May I ask what size you’re down too? You can try looking at places like goodwill. Right now I can get jeans at Walmart for $10 so that helps

Slow Weight Loss
Jaelzion replied to sydneymarie2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience was similar to yours, I only lost 25 pounds in the first two months; however, my loss continued at a steady 10 pounds per month for quite a while after that. I know it seems like it takes forever, but at 10 pounds/month, it wasn't long before it started adding up. I was even more impatient because I had a cousin who had the bypass a few days apart from me and when I compared our progress it seemed like I was losing SO. MUCH. SLOWER. But comparing with other people doesn't work well because a lot of things go into the rate of weight loss, such as your activity level, your dieting history, your natural metabolism rate, how much you have to lose, etc. Are you sticking closely to the eating plan your bariatric team gave you? Drinking enough fluids? Getting your protein in? Eating more real food than processed stuff? Do you feel the restriction from your surgery and are you stopping when it kicks in (or just before)? Are you logging what you are eating? That really helped me, especially early on. One thing my surgeon warned me about was including too many excess carbs in my diet, especially refined carbs. So you might want to make sure you're not overdoing it there. If so, you are doing all the right things. You've lost 28 pounds in two months, so you're averaging 14 pounds per month. That's actually good and will quickly add up to a big weight loss. If you keep losing at that rate, you would be 84 pounds lighter in 6 months! Just keep going, you'll get there... -
My son is 10. I told him and explained to him why and what was going to happen. He wasn't impressed!! His response was "As long as I don't have to look at your incisions!"

Hello, (Im new) I have Aetna, I started my journey to surgery in Dec.2019. However denied my gastric sleeve surgery even though my BMI is 51 and Im pre diabetic and asthmatic. They also denied my first appeal. Getting ready to request the peer-to-peer meeting with my surgeon and and Aetna. Any thoughts, ideas, comments are appreciated as im really feeling hopeless now.

I had my ESG in mid August and proceeded thru all the diet phases with no problems. I now can eat "anything" altho I am only supposed to eat 3 oz per meal - 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. At first I was fine with the small amounts, but as I healed I felt hungrier and started moving my meal sizes up. I am not gorging by any means but I typically eat 4-6 oz per meal. Usually 900-1100 calories per day. This lets me have a few oz of veg along with my few oz of protein. My question is really about feeling hungry. I was told the ESG would greatly reduce hunger and cravings, unfortunately I am not feeling that. I wasn't hungry the first month or so, but its been a problem since. Did you feel free of hunger for some period of time, if so how long?

I started the process in November '19 and completed my requirements at the end of August. I had 6-months of documented appointments with my PCP as well as 3 with Nutritionist, 2 with YMCA exercise program and 3 with Psych. Unfortunately, our insurance switched on 9-1 (after I had completed all appointments) and there was a couple of weeks delay until they turned it in for approval. Once I received approval, the Surgeon's office called to schedule the pre-surgery appointment. That was held last Thursday. Friday they called with my date. Looonnngg process but my date is Nov. 4th!

Welcome to the forums. I can relate to having a baby. Well, no, not really, since I'm a guy and it's different for guys than gals. I can explain it if you like, I have a presentation with charts and graphs. Really, it's quite educational and entertaining. This actually reminds me when I had my tummy tuck when they removed 10 pounds of flesh. My parents gave me celebratory balloons that were attached to my wheel chair on the way out: "It's a boy!" I got some interesting looks that day. See, I come by my warped sense of humor honestly. Really, it's quite interesting. I have a presentation with charts and graphs. Back to topic. I'm not a fan of extreme diets like the pouch reset. Personally, I had my surgery so I would never have to diet again. 'Diets' are not sustainable. 'Diets' end. Folks think that just because they reached goal that they can return to eating 'normally.' You know, the normal that got us where we were pre-op. I advocate just returning to your post-op plan. You know, the plan that worked for you. The plan that was supposed to be for the rest of our lives. Yeah, that plan. When you had your WLS you committed to a life-long change. So, get back to that commitment. It will take time as all healthy plans do. Do it consistently. When you return to your desired weight (aka 'goal') just adjust your plan to maintain, then do it consistently. You've done it before, you can do it again, but this time just keep doing it. Good luck, Tek

