMSWNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I know my family will be having cake, I make myself a mug cake. 1 scoop Protein powder (I've used banana, chocolate and blueberry), 1 scoop Carbquik (can also use a nut flour plus baking soda), an egg, a scoop of cottage cheese, ricotta, or greek yogurt, and add milk until it looks like batter. Microwave in a bowl or larg mug for 1-1.5 minutes. When I say scoop, it's the same scoop as the Protein Powder so all equal parts. -
Question about purée food...
Ele marie replied to Express09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine goes from 3 weeks to 6 weeks I scramble eggs with cottage cheese to make it soft and it's either that or you have to have soft boiled eggs I can have refried Beans Soups with low carbohydrates and no more than 10 grams of sugar I can have pureed cauliflower carrots stuff like that. I also could have thin deli meat. But it has to be real deli meat not the processed stuff. I can have applesauce with no sugar. And skinless fruit. No grapes. He doesn't want us to mashed potatoes or hot Cereal because there's a lot of carbs after 6 weeks we can add that what you have to to fill yourself up on Protein first. I can also have soy. I bought some soy chorizo and used it as a meat in a homade chili I made for the whole family they loved it. And of course Greek yogurt under 10 grams of sugar. Same with yogurt. And a half of a banana and only string cheese. Hope I helped my doctor gave me a menu. But remember every doctor is different. Good luck on your journey ♡ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App -
Question about purée food...
jane13 replied to Express09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Express09 - stuffing is too risky IMO as it could form a ball in your new tummy. That is why the soupy type mashed potatoes are allowed at this point, although there is no Protein (unless you add unflavored) value. I have added flavored powdered protein to unflavored plain greek yogurt for a pudding type snack. I use 1 scoop (25 or so grams of protein, depending on what you are using) and added the flavored protein to a consistency I would call like pudding. -
Surgery Nov. 2! Liquid diet is driving me crazy.
SalsaKitty replied to Andi2522's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is Nov 2 as well. I've been doing full liquids this week starting Sunday. I'm finding I get hungry right around the time that I am going to bed but I fall asleep and all seems to be ok. I'm constantly drinking something. Protein shake (I'm allowed 1 scoop of whichever protein I like with 16oz of liquid, half almond milk and half water), tea, Water, Soups with no chucks, low/no sugar yogurt drinks... It's like it's never ending! We got this. -
No Full Feeling after Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Holiday replied to Luvata's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with this, too, until about 6 weeks out. It defiinitely gets better. In the meantime, my tips are the ones you hear so often - eat very, very, very slowly. "Full" takes some time to register, so if you're eating with any rapidity, you'll likely become over-full suddenly. I also measured based on the volume I was currently tolerating. Early on, 2 tablespoons was my standard measurement for mushies and about 1oz for solids. That increased little by little. I'm at 7 weeks now and can tolerate about 2-3 oz of meats, 6-8 oz of mushies like yogurt or Soup. But still only with a very careful watch on eating slowly and analyzing how I feel. And even tonight I mixed it up, with 1 oz of cheese, 1/2 cup of soup, and some Protein puffs and suddenly realized I had mindlessly taken two bites too many. It doesn't happen as often these day, but it can still happen if I'm not being mindful. Hope this helps. Here's wishing you much luck and patience and you adjust. -
Anyone stay on shakes for meal times longer than first couple weeks?
Orchids&Dragons replied to GansettRam74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly, since I'm hardly eating any "real food" I've got to be chock full of chemicals. Between protein shakes, protein water, sugar-free non-fat yogurt, Crystal Light, turkey bacon, light mayo, high protein snacks, etc. I'm not sure that I'm actually eating "healthier" at all -
Cottage cheese, yogurt going down too easy?
ssflbelle replied to jackbh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Isn't that odd I had 2 weeks of liquids only. I was not allowed yogurt or cottage cheese until week 4. I find even now 17 weeks post op there are many times I can't even finish 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or a cup of yogurt. -
Pre-Op Gastric Bypass
sandeeb replied to Saria Fleming's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am always surprised to hear about other pre op diets. Mine is restrictive but not liquid at all. I can have 800 calories and 80 or more of Protien. They gave me a menu sample and lots of yogurts lean meats etc .i know I will miss caffeine the most and my glass of wine with dinner! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
The Greek yogurt with fruit already mixed in is going to be higher in carbs but it's so yummy. Shyone, If you have a costco, I've been told you can buy quarts of it there pretty cheap. A lot of people really like the brand Fage. That's why I buy the plain and mix in sf syrups most of the time, to keep the carb count down. The plain is also higher in Protein.

