Help! Increased heartburn AFTER my RNY - 4 wks post op
Native Girl replied to Miserable's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I heard that creamy dairy.products after the Ry could cause you to get very sick. I.was at a.support group and it.was mention that a few.got really sick and.that OIKa yogurt is thick like cream. -
I make this "cereal" that I'm planning on using post op. 1/4c 2% cottage cheese (Daisy) 1/4c Greek yogurt, plain (HEB) 1floz Fairlife fat free milk 4-7 drops liquid vanilla stevia (Vitacost) 1oz frozen blueberries (no syrup or sugar added) 6g Fiber One cereal threads (original version) 6g sliced almonds Stir the first 4 ingredients until well combined, then top with frozen blueberries, cereal and nuts. Nutrition: 148cals; 16g protein; 14g carbs; 5g fiber; 8g net carbs; 7g sugar It's so dang good. I would probably drop the blueberries to 1/2oz post surg cuz of the sugar content of the meal. It really eats like a bowl of cereal and milk without all the liquid lake of milk part.

Have you tried thinned down cream soups, very thin cream of wheat, are you drinking broth, eating st popsicles. Sounds like you've hit a blah stage. How about pudding or yogurt? Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
Wahooo girl! I hope to be there right with you on the full liquid phase by Wednesday (2.21.18). I can have protein drinks, strained cream and regular soups, clear liquids, Greek yogurt thinned down with Fairlife fat free milk. Nothing that has fiber in it--so green smoothies are out. I figure I will get some jars/cans of tomato bisque, poblano soup, etc and strain them and add protein powder to them. Also, I can have V-8 which also makes a tasty "soup" with protein and spices, heated up to warm it. I think I remember I can have jello sf pudding as well as the jello, popsicles, sf fudgesicles. I'm gonna try mixing Premier Protein with SF pudding or unflavored jello and see if I can churn it into ice cream. LOL. Will see. I'm with the others. Ricotta Bake won't come until puree phase for me, which will be in about 3 weeks.

Same! My sleeve will not tolerate it I’m in so much pain when I do eat it and I hate yogurt so I’m trying to find something else that could work..
-
I was on full liquids on day 3 and moved to pureed foods at around 10 days, which is when I could have ricotta. Ricotta kind falls in with yogurt so check with your plan as far as when that is OK to have. I have only used My Fitness Pal..almost continuously for the past year, and have been really pleased with it. Sorry, I wasn't super creative, it was actually nice for me to have simple choices at that stage. Lots of yogurt and soup..lol. Good luck to you!

If you are 3 months out, it is likely you have already restored these colonies because some foods such as yogurt contain natural probiotics. https://www.livestrong.com/article/281319-yogurt-brands-containing-probiotics/

The weakness is def a sign of needed fluid, salt in broth will help that too. But as soon as you can take in small amounts of real food protein it gets better. Cottage cheese, high protein yogurt like Siggi's will help a lot, even tuna salad makes a huge impact once you get to that stage.

Yes, surgery was 2/12, this past Monday. My program is full liquids for 2 weeks, once discharged. I was told (repeatedly, lol) if it would fit through a straw, I could have it. Plus I can have sf jello, pudding and yogurt.

Nice job! I like the 100 calorie cocoa almond packs, Dannon low fat light and fit greek yogurt (cherry is my fav) for snacks. Meatballs and rotisserie chicken are so good to me. VSG 10/11/17 HW = 360 SW = 292 CW = 226.8 GW = 220 (6'5")

Hi Jeannie.. been a while since my last post.. looks like you're doing great to me.. Ive hit a stall myself.. been stuck on 204 about a week now.. Today, I decided to go back to yogurt, cottage cheese and very soft foods to try to break it... I can't go that long without eating something every couple of hours.. I get this yucky sick feeling if I go too long. But a new faithful commitment to the gym will help I'm sure Sounds like you have a good excuse to have been skipping , I dont. lol Hope you get over the flu quickly.. and continued good luck wishes to you! -
I get my 60 grams of protein, but a huge part of my diet is carbs. Beans, Pumpernickel, Sourdough, lentils, protein pasta (made of lentils and chickpeas), protein wraps, whole wheat English muffins, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, white potatoes...mashed, baked, etc. (when I do mashed, I do half potatoes, half cauliflower, with fat free buttermilk) And fruits are all carbs, and I eat about four servings a day. Tons of veggies, too. I eat very little meat. One protein shake in my coffee over the course of the day=30g protein. One greek yogurt each day=10g protein. The other 20g I get from low glycemic carb protein (a whole wheat English muffin has 6g of protein), tofu, mushrooms, beans, nuts, seeds, etc. And a couple times a week, I eat some meat, too. I get my 60g of protein every day. Sometimes 80g. Losing 1-2 pounds a week pretty steadily. Loving it:) This week was a bonus week...3 pounds:) (last week I was stuck due to my period, so 3 pounds was welcome) I'm eating 6 little meals a day, am never hungry. The idea that this is forever...is ok with me. I like how this fits in my life.

anyone else still really hungry all the time post sleeve surgery? AND does a bypass take away hunger?
orionburn replied to Catherine Keegan's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You can probably pinpoint a few things that are causing hunger triggers. Try and determine is it certain times of the day, after doing certain things, is it simply from boredom? The wanting to eat as soon as I get home is something I'm still dealing with after a year. I have to make myself do something when I get home. Usually that breaks the cycle and then I'm fine until I actually make dinner. If I plop down in front of the TV when I get home then I know I'll end up eating. I've found I'll make excuses as a reason to eat if I know I have extra food with me at work. "Oh, I have a bit of jitters because I drank too much coffee. Better eat something." Granted that means I have an 80 calorie Greek Yogurt or maybe some chicken salad, but point is that I'm finding a reason to eat rather than actually needing to eat. It's tough. It really is. Food shouldn't control our lives. If you honestly feel that it is don't be embarassed to seek out some counseling to sort through it. -
Hi! Congrats on your surgery and your weight loss so far! My date was 2/6 so I’m just a few days ahead of you. I just got to full liquids on Tuesday. So far I’ve been sticking with low-fat tomato soup and cream of chicken soup along with the Oikos triple zero Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, and cream of wheat. For snacks I’ve got jello, pudding, or popsicles (all sugar free). I’m going to steer clear of any “treat” foods (like ice cream” for as long as possible. The post-op liquid diet is boring and repetitive, but it’s for such a short time. And our stomachs need boring right now to heal properly.