Hey everyone...I had my sleeve back in October 2016. My starting weight was 278 and within 2 years I went down to 152lbs. I was sooo proud of myself, worked out everyday, ate great, etc. Since then I had a baby in October 2019 and I know I've gained weight to where I'm at least 200lbs. I'm so nervous to get on the scale because I don't want to see that number...can anyone relate?? Today (10/26) I started the pouch reset. Has anyone done this before? Has it worked for you? It's already so hard for me. I've only had a protein shake and I have my 64oz bottle of water and I brought a couple popsicles (sugar free) for my lunch today. I'm already "dying" haha. Thanks for any insight or experiences you can tell me about! I'm hoping to get back to 160lbs again. I'll be 40 in November so I know I'll have to work my butt off!!

Sugar free pudding, Light and fit yogurt, a protein bar (these work for some people but they slow my weight loss for some reason). Say Cheese diet cheesecake is really good. It has 95 calories, 6 grams of carbs and 8 grams of protein. What's the catch? It's crazy expensive: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BFWP912/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 One of my favorite treats is Kitu Super Coffee: https://shop.drinksupercoffee.com/products/maple-pumpkin-super-coffee I heat it up. add a dash of sugar-free flavoring and a couple of Splendas. It has 70 calories, 3 grams of carbs and 10 grams of protein. it tastes like a latte and is very satisfying. Be careful though, it's real coffee with caffeine so treat it like you would any other coffee product. Personally I don't do well with sugar-free candy, like Atkins peanut butter cups and similar products. My weight loss slows considerably if I eat them regularly. Hope that helps!

Anyone for October 2020?
SabanFan replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s been one week and I think all is progressing well. Here is my routine at this point: Premier protein shake, 4oz 3xday; 32oz water, 20oz homemade chicken stock 1oz liquid Tylenol (2-3x day)- as much for the superficial thrombosis left over from the IV with a painful knot in the vein Down from where it was. Incision site pain is negligible. B12 sublingual, Gas-x 3xday, prescribed heart burn med, blood pressure pill (hope to get rid of this one soon), two children chewable multivitamins. I’m down 23lbs from pre-op diet weight (300) and 10 from Pre-surgery. Low day was Friday we’re I was not a happy camper, but seeing the weight loss is a motivator. I’m heading back to work tomorrow to help establish that routine, but it shouldn’t be too bad since I telework. Just gotta remember to drink. Not sure if it is allowed, but I added a little curry powder to me chicken stock last night and it helped change the flavor profile for the positive. As we know, the good stuff is always bad for us right we’ll, it was yummy and no side effects today so I might try to add some Asian flavors today. Not to worry, still sticking to liquids just jazzing them up a little. If anyone has heard this is a no-no, shout out and let me know. Curry was a no-no pre-op due to the turmeric (natural blood thinner) but no warnings post op. -

Support is the best thing you can do. Take things slow. I had mine on 10/19 and am a week end. It will take a little while for the good habits to take root. Do what you can to support them whether eating healthy with her, cooking recommended food, removing the bad stuff from the panty (if it didn’t happen pre-op) and just being there. This is a positive step to a healthy and life sustaining path so reinforce that you appreciate her sacrifice. I would encourage empathy but not sympathy. Empathy is understanding she is in pain while sympathy is doing stuff for her because of the pain. Movement helps so make sure she is up and moving And doing things for herself. In a couple weeks, consider joining her on walks. Please reach out if you have any specific questions and she is lucky to have you. -
Yeah, mine is 10 days and has food. Lower carb, low fat, low calorie. I am feeling very low. LOL... Now that I am on day 4, I am not QUITE as hungry, and I am losing weight like nuts. I am guessing it is because my calorie range for the last 3 days has been between 400-700 😳 As for the liquids, really try to get them in... because I think it will be harder after surgery, and I'd think it would be better to start out hydrated. I am rootin' for you! Congrats on the 50 lbs down!! What Rx did you need to get? I haven't been told of any, but I do go in for my pre-op labs Wednesday. Maybe I will find out then.,, I am one of the others on the 2nd as well... though with you being in Norway (where in Norway, BTW? My husband's father's line is originally from there) you will go first. Looking forward to seeing how you do. I had sooo much before I started this pre-op diet. Scallops, shrimp, steak, pizza... I bid them all goodbye for a while.

