Does your stomach feel normal?
Miss Topaz replied to logicwand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No feeling in my actual stomach other than my volume is way down. First couple days after getting out of hospital it gurgled but that has stopped. My program recommends 1/4 cup servings to start. Still on that except for yogurt, where I can eat more. My incisions, at 4 weeks out, are itching like crazy. yesterday no. Today OMG. I found a dose of children's benadryl helps me to sleep without waking up itching. -
Are you supposed to be on liquids for another week? Week 2 I could do yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans, very thin soup, jello, sf pudding, sf popsicles.

I agree with @alexmcintyre. Eating small, frequent, protein-packed meals is excellent. Protein helps fill you. Also, limit your carbs throughout the day. Some carbs tend to not satisfy your hunger and some carbs can also lead to wanting more carbs. If you have break-through hunger in-between your meals, then it is good to keep healthy snacks on hand: proteins such as cheese, some yogurts, etc... or even might want to keep some fresh cut veggies on hand, such as red peppers, cucumbers, carrots, snap peas. Yum! As for the eating, and then the food coming back up, that could be acid reflux. I am dealing with it right now at 15 months out. If it continues to bother you, do mention it to your doctor.

I use Isopure unflavored protein powder. Love it. You can mix it in many things: yogurt, cottage cheese, soup, powerade zero, decaf iced or hot tea, decaf or reg coffee, refried beans, mashed sweet potatoes, oatmeal Congrats on the weight loss.

Protein, vitamins, fluids and if you want to add some carbs do so in the form of more complex ones like thinned cream of wheat/oatmeal or no sugar added dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese and even milk have plenty of naturally occurring lactose which is sugar). The refined sugars or even the fructose in fruit juices might not be the best idea this early out:

The best on-plan thing I have eaten lately is...
GotProlactinoma replied to etc. etc. etc.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most on plan I am is when I have mid day protein powder mixed into plain full fat Greek yogurt. (I add a bit of coconut water to have it mixable since it gets too thick). Then I see at the end of the day that I had enough protein. It always helps. Even if my breakfast and dinner are good, it all works better when I make sure to have this tasteless protein “snack.” -
I'm struggling with the same thing right now. I have trouble until evening. I can get stuff down in the morning but it hard to get yogurt or even a protein shake down. It actually hurts and feels like it just sits in my chest. I as well don't think I am too tight because I can eat a large portion in the evening. I just had a feel last week so I'm trying to tough it out and see how it goes.

2 years out - what is your daily menu like?
Wendyfm replied to crazyplantlady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Mine depends. Today 1 slice quiche 1 cpcoffee 1 banana Breakfast 1/4 cup peanut Snack 1 container plain yogurt Mixed berries Lunch 1 cup pork chop suey Supper Either 1 piece quiche or crackers with pepperoni and Gouda cheese for a snack -
I definitely know what you mean! I’m 5 days out from my sleeve and it’s so weird not being hungry. Of course I would love to chow down on a ribeye and loaded potato but obviously that’s mental hunger. It is kind of weirding me out. Today was my first day back to work and all I’ve had is a protein shake, a half a portion of broccoli cream soup, a popsicle, and a half a single container of yogurt. And I’ve still got to get 10 more grams of protein and almost 15 ounces of fluid before I go to sleep. It’s a weird feeling to physically not be able to eat anymore when we are so used to eating way too much with ease. Good luck and let me know if you come up with any tricks! Haha