Thanks guys! My doctors cleared me to move to pureed/soft foods as tolerated, so it's getting a bit better. Had some white fish last night and some yogurt this morning and all is good in GI land, plus it really does help to have something in my mouth that's not a clear liquid!! Even with the yogurt, I'm not really chewing, but it's still way better than the liquids! I'm running to the store today to pick up the last of the supplements I need, I got most of it pre-op but I forgot the iron/vit C that I needed, go figure I'd forget at least one thing!

First meal three weeks after gastric bypass.
Cowgirl12 replied to BlueGirl1920's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! Hard to believe it’s only been 2 weeks today as I have been back to work a week already. But yesterday I started the puréed stage and was afraid to try anything at work other than yogurt. They said to spit out the chunks of fruit (or I could blended it more but not at work. I have 2T of oatmeal with protein powder and my almond milk (I’m allergic to dairy) so tonight is my big night... puréed chicken with a little broth for moisture.... funny... I’ve been “craving” broccoli lol I did have the boxed organic type during the full liquids... so far I have been doing awesome with things except water and sleep lol but I’m hoping with a little more time that will get better. I love brussel sprouts... I hadn’t thought of those!!! Sounds good!! Love hearing how you are doing. -

I had surgery on the 7th too! Can you have jello or yogurt during the liquid phase. I can’t take aspartame so I was introduced to the True Lime packets. I got unflavored gelatin and made lime jello ( I was able to chew the jello) so that helped my brain! The 3 weeks will fly by we approaching the 1 week mark!

Hi guys, I am 15 days post op from the sleeve and I have some worries and questions. I seem to be able to eat much more than I should, I can eat probably 3/4 cup mushy food. I'm eating pureed soups, mashed potatoes, ricotta bake, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and of course my protein shakes. I have never had dumping issues, even when I have eaten 3/4 cup of pureed soup or a full half cup of mashed potatoes. I am eating an average of 600 calories a day. I have lost 3 lbs since the surgery. I feel like this is really low, my starting weight is really high, 379,and I feel like I should be losing more weight. I fear I'll be the person who doesn't lose any weight after the vsg. I'm terrified. Can anyone give me any advice or calm me down about this?

I find most processed diet/bariatic snacks are not good in taste or quality. Many also inflate their vitamin content and my surgeon staff says a lot of vitamins even in good shakes are not absorbed well. I think most WLS patients have some dietary restrictions or surgeon eating plans, while industry guidelines are still loose. My diet did not include any pasta until year one, and it is recommended that it be whole grain and not be the bulk of meal (still focused on protein + veg/fruit). A lot of fruits were not on my diet plan for first 6 months or year because they were higher in sugar -- but many were. I would be very leery of an early diet plan that allowed or did not discuss how to make a good bariatric plate at each critical stage. Grains entered my diet at I think 8 months mostly, I did and do have oats on my high protein yogurt at an early stage or chia seeds. At over 1 1/2 years out and pass my 1st and 2nd goal weight, I still think about my balanced plate when eating and rarely have rice, pasta or bread. But, I do have them on occasion, when I do I try for whole grain versions, brown rice. Frankly, pasta just cannot be on a success plan when your meal is 4oz!

I kind of hated the first month, but it's only a month. I threw a can of beef vegetable soup in the blender and enjoyed that quite a bit--just happy to have something not sweet. I had about half a container of yogurt every day, too. I can't recall when I started with cottage cheese, but I've had it probably five days out of seven ever since--with some fruit, it's my standard lunch. It won't be long--hang in there!

I eat scrambled egg with tofu, refried beans, Greek yogurt, hummus, and cottage cheese in a cycle of sorts. When I’m really bored I integrate cream of soups from the full liquid stage. Only a few more days for me until I progress to “soft” foods. You can do it!!!

Questions about the liquid diet
Apple203 replied to Cats315's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As Little Green pointed out, all of our plans are a little different. I can have dairy, soy, almond, or rice milk with my protein shakes. I can also have nonfat yogurt, lowfat cottage cheese, up to 1/2 cup fruit, and 1 T peanut butter. But not all at once :-) My target parameters: >250 kcal, 20-30g protein, >8g fat, >6g sugar, >15g carb, and >10g sugar alcohols (tho sugar alcohols are discouraged). So my surgeon is shooting for up to 1,000 kcal per day. -
A question for those that are 6 months out and more.
orionburn replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know these people exist, but for me I can't see having any issues hitting those kind of numbers at 6 months out. My doc wanted us on 3 meals a day and that was it - no snacks. There was no way I could do that. I had to aim for 3-4 meals plus a protein shake to hit my 60g for a day. I probably average 1600 calories a day being a year out. Truth be told I could easily be over 2000 if I wanted to. It's all about what you eat and how often. Yes, my portions have to be smaller, but if I wanted to graze all day long I could and easily rack up the calories. Even with healthy options like cottage cheese or Greek yogurt those are easy to get down. Really it isn't anything you should be overly concerned about IMO.