once you are approved you are good. I was a 44bmi with no co's..... my doc said to not lose a pound till i did. Then after i was approved i could lose if i wanted to. On the 2 week liq diet i lost more than 10lbs. When i got then sleeve my bmi was 31(8/28/19) with no co's, but even though it was done 2.5 years after band removal it still was considered a revision. He noted my chart with my first bmi of 44 (2009), what i had gotten too 26 (2017) with the band. Of course, my insurance didn't cover the removal or the sleeve.... 14k out of pocket for the sleeve. I am so grateful...... my bmi is now a 21. 5'2" 120lbs

Hi everyone, my mother had her gastric sleeve surgery on 10/20, I have been helping her through this journey. She doesn’t know much English so I have been the one to communicate and translate with Dr/Nurses.. pretty much everyone for her. Also have been fixing her meals and crushing her meds. Any tips anyone can share would be helpful. I am now getting some pushback from her not wanting to eat certain things or do certain things. Any help would be appreciated 😍

Hi everyone, I am here to get more tips to support my mother through this weight loss journey. She got the Gastric sleeve surgery on 10/20 -
I was going to say the same thing. I intentionally went about 10 pounds below my goal so that I would be at my goal weight when I gained it back--and I did. With very little trouble, I might add.

What was/is your greatest fear?
Dearvaleriexo replied to Smitty74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My major fears: 1. My surgery being canceled or rescheduled. My surgery was supposed to be in May, but this pandemic forced my doctor to reschedule three times before finally having the surgery this past Friday (10/23). 2. That my doctor would do the wrong surgery on me. I wanted the gastric sleeve, but I was paranoid that due to some miscommunication, my doctor would perform a gastric bypass on me. Walking into the OR, my mind was raging with the thought of having the wrong surgery, even though all the papers I signed said gastric sleeve. As I fell asleep with the anesthesia, my last words were “gastric sleeve” 😂 3. Giving up the food I love. I’m Dominican - I was raised eating heavily seasoned ethnic foods. The food of my culture is soooo good, but so unhealthy at the same time. 4. How I’ll look once I lose all the weight. I’m concerned that if I lose too much weight, I’ll look sick. Or that my body will look weird and have saggy skin 😓 I’m only 22, so I’m praying my skin will bounce back, but you never know. My mom had her gastric sleeve at 45 years old (4.5 years ago), and she only had saggy skin (barely) in one area. Hopefully I’ll be as lucky as her. 5. Concerns that I’ll gain the weight back as years pass. Over the last few years, it’s become apparent to me that I’m a stress eater. I’d eat if I was sad, upset, had a rough day, was bored - whatever reason you can find, I chose to eat because of it. My relationship with food was definitely unhealthy. I’m three days post-op: even though my cravings have pretty much vanished, it’s difficult to see my family eat all this good food. I’ve been dying to have a piece of chicken or a sandwich. (Bread and fried chicken were my biggest problems). Even soda, for example. I used to drink so much soda, and now I’ll never be able to drink it. It’s scary to think about. 6. Now that the surgery is done, I’m scared that any weird movement I make, will open up one of my incision sights. I have six total, but only one has stitches. It’s difficult to stand up or even sit up without help. That kind of movement makes me feel the stitches in my very soul - it’s a terrible feeling. Coughing, sneezing, burping: all make me feel the incisions. I lightly press a small pillow on my stomach if I feel like I’m going to cough or anything of the sort; it does help with the pain. 7. This is such a life altering surgery. I wonder sometimes if I was actually ready for it. -

I was supposed to have my gastric sleeve in May, but this pandemic forced me to wait longer. I had my surgery this past Friday (10/23), and so far, it hasn’t been a walk in the park. I have my good moments, but there’s times when I have really bad internal pain due to gas movement, as well as pain in one of my incision sights. I wish I could zoom through this moment so that I could feel better 😭