Hang in there! My surgeon reminded me at my 3 week postop appointment that it won't always be a straight bee-line down on the scale. Told me it was fine to weigh myself as long as it's not anxiety inducing. Are there other things you can eat, other than what the surgeon provided? Dannon light and fit yogurt has been one of my go-tos. And I mixed some low-fat ricotta with splenda (or stevia), vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg -- that's gone down quite well. I remember one of my leaders from weight watchers reminding those who weren't eating all their points and not losing - you do have to eat to lose weight. Your body will tell you. Good luck! -
I'm sorry you're dealing with the nut allergy! That's sooo frustrating. Definitely glad to hear that your NUT is open to a plant-based diet! For whole food concentrated protein, like you said, beans are definitely the way to go. You can eat hummus or refried beans as well, they are a bit smoother/less filling so you might be able to eat more that way. Another good option is soy, particular soy milk. Make a smoothie with soy milk or add it to your oatmeal and that's 8-12g of protein just from the milk depending on how much you use. (Most other plant milks are low in protein.) In terms of non-concentrated protein, you can get it from literally any whole food. Whole grain pasta has a pretty good amount, about 4 grams in half a serving (1 oz dry). Most plant foods will have 1-3g in a serving and throughout the day that adds up. For plant-based protein that's more processed, like a supplemental protein (which you will definitely need this early post-op) there are some really tasty protein bars I've found called Nugo which are vegan and made from soy protein. I believe many of the flavors do not contain nuts, but you'd have to check to be sure. You can buy them on Amazon or in the protein bar aisle at Whole Foods. (And maybe other places!) You can also look for protein powders made from pea protein, brown rice protein, etc. as well. Orgain is one common brand. I just found some ready-made vegan shakes (like premier protein) at Target that I believe are Evolve brand, but I haven't tried them yet. Hopefully they taste all right! Probiotics... well that's a whole other discussion LOL (basically if you're not eating animal products you likely don't have a big need for probiotics as the plants help your gut bacteria stay happy on their own) but to answer your direct question, there are some fermented plant options! Sauerkraut if you like it, and kombucha tea are two good places to start. You can also make yogurt and kefir from soy milk, although I haven't done it myself (yet!) so I can't give you specific guidance. Good luck!!

If you are five days post op you probably should not be eating or drinking bananas and yogurt if you are sleeved. -
February bypass buddies?

Jennifer.... it will get better my first couple of days I regretted everything, but then looked in the future. I am post op 15 days and I have good and bad days. The pain is liking gas pain. Gas X chewables are wonderful to have and help so much. Also, burping hurts so bad feels like a heart attack. Congrats on surgery and I am sorry everything hurts just keep trying.... I promise it will get better. Focus on liquid intake because dehydration is the worst and very painful. Protein is going to come from your liquid intake at this point. Are you a coffee drinker? If so, decaf mixed with caramel protein premier is delightful and 30g of protein per premade drink. Or what kind of drinks do you like? Protein premier makes a clear water that tastes really good... it is too sweet for me so I split it in half and add half water and it helps get in 10g to 20g of protein. Do you like yogurt? Dannon light smoothies are delicious with 9g of protein. Are you a milk drinker? Fairlife is great with 13g of protein per serving. Get creative and don’t be afraid to try stuff. You will either like it or not. You could make your own protein popsicles as well. I had to get really creative and still am. I am doing my purée phase and Power Pudding is my life saver for days I just can’t eat anything. Let me know if I can help you with anything. -
ESG Progress Updates For Accountability
hope4momof4 replied to hope4momof4's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hello Mel 👋🏻👋🏻. It’s so wonderful to hear from you. I am down now 9 pounds. I’m trying not to be discouraged by the number on the scale. You were absolutely right that the greatest advantage of having this procedure is the amazing energy I have now. I can complete what I need to for the day(chores, housecleaning, etc.), get in a workout at the gym, make a nice dinner for my family and not feel overwhelmed or stressed out. I love this feeling! Tex, you were right about the cravings, I am floored by the fact that a few nights ago we ordered pizza for the kids and I did not even feel the urge to have a slice. Yes I know I am only 12 days postop so pizza is a definite no-no but I just didn’t want any. 😱😱😱 You remember how concerned I was about this preop? I drink my protein shakes, my bone broth, my Greek yogurt and I’m full and happy as can be. If you guys remember an esg poster a while back named Alcerik. I believe he posted in detail about his experience with this procedure, he was very successful and advised the rest of us to stay on the full liquid phase as long as you can which I plan to do. As long as I’m not struggling I am going to stick with this stage. I have energy and I’m not cranky or irritable or hungry yet. I know this won’t last forever but I’m riding it out as long as I can. I’ve read about others losing more but you know what I’m happy with my slow and steady progress. I’m in no rush and the energy and confidence this has given me has just been priceless guys. Once again thanks for allowing me to share and for all of your love and support. One more thing for the post ESGers, can you tell me what else you can recommend for me in the full liquid stage? I want to be proactive in case I get bored of — protein shakes, bone broth, Greek yogurt, and sugar free jello and pudding. Thank you all!!!! -
Help! Increased heartburn AFTER my RNY - 4 wks post op