9 month update. :-)
terry1118 replied to terry1118's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to everyone here who encouraged me and answered my many, many questions both before and after surgery. Because of you I knew what to expect and was prepared for things not covered in my workshops and nurse education class (like the 11 pounds gained from IV fluids!). You shared recipes for different stages (like ricotta bake and chili) and made product recommendations (like cherry chocolate Greek yogurt and Protein granola). You shared advice on everything - constipation, foamies, rashes, gas, dry skin, social issues, vomiting, and on and on. You shared funny stories that made me laugh (the thread about gas was one). You offered sympathy and encouragement when I was struggling. You celebrated every NSV with me and cheered me on. We all help each other. That's what makes this group so special! Thank you!!! :-) -
I couldn't tolerate protein powders/shakes postop (Or now!) I lived off of milk, drinkable yogurt, and protein kefir for a week or two until purees.

I eat yogurt daily and it regulates my bowel movement. If I'm feeling constipated, I double my daily yogurt intake. I remembered I was constipated on the first week though. The doctor advised me to buy Dulcolax. It does get better though.

I agree about different temps. I liked some hot that weren't so good cold. Also there's a good chicken soup one you can order. Finally, I mix mine with non-fat Greek yogurt (Fage) and add a squirt of that coffee flavoring - either coffee flavor itself or things like SF caramel, etc. Good luck - keep at it until you find something works.

maybe just give solids a try for a week or so ? bananas, sliced apple, nuts, yogurt, 1/2 of a protein bar , or my personal favorite , turkey jerkey ! ( high protein, low in fat and calories.)

This is a tough period post-surgery. I know because I am going through it too. Yeast infection makes sense because of the antibiotics. Try eating probiotic yogurt or kefir. I had a yeast infection post op too, got rid of it with otc remedies and eating Probiotics. Right now I am having problems with constipation/diarrhea (both) with pain in my lower quadrant. About to call the Dr just to make sure everything is up and up. I did not think it would take this long to feel good and I have had a few tears as well. But I am confident "this too will pass". It is always good to receive assurance during this difficult healing period. Support is essential to your wellbeing. If you don't have supportive family or friends around you don't be embarrassed to call your Dr. My kids are Dr's so I know they are just people, feeling people at that. In reference to regretting the surgery. I had a couple of moments like that but then I remembered where I was when I decided to go for it. Do I want to be there again? No way! I spent years trying to do it on my own, and I had to force the hand, since I wasn't able to control food intake without help. Forcing the hand comes with sacrifices, not least of all is learning to derive pleasure without food, the temporary physical ones I am confident will resolve. Now to call my surgeon for reassurance.

How to stop the craving of snacks???!
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to TJ30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eventually you'll be able to have snacks--just choose the right things. One of my favorite things is a handful of cashews, for example. Or eat a yogurt (such as Oikos triple zero)--I find that I can take a very long time to finish one of them even now, and back in the early stages I could only eat a half a one at a time. Or maybe a stick of cheese? You'll find things you like that won't seem strange to other people if you choose them instead of something like cake. -
I think you the regret you are feeling is normal-I know I felt it and still feel it sometimes-I am early on but I do understand what you mean. It is a kind of mourning the loss of freedom in what you eat, the pureed stage of the diet is horrible and i have got to the stage of almost puking when I eat cottage cheese or yogurt. I am sure I may never eat cottage cheese again. I am getting to the stage where food is just what I have to eat to live. I think we can go through the 5 stages of grief with this surgery! Some people may laugh at me but I think it is normal to do this

I don't have any different recommendations for soft foods. I pretty much stuck to the basics, egg whites, Greek yogurt, LF cottage cheese. I did eat Fat free refried Beans with low fat cheese which tasted pretty good. As for the belly button, miserable isn't it?! I had a complication and a second surgery that made a question mark around mine. The pressure from that was one of the worst things. Still bothers me from time to time. It helps to support the weight of your stomach with your hand when you move around or with a pillow when you are trying to sleep. They also make an abdominal brace that does that, but I couldn't find one that fit right. Best to you!

Foul smelling farts and poop
shedo82773 replied to Melanie89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am Lactose Intolerant since my RNY. But I can eat cheese, yogurt. The stinky poo and gas probably the Protein. I bought some drops that you add to the toilet before you go and they seemed to help somewhat. The thing is I forget to put them in. LOL Ferbreeze has come out with a POO SPRAY I have seen it on TV but I can't remember the name of it.