I heard that creamy dairy.products after the Ry could cause you to get very sick. I.was at a.support group and it.was mention that a few.got really sick and.that OIKa yogurt is thick like cream. -
I make this "cereal" that I'm planning on using post op. 1/4c 2% cottage cheese (Daisy) 1/4c Greek yogurt, plain (HEB) 1floz Fairlife fat free milk 4-7 drops liquid vanilla stevia (Vitacost) 1oz frozen blueberries (no syrup or sugar added) 6g Fiber One cereal threads (original version) 6g sliced almonds Stir the first 4 ingredients until well combined, then top with frozen blueberries, cereal and nuts. Nutrition: 148cals; 16g protein; 14g carbs; 5g fiber; 8g net carbs; 7g sugar It's so dang good. I would probably drop the blueberries to 1/2oz post surg cuz of the sugar content of the meal. It really eats like a bowl of cereal and milk without all the liquid lake of milk part.

Hey everyone just wondering...

Have you tried thinned down cream soups, very thin cream of wheat, are you drinking broth, eating st popsicles. Sounds like you've hit a blah stage. How about pudding or yogurt? Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
Wahooo girl! I hope to be there right with you on the full liquid phase by Wednesday (2.21.18). I can have protein drinks, strained cream and regular soups, clear liquids, Greek yogurt thinned down with Fairlife fat free milk. Nothing that has fiber in it--so green smoothies are out. I figure I will get some jars/cans of tomato bisque, poblano soup, etc and strain them and add protein powder to them. Also, I can have V-8 which also makes a tasty "soup" with protein and spices, heated up to warm it. I think I remember I can have jello sf pudding as well as the jello, popsicles, sf fudgesicles. I'm gonna try mixing Premier Protein with SF pudding or unflavored jello and see if I can churn it into ice cream. LOL. Will see. I'm with the others. Ricotta Bake won't come until puree phase for me, which will be in about 3 weeks.

Same! My sleeve will not tolerate it I’m in so much pain when I do eat it and I hate yogurt so I’m trying to find something else that could work..
-
I was on full liquids on day 3 and moved to pureed foods at around 10 days, which is when I could have ricotta. Ricotta kind falls in with yogurt so check with your plan as far as when that is OK to have. I have only used My Fitness Pal..almost continuously for the past year, and have been really pleased with it. Sorry, I wasn't super creative, it was actually nice for me to have simple choices at that stage. Lots of yogurt and soup..lol. Good luck to you!

If you are 3 months out, it is likely you have already restored these colonies because some foods such as yogurt contain natural probiotics. https://www.livestrong.com/article/281319-yogurt-brands-containing-probiotics/

The weakness is def a sign of needed fluid, salt in broth will help that too. But as soon as you can take in small amounts of real food protein it gets better. Cottage cheese, high protein yogurt like Siggi's will help a lot, even tuna salad makes a huge impact once you get to that stage.

Yes, surgery was 2/12, this past Monday. My program is full liquids for 2 weeks, once discharged. I was told (repeatedly, lol) if it would fit through a straw, I could have it. Plus I can have sf jello, pudding and yogurt.
